Infinity nightmares once more

And so i find myself looking for help once more on these forums.
Ever regret taking up the offer of an apparently better infinity experience by getting in touch with kelly communications for the modem refresh?
Since then i have seen my infinity speed drop from 22 meg ( it was 15meg not the 35 implied pre install on day 1 and after 4 -5 callouts i gave up and accepted 22 meg).  Have to say Chris the Mod from here really went out of his way to help me.
Since Kelly communication came and changed modem my speed has dropped and where previously speedtest.net showed constantly the same results it is so sporadic now - one minute its 9 meg then its 18 meg then 14 meg or 16 meg - you get the picture!!!
I wonder was it due to the modem being off while it was being switched has caused the system to think there was a line speed and mess things up?
So being an idiot i thought oh lets upgrade to infinity 2 the idea of surely a better speed was worth restarting my contract? Sadly today was my live day and it has proved to not be the case.  Im getting even slower speeds than before ranging from 9-14meg!  Btlinetest says 13 meg - funnily enough just slightly above the 12.8 they consider to be an issue ???  Did it not used to be 15meg?
Yes i appreciate it is a 10 day window for learning but something is wrong when you end up with a slower speed and a ping in the 40-50s.
I have tried resetting the hub, made no difference.  Im scared to touch the modem in case rebooting it makes things worse - ie system thnks there is a line fault.
Any ideas?

Hi
You could try turning the vdsl modem off and on once to see if it helps ( the only way you could trip the dlm is if you sit there and reset the modem a lot off times).
There could be a fault on your line resulting in low speeds, to be fair I would consider 13 meg down to be a bit off an issue.
I guess you have a choice you could reset the vdsl modem once and leave it on for up to  3 weeks to see if your speed recovers ( assuming the dlm has reduced your speed due to a possible fault).
Or you could get back in contact with the forum team and discuss your current issues with them to see if they can help you.
Hope it gets better for you soon

  • Why does FF4 start to download an image once more which is already on screen when trying to save this image?

I look at a picture from a photo-site - size 11 MB. I decide to save this picture > right click > save image as.. The download window opens and FF downloads the picture once more which is already somewhere in FF's cache or memory.. I can see that data comes from the internet and not from a local place on my computer and the process can be rather slow, when the remote server is slow.. I find this as a waste of bandwidth.. Is it possible to avoid this behaviour?

Without access, you're gonna have to wait until you reach the 5 authorized computer limit, then you can de-authorize all.

  • Just restored to 3. Because once more I lost all my ReminderFox data during the upgrade. Not listed under tools . note to say not compatible with version 9. When will it be OK to upgrade to version 9 AND keep reminderfox intact?

Firstly, what do I have to do so that, when I upgrade FireFox, there is a restore point set? Do this manually? If so, alter your install procedure - a message to say - set a restore point now, because it won't be set automatically.
once more, after upgrading, my ReminderFox is gone. How can you do this? Offer something so good that becomes so important and then we lose it when we upgrade. I have installed 3.6 and my reminders are back! PLEASE let us know when you are releasing an upgrade that is compatible with ReminderFox

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). • BT infinity nightmare

    Hi,
Had other issues when I tried to change address for an order but this is not the issue here.
First appointment last Wednesday, my wife took the day off for engineer to come and find that line was not active. Line went active on Wednesday evening.
Plenty of telephones and engineer revisited today with wife taking second day off. After half hour he connected it. Worked a couple of hours and disconnected.
I track my order to see that it ll be completed on 15th. Meanwhile no call or update from them.
Is this a joke? Two days waiting and have to wait more? Call centre from another world to tell me to wait till Monday?
Nightmare at all, two days off from work for nothing.

    Hi Giorgosa,
Welcome to the community forum. I can take a look at your order. Please send me in your details using the "Contact The Mods" link found in my profile.

A college at work is trapped with quite the same problem.
Today, he upgraded the system, using mga driver (matrox 450 dual head). XOrg starts fine, but the screen is totally messed up (lines across the screen, in different kind of colors, some lines remain black also).
I'll go on trying to downgrade the mga package, hope it won't break xorg completely. Now i just need to find a repo with the old driver still available .

  • Adobe ends your audio nightmares once and for all!

