INeed Your help! iTunes will not launch. I reinstalled. Created a new user account. And followed all of the other...
It seems that none of the techniques described in the Apple iTunes troubleshooting tutorial have worked. I have spent hours on this.
I think that when I downloaded DVD converter and burner program that some preference got tweaked.
or
When I ran a 'duplicate cleaner' program that a vital program was erased by accident.
In any case, I am a long time iTunes user and Microsoft Media Player will never be an adequate replacement.
What can I try now?
Please help!

Itunes will not open, it just brings up a user account window which if ok alters shortcuts?
I have followed instructions found elsewhere to do the following:
•“C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe” -remove (Note: delete the quotes displayed here and type again using keyboard)
•Navigate to the following folder in Windows Explorer: C:\Program Files\Bonjour
•Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
•Restart your computer
•Delete the the Program Files\Bonjour folder
All successful, now there is nothing that has anything to do with iTunes , Quictime, Apple Software Update, Bonjuor,...etc on my machine, now what do I install so I can get iTunes to work on Win 7 x 64 bit edition... ?
Thanks,
Rick

please help i need to fix my itunes it will not launch on my computer . no error message appears it simply will not run. the icon on desktop has changed to a white folder and it still appears in programmes in start menu but will not open. it appears in task manager but disappears when the programme will not open
You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open? -
Safari and Chrome will not display some pages right for new user account
Not sure this is a Safari issue actually. Behavior is also in Chrome, but not Firefox. If I need to post elsewhere please advise.
24"imac running 10.5.8. 2gb ram, software update run,
Setup a new user account. Machine will have 2 users.
When I login as the new user, in both Safari and Chrome, some pages - google, ebay, amazon, cnn, yahoo, do not display correctly. Mainly empty space, a few graphics all wrong. They do display correctly in Firefox.
I assumed it was the user. So I added a 3rd user. Same behavior. Tried giving the new user admin rights. Same problem.
For the admin account, everything's fine on those pages, both in Safari and Chrome.
It feels like the new user is not getting access to something it needs, but it also feels like more than a font problem. Thanks for any suggestions. DanThanks for your thoughts. Here's what I've learned. The browsers display correctly for the new user after SafeBoot. I removed all startup items, to no avail. Removed all fonts from the new user account, nothing. Removed all fonts from the admin user's library, nothing. Then I removed all fonts from the HD library, and that fixed it for the new user. Now I just have to figure out which one it was.
So in summary, a bad font in the HD library was affecting Safari and Chrome (but not Firefox) in new user accounts, but not in the admin user's account. Nice. D -
I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work. It was working. I've tried every solution I could find on other boards.
Solved. Seems to have been an external HDD that has failed. I had some files on it that Itunes was pointed to. Didn't notice the drive had failed. Itunes seems to be working now with the drive off.

SW upgrade wiped out my iTunes library and also now iTunes will not launch
I just completed the recommended Sw upgrade for iTunes and now iTunes will not launch and my iTunes library is TOTALLY EMPTY.
Clearly, I am NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. I have lost a substantial investment of $$ and time in losing my iTunes library - so Apple should be paying me for my loss.
I need help, can you, will you help me? I want my iTunes library back and I'd like to reinstall the previous version of iTunes, because it worked fine.
Barbara Bowen
Apple, 1983-1993You don't say which versions so we don't know to which version you wish to revert. Reverting won't get back your library anyway, if it is truly gone.
Have you checked if your library is truly gone? Have you looked in the iTunes folder and the media folder inside of it? The library has two main components, all the media files for the individual tracks and the iTunes Library.itl file which give them the structure you see in iTunes. Sometimes iTunes just loses track of the library file which can be re-linked, and what's really important anyway are the media files.
If the library is truly gone you can restore it from the backups you make of your computer. Backups are a responsibility of any computer owner ever since computers were invented. If you don't have backups then it may be possible to redownload items purchased from the iTunes Store.
I know I have glossed over some of this but it's not worth going into details on how to do all the different things until we know precisely what it is that needs doing. -
I installed updates, Force Quit itunes and now iTunes will not launch
I installed updates on my Mac. In order to complete the process, a window telling me to Force Quit itunes came up. I did so and now iTunes will not launch??
Help!
Cathy 214Try deleting all your music by going into settings>general>usage>music. Then re-download them from iTunes by going in to iTunes on your iPhone>more>purchased>music.

