Infinity was installed an hour or so ago. I've gone to do a check on speedtester.net and thinkbroadband.com
Both are showing my speed as 2mb - I'm connected via a gigabit LAN.
Perhaps some odd throttling going on - I've not downloaded anything yet !

The update installed 3 HOURS ago crashed my computer-I AM ON 3.6 AND CANNOT GO TO 8.01
While I was on the internet, a box opened saying firefox needed to install some updates - I said OK - even though I rarely have luck with ANY updates, and this has proved to be no exception. After the update completed, everything froze or stopped responding. I tried to "end task" in task manager and even task manager stopped responding. I did a system restore to yesterday (before the update) but Firefox would not run - I have uninstalled, re-installed, system restore AGAIN, restarted my computer (not necessarily in the order listed - I've been dealing with this since 11:33 this morning - it is now 2:41 in the afternoon) and still firefox will not run. I even went to the "firefox.exe" and clicked it and it will not run. In one of these pages, it would not let me send feedback unless I upgraded. I have not closed the browser since the last install, in which I re-installed 3.6, which is the only reason I am still on the internet using firefox; however, internet explorer is still open, too. Earlier, when I would "send error report" a window would open with "more information". The first time (earlier this morning) I clicked "more information", it took me to your website and I downloaded the "upgrade", AGAIN. Now when I click "more information" it says "cannot find" and then some long file name. There are reasons I do not do upgrades and this is just proving me right. l don't know if I will be able to re-open my web browser using firefox after I close this session, but PLEASE fix your update so I, or anyone else, don't have to go through this again! I cannot provide crash id's as there are too many and I have work to do. Hope you can fix this and thanks for listening.

New Infinity Install - 3 days in... 2Mb Internet?
We had BT Infinity installed 3 days ago. Line speed hasn't changed from when I did the speed test with the engineer still present. Was told that it would "Get better" over the next 24 hours, but that didn't happen. Estimates from the BT site were 45mb down, 8mb up (Approx 700m from cabinet). We are getting 2.5 down, and 4mb up.
After phonining customer support, I was told this is OK and that it will get better as it stabalises over the next 10 days. My feeling is that this is just broken, and I'm going to end up wasting 10 days with broken internet. Does anyone have experience of this? Is it magically going to get better? It seems strange to me that our up is twice as high as the down, but customer services seems very reluctant to actually do anything during this period.
Multiple speed test sites all give roughly the same result.
Do I keep complaining? Or will this magically fix itself?

Go to Solution.In a strange turn of events, after calling customer services to say it was broken, and them saying I needed to wait 10 days ... 30 mins later an Openreach engineer turned up at the house (yeah, 30 mins ... on a Saturday!), saying there was a fault and that he had been sent to fix it.
Internet is now operating at the expect speed. Pretty impressed. -
Since Infinity installed wireless adaptor settings...
Had Infinity installed 2 days ago (hub 3) and everything worked fine until I tried to logon the next day. It seems my setting are not being saved, i was guided through the complicated process of finding and reconnecting with the hub by BT helpdesk people but as soon as the computer is closed down the problem reappears. Can anyone help, in simple language please as I'm not very computer literate.

I have IMac on Yosemeite, 500GB. IPhone 5 on 8.2. My photos, from iPhone, had not appeared via photo stream on my Mac. I had been away from a while But expected the photos to appear on the Mac. There were 1000 in Photostream and 1200 in Camera Roll. I used a cable to import the Camera Roll, it stopped importing after 1000 photos. The photos, though, are in iCloud and I don't know how to access them to put them to Events. There are 3 recent Photostream events showing up in IPhoto withOut any photos. I tried to import to Library but was directed to Finder and no access to iPhoto. I tried to shut down iPhoto but got a message telling me photos were being imported. That's 6 hours ago and I'm still getting the same message. I don't know what to do. I'm not an expert, just a user.
HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated. -
Most of the songs on my iPod Classic no longer show up on iTunes on my laptop. I deleted iTunes & installed the latest version but this did not change anything. For example on 1 playlist I have 66 songs but only 1 shows on the iTunes screen. Thanks you for any help.

I'm downloading a movie to each of my kids new ipads. it says that it's downloading, but the completion % has shown the same % since it began 2 hours ago. is this normal? one shows 94%, the other 24%. how do I know if it's progressing?
You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard. Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3. During installation, it locked up. Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound. What do I do now? Help!
Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
Then download this:

This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.

Have just installed Mavericks and restarted the MacBook Pro. That was 3 hours ago and after logging in, I got my wallpaper and dock, but none of my desktop icons, just the spinning coloured wheel. It's been like that for 2 hours. Is this normal? What should I do, please?
I tried holding the on/off switch down to make it shut down, but when I turned it back on again, the same thing happened and none of the keys etc makes any difference.
HELP!!!! Please.No, what you're experiencing is not normal.
Try booting whilst holding down the Shift key - this will allow you to boot into Safe Mode, disabling third-party kernel extensions, etc. Your Mac will be slow to boot and will operate sluggishly. That's normal. If you can get in using Safe Mode then you have some start-up item that doesn't play well with Mavericks.

My iPhone 4s is stuck after attempting to download the latest update several hours ago. The screen shows picture to connect charger cord to iTunes however, when i do, iTunes is not detecting the phone when I plug it into my lap top. that has never been a problem before now. please help? Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. This requires action before the device is lost/stolen. If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries. -
Firefox worked merely hours ago on my computer, had to delete as I explained above because of a dodgy toolbar from some website, deleted firefox, tried re-installing and won't work. Tried links on other help pages to download older firefox version and comes up with page "Whoops are you lost firefox page" and redirects to where I was. Very frustrating. I just want my firefox the way it was ?!
Firefox 17.0 and above requires Mac 10.6 or higher. The last version made for Mac 10.5.8 is Firefox 16.0.1.

My iMac seems to have frozen during the update- how long should I expect the update to take? The 'installing software update' bar is still showing itself working but has been stuck in the same position for over an hour. Any thoughts?
Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery. -

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
