Infinity 80/20 slow

have just had infinity 80/20 fitted last week ,started at 57meg on pc next to hub (wired) next day down to 0.65 download 0.35 up load it has been around this speed for the last 6 days , i have a netbook (wirless) and get 29meg download and 7meg upload , has anyone an idea whats could be wrong please before i get in touch with BT .

Mine is maxing out at around 17mb down and 8mb up now wired, getting similar speeds wireless.  The Engineer said I should get 48mb down, 20mb up, I was getting 36 down and 12 up a couple of weeks ago but there is no consistency.
The IP profile now says that anywhere between 12 and 17 is acceptable for my line down
Don't get me wrong it's far faster than the 1.5mb down I was getting with Sky but still would like to know why I'm not getting what I paid for.
It was installed on 3rd May so now outside the 10 day bedding in period!

  • BT Infinity Hub 3 slow to load pages and drops out...

Hi can anyone help, I have had Infinity option2 for less than a month and it has not work properly since it was installed,
done all the around the houses with help from India and they have thanked me for my patience and acknowledge there
is a fault which they say they have fixed, but it's getting worse.
When I do a speed test I get 36Mb down and 8Mb up, great but when I am loading websites they usually take a long time to load and frequently drop out, when I hit the diagnose connection they usually load. I also cannot send or sometimes receive email from my accounts, with server error fault messages also my webcam does not work I can here them but they cannot here me, never had these problems with my previous ISP on only 8Mb.
    Thank you, getting desperate now!

Mate, I feel your pity as, although I've only had Infinity for 4 days, I'm having the exact same problem and NEVER had this issue in the 4 years I was on BT Total Broadband.  To summarise:
Day 1 - Everything worked perfectly
Day 2 - Internet would not load one single page
Day 3 - Working perfectly again
Day 4 - Most pages load, albeit VERY slow
BT India have told me that I have a fault in my line and an engineer will call me back in the next 24/48 hours.  Apparently I was the first person on my cabinet to have Infinity installed so I'm guessing I'm the guinea pig!!!

  • Infinity Speed Very Slow and BT Speed Checker Not ...

Hi, I’m new here and I’m hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction with an infinity issue.
I’ve had BT infinity for almost 12 months and everything speed wise has been fine until the last month or so.  My modem started to slowly die in January, but this has now been replaced by Kelly Services, the engineer who replaced the modem said the speed would now increase.  It hasn’t and I’m stuck on about a 3mb download connection which is what I was getting previously with Talk Talk.  I usually get a connection speed of between 20 – 30mb (currently advertised as up to 40mb).  I’ve tried numerous times to run the BT speed test whilst wired to the home hub but it fails every time at 96% just saying test error.
I’m currently using the bbc iplayer speed checker to see what I’m running at and have tried this using a wireless and wired connection and there’s very little difference between the two.
I have a home hub 2 with firmware version 4.7.5.1.83.2.11.2.6 (Type B) Last updated 20/11/11
I’ve reset the home hub to factory settings since the modem was replaced and this did fix another issue I was having where I could not connect new devices to the home hub without having to manually enter all the network details, but no joy with the connection speed.
Does anyone know if there is an alternative speed check I can use to get all the necessary details that BT will want to see or will this be one for the mods to check?
    Thanks

    Hi and Welcome.
It is the BT Speedtest results ( http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ ) that BT need.
The IP settings you've been put on and the speeds your achieving are important parts of the FTTC Diagnostic test.
(Might be interesting to try the Beta up to 24Mbps if you still can't get the main one to run... although it will not have the full info).
So can only suggest you try turning off the Modem and Home Hub 2 for a minute or so, then when powered back up try and run the FTTC diagnostic part when WIRED.
(Might be worth trying a different ethernet port on the HH2).
And if you can another laptop to be really certain where the fault lies.
If  the test fails again I would paste a copy of the failure in your thread as "AFTER REBOOT and ETHERNET PORT CHANGE" Test Results failure.
Then complete the BT Forum Mods contact form http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
And add the URL of this form to the contact form, so BT can see the tests you've already tried and results.
They will contact you, it may take 72hrs or so due their workload.
Example of results the BT speedtest look like and improvement HERE.
Btw it's not recommended to turn the Modem off too often as that may trick the Exchange equipment (DLM) into thinking you have a line fault, and it could reduce the IP settings slowing down your broadband in an attempt to provide a reliable broadband.
An occasional turn off for testing or holidays will be ok though.
I've also had my modem replaced by Kelly, but still have it mounted vertically to make sure it's cooling vents work most efficiently. Make sure yours is still running cool.