Are you plagued occasionally, like me, with less than perfect audio?
    Fret no more.
Adobe has the solution and you don't have to pay a fortune, as the technology is available in their budget Premiere Elements.
Take a look at this in-depth tutorial (between 15 to 40 seconds in) and hear how your audio problems can be consigned to the dustbin of history.
No need any more to worry about the quality of the audio as you shoot, for it can all be rectified with a click of a button in post.
    Come on Apple!
Neither Legacy FCP or FCP X has such technology.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/premiere-elements-9-how-tos/jazz-up-the-action/?tracki ngid=JCVMB

I don't know about overwhelming, but the DVD specification (which was not developed by Apple) calls for the audio to be sampled at 16-bit/48KHz (I think you might also be able to use 96KHz as well). This is what the software expects. If you choose to use another sample rate then the software may or may not be able to "fix" it in post. The real problem is that many camcorder manufactures set the audio to 12-bit by default.

  • Airport Issue, once more

Hello, ive been trying to fix this a long time but i never made it. I seriously need some help and im sry if my post is same with many other's posts, but seems that Apple didnt even try to fix it so i guess im just desparate for some help.
Ok so, browsing the internet through a wired ethernet connection causes no problems. Using Airport though..... gets the connection to drop from time to time, and i wouldnt be bothered if this didnt happen SO MANY TIMES. Any other computer connected to the same wireless network has no problems at all.
I found few tweaks after googling, but lets face it, im not a mac professional as i dont own my Mac Pro for so long, so i dont feel like tweaking than just getting an effective, official fix from apple. "Interference Robustness" doesnt works as i found out it only works with apple's products and not any other routers (which yet again, apple didnt bother to mention, searching this site and i only found a single line mentioning about Interference Robustness).
So yes, i do have a cordless phone, i do have few bluetooth devices... Arent those what people use nowdays? And no thats not the case coz like i said, any other computers work just fine. And i used to believe that my airport card was defective, but seems that many others got the same issue as me, still no honest answer from apple.
Im running OSX Tiger (10.4.11) and im using the Airport wireless card provided by apple with the mac pro. I need some help, and sry if i sound a bit of angry, but FOR GOD SHAKE, APPLE STOP IGNORING US! Ive paid much for my mac pro, and it cant even connect to the internet through wifi. I think apple MUST fix this or give us our money back...

We are just users. If you want to send feedback, there are feedback pages.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
And there are some troubleshooting tips out there - from Apple and others, found a couple using Google:
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=utf8&oe=utf8&q=AppleAirport+WirelessTrouble
A search through the forum turns up some, but I don't use wireless or Airport myself. I do know modems and routers that worked on XP sometimes needed firmware updates to work with Vista, or just didn't work.
Routers and modems that worked on older Mac hardware also needed to be updated and in some cases new models, so first thing would be to look for airport firmware and other drivers or utility updates.
Maybe there is a shielding problem, I do know proximity to base station for phones and such can cause problems.

I had used ArchLinux quite a few releases ago (0.2-0.5 were the versions I used). Back then, I suffered some losses and had some system issues. I believe I have addressed a few of those issues right now.
Back then, I had dialup; today, I have DSL, but only via a Buffalo Technologies wireless NIC that uses a Broadcom 43XX chip (e.g., I'd use fwcutter to get it running). That might be fairly easy, but I also never had ethernet and past experience has shown me I'm pretty easily lost by all the eth0/ifconfig stuff. So, Arch will hopefully have matured enough that I'm not going to feel as lost as I have felt in the past, because I still am not all that bright when it comes to figuring out how to configure stuff and where to get information.
Back then, I only had internal hard disks; today I have an external USB 2.0 hard disk with 2 partitions to same my data from unintended reformats.
I fear that I will get stranded at the commandline with no X server. Does Arch allow documentation to be installed in the target system, so that I can fix myself back up to having internet access? Yes, provided I take decent notes about my ethernet/wireless NIC.
Also, is an ATI chipset motherboard supported ... well, supported in a way that this simpleton can get it running at full speed, no errors? I had nasty experiences with ATAPI resets on several VIA chipset motherboards, so I fear the ATI chipset might be even more rough around the edge.
I have a Celeron D 3.33 GHz system, 64 bit uniprocessor. I can go with either 32 bit or 64 bit distro, but I think I want Flash for the simple reason that many tutorials are now Flash based. Flash seems to be difficult for Mandriva 64. Is Flash working under Arch 64bit? Or only for 32bit?
I want the stablest distro I can get my hands on. One issue I'm not fond of: when an automatic update kills ethernet, internet or X and also leaves behind no updated documentation that discusses the NEW versions FULL configuration needs. I'm also a man that has a hard time doing a cranial 'diff'. I'd need full documents installed at the same time that any new code arrives.
So, I'm faced with these questions, open for comment:
    32 or 64 bit?
Does Arch support the ATI chipsets including the onboard Radeon Xpress 200 graphics?
    Stable without rolling updates?
    Does Arch offer local docs?
When something gets updated, does Arch also update docs in the same release?
    Thanks!