Itunes will not launch on Windows Vista no error code
Itunes will not launch on my computer. I have windows vista. I have uninstalled and downloaded itunes repeatedly. I have also tried all of the troubleshooting tips available on the apple support site. But none of them worked. Quicktimes works fine. It is just itunes. I even opened up task manager to check the processes and itunes appears for about a second in the processes tab then just disappears. I have no idea what to do i have an iphone 3gs and havent updated it for a few months now and cannot sync my iphone without itunes. I Have kaspersky internet protection but i doubt thats the problem because itunes was working fine until i updated it.PLEASE HELPPPPPP!
Presumably the configuration fails to complete, so every time you start iTunes it has another go.
As iTunes works normally when you plug in your iPod, you should be able to work round this by creating a new iTunes short cut.
Go to Program Files\iTunes and right click on iTunes.exe. Select: Send to>>Desktop(create shortcut). If you are lucky you will be able to open iTunes using this short cut.
However this work around does not fix the underlying problem that WIndows fails to complete configuring iTunes. -

Itunes will not launch, it shows message of "itunes library .itl" can not be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. I tried opene it in save mode but I had the same problem.
If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...
•Apple - Support - iTunes - install & update:

Good luck & happy computing!
ps: i see you resolved this issue. it's magic! -
ITunes will not Launch 10.6 Snow Leopard
I just upgraded to 10.6 last night and now my iTunes will not launch. I removed all my extra plugins and am trying to start fresh. Here's the error message that pops up in the Console:
8/29/09 10:26:15 AM [0x0-0xbddbdd].com.apple.iTunes[9902] [Deprecated] CocoaJava: com.apple.cocoa.foundation.NSRuntime
8/29/09 10:26:15 AM [0x0-0xbddbdd].com.apple.iTunes[9902] -[NSJavaVirtualMachine initWithClassPath:] FATAL: cannot initialize ObjCJava. Exit
8/29/09 10:26:15 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[237] ([0x0-0xbddbdd].com.apple.iTunes[9902]) Exited with exit code: 255
Any ideas?OK, this solution worked for me:
Quit all programs, force-quit iTunes if it is locked up.
Disconnect any iPhone or iPods
Go to: Macintosh HD/users/"your user name"/library/preferences, and drag to trash the preference panels: with itunes in the name: including>com.apple.iTunes.plist, com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
Download iTunes 8.2.1 from theApple website,
Run the iTunes 8.2.1 installer
It will have you set up iTunes as if for the first time.
Launch iTunes after it is set up, it will take a bit as it creates new prefence files.
Quit iTunes>restart the mac>Launch iTunes and after it loads plug in your iPod or iPhone. -

As a side note, because you seem much more knowledgeable than I, is there some way to clone your settings and then reinstall them after wiping and reinstalling the OS?
you could use e.g. _*Carbon Copy Cloner*_ to clone your current system to an external HD, then use +setup assistant+ (which launches when you start up the freshly installed OS for the 1st time) to migrate user account and network settings from the clone.
that should not bring over any corrupted file (hopefully).
you can use the instructions in [this|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Setup.html] user tip. i would recommend not to migrate applications and +other files and folders+ but re-install 3rd party software manually (one by one) and do the same for all other data.
here's a helpful thread: _*where important data is stored*_ (one correction to this link: iCal data is stored in ~/library/calendars).
as for your iTunes library, with the clone connected, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the clone to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the new install.

Itunes will not launch after latest update 2/2014
Just installed latest update for iTunes on 2/21/2014 on my MBP running snow leopard and after restarting MBP iTunes will not launch.
Thank you
MacBook Pro
Late 2008 unibody running Snow Leopard 10.6.8Yes, first, I would run Disc Utility; Verify Disc, Verify Disc Permissions, & Repair Disc Permissions.
Then I would go here > http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ for the .dmg file download.
Then I would reinstall iTunes. So, unless you do not have enough free space on your hard drive, that should work.
Otherwise, it may be time for some spring cleaning...

ITunes will not launch on Win 7 32-bit
It was working fine a week and a half ago when I used it last, but now iTunes will not launch. It just shows up in the task manager Processes tab and nothing in the Applications tab. I have followed the instructions provided here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717
and still nothing. I have also done a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and Quicktime. I am pretty much at the end of my rope and I am hoping someone has a suggestion that works. We could try renaming the APSDaemon.exe file.
In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
On a 32-bit version of Windows 7, open the "Program Files" folder.
On a 64-bit version of Windows 7, open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Open the "Common Files" folder.
Open the "Apple" folder.
Open the "Apple Application Support" folder.
Rename the APSDaemon.exe file APSDaemonDISABLED (or something like that).
Does that stop the iTunes issue?
