INeed to load the excel directly

Is it always mandatory to convert the Excel sheet to comma separated or tab seperated csv file before loading the data by SQL loader. Can't we directly load the Excel data without doing any conversion to csv file. if yes please let me know the field terminator for excel file to be used in the control file.

Hello Amit Juneja.
SQL*Loader expects the data it reads to be text. If the file includes additional information, you need to instruct SQL*Loader what to do with it (not always possible). Take a look at one of your Excel files using a text viewer, and then you'll get an idea of what the text data actually looks like.
If you are receiving Excel files as input, you may find that you have to spend a tremendous amount of time fixing the data, due to users entering data and occasionally formatting the data, sometimes inconsistently. Unless you are the business user, it isn't advisable to be changing the data as any errors you might make are then your responsibility. I'm not sure if you heard about the Wisconsin Supreme Court issues recently where an Excel worksheet was provided by one of the counties and since columns were moved/hidden, a whole county's votes weren't tallied initially.
You can use utilities like Oracle SQL Developer's Import Data... wizard to upload from Excel, however even then you may have to fix the data in Excel for it to come across properly.

The SSIS stock adapters don't supporting dynamic column mapping, to achieve your goal, you need to use Script Task/Component to read the Excel sheet name and the columns in the worksheet, and then map to the output columns of the script component. You can

Possible to load from mp3cd DIRECT to ipod, w/out importing

I have a few backup DVD's i made of my music, and i want to load some music onto an iPod I'm borrowing for the weekend. can I load the songs direct from the DVD's without importing them first? my biggest concern is that my library is on an external firewire only drive, and my ibook has only one firewire port (necessary for connecting the ipod...).
also, is there anything I need to do to make sure I don't automatically erase or import music that's already on the ipod? i don't have it yet, and when i go to the prefs panel for ipod, it says "no ipod connected" and I really don't want to erase the owners music.

As far as I know, all songs have to be imported to iTunes before they can be updated on an iPod. iPod's work directly with iTunes and with nothing else (as far as I'm aware) I don't think there is a way to just update songs on an iPod without the songs being in iTunes first.

download one key figure data from planning book ( interactive damand plan) and made some changes and need to upload the data back to same planning book
But, may I know why you are thinking of downloading, changing and uploading for just changing the figures for a particular key figure. You can do it in the planning book itself.
However, not all the key-figures can be changed. But, what type of key-figure you are speaking here? Is it like 'Forecast' for which the value is based on other key-figures, or is like a key-figure where some manual adjustments are to be done--so that it can be manually edited? However, in both the cases, the data can be changed in the planning book only. In first case, you can change the values of dependant key-figures and in the second case, you can change the key-figures directly.
And please note that you can change the values of the key-figures only at the detailed level. So, after loading the data in the book, use drill-down option, maintain the data at the detailed level, change the figures, and automatically, this gets reflected at the higher level.
In case you are unable to change the values, go to the 'Design' mode of the book, right-click your key-figure, under "Selected Rows", uncheck "Output Only" option. In case you are unable to see that option, then you are not authorised to change that. See if you can change the authorisations by going to the "Data View" tab in planning book configuration (/n/sapapo/sdp8b), and change the value of Status to 3.

Excel 2013 PowerPivot Error - "PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model"

I'm attempting to use the PowerPivot add-on in Excel. When clicking 'Manage Data Model' or attempting to 'Load to data model,' I receive the error 'We couldn't load the Data Model. This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.',
followed by 'PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model.' This happens irrespective of data source type. I have Excel 2013 32-bit, PowerPivot 32-bit, running on Windows 7 OS 64-bit. I am not running an SSAS instance on my machine.
Any suggestions?

This issue seems to be caused by the October 2013 update (KB 2825655) for Excel 2013. Try to remove it or restore the system to an earlier point and check the result.

Excel, PowerView error in SharePoint 2013: "An error occurred while loading the model for the item or data source 'EntityDataSource'. Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permissions to access the data source."

