Infinity/Fibre on direct exchange lines

My local exchange is apparently due to recieve an infinity upgrade in 2014 thanks to a Welsh Government programme.
The only stumbling block I can see is that there are few, if any cabinets on the exchange (small, rural village). I doubt we'll be getting FTTP, but has BT/OR developed a method for using FTTC/VDSL on an exchange only line yet?

there have been reports on forum of cabinets being erected just outside the exchange but this is still in infancy

  • Direct exchange line?

    Hi,
I'm not a current BT customer, but my line is provided via BT (although  I do not pay you directly, I am a BE customer) and I would very much like to get Infinity when it becomes available.
I live near the Morpeth exchange (NEMP), in an area which I believe is likely to be activated in July.
Some cabinets have already appeared, so it looks like that will happen.
However, some of the checkers point out that around half the properties in my postcode are connected directly to the exchange - albeit an exchange which is about 4km away.
Recently there have been a couple of outages on myl ine - no dialtone - which have not affected the neighbours to whom I have spoken. These were resolved when water was drained from a bt point about half a mile away.
The fact that I had these problems but my neighbours did not, and of how they were resolved has led me to believe that my line may well be one of those that, for some reason, is directly connected to the exchange.
When I moved into my property it had two lines- the previous owner had run a home business - and I chose to keep one of them. However I believe that physically the two lines must still both exist,
    So my question(s) are:
    * How can I find out if I am connected directly to the exchange?
    * If I am, and given the distance involved, can I have my line changed to connect via a CAB?
    * Or, could I check if the other old line in my property goes to the cab and if so, switch to using that one?
    * Or could I order a new line for Infinity and specify that it need to go via the CAB?
    Many, many thanks.
    Pons

    Hi Pons_Alias,
I don;t know if this of help, but http://fttc-check.alc.im/ will advise what cabinets your phone lines are connected to (based on postcode) and may give abetter picture of the likelihood of you being direct-to-exchange.
I have just read the entire post with a sense of dread and disappointment, as I live in a block of (102) flats, and even though the cabinet is across the road (hell, I could throw some BT cable into it from my window *ponders*, mine is direct to exchange (makes sense, bundle 102 lines from flat block to exchange, rather than use up 102 ports in a cabinet), but annoyingly, there does seem to be no upgrade path (why can they not re-rtail the line into a cabinet?)

  • Exchange line skipped ADSL2+ to Fibre?

My exchange Newton ST Cyres was recently upgraded to Fibre but unfortunatly I'm on an exchange line so unable to recieve infinity. Before the upgrade the exchange was ADSLmax only not 2+ but now the exchange has been upgraded should I be able to recieve 2+ or has the exchange simply jumped that and gone straight to fibre leaving me on ADSLmax?
    Line checker currently states 8MB.

OK, found it after trying different spellings, you're in Devon.  So you have one of the highest BT & BDUK fundings.  Have you tried contacting your CC to see if they can help at all
On the 29th January 2013, Connecting Devon and Somerset agreed a deal with BT to deliver high-speed fibre broadband to around 90% of premises by the end of 2016 and to ensure a minimum of 2Mbps broadband speeds for all.
Average speeds are currently around 9Mbps in Devon and around 8Mbps in Somerset, while about 14% of premises across the two counties receive less than 2Mbps.
The total value of the contract is £94 million, with BT making a £41 million financial contribution. £10 million is being provided each from Devon and Somerset County Councils with £32 million Government funding from Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) and contributions from other public sector partners.

  • Fibre upgrade for Exchange only lines (EANAR)

Who can advise me if there are any plans to upgrade Exchange only lines in my local Norfolk exchange (EANAR) to FTTC as I currently cannot get fibre despite my Exchange having been upgraded in Dec 2014? BT Openreach were near useless in just confirming that my existing landline was exchange only followed by rubbing salt in to the wound by announcing how BT Openreach has managed to get fibre to everyone else in the area (i.e. without an exchange only line)! The local exchange was upgraded as part of BB for Norfolk project.
    Many Thanks.

  • Direct sales line items not appearing in VF04 even if MIRO document created

    Hi,
Some of the direct sales line item are mysteriously not appearing in VF04, even though the MIRO for the PO related to it is done. In some cases all the items of sales orders are not appearing in VF04 , in some cases it is happening randomly. Such items can be process manually through VF01 . Also if report SDVBUK00 is run , these line items are seen in VF04.

    Dear Uday Kumar Narayanappa ,
I think as a consultant you have the say in deciding how the things should be mapped in SAP than the USER.
I dont find any  reason other than having the same user id being shared between multiple users (and hence variant cannot be used).
    Anyways try this.
    Make a Z program copying VF04 .
Give the Tcode which is agreeable for the users.
In that Z program , write a code NOT TO CONSIDER documents of type ZNEW.
Now limit the authorisation of this new program only to those users who doesnt not want to deal with ZNEW.
    Hope it helps.