  • Bt infinity way to slow !!! Need some help

We just got bt infinity 1 installed with home hub 5 as well, I did a speed test and it was only getting 10mbps download, 5 Mbps upload and 85 ping, is this good or bad. We currently have 10 devices connected to internet in this house, I can't even watch normal you tube videos in 480p, this is annoying as paid a lot of money for it, I know the problem can rely down to the amount I people connected, it may be also down to where the router is ? Need some help to how we can get best performance and how to share the connection between all of us or how to get more as on the best package available ? Thanks will need all the help as the internet is atrocious right now, almost as bad as our non infinity by home hub 2 we had a few days ago

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results
    http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
and use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

As you have a Homehub 5 can you also post the stats from 1-12 by logging onto the homehub management pages then troubleshooting > helpdesk. http://bthomehub.home/

  • Llandaff, Cardiff BT Infinity speeds very slow

    Hi
I am not in the least a techie person! I only know that after having had BT Infinity for some months with no problems, in the past few days it is crawling. Where once I could download a TV programme on iPlayer in a few minutes, my last attempt took one and a half hours. Music no longer streams, nor videos and a single image can take several miutes to download and save. I did a speed test and the download speed was 4.26 (8.07 up) with wild fluctuations. I don't know what speeds I had with Inifinity before but the system was certainly faster than this! BBC iPlayer on the TV can't playback more than 10 seconds at a time, with 20 second timeouts in between. All in all a shambles. I am assuming that the weather may have had some effects but is anyone in the know about this problem please? I'm not sure what to do next. Cheers, Karen

Thank you again. I ran the test, input my phone number as instructed. This was the result. Presumably that means call the BT helpline? :-(  Can't say I understand the significance of the results re. IP profile. Duh!

  • New Infinity installation is slower than ADSL - Su...

BT just rolled out Superfast broadband in my area so I signed up with BT. I was promised 13Mbps/1Mbs which was disappointing as it's nowehhere near the 'Superfast' speeds that BT advertise. I already have an ADSL line from TalkTalk which tests out at about 6.5Mbs/0.8Mbps so even though I will be paying 50% more at least I was promised that I would get double the speed. If only that were true!
A brand new line was run to the house on 20/5/2015 & the BT Homehib installed. However the speed is only 5Mbps/1Mbps & has not changed since installation. I immediately called customer support on the day of installation but they say there is nothing wrong with my line but clearly there is as I am not getting anywhere near a 'Superfast' speed not even the same speed as my exisiting ADSL line.
What do I need to do to escalate this & get the problem sorted? Clearly I don't intend paying 50% more to get an inferior 'Superfast' line from BT.

  • Infinity 1 and slow speeds during the evening and ...

    Was installed Tues 4th June.
Predicted speed was 21.5 down and 5.0up, when installed it was actually 28.0 so pleased with that.
    I.P profile 25.
Speed is absolutely fine during the day - 24 down, but every evening it plummets to between 1-3 mb. This can be anytime from 7.00pm - midnight and can last 30 minutes or sometimes 4hrs.
I've ran hundreds of speed tests and from several sites. They all show the same results on both laptops wired and wireless.
I had a call from the network fault specialist team on Wed and was told they needed proof (I have already sent numerous attachments via online chat) so the next time it happens to report it again.
So tonight I contacted online chat again (cos my fault is due to be closed tomorrow) he then transferred my call to the escalation department. He ran loads of checks and diagnostics but couldn't find any fault. He said the only thing they could do was to get an engineer out, but he agreed with me that the engineer wouldn't see the fault either as it only happens during the evening.
I eventually agreed to the engineer visit being as there is nothing else I could do, but then he couldn't book one. It said on his system that being as the diagnostic tests didnt show a fault no engineer is required.
He said my only option now is to pay for a local technician, which I refuse to do or to ring 0800 800 150 option 2 the cancellation department.
Runs perfectly during the day but terrible in the evening, what else can I do?
home hub 3 and ecl modem have both been reset, makes no difference, other than slightly lowering my i.p profile!

  • Infinity and PS3 slow speeds wired or wireless.

Hello,  wondering if anyone can help ive tried connecting my ps3 with both wired and wireless connections and either never give me more than 5mb download speed or upload.
I have put the ps3 in the DMZ and even tried connecting using my pc as a proxy server. My PC which is connected by wired as well does actually get 76mb regularly.
I used to get at least 8mb with standard broadband.
Also my phone (xperia arc) gets about 18mb.
I have tried different times of day with just the ps3 connected and no difference. Im lucky to get 2mb on ps3 on most occasions.

