Infinite "Installing" when trying to install Micrtek Scanner S/W

Question

I am trying to use the installer CD for my Microtek SlimScan C3 on my G4 eMac running 10.3.9. When I select the installer, I get an "INSTALLING" window and the spinning wheel of death which I must force quit after I get tired of watching it. This same Microtek installer CD and the C3 scanner work fine on my ancient 233 MHz iMac running 9.0.4. By the way, the C3 scanner WAS working fine on my eMAC but recently the eMAC would not recognize the scanner. I have been trying to reinstall the Microtek installer S/W since that happened. Any ideas on what is happening and how to resolve this S/W loading problem on my eMac?

Welcome to the discsusions area. A quick search of
the micoteck site tells that the softare is not
supported in X.

This is odd as you state that the canner worked on
your e-mac. Perhaps you had Photohop or another
application that used a TWain driver to see the
scanner.
I think that you will be able to use the scanner but
you may have to find a driver that will work with
your application..
IMPORTANT Also make sure the cable is good that
goes to the scanner. I assume this is a usb device.
Perhaps a change of cable would allow the scanner to
be seen on the e-mac.
I would change the cable then go to the MicroTek site
and search their support Q's and A's. This should
get you started on finding a solution.

I've got my scanner working again!! Here's the answer, although I don't understand the underlying reasons. I remembered that I had a similar problem over a year ago when I tried to use my older Epson printer with my new eMac. The old printer CD just would not load under Classic. Here's what I did then and just repeated for the scanner. It works! I loaded the scanner software on my old iMac running OS 9.0.4. Then I copied the various extensions, preferences and the Scan Suite application to a ZIP drive and transferred those extensions, prefs and apps into the eMac's OS Classic system folder and applications. Viola! The scanner and software (which could not be loaded from the scanner CD) work perfectly with OS9 Classic running under Panther. It would be interesting to learn from those of you who know the inner workings of the MAC OS why this manual insertion technique from 9.0.4 to 9.2.2 (??Classic??) works yet you can't load the software pieces from the original scanner CD directly into OS Classic when running OS 10.3.9.