  • Banchory Exchange Infinity Fibre Multicast

I am aware that the Banchory exchange should have been enabled for Fibre Multicast broadcasting in Early March 2015, this appears not to have happened
Is anyone aware of the revised date (if any)
I am told I need this before I can watch BT Sport on BT My TV
    Len Shrort

Not my area of expertise.... There will be more informed forum users on the Broadband sub forums.
However if I look on samknows web site for your exchange it indicates that FTTC is available for some cabinets. This implies that it is available in some locations but only some locations served by the Banchory exchange depending upon which cabinet your line is attached to.

  • BT Infinity available at my exchange, still can't ...

OK I won't bore you all to much with the details of the quest to get an internet connection, but it basically goes like this. I moved address and when I tried to 'move' my BT Infinity service was told it was not available at my new address. I did a check on SamKnows and it said it was availabe. So I've decided to go with Virmin Media as that is the only other high speed provider in this country. After registering and setting up an account I was given various installation dates and the engineer never showed up on any of them, this went on for a whole 2 months until finally I get a call from their installations department telling me the cost is simply too much and demand to low to install services here and this area is now unable to get cable services at all!
A "slow-spot" is an area where you can only get a broadband service with a speed of below 2 Mbps (downstream)
With no other option I have had no other choice but to go and pick up ADSL broadband with an estimated speed of 1.6Mbit down. I figured I'd go for the buisiness package and if I move I can have buisiness Infinity. My post code is N7 8JE, this is in London Zone 2 on Holloway Road which is very central (I can walk to Kings Cross in 20 minuites!) and I cannot get respectable broadband which unfortunately I need for my job. I need an upload of at least 5Mbit and I now have to suffer with something in the region of 200kb. I have done a lot of research and tried all the not known about ISP's but in 90% of cases they use BT's Openreach network and can only offer the same or worse speeds. the other 10% were not available in my area (I've heard that one before)
I did have hope that the 4G network EE might offer a solution... that is until they announced their price plans and data limits... 5GB A MONTH!? for £35.... nope! (2005 called, they want their data plans back).
So as it stands BT come to install their Buisiness phone+ ADSL broadband. Some light on the situation is they said IF it ever becomes available in the area they can put me on the better package free. I was told by the guy I was ordering it from that after the order he'll so a check to see when my cabinate will get Infinity, unfortunately we both forgot and disconnected, and on calling BT back they just do the standard check. I was wondering if anyone can give me some hope and/or advice here on how to improve my situation.
I design game environments and virtual worlds, and I am often uploading and downloading large files along with the engine I use is supposed to require at minimum a 4Mbit connection both ways. I am as you can see a little stuck. Is there any hope?

    Hi Chaoss,
It looks like your on a EO (exchange Only Line).
Unless your exchange is FTTP/H ready then Unfortunatly EO lines are currently unable to have fibre broadband such as BT Infinity due to your line not connecting to a cabinet which would allow FTTC.
Please bear in mind that in some cases it may not be possible to provide FTTC broadband in areas due to:
    • Your phone line may be connected directly to the telephone exchange and not to a local street cabinet - (Exchange Only Line [EO] )
    • Your line may be too far from the local street cabinet to have a stable FTTC broadband service such as BT Infinity service.
    • Your local street cabinet may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • We haven't yet got the council's planning permission to do the necessary work at your local street cabinet.
    • Your home may not be suitable for fibre optic cables.
    • Your landlord may not have agreed to the fibre infrastructure being provided in your building (for example if you live in a flat).
There are different stages to the development of the fibre infrastructure in the UK.
If you have an EO Line then currently you will not be able to have FTTC broadband as your line isn't connected to a cabinet. In these instances Openreach plan to connect some areas that have EO lines with either FTTP or other fibre technologies in the future.

Also check the Openreach "Power of Fibre" website: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/the-big-build/the-power-of-fibre.aspx
You can keep checking the BT Wholesale Database and BT Infinity website for upto date information as these are updated regularly.
The openreach When and Where website is: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
The Fibre-Optic Broadband Rollout is being managed and done by Openreach for all communication providers/ISPs.
BT Retail (your communication provider/ISP) has nothing to do with the rollout of fibre broadband.
    Hope that helps.

  • Infinity available on my Exchange but not on my st...