Its far more likely that the PS3 is not capable of any faster speeds, after all, it s a games console with dedicated graphics chipsets, so the CPU may simply not run that fast.
The actual speed could be simply be restricted by the PS3 network interface, as 9Mbs would be quite fast enough for access to remote servers, whose speed is going to be only a fraction of that per user.

  • Slow Infinity and incompetent staff.

My Infinity has been slow for almost 2 weeks now. Getting "speeds" of 2-8mbps. It used to be 20+.
I've been trying to get this fixed.
Firstly it took BT ages to understand I am not availible before 7pm as I am in work.
Then when I went through online to chat to a technical advisor they said my profile had not been updated and an engineer will be sent to fix it. They did that and it's still slow.
Last night at 8.55pm they phoned only to say there's an error on their system and can they call back tomorrow.
They've just called saying it my be a faulty ADSL filter and to plug in my spare one. I said I'll have to go find it and try it.
They said they'll call back tomorrow.
I found the filter and got to my phone socket only to find with fire optic broadband an ADSL filter isn't even used as there are 2 sockets, 1 for the phone and an added on one that was attacted when the Infinity was installed. Surely the staff should know how these systems are set up!
If this isn't fixed by Saturday I'll be going over to Virgin.

  • How can I be sure that changing from ADSL to Infin...

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade from ADSL to Infinity, but I am not convinced there will be any real benefit to me and BT are not being helpful.
I am currently with Talk Talk and consistently get between 19.5 and 20 meg sync speeds. I don't know where my street cabinet is or where an associated FTTC might be. In view of my proximity to the exchange, there may not even be a street cabinet?
By road, the distance to the exchange, depending on the route, could be anywhere between 0.75km and 1.5km and the cable will doubtless be longer.
I tried to ask a technical question through the BT website, all that did was get a sales person to call me to sign me up to the 56/78 package that I wanted. She could only say that I ***should*** be able to get those speeds and if BT couldn't deliver the service, I could cancel.
That's not a great comfort, as I would have cancelled my existing contract with TT and have the hassle of get transferred back.
Based on my reading of the OFCOM FTTC speed comparison chart, at either of the distances that I mentioned, Infinity would be slower than ADSL!
Is there any way that I can get more assurance that I will see a speed increase before I change suppliers?
How can I accurately find out the cable distance between my house and street cabinet /exchange?
    Regards
    Dave

    Hi again,
If your current ISP offers FTTC check what speed you could get from them.  BT is likely to be very similar, as all ISP's share the same infrastructure.
A big part of the desire to change to BT is the included BT Sports package, if it were not for that, I would probably stick with my existing ISP. (Attracting other ISP customers is reason that BT offer free Sports I suppose.)I'm sure it probably is for new custoemrs but double check that is free.  I had it free last year.  Someone rang my wife and asked if I wanted it free agin for another year.  Quite reasonably she said "yes".  A few days later I was told it was going to cost me £3 per month.
I am in Aberdeenshire, but we are in one of the suburbs of Aberdeen, so, our address (Cults) is classed as Aberdeen City.  The exchange is NSBDS,
I asked about the county as I know a little about the BDUK schemes in England but I'm afraid I know nothing about Scotland - sorry

  • BT Infinity and VPN problems

    Hi
Can someone please help me. I am completely non-technical, so any responses need to be idiot proof or I won't understand.
I recently changed from Sky to BT Infinity because of slow Internet speed.
I often work from home. The computer is government property so VERY secure. I believe there is something called a VPN connection??
When I had Sky I had no connection problems. Since BT installed their system I cannot connect to the Internet (Wireless or via Ethernet cable). My personal devices all work OK, so BT say it is my work equipment that is at fault.
Our technical dept at work say that the laptop is fine, so they can do nothing, and it must be BT that has the problem.
I tested the connections in the office and my computer is fine. So my router is fine and my computer is fine, but they don't seem to 'see' each other.
Now the weird bit. When I search for networks in my area I can see mine as well as two others in the vicinity. Mine is password protected and I cannot connect to it. The two others are not password protected and I can connect through them. I do not want to piggyback onto my neighbour's broadband.
How do I get my computer to connect to my laptop?
    Thanks in advance.

If you change the wireless encryption on the home hub 3 to WPA only, that may help. Its possible that the laptop drivers are out of date, and cannot cope with WPA2 or mixed WPA2/WPA.

  • Slow Speeds since Install. Mods??

