Inertial scrolling stopped working

Recently my Magic Mouse stopped inertia scrolling. I don't think it was tied to any update, but I may be wrong -- I don't pay much attention to software updates.
I've tried everything: resetting SMC, changing the inertia setting in Universal Access back and forth, rebooting, repairing permissions, moving away the mouse preferences, re-pairing mouse; nothing helps. Inertia scrolling just doesn't work and it drives me insane because I'm very used to it, and the normal scrolling feels horrible by comparison.
My system: MacBook Pro 13" with 10.7.4 on board.

Two-Finger Scrolling Stopped Working

After updating to 10.5.6, my two-finger scrolling stopped working; everything else seems to be fine. What can I do to get it working again?

Same thing happened to me today. I've had the 10.5.6 update installed for a week and have restarted my system several times since then, and experienced no problems until now. Today was the first day I powered my system down completely (rather than just restarting) and now my trackpad is wonky.
I can use the trackpad like normal with one finger, and two-finger vertical scrolling works as long as I'm inside an application. I can also use two fingers to right-click. I just can't use two fingers to scroll in any direction besides up or down, and I can only scroll if I'm in an application or window that requires scrolling.
Inside my Trackpad preferences panel in System Prefs, there's a checkbox for "Secondary Tap" under "Two Fingers." The other options ("Scroll," "Rotate," etc.) appear but there is no checkbox next to them. There isn't a checkbox for "Swipe to Navigate" under "Three Fingers" either.
I will call Apple support and see what I can find out.

Toupad Tapping and Scrolling stopped working after Windows 10 Upgrade

Hi, I upgraded my OC to Windows 10 today, after the upgrade tapping and scrolling stopped working on the synaptics touchpad. the toucpad only finctions as a pointer now. for taps/Clicks i always have to use the buttons below the touchpad. It was working fine before the upgrade, the earlier OS was Windows 7 I have checked for driver updates but i get a message that the drvier is up to date.I have check the device setting and confirmed that tapping and scrolling is enabled.I have also done a device reset. Nothing solved the problem, i also did not find a relevant answer on the forums.Also, the same problem did not happen with my other HP laptop (Notebook PC) which was also upgraded to windows 10 recently. , Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums. What you will need to do is the run the Windows Update Fixer tool. Here is a link to help you with that. Make sure you run all updates including optional. Fix Microsoft Windows Update Issues If that fails to work the only other option is to roll your system back to the original supported operating system that came with your notebook. Since some update of the last days the two finger vertical scroll of my touchpad stopped working.

In any case: for some reason it's working again without problems.

2 finger pinch and 3 finger scroll stopped working

Spontaneously my 2 finger pinch and 3 finger scroll have stopped working. 4 finger not working either
2 finger right click works ok as does 2 finger scroll.
I haven't changed any settings and my software updates are fine.
Have tried deactivating them, rebooting and then reactivating with no success.
I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Horizontal scroll stopped working on Windows 7 partition

For the last few days the horizontal scroll has not been working on Windows 7 64-bit partition on my Macbook Pro 13" 2011
The vertical scroll is working fine. But horizontal has stopped working. I see the horizontal scroll bar on web pages or documents or explorer. But it does not work. It used to work before.
I have looked in Boot Camp control panel but there is not a setting to enable it.
In Apple partition both horizontal and vertical scrolls are working that means the hardware is good.

Just to clarify that the horizontal scolling is not working through the trackpad. I am not able to scroll left and right using two finger swipe...But I am able to scroll horizontally when I click and drag the scrollbar left and right

Touch Pad Scroll stops working...

When I watch Videos on Youtube, my scroll on the touch pad stops working. I don't want to have to stop using the site just cause of this little problem, any ideas to a fix for this?