Just wondering if someone can explain what's going on here.  I'm on the Haslington exchange, which has now been enabled.  There are 3 cabinets all within 800m of my house that have been upgraded, and have whirring equipment in them so they would all appear to be active.  I know which cabinet I am on as a recently retired Openreach engineer lives on the next street along, and has told me which one my line is connected to which is one that is ~650m from my house.  It's also the same one he is on and the tracker will allow him to order at 37 meg, he is a little closer to the cabinet than me.
I've been checking the BT Infinity checker for a while and it's always said 'Infinity is not due to be rolled out in your area' under my phone number.  A while back I was able to search by post code, and it said something like 'Good news, Infinity is coming to your area' but I can't seem to find that link anymore?
Now as I know the cabinet I was on was upgraded a few months ago I called BT last month who checked, and told me there was an error in the tracker and that I would definitely be able to order Infinity at my house and that the current enablement date was 31 March though this was subject to change.
I've just learned that some of my neighbours in surrounding streets have been able to order Infinity, and have estimated download speeds of 30-40 meg, so today I called BT and asked if I could order.
I was first of all told that Infinity is not available in my area and my exchange probably has not been enabled.  I questioned this as I know I am on the Haslington exchange, I was then told that I can't be on the Haslington exchange.  I then politely asked to speak to a supervisor.  I was then fogged off again with various excuses from me being directly connected to the exchange (which I am most definitely not) to I was on a different exchange.
I then recapped to this supervisor on what I already knew about my line, he then went away for a few minutes and came back and said that he could get me on a trial, which is part fibre but not at the full speed.  He couldn't really explain any more but said his info was showing that I would get download speeds of around 10-12 meg, and up of 4-5 meg.
I've actually gone for this option as I can upgrade to Infinity if and when and I am fed up of ADSL2....my line from the exchange is about 2.5k I believe.  But how come people the same distance from the cab as me can order Infinity at 30-40 meg, yet I can only get this 'trial' of 10-12 meg?  And exactly what is this trial called?  I have tried searching the net but unable to come up with any results???

I live 50m from the nearest cabnet, within a 600m circle there is 6 cabnets. Sad thing is i am not being enabled for infinity, everything around us is being upgraded except our road for some odd reason. I had a chat with an openreach eingineer working on one of the cabnets, he said they finished upgrading the designated cabnets. I asked about my road he had a quick look at my address and said there was no plan for that cabnet. Soo upset...
Just to show you guys how close, the cabnet will be staring me in the face
    -Red arrow is me
-Green box with black line is infinity cabnets
    -Green line infinity enabled roads
-Black box is the cabnet we are on
    -Red no infinity
Looks like my only hope is if for some reason BT decide to deploy FTTP which is highly unlikely. Dont blame BT's choice, upgrade the cabnets with most people. Our cabnet has fraction of the people compared to the other cabnet which has 3 estates connected to it.

  • BT infinity availability on LSWOR exchange help??....

Hi FTTC is available at my exchange and has been for a while. In worcester park, exchange LSWOR.
BT inifinity website states it's available from the 30th Sept 2011. Did a check on BT.com and it shows it's still not available....
Checked open reach website and it shows my exchange on the list that "now accepts" orders. LINK:
    http://www.openreach-communications.co.uk/superfast/where-and-when/default.htm
Called BT CS and they say just keep on checking.
Does anyone at BT have an idea whats going on?
All the pone lines and cabinets are new where I live as it's a very large new build plot.

    Hi.
Because your exchange is ready for FTTC and is accepting orders means nothing if your local green cabinet which suuplies your line has not been enabled for fibre.
Have you input your telephone number into the BT wholesale checker what does it say about FTTC .
If it says nothing, there is a good chance that it is not available to you.
Do you know where you green BT cabinet is, if so, is there a brand new shiny bigger cabinet in close proxinity to it, it will have air vents in it.
If not, you are unlikely to get Infinity in the near future.
If you do have, and its been there some 2 or 3 months, put your ear beside the vents and listen carefully for humming noise.
if you dont hear humming noise, then you still have some time to go.
If you hear humming noise, then run back to the house, get on the phone and order it.
So to sum up. The exchange being enabled means nothing.
Your local cabinet must be enabled and also up and running.

  • Fibre to Guildford exchange cabinet 101

    Hi,
I recently moved house and I am now on the Guildford exchange which has fibre and is accepting orders (Yay!) but I'm not able to get BT infinity as the cabinet I am connected to (101) does not have fibre yet. I found the below link which gives a 98% probability for my cabinet to get fibre but also states the update is not part of a phase.
    http://fttc-check.alc.im/results.php?postcode=GU11FY
Can anyone tell me when Guildford 101 cabinet is planned for a fibre upgrade? Any help on this would be appreciated as my 2Mb BT ADSL is just not cutting it.
    Thanks,

you previous could email nga openreach but they have now stopped replying to that type of email and refer you to your ISP
this is the standard reply now
Thank you for your contact to us. Please note that we will not be responding to you by email but, would like to point you to the Openreach Superfast Fibre website and the FAQ section that will provide answers to the most commonly asked
questions. It will also provide links to those service providers that sell fibre broadband at the moment so you can check if your particular line is enabled.
    http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
So in short, you just need to keep checking to see if your cabinet has been up graded.