I've installed SQL Server 2012 SP1 + SP server 2012 + SSRS and PowerPivot add-in.
I also configured excel services correctly. Everything works fine but the powerview doesn't work!

Based on the current error message, the error can be related to the
Claims to Windows Token Service (C2WTS) and is an expected error under certain conditions. To verify the issue, please check the aspects below:
     1. The C2WTS Windows service and C2WTS SharePoint service are both running.
     2. Check the SQL Server Browser service is running on the machine that has the PowerPivot instance of SSAS.
     3. Check the domain. You're signing into SharePoint with a user account in some domain (call it Domain A). When Domain A is equal to Domain B which SharePoint server itself is located (they're the same domain), or Domain
A trusts Domain B.
In addition, the error may be caused by Kerberos authentication issue due to missing SPN. In order to make the Kerberos authentication work, you need to configure the Analysis Services to run under a domain account, and register the SPNs for the Analysis
Services server.
To create the SPN for the Analysis Services server that is running under a domain account, run the following commands at a command prompt:
• Setspn.exe -S MSOLAPSvc.3/Fully_Qualified_domainName OLAP_Service_Startup_Account
Note: Fully_Qualified_domainName is a placeholder for the FQDN.
• Setspn.exe -S MSOLAPSvc.3/serverHostName OLAP_Service_Startup_Account

Error while loading the data from excel to database.

Hi,
I am using PL/SQL developer to load the data from excel to database. I will set the data source in the control panel and will proceed through ODBC importer in pl/sql developer to import the data.
What exactly the error is when i click the filename to view the result preview it shows an error as:
The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data.

Hello;
That error message comes from Microsoft, so something in you Excel sheet is the cause.
Its a pain but I would check properties of each column in case Excel decided to add something, a comma for example.
Do you have a column over 255 characters? Look there first. If any length is greater than 255 it will crash and burn.
Or convert it to a CSV and create an external table.

How to automate the loading of excel file

As we know we can load excel file through ODI but their is some manual work we have to do each time and it will only support in Windows platform
How we can load excel file through ODI in Unix system and it should be automate so in one directory i got this file it should able to load the data automatically no manual intervention required.

On windows jdbc-odbc bridge is used to read from excel file. Since such odbc setup is available only on windows hence the restriction. If there is any type 4 jdbc driver available for excel that it would works on unix too.

EMF images embedded in Excel 2010 documents don't display when the same document is loaded into Excel 2013

I have a fairly large spreadsheet which creates layout floorplan maps based on a table of 3,000+ room locations and various cross-referenced attribute lookup tables which add flags & colour coding to the individual rooms. The maps also
include a few graphic elements beyond simple cells and borders, such as EMF images to indicate stairways, etc.
The sheet works perfectly on my Win7 desktop in Excel 2010:
However when loaded into Excel 2013 on my Win7 laptop, all of the images show as a red cross with the wording "This image cannot currently be displayed", thus:
Any ideas, as this looks like a bug in Excel 2013? Thanks.

What happens if you reimport the images from original source?
Try Running Excel Program firstly, and then open this file within Excel (File->Open).Also if you have Excel 2010 installed , try to open the file using Excel 2010, copy an paste the content to a blank Excel file.
You can also try to check the option 'Disable hardware graphics acceleration'. File->Options->Advanced ...

Does SSIS guarantee that it loads the data into SQL Server in the same order as it is in Excel

Hi,
We are trying to load several Excel files into SQL Server SSIS and we need to save the data in the database in the same order as it is in Excel..
My question is, Does SSIS guarantee that it loads the data into SQL Server in the same order as it is in Excel. If so, we will add a sequence to ensure we have the order.
Please advise.

If it is one file then we can add an index column, but we have to load hundreds of files.
How adding an index/key column to the table works unless SSIS picks and loads the data in the table in the same order as it is in Excel?
Just to explain my question better,
If excel has three rows {a,b},{c,d},{e,f}, does SSIS ensure it loads the data in the same order in a table.
