Infinite Incoming Messages and other Strange things...

I am currently experiencing an issue where Mac OS X Mail shows that there are "Incoming Messages... 10 of 25", However, the 'downloading bar' hasn't budged for the last few days, and I have received no incoming messages. This issue has just suddenly occurred one morning when I woke up and I can find no cause for it yet. It is definitely not a problem with anything other than Mail.app as my iPod Touch is receiving the emails fine on the same WiFi connection. I have tried everything including restarts to fix the problem, and so far nothing has worked. Something even stranger, is that another account in Mail is receiving emails, but delayed by several hours behind my iPod Touch.
And stranger still, whilst I say I have been receiving no messages, I have actually been receiving one.... over and over and over again... it's now reached 15 times. Exactly the same email, same 'Date Received', same everything. So I don't want my mailbox filled up with the same duplicate email so I select them all and hit delete. Gone... However, if I click in another part of Mail and then come back to my inbox... Gasp! All of my duplicate emails have mysteriously re-appeared from the garbage So I thought I'd try deleting another random email, but the same thing happened... it had soon come back from the dead and popped back into my Inbox.
So I've done all of the obvious things like Quit Mail, and restart the computer, but nothing has worked so far. And one more odd thing... Each time I re-open Mail another one of those duplicate emails arrives.
If anyone has any ideas what so ever on what could be causing this issue or ways I could fix it, I'd love to hear them and would appreciate any responses.
Thanks a lot and I look forward to any posts.
Cheers,
Cuby

I am having pretty much the same problem. Every time I start mail it downloads the same emails over again and gets stuck on 56 of 199. I have tried deleting the cache, but that didn't help.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Craig

  • Lost all previously sync'd emails and other strange things.....

Yesterday I noticed some odd things on my BB and was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.
    1.  When I went into my phone to make a call around mid-day, the typical call log file was empty - first strange thing.
    2.  After I sent an SMS it was in listed in my mail as a sent message but then it would disappear from view.  The users received the message but my record of it disappeared without me deleting it.
    3.  I lost all previously sync'd emails from my corporate email before 4:56 PM yesterday.  Although emails from my comcast account which I sync still appeared.
    4.  When I looked at available memory it was 0% and then it slowly crept up to 14038765 bytes
Based on number 4 above, am I to assume my BB dumped items due to a memory issue?
Understanding that  can be the case I am still losing records of IM's received and sent without me deleting them.
Any thoughts from the forum members are welcome.
Lastly - what does Theme Controlled mean under General Options/ SMS and Email Inboxes?
    Have a nice day -

Grapechic, this probably has to do with your device memory. Please see the article below (pulled from the support page on blackberry.com).
Call and SMS logs disappear when BlackBerry smartphone is low on memory
    Doc ID : KB11570
    Last Modified : 2007-05-17
    Document Type : Support
    Environment
    BlackBerry® smartphone
    BlackBerry Device Software 4.2
ProblemWhen the BlackBerry smartphone is low on memory, Short Message Service (SMS) logs and call logs disappear.
CauseWhen the BlackBerry smartphone becomes critically low on memory, SMS messages and call logs will automatically be deleted in order to keep a minimum amount of free space available. This functionality is by design.
ResolutionIf the BlackBerry smartphone becomes low on memory, try the following:
Check how much memory is currently available. See KB04353 for further information.
Ensure that media is saved on the media card, and not on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Since web browsing results in cached files on the BlackBerry smartphone try clearing the browser cache. See KB03865 for further information.
Lower the reserved picture memory setting. See KB12383 for further information.
Use the application loader tool to remove any unused applications, such as themes, ring tones, or third-party applications.
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. Check the available memory after the hard reset. See KB02141 for further information.
If the issue still persists, perform the following, checking the available memory after each step.
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions see KB02141. Then clear unnecessary calls logs and phone messages.
Remove Phone Call and SMS log databases from the BlackBerry smartphone. See KB03974 for further information.
Perform an application load to erase all applications and install the latest BlackBerry Device Software. See KB03621 for further information.

  • Do you have an option for block all incoming message and request EXCEPTED messages from my contacts?

