Inexpensive video caputure cards known to work with G5

I am looking for an inexpensive video capture card to put in my G5 that I can use to capture streams from old vhs and dvds. I don't need anything fancy. I can edit them with other programs.
If you have used a card and/or it is known to work with mac osx / g5, can you please post the name, model number, and your comments on performance.

Hi jon_jon;
Well your price limit has eliminated everything I have been able to find up till now so I guess I stop searching.

  • 2014 Video cards known to WORK with XPS 8300 (stock)

I have the XFX R7 250E (downgrading to a decent single slot card) and only get the black screen and no boot-up so I was encouraged to see it worked for someone.  I was also guilty of not uninstalling previous AMD drivers so I used the thorough Toms hardware guide to do so and tried it again.  Again, no joy.   Then I pulled a couple installed PCIe boards out (more "stock") but nothing helped .  I have the same system as the original poster with the A06 bios.  Apparently what I lack is some magic dust.  Extremely frustrating.  I'll be trying out the Visiontek HD 7750 (at $50 more!) next as it's supposed to work at least according to Dell.....

I got the Visiontek HD 7750 through Newegg (saved a few bucks) and it did not work.  Same product number, 900549, as what's listed on the Dell site for the 8300.  Maybe the Dell versions have a different bios on them to force compatibility.  Never wanted to even change my card, just trying to get at the PCIe slot covered over by the double-wide 5770.....aargh!

  • Fast ATA cards can't work with a B&W?

My computer was running very well with 4 drives hooked up to a Tempo 100 card until I put those pieces in an 8600. I have been trying to use SATA drives, and ATA drives larger than 120 Gigs with numerous cards, but nothing works with OS9; a 250 Gig SATA drive seems to work in OSX whether it is hooked up to a Firmtek card, or a Macsense ATA/SATA combo card. I have hooked up 2 new 160 Gig drives (Seagate, Hitachi) to the Macsense card and a Siig ATA raid card and the computer freezes before anything appears on the desktop, and nothing is on the menu bar. Each drive was intialized after switching cards.PRAM, and the Cuda chip have been reset. no other cards are in PCI slots except the video card. This has been stumping me for over a month.

The computer with a problem is a B&W G3 that has a 500MHz G4, and 1meg of RAM. It also has a ATI Radeon 7000, and is running OS 9.2.1 with no other software installed. It did have a Aurora Fuse PCI card in it, but it is out now.
The computer was very stable when it had 4 drives hooked up to a Sonnet Tempo 100 card. I wanted larger, faster drives. I have tried 3 PCI cards in it and have trouble with all three. The cards are:
    the first SATA card from Firmtek;
    a card from MacSense that has 2 SATA channels,and 1 channel ATA;
the ATA 133/100 RAID card from Siig that is set to non-RAID operation.
I have 2 SATA drives, 160 Gig and 250 Gig, and 2 ATA drives, both 160 Gigs that I have used with the cards.
Using any combination to boot from OS 9.2.1 results in a freeze right before the icons are placed on the desktop. No text is in the menu bar as well. The drives in all cases have been initialized before OS installation. TechTool 3 reports problems with files, and the drives failing the "seek", "zero unit", and "self diagnosis".
A SATA drive with OSX, and other programs seemed ok; It would boot with no problem, and the other software was useable, but last night it wouldn't boot.
CUDA and PRAM have been reset many times.

  • Do SD card readers not work with 10.3?

I have an old G4 Power mac, and my kids have iMac G5s. We all run 10.3.9, and have SD card readers, and none of them work at all. Does Apple acknowledge that SD cards do not work with Macs, and/or was this fixed in 10.4? We are looking to replace our computers, and this is a deal breaker.

Okay, I did a little more research, and here's what I have found.
(Yes, I'm talking about a USB card reader.)
On my ancient G4 Mac, the 2GB card never mounts. I can see it with Disk Utility, but Disk Utility usually offers to format it. When I do this, it attempts to format it as a 1GB card, and fails.
However, I found an old 16MB card, and it mounts every time.
My kids both have a reader and a 2GB card for their iMacs. They usually mount okay, but not always. Sometimes it takes a restart.
The 2GB cards are all a funky off-brand, "Adata." The 16MB card is a Canon.
Now I am wondering if it's the cheap cards, or the capacity of the cards. I remember reading at one time that some Macs don't want to see removable drives over 1GB. This may be the problem with my computer. I just ordered a 1GB PQI card, we'll see how that does when it arrives.
My mac has both USB 1.1 and 2.0 slots. Same results on either bus.

  • Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box.

Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box. Thanks! Olga

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

  • Small CF card reader that works with the iPad Camera Kit?

I'm looking for a small (not much bigger than a CF card) CF Card reader that works with the iPad Camera kit (USB piece) - Anyone know of one?
All the ones I see people suggesting are big and bulky (made for a desktop). I know there are many smaller ones, but that the iPad camera kit doesn't work with everyone. Anyone know one that works with it?

My set up, quite compact for travel, this is a no brand version but I have seen other ones branded Integra or something similar.

  • Does Sonnet Express Card 34 eSata Work with Lion?

I am looking to see if the Sonnet Express Card 34 eSata  works with Lion OS

If your card is listed on the product site from Sonnet (e.g: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/tempo_sata_express34.html), you could get the answer by looking at the "Technical Specifications". Be sure that you're looking at the specifications of the correct card, since some seem to be compatible and some are not. Furthermore, if your card is based on the Silicon Image Sil3132 chip, it's (today) not supported. If there are any doubts left, try to connect Sonnet directly...

  • Anyone know of any greeting card program that works with OS  x?

anyone know of any greeting card program that works with OS X?

There is no solution. The Canon UFR2 driver used by the MF series does not work when connected to a Windows share or a wireless print server, including the Airport Extreme or Express. The problem is wholly to do with the way in which Canon has written this driver and therefore the Canon support staff should know this and tell you (although their Mac knowledge in Australia is pitiful and most likely the same in your region).
If you had a model with Ethernet, then you could connect it to the wireless router and print via IP > LPD. But I know that your MF4150 only has USB as I mate of mine had one and he had exactly the same issue on Tiger, which I documented on the Tiger forum and the Airport printing forum.
So, don't waste your money on a print server. Get rid of the Canon and get something that will work for all your OS's. If I can suggest, the safest purchase would be to get a model that supports Postscript. While this does cost more, it will help to avoid any limitations that can occur when using a vendors proprietary printer language, like Canon's UFR2.

  • Video Cards that will work with AE CC

I need a card to work with my AE CC on the road..(LAP TOP)  for video editing and AE production of changes.I understand the list provided by adobe is a partial list I would like some other choices
    Thanks   Dave
    [email protected]

If you're using AE CC, there is no need to use the ray-traced renderer. It has now become obsolete with the arrival of faster-rendering, more powerful solution that comes FREE! Check out the  details of CINEMA 4D integration with After Effects CC (12.0)
The card list on the Adobe page is for cards that are certified to accelerate rendering of the ray-traced renderer. Otherwise AE uses the GPU for very little. Read more on the GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects CS6 here. Now, some third-party effects (like Element 3d or Red Giant Universe) make use of the GPU, but their requirements are very different and they could use a much broader range of cards. If you plan to use any of them, you'd need to consult their requirements.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

  • USB Framegrabbers that are known to work with NI-IMAQ-dx

Does anybody know of any (preferably compact) USB framegrabbers, whether in a finished package, or in chip / development board form, that are known to be compatible with the IMAQ-dx capture?  I am currently using a Zarbeco Videolink USB Framegrabber, but I get an unknown error message when attempting to interface with it through NI-IMAQ-DX in both Labview 8.5 (kept around for some legacy programs), and Labview 2012.  Other USB webcams work just fine with the VI, so I know it's not an error in my code - just a problem with this particular framegrabber talking to Labview.  I also know that the framegrabber works fine, because it can be viewed in other video capture programs such as AmCap.  I'd prefer to figure out if a replacement USB framegrabber would be suitable BEFORE I make a purchase, so if anyone knows of any USB composite video framegrabbers that work well with NI-IMAQ-dx, I would appreciate the info.

    Hi James,
In order for any USB camera or USB video adaptor to work with the IMAQdx driver it must be DirectShow compatible. If your Video Adaptor advertises DirectShow compatible then it should work with our IMAQdx driver. Please follow the guide lines from the link below to find a proper device.
