Indonesian spell checking in Leopard?

I love the "multilingual" option in the system spell checker. It's great that those of us that mangle more than one language can get our spelling checked. However, I am missing support for Bahasa Indonesia. Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks, but I was looking for a system solution. My experience with CocoAspell is that you have to close the app and reopen every time you change language. That is why I like the "multilingual" capabilities now in the system (and with support for Danish no less).

  • Spell check in Mail Leopard

I accidently got some miss spelled words learned into Spell check in Mail app. On Leopard.
What can I do to correct this problem. Is there away to reset the spell checker so that miss spelled words I learned into spell checker can be eliminated?

See this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1650.html which among other things says "If you accidentally add a misspelled word to the dictionary, type the misspelling in the Spelling dialog, then click Forget."
What I found is if you highlighted the misspelled word control/right click on it and choose "Unlearn Spelling" from the menu.
You prompted me to look for a user dictionary that I can edit. I Have not yet found it.

Leopard- In Mail, I'm getting a window telling me the spell checker can't be found, and stopping me from answering emails or typing anything. The spell checker seeems to work in Notebook.
    Any suggestions??
Looking forward to your bailing me out.

Yes, if you know where it is now. Aperture cannot help you find them, only where it last saw them, but if you tell it where they are, it can reconnect them.

  • Mail's spell-checking set automatically to British English in Snow Leopard

Upon upgrading to Snow Leopard, the system wide spell checker is set to British English. Any ideas how to change it to American English?

Try going to the "language & text" preferences, select the "text" tab and look for U.S. English.
I always thought "U.S. English" was an oxymoron.

  • Set spell check language to British once and for all...

I know this question has been asked a few times before but I just cannot fix it on my iMac or MBP. I am running Snow Leopard (still too scared to upgrade to Lion) and want to globally change my spell-check to British.
I have tried everything. Every option in the System Preferences where I can change the language to British I have done and also changed the preferences in each application by right-clicking the underlined text, selecting 'spelling and gramma' and setting the dropdown to British English. All to no avail. As soon as I go back to TextEdit or something and type 'colour' it's telling me to change it to 'color'. Infuriating!
Does anyone have any clue? The irony is that I managed to make it work as I wanted (no American spellings) on my old MacBook running Snow Leopard but just can't on my newer computers.
    Many thanks

  • No Spell Checker in Pages 3.0.2

I am running Pages 3.0.2 in Leopard 10.5.2 on a Dual 1.8 Ghz PowerMac with 1.5 Gig of RAM.
I do not have any external Spell Checkers installed.
I have been completely unable to run any Spelling Checks.
I always get "Cannot Contact Spell Checker"
If I have Check Spelling as you Type selected, I get that message about every 10 seconds.
    What is UPPPP????
    Any Solutions or Work Arounds??
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Ted

    Theodore,
You may not have any external spell checkers installed now, but I wouldn't be surprised if you once did. And when you disabled and trashed it, it left behind some remnants. I'll bet that's what Pages is finding.

  • System-wide Spell Checker Error

I newly installed Leopard on a MacBook Pro, and now in Mail, Safari and iTunes, I get a "Couldn't contact Spell Checker" error message when I try to type in these programs. The problem disappears in Mail if I set Spell Check to never in the preferences. Safari & iTunes don't have that option, that I could see.
But that's besides the point. Spell check should be seamless and automatic. The error doesn't just occur once. It basically hangs the program because the error cycles continuously and I have to force-quit to get out of the application.
So now I am using Firefox to type this because Safari wouldn't let me type without letting me know it can't contact spell checker.
To remedy the situation, I've verified and repaired permissions, although I did not see any permissions that related to this issue. I downloaded and re-installed the 10.5.1 update. No effect. I've spotlighted 'spell checker' and only gotten the .dll file from Windows as a return.
    Guesses, anyone?

etresoft, thanks for the hint. I looked and found tons of stuff, but not a thing to do with the spell checker error. I did log into another profile on the affected machine and had no trouble whatsoever. Does that mean the problem is in my home/library? I think, hopefully logically, that there's another program causing this issue. What would be the logical way to approach this?

  • What's the Magic of Spell Check?

    Hello Everyone!
I hope I'm on the right forum this time.
I'm a physician. I bought Stedmans Legal/Pharacuetical/Medical Spell Checker in 2004/05. I loved it. When I upgraded to Leopard, something happened. It was gone. It wasn't in any of my backups. It seemed as though all of my applications were looking for it--incuding iTunes. iTunes insists on having it or it won't function and will crash.
I called Stedmans, and they said that it was an open application, or an open helping feature, even though it was buried deeply in the Microsoft Office 2004 app. folder. It was universal, and many applications could use it, so it didn't surprise him that a lot of apps were looking for it if they couldn't find it.
So, I plunked down another $200 for the newest edition of Stedmans, and guess what? The machine is still looking for Spell Check. When it looks for it and can't find it, the Finder comes to a crawl. The application, such as Mail 3.1, comes to a dead stop. Okay, the new Spell Check is in the MS folder where it ought to be, but the Mac Book Pro 17" dual processor isn't happy. I can't seem to make it happy and show it where Spell Check is.
I used to have an awful application called Spell Catcher from RainMaker that didn't do squat for medical terms. It went bye-bye a long time ago. The Mac is very particular about wanting Spell Check, and that's the exact name of the Stedmans app. The last time I spoke to Stemans on the phone, they said that they are aware of some sort of issue, and they're looking into it.
That, of course, was three weeks ago, and when I call now, nobody knows what I'm talking about.
Thanks for reading. Thanks even more for taking the time to respond.
    -John