Any Mod brave enough to look into this one ????
It's gotten to the point of me not trusting a thing Support say and they don't seem to listen to a word I say.
I was told before signing up "Infinity will never slow down"
"The speed we estimate for your line is the speed you will get"
Since having Infinity Installed 04/04/2011, my speeds during the day are good at 35mb,
but slows down every night, sometimes as low as 4mb.
I reported this to BB support, explaining clearly that the connection is fine during the day,
but seems to be suffering from congestion slowdowns in the evenings.
I've been on the phone constantly since opening another fault report on 7th May.
The first few days consisted of BB Support calling me back in the mornings (when the speed is fine),
telling me they changed something and it should be ok now,
followed by me phoning at night when the speed dropped again.
This was escalated a couple of times to the "engineering dept.", still no change.
I soon realised that if I said my speed was fine at the time they asked, nothing was being done.
    11th May.
An engineer was booked for my home for the 12th 8am-1pm.
I tell them this was probably a waste of time as the problem only appears at night,
and the line is fine during the day.
    12th May.
Engineer calls about noon, very friendly,I explain the problem and we have a nice chat,
line check was good 40/10, no surprise there then.
BB Support phoned me as soon as the engineer had booked off the job,
basically telling me the fault had been fixed as an engineer had been out and found no fault.
I argued that they couldn't say that as the slowdowns only happen at night.
I point out to them I've been using speedtester.bt and ask them to look at the results, they totally ignored this.
Back on phone that night. The vicious circle starts again, another couple of days of callbacks telling me they changed something, and me calling them at night.
    15th May.
Escalated again,I'm told a higher level engineer would visit the exchange and then my home.
    16th May.
The same friendly openreach engineer turns up at 9am, I just smile and tell him he knows where it is.
No faults on the line and he explains he has nothing to do with the exchange.
Callback from BB Support around 3pm asking if my speed was fine now.
I had just finished another speedtest (7.3mb) so, no it wasn't.
Another engineer appointment made for 17th
    17th May.
No engineer. 2 callbacks, go over the same old story. Engineer booked for 18th.
18th May. No engineer. callback that night,by now I know the script by heart. Engineer booked for 19th.
19th May. No engineer. Another booking for 20th.
20th May Engineer calls, we have a chat, I explain the problem, engineer leaves.
By this time I feel sorry for these Openreach guys, sent out to jobs they can't possibly fix.
They could be out connecting other people to this superfast connection that I'm not getting.
Callback in the afternoon, was told the engineer had contacted BT Wholesale, but no further info was given. They asked how my speed was, I ask them to call tomorrow after I log the usual slowdowns with speedtester.

Thanks for your post,  but I've already been through all your points above.
I have taken continual speedtests since the install with speedtester.bt as well as others.
The really slow period is usually from around 8pm till 11pm.
The 3 results above are just from last night.

The problem is that nobody looks at the speedtester results.
If they did, they could see exactly when this was happening and maybe take the proper action,
and save me going over the same sad story when speaking to the Indian call centre.

I asked BB Support to have my line monitored as this was happening during peak times,
    they totally ignored this suggestion.

  • BT Infinity tomorrow!

The engineer is coming tomorrow and we have ordered the 80/20 but estimated 76/20 which is good.
Does having the Infinity extension kit slow down speeds? Would I be better off moving the master socket? (I hear Tea and Biscuits gets it moved for free)

'the engineer will move the master free anyway if you ask'
Not quite, the decision to move the master socket, convert a LJU into an NTE or provide a Cat5e Data Extension is at the discretion of the Engineer who bases his/her decision on ultimately what is easier and quickest.
Engineers are performance managed on how many jobs they do a day so one isn't going to spend 3/4 hours on site moving an NTE then having to run yet more cabling to hook up any existing extensions when they could just spend an hour running one Cat5e Data Extension Lead.

  • Sky Go Buffering fixed by reconnect

    Hi all,
I noticed tonight that when watching the Real ManU game I was getting quite frequent buffering issues. I then lost connection I checked in my Netgear router and confirmed that my connection was down. Once it came back I have not had one case of buffering in the second half. The only problems I have ever had with Infinity 2 is slow downloads on the 360 and the odd problem with games on the 360, the other would be buffering issues on Sky Go. I wondered would there be any difference if I upgraded to the totally unlimited package with zero traffic shaping. I sometimes wonder if this is the problem, I would assume that Sky Go doesn't use P2P but I struggle to find what the issue could be if not. I am watching on my PC via a wired connection.

Are you using the BT-supplied HH3 router?