Please help!!To whom it may concernDear Madam/Sir who works for Skype & Microsoft  Dear all who can really help,  Do you have an option for block all incoming message and request EXCEPTED messages from my contacts? or Do you have any solution to solve my problem from begin to now in present time?  Even though, I set the Privacy settings: - Allow calls from... "people in my Contact list only"- Automatically received video and share screens with "people in my Contact list only"- Allow IMs from "people in my Contact list only"  I still received unknow users sent me messages in every day, contact requests etc. And they're all clearly spammings and identity thefts.  I only wanna contact with my family and my freinds here with Skype via my Windows device and my mobile phone (w/Android OS).  And this is the only way to contact with them, because they could use Skype only in overseas.  BUT I don't need new friend from other unknow Skype member.   I keep blocked all unknow spammers in every day.  However in this morning, I feel so scared with Skype on my mobile, I looked at my mobile Skype, I saw it automatically showed me the list of all blocked members. BUT they were all unblocked (contact unblocked) by my mobile (Android version) Skype itself automatically, and listed them one by one on the screen, and about 30 seconds later, they all were disappeared suddenly.  I don't know what do to now, is it indicating my account was hacked? And how could I found out all those members again and block them again and delete all of them for ever?  I appreciate if you would improve the privacy protection. Thank you very very very much.

Hrm... that may be true and this may be a function of the phone email client that Apple just doesn't do.
No, I can easily MANUALLY delete the messages. I would prefer if I didn't have to do it twice, tho. Once on the mail server and once on the phone.
What I think the phone needs to do is, when it checks the POP, anything NOT there should be removed locally. I think you are correct on POP; the phone will poll the mx (mail exchanger) and the mx will pass off the messages to the phone. The phone then keeps ALL of that unitl you manually delete it.
If, say, I remove a message from the mx, I would like the phone, when next polls, to see that that particular message isn't on the server anymore and remove it locally.
Perhaps it's just me but if I delete the message on the mx itself, via my ISP's webmail interface, I really don't want to have to remove it again from my phone.
    thxs!
    cheers

The answer is very simple: You were not the original owner of the phone. Target sold you a phone that had been returned. You can verify the date of the original sale here: Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage. I suspect you will find that the warranty expiration date is not one year from the date that you bought it.

  • How to set up the iPhone 5 so that I can receive iMessage (incoming messages) and send text messages (outgoing) every time?

How do I set up the iPhone 5 so that I can receive iMessage (incoming messages) and send text messages (outgoing) every time? I have limited internet quota but unlimited sms!

    Thanks!!
The reason I don't want to set it off is because I want to let others send me iMessage - most people prefer that according to their plan.
How do I bring this request to the hands of the people doing the ios updates? Maybe they could work on this for the future...

  • My Apple Mail is showing 100 million incoming messages and climbing at a rate of about 20k per second

My Apple Mail is showing 100 million incoming messages and climbing at a rate of about 20k per second. Where are all these going and how do I get this to stop?
    thanks

Whoa, was your email exposed on a public forum/TV show?
First I would sign out of Mail right away.
Second I would go to your email's website and sign into there. Examples... icloud.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com and whatever you use. Just to see if it's happening there. If it is happening there, then I strongly suggest changing your email address and whatever website  you used it on for login information.
If it's not happening there, then hopefully when you sign back into Mail it won't happen again. If it does happen again, let us know. I wouldn't be able to help but maybe someone else could.

  • I'm affraid I lost my "Word" document of 30 pages. I can see only stars, squares and other strange figures. How can I recover this? Please I need help!!!

I need help! My daughter is busy with her final studyprogram. Her "word" document changed into stars and other strange figures. Is there a possibility to recover this. I hope someone can help her!!!! thanks jvdharst

Are you using the latest version of MS Word?  It’s possible you can restore the corrupt file from the last saved version or the automatically saved version.  Have you tried that?  MS Word uses a folder called Autorecover to store temporary versions of your file.  Hopefully there’s a good version in that folder.  Use Finder to search for Autorecover if needed.