  • BT fail to install Infinity due to the exchange no...

    Hello!
Well, yesterday my Infinity broadband was supposed to be installed; however there were complications. After the engineer returned from the street cabinet, he informed me that he could not get the cabinet to talk to the local exchange (Knowle). He said that the infinity line had not been activated, Infinity was ordered 2 weeks ago so they had plenty of time.
That was it really; they packed up and left because it was out of their hands. They were pretty friendly guys. I'm just confused as to what happens next? - I am kind of left in Limbo and the engineer said that it should be fixed soon!
I have called BT and they think the install was completed, but have said someone will get back to me by 9pm Monday.
I’v had a good look at this forum and see many people are having install issues with BT. You would have thought that they would get there act together and sort this if it was a common issue, but I suppose having a strange corporate structure with different companies providing different parts of the service your bound to run into difficulty.
I'm just unsure as to where everything goes now. I have put back in my old ADSL router, and I 'think' that my contract has already started (12 Months). I'm not too sure on the contract, when I rang BT the Scottish lady was not sure either.
Can anyone or one of the BT helpers on here explain where we go from here?
    Thanks!

UPDATE: Gave up waiting and rang BT at 8pm.
Spoke to a lady who said all the notes had disappeared off the system or had not been put on?????
She rang the engineers as she called it, which I’m guessing is BT wholesale. This took an age 30mins on hold.
To be told they will get back to me tomorrow with what’s going on by 9pm again.
I'm somewhat disappointed and pee'd off right now.
I doubt very much they will ring me back so looks like I will ring them again tomorrow at 8pm.
I will give them untill tomorrow to sort it out and then PM the mods on here.

  • Gmail Exchange - line break issues

When using Exchange for push Gmail on my iPhone 4, I've noticed that any emails I sent have odd line breaks inserted into them. As I'm using the iPhone for work, any emails I send are rendered almost unintelligible. This is particularly bad as I am a professional writer. When using POP to access Gmail the text appears absolutely fine.
How can I ensure that my emails stay in their original format and don't have line breaks inserted where I don't want them? If this is possible with POP, surely it should be possible with Exchange. Any ideas?

The problem arises because the iPhone uses "Plain Text" to send emails.
When using gmail, gmail automatically inserts breaks in "Plain Text" emails every 78 characters, the reason why you see the breaks when unexpected.
    See: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=4d1cecc1aab102ef&hl=en
    To fix this problem:
    1. Apple can allow us to send mail with Rich Text support from iOS devices OR
    2. Google has to change the line breaks setting so that Plain text flows (and isn't broken) <-- this option is probably more realistic
I have tried from a hotmail account, sending email as plain text doesn't have line breaks imposed like the gmail account, but rather "flows".

  • BT infinity is in my exchange?

As it says in the title it is in my exchange but it still says i can't buy bt infinity
    Dylan Thomas

The exchange gets updated then the cabinets at a later date over a period of time - think 'ball of string' unfortunately!
Try this link for some info https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html   but be aware that if it says a date for FTTC this can slip by a lot

  • BT infinity coming to my exchange - when can I ord...

    Hi
I've just found out that BT is coming to my area, Bishop Auckland, in spring 2012
    http://www.btplc.com/News/Articles/Showarticle.cfm?ArticleID=CC61E075-0B82-4979-9B86-62C60BC76B90
I was wondering when I'd be able to place an order and also will the whole of Bishop Auckland be covered? I live in Bishop Auckland but on the very edge (only get 1 - 2 meg adsl). Theres a BT cabinet just near the end of my road.
    Thanks

I think you need to wait until you can do a test on BT site which tells you that infinity will shortly be available at your exchange.  Of course that does not mean that your specific cabinet will  get a new big brother infinity cabinet standing next to it. Afraid it's a wait and see.
Your link was interesting as my exchange is listed like yours so I am in the same boat as you

  • Switching to BT Infinity (fibre) broadband

    Hi
I've just applied for a BT phone + 20GB BT Infinity 1 account and am wondering if I need to contact my current provider (Utility Warehouse) to get a MAC code?
I thought I'd seen somewhere in the online application process that I woouldn't need one (perhaps because I'm switching fron ADSL to DSL) but now I'm not so sure. There is nothing on any of the emails I have received so far but I have only just applied (90 mins ago)so perhaps BT haven't got around yet to issuing full instructions.
BT seem to imply that they will handle all of the telephone switching process but does the same apply to Broadband?
As I am switching from bog-standard broadband to fibre, will I have to tell UW so that they will swich my service off on changeover day?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

getting the MAC doesn't cost anything and will be available should BT ask for it  I know when my daughter moved from another ISP adsl to BT fibre she was asked for MAC code