It was looking for "Spell Check" and the applications were crashing because they couldn't find it before I installed the newest edition.
Nevertheless, it is time to go back to Stedmans and see if they've come up with anything.
    Thanks for the comeback.

  • Spell Checking not automatic when typing!

Running my new IMAC - Snow Leopard ---using Pages 9 to create a new document--*spell checking while typing* in English does not work at all (i.e. does not catch obvious errors). Inspector more option set to English for the document. So what gives?
    Help would be appreciated.

To follow up what Yvan said I have sometimes, when adding copied text from other source in another language, had problems changes language in the Inspector.
The scenario is this. I have pasted english text into my swedish document. Change all text to english. I add more pasted text and now it can be difficult to get that part being changed to english in the Inspector, if I had all text selected in the document. What I do is I first change it to another language and then again to english. Now it works.
Right I could have just chosen to change the second pasted text but find it easier to select all text instead of the pasted text.

  • Spell Check is Broken - Right Clicking on Misspelled Word Does Nothing

MIsspelled words are marked as incorrect in Safari, but when I right-click or control-click I never get a dialog to correct the misspelling. Spell-check works fine in all other apps, such as Mail. Any ideas? I have the problem on two machines. All have had upgrade installs from Tiger to Leopard.

    Hi
When I right-click on a misspelled word (in this case "now") in a text box, this is what my contextual menu looks like.
    Do you see these choices?

  • Error: Could not contact spell checker

Whenever I open Keynote or any iWork application, or even text edit for that matter, I get the following error: "Could not contact spell checker."
I have looked around on other forums and I'm not the only one to have had this problem, but no working solution has been provided, as far as I can tell.
I have not installed any third-party spellcheck software such as Spell Catcher or CocoSpell. I checked my international settings anyways, and there is no evidence that such programs exist on this computer. Nor do they show up in spotlight. There is no "services" directory in my library.
I tried replacing the "en" file under the "spelling" directory with one from a leopard machine, but no use. (So I put the old one back.)
I can't seem to figure this out. It is a system-wide error that happens with every application that uses spell checker.
Any advice would be really appreciated!

Try making a new user account and see if you are still having problems with spell checker with that user account. You may also want to try posting in the [MacOS 10.4|http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=177] area as it sounds to me like it is more of a system problem then Keynote specific.

  • Change Spell Check language according to keyboard selected

    Hi,
Is there a way to have spell check automatically change its language according to which keyboard is selected from the international menulet? This would seem to be logical...

I've been thinking about the same thing. How hard would it be to enable that?
Just recently I finally figured out how to install and use dictionaries with cocoAspell, the ones not available under Leopard. That was a huge step forward, but now that I can, I don't want to have to keep changing between languages. I'd love the spell checker setting to have an option to follow the keyboard layout, or be able to set shortcuts for languages. Or something.

  • Adding scientific terms to spell check

Hi. In terms of Maverick's Spell Check, is there a way to import a medical dictionary?
    Thanks

OK. Let's take it very methodically.
    I'm using OS X 10.7.3
You're posting in the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard forum. (Mac OS X 10.7 Lion has its own separate forum.) Your original post indicates you are using "Mac OS X (10.6.4)".
couldn't find any folders or anything in the Spelling folder
First, you have three Spelling folders. I know Lion hides some stuff, so, because I'm not using Lion, I don't know if you see them all. They are
    </System/Library/Spelling>
only stuff installed by Apple should go in here
    </Library/Spelling>
here go spelling dics for all user accounts
    <~/Library/Spelling>
here go your own spelling dics
LocalDictionary is a file in the latter folder. It may not have been created on your account. To create it, turn spell checking on, type in TextEdit a word the spell checker will flag as wrong, select it, and control-click (or right-click) on it. Choose "Learn Spelling" from the contextual menu. LocalDictionary will be created and the word entered in it. At least, that's what happens on Snow Leopard. I understand it's the same in Lion; maybe you should ask it in the Lion forum, to be quite sure.
TextEdit worked just fine until I tried to do this fix
I'm confused. What action did you actually take? You said you couldn't find the file -- so how did you try "to do this fix"?
now my TextEdit app is LOCKED...
What does that mean? TextEdit no longer responds to commands? If yes, have you tried force-quitting and restarting it?