  • Missing messages and other recent Mail.app quirks

    HI,
Although I've read through many post on this issue, I haven't found one that seems to apply to my situation. And, the process seems really confusing... so I thought I'd ask you guy's.
I rebuilt my inbox's last night, and:
    1. 1 of my 2 POP inbox's is now empty (except for a couple new mails today). There were about 150 messages.
    2. My .mac inbox is receiving mails, but first the little spinner thing wouldn't stop spinning, and has switched to a blue clock looking thing that's stuck at about 10:30 (may have moved to 11:00 now?).
    3. Drafts don't seem to be saving.
    4. Seems that the audio feedback is gone or was gone (the sound is up and the speakers to work).
    5. I was getting a strange error message when sending that I didn't write down (something to do with the Trash and 0 space or something).
I've been on this new machine (OS 10.4.5) since November with no Mail.app (2.0.7) trouble at all (I moved from a TiBook that had once had Panther on it). And, I didn't let this last Security update install. I had been trying to resolve some POP SMTP server issues, but went with .mac with the "reply to" option (I'm stuck in a hotel in southern China), and I did lose one email that I had just sent... which prompted the rebuild of the mailbox's. Still can't find that missing email- but I did get a reply from the person I sent it to.
There weren't many messages in that now empty inbox, but they were the important ones (which I think I located in Library > Mail folder thanks to you folks).
I can survive with issues 2 - 5 above if necessary, but I'd really like to deal with the missing message problem.
Should I just "import mailbox's" back in and hope it all works? Will I lose those new mails from today? Can you offer me any advice?
Sorry if I rambled on too much (too much spare time on a Sunday morning in China), and thank you in advance for any thoughts,
    Guy

    Guy,
Different answers for each file. The CachedData1 is a leftover file from an IMAP or .mac account -- Mail no longer uses that method of caching, so delete.
The two MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded are used with each POP account, and are still valid file types -- however, one of them should be modified each time you access your POP server -- check the dates modified again.
The two files named to begin with Incoming are leftovers, and probably must simply be deleted. They resulted in the mailbox where you found them when a message had been received (even if by transfer) and that mailbox was not opened prior to the conversion. In Panther, and earlier, these files would disappear when the mailbox was opened to view. It probably is only one or two messages -- the Incoming_Mail file can be read with TextEdit to confirm.
I think the Envelope Index Journal results during an incomplete indexing attempt Mail has made at some point, was meant to be temporary -- I am not entirely sure about this, but I do not have one.
The time out on port zero is one I need to research -- although I have seen a few reports, and think there is some explanation, I cannot remember as I write this.
There is an ongoing issue with .mac and continuation of the indicator for activity -- I see this on my iBook G4, but not on my G5. Useless needed for Offline use, set Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced to Don't save all message and attachment for Offline viewing, which may help. I hope this one get addressed in some future update.

  • Lion and Mavericks (strange things going on)

    Hello everybody,
    I have a 2010 (white) macbook,
I just installed Mavericks and updated it to 10.9.3. The macbook runs both 10.7 Lion (my main and most important partition) and 10.9, it's a dual boot.
My partition with Lion is called ''Macintosh HD'' and the one with Mavericks is called ''OS X Mavericks''. (Mavericks is startup partition)
Now i'm using both together some strange things are happening. First off when i opened Finder in Mavericks it only showed ''Macintosh HD'' like that was the partition Mavericks was installed on, now i've added the right partition in the sidebar of the finder (OS X Mavericks). This was already weird.
When i went back into Lion everything was fine but it stated indexing ( i guess the mavericks partition ) this annoyed me because i want them to be seperate.
So I went to settings > Spotlight > Privacy and added ''OS X Mavericks'' so Lion stopped indexing that part of my harddrive.
When I went into Mavericks again, the spotlight on Mavericks was indexing and then randomly stopped. I went in to Setting > Spotlight and Privacy again.
Only now in Mavericks. Guess what: in privacy ''OS X Mavericks'' partition was added.
Is Mavericks reading from the wrong partition??
Is spotlight running between two OS X versions?
How can i make sure Mavericks is reading info from the right partition?
It would be very nice if someone could tell me more about this..
    Thanks in advance !!

I remember when Lion first came out, I installed a second Lion partiton and had issues similar to this. The MAS failed to work at all in the new Lion partition until I removed the original.
I suspect there is something with Lion that only likes one OS X per drive.
You might need to install Mavericks on an external drive rather than the second partition.

  • My mail activity shows more than 1 million incoming messages and is moving in lots of 10 thousand - this is happening periodically  - what is wrong?

Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks my mail has been periodically showing incoming messages at larger and larger volumes.   Sometimes in the hundreds of thousands and today in the millions.  Clearly I don't have that going on  - it seems to eat my resources for a bit and then stops - I have no idea what is going on.  Suggestions?

It is a bug. Quit Mail and then reopen it. Should fix it.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • 2 bugs.. and some strange things..