This actually happens randomly on my laptop as well, and pisses me off beyond all means. I have a G60-445D notebook and it seems the problem really is with the Synaptic Touchpad drivers itself or with my Windows 7 upgrade that doesn't like it. Originally the laptop was on Vista and never really had issues. After getting my 'upgrade disc' from bestbuy/hp I've had quite a few issues with the notebook (most have been easily resolved however).
Really for this issue, HP probably shouldn't be to blame, but I will in this case seeings I have to go outside of the HP site to actually download the drivers for it (Please do add the driver to my notebooks drivers page, its quite annoying to find a driver outside of HP for my HP laptop..especially since we no longer send operating system discs or anything like that with the pc's we purchase now...but thats another issue that i have all together).
Being that nobody else has responded to this, I'll try to give my two cents of a solution to you.
Solution 1 (stupid solution really, but when im lazy or without internet at the time, this is my usual solution):
1) start
2) control panel
3) device manager
4) mice and other pointing devices
5) find your mouse in there, mine says: Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad. Right click this and choose properties
6) Click the drivers tab.
7) If you have an option to "rollback" the driver, do that. If you do not have this option, it seems "update driver" SOMETIMES works for me, might need to reboot though.
8) if you DONT want to restart your computer after this when it comes up, you can click "no" most of the time and it still works.
Solution 2 (Still stupid, cuz HP doesn't have drivers listed for my device page):
1) go to http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers
2) choose your OS and install the driver that you need.
3) Hope it works...if not, your best off trying solution 1.
Only problem is, this wont "STOP" it from failing, it will still crash on you from time to time. I'm also sure there are better solutions though. Hope this helped for time being alteast though.

When a PDF is opened in a tab, my laptop's touchpad scroll stops working for other tabs. (But works perfectly fine on the pdf tab or with every tab after closing the pdf tab)

My touchpad scroll was not working many times after i installed firefox 6. But it works perfectly fine in other browsers at the same time.
After some playing around, i found that this problem occurs only when a pdf is open in some tab (The scrolling works in pdf's tab but not in other tabs). Once that particular tab is closed, the scrolling starts working properly.

Using similar scroll function on my netbook. To add to the above, I find that using scroll is actually causing the PDF to scroll rather than the tab I'm actually in.
Reader 9 is installed on my Win7 Starter.

New mouse scrolling stopped working

I recently got a new mouse. At first scrolling worked, now it has stopped. Nothing's wrong with the mouse itself, as scrolling works in windows 7. I've checked around on the internet, and suggestions from there haven't helped. Please help.

When I open PDFs in firefox 4 RC my Synaptics touchpad 2-finger scrolling stops working.

I am using Windows 7 and have Acrobat 9 Pro installed. Scrolling works fine when I do not have a pdf open in any tab. When I have a pdf open in any tab, I can scroll in the pdf's tab but not in any other.
My logitech mousewheel works fine all the time.

There seems to be a bug in Firefox. Can you update the bug thread with who makes your touchpad and what OS you're on (Windows 7 64-bit, for example).
Hopefully, we'll get this fixed soon.

I just discovered scrolling doesn't work anymore. I saw some other posts with synaptics problems, what could cause it? I take the problem lays in one of the updated packages, not in my configuration since that didn't change.

I fiddled with the configs, added vertedgescroll "on" to xorg.conf touchpad device section (duh! ), and it's working again, don't know what happened.

Why does my scrolling stop working?

Sometimes the scrolling works in the open windows, sometimes it doesn't... It's happened with open file windows AND almost every program I use (adobe cc to iWorks....) WHY? Restarting helps, sometimes, and it's always temporarily. But I don't have time to keep restarting... OR keep looking for an answer (which I have yet to find!!) Didn't have this problem EVER before upgrading (ha) to Mavericks. AND BRING THE FOLDER HIGHLIGHT/COLORS BACK!!! OMG already!!!

My Magic Mouse does this. Dont know if you use one or not.
Really odd fix: a tiny dab of petroleum jelly (That's right, just plain ol' Vaseline") on my fingertip keeps it scrolling.

I hate to ask, but what does this mean? Are you double-clicking or "drop" opening a movie and no player is opening? Are you simply clicking on the application icon and no player is opening but the application name does display in the top-left area of you monitor? Do you get a modal message saying something is wrong or saying the application quit unexpectedly while opening? Please try to be more specific regarding what is actually taking place as this may provide additional clues as to whether the problem is in the application, the operating system, 32-bit/64-bit mode switching/access problems, missing playback components for 32-bit routines, component list ordering conflicts, etc.

Scrolling stopped working after Xorg update, already disabled hotplug

Heres my xorg file, everything works except for twofinger scrolling, circular scrolling, and regular scrolling. All three worked before the update. Also, gsynaptic will not open. It gives me the following error:
GSynaptics couldn't initialize.
You have to set 'SHMConfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use GSynaptics
But as you can see, I already have SHMConfig set to true. Help