Hi, i use my new iphone 5 since a weekswith  iOS 6.1.4, and so far i found to bugs, first bug, i'am most of the time on Airplane mode (for my convenience..) if someone let me a voicemail and after i  listen it when i go back to Airplane mode i have a red icon just like i have a new Voicemail un listened, i get out of airplane mode and no more voicemail, i can do that many time alway red icon on airplane mode and in fact no new voicemail when not in airplane mode..
Ieven try to delete the voicemail i have listen but i still have this red icon on voicemail and i go on airplane mode.. only 2 solutions for now, go on deleted voicemail and delete them from recycle bin, or a Real iPhone reboot (press 10 sec on start button...) i never had this problem on older iOS version on my iPhone 4..
Second bug, i get sometime since 2 weeks i have a almost black screen, then i go on general > brightness and wallpapper and i see that brightness become set to almost 0, so i move the cursor to around 80 %, next day again same thing, so i uncheck auto adjustment and now it work, auto adjustment is cool and alway worked fine on my old version iOS on iphone 4, if you can fix that..
Also as i talk to you (hope you read ;-) some impression, i prefer by Far the old Keypadto make a dial compare to new one who look B@d to me...
each time i get our of airplane mode i have for 2 sec (no network, then he find, before he searched and then say no network if it's true, in fact i have more bad network and safari won't find any connection with my new iphone (same operator (SFR)
I feel the battery of my iphne 5 get used more fast then the one on my iphone 4....,
    Thank's
    Stephane

/ isnt full, there is like 4gb free space...
and i made a mistake, /sbin/shutdown was there, but when i typed "shutdown -h now" it says that "shutdown" is an unknown command. (i just had that error again!). root uses bash as default shell... it didnt work in tty, it didnt work in urxvt, this time i typed /sbin/shutdown -h now and that worked... but its still not like it should be. And it doesnt explain the random corruption of packages...
    EDIT:
Same problem with any other files out of /sbin...  the strange thing is, in /etc/profile, $PATH looks like this:
    /bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/bin:/home/jan/bin:/usr/local/bin
    but echo $PATH gives me:
    ./:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin

  • Apple Mail Infinite Incoming Messages

I have 9 email accounts setup in Apple Mail. They all worked on various Macs and iOS devices until the recent upgrades to iOS7 and Mavericks. On my Macs, all with Mavericks via a completely clean install, I am having the following issues:
    * Mail using excessive (> 100% CPU on multi core machines) CPU as long as it is open
    * "Mail Activity" shows an ever growning number of "Incoming Messages"
    * Settings are not being remembered.
    I have tried the following:
    * Delete ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    * Delete ~/Library/Mail
    * Remove ALL accounts from Mail and "Internet Accounts"
    * Rebooting
    * Relaunching Mail
    * Disabling accounts
    * Pretty much every combination of the above
Nothing seems to work. The disappearing settings may be the result of trying many different combinations of the above methods and forgetting when I deleted them specifically but I am sure that they have disappeared at least once without that having been the case.

CT - The problem is certainly not the standard behaviour so it is unsurprising that everyone cannot reproduce it. I did a new clean install after an upgrade some time ago and everything magically worked. I tried to list all the possibly relevant criteria in my original post but it is clearly not the whole story as I am no longer experiencing the problem
RedRacer123 - It is not a virus. It is just talk back and forth between your server and client (Mail). Especially with Gmail accounts there are a bunch of messages that are synced and archived behind the scenes which do not get displayed as new and unread (e.g. spam, chats). Regardless the problem I experienced and the problem that Megan62 is experiencing is different than just being unrelated: the count just rises and one can see that Mail is using a bunch of CPU doing something but it doesn't ever seem to finish whatever that is. I get a lot of mail but I do not have 250 MILLION messages when I see a counter go that high it is a bug in some while loop.
Megan62 - Sorry I don't have any advice other than try removing all your accounts email accounts from the computer and adding them back one by one. Hopefully whatever happened to cause the error will not happen again. I also think it might help to move as many emails out of your inbox as possible but I am not certain on that.

  • Why does my email show thousands(!) of incoming messages -- and more...!

How come every day when I log in and open my mail, the bottom of the email screen shows thousands of incoming messages -- see attached. This happens every day. Today was the highest amount I've ever seen -- 452449 -- and it is still running closed the mail program because I was worried it would take up space on my hard drive if that many messages were really coming in.
My normal messages appear in the in-boxes and a few junk emails. I've had gmail since it started, but even if it was downloading my entire history of emails, I doubt I would be anywhere near ten thousand.
I use a few different gmail accounts and read the email on the Mail program on Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2011 Air.
    Thanks!