My issues of being unable to administer a system have been caused by the LACK of accurate and thorough documentation on the target system. I'd search the man pages and find nothing or I'd read a document anywhere only to find it is not for the current version I'm using, or similar relevancy issues. Reading the wrong document should not be counted as 'having an answer'.
If you can boot to console and get internet connection working, you can use text web browser (links) and read wikis. Or print them beforehand. It's not that much work to get X and firefox running (with google ).
That is a mighty big if, dante4d. I can take notes about using the version(s) of binaries that I use; problems arise when large changes take place after an 'update' and then the wiki on the internet is not available (and even if it was available, experience tells me that web instructions such as wiki get updated months after the binary gets updated). While I'm not asking for a perfect world, I'm thinking that local documentation was the original intention of the man pages AND the info system; I feel that wiki is not the optimal choice if it is online only. The older ideas would work for me, if coders would only take the time to wait for documentation before they release newer, revamped binaries.
    Google
Google contains millions of 'answers', the user has to determine which is the correct answer - Google is not asking for your kernel version, distro name, release date, etc. The biggest problem with Google is I can still find, at the top of search results, web documents discussing instructions that were only current at kernel 2.2.x. I tried Google many times, my system got botched many times. Google cannot be considered an effective answer: obfuscation.
Your names are all new to me; the arguments for and against internet documentation remain the same and remain tenuous. I know some folks can get by with it; but I want a dependable distro that does not fry itself with each update. I have Mandriva 64 for that!
Thanks again, folks; Arch is still not going to be installed.

  • KT880 Delta, once more...

    Here is the stuff :
    - sound problems (with integrated sound chipset): often, there are sound problems for exemple in games (i.e. farcry). At the beginning the sound quality is poor and quickly the sound cuts off. When I go back to windows there is no sound neither. Nevertheless there isn't any hardware conflicts and drivers are up to date.
I dont think there are shorten circuits with the tower as these problems do not occure every time (and sometimes vanish without rebooting windows...)
    - video problems (maybe what is called "drawing problems" here) : no problems in games but under Windows XP or on the web windows are refreshing "slowly" that's to say I can distinguish the refresh for a second. For instance on the web the content of a website is displayed from the top to the bottom for more or less 1 second (I mean it is not immediate). That's also true when I maximise or reduce a windows under XP.
    The "beast"
    Athlon XP 1800+
    Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64Mo agp 4X
512 Mo Corsair DDR 3200 (at 133mhz for the moment...)
    Power Supply : NoiseBlocker 300W
all drivers and bios up to date
The power supply manufacturer is quite famous so I think voltages and amp are ok. Anyway if someone tells me he is 99% sure my problems come from the pow supply, I will consider to buy a new one.

58C is still high if idle. It's on the high side also if under normal running.
If you got some extra resources you could consider a new cooler, or wait it out till you get a new processor. If you care and dare a reseating of the proc. might also do the trick: Carefully remove a l l  old grease, and apply only a small drop of new on the very die/center square of the processor.
Internet occupies more proc. power than one could imaging. Perhaps these certaing site are poorly coded or have special effects. Another reason might be that anti virus, the fire wall or a spyware program reacts to something.
Running at 800x600 is far less burdoning for the system than 1280x1024. Could try lessening the colours displayed.

  • Once more on right-aligning footnote numbers with GREP

For some jobs I want the footnote numbers in the notes to align on the period that I have IDCS4's Footnote Options add (along with an en-space) as the Separator between the note number and the text of the note.  No big deal if I define the footnote paragraph style with an "Align to Decimal" tab and then insert that tab at the start of the note.  I recently bumped into this thread from 2009 where RodneyA described this in more detail, and Eugene Tyson added a GREP search to automate adding the tab: replace (~F) with \t$1.
I cannot get this to work in IDCS4.  Did it work in earlier versions?  Earlier this year Jongware explained that GREP cannot replace a footnote marker, only look ahead or behind the marker to replace whatever.  Unfortunately, in my footnotes there's nothing ahead of the footnote marker for GREP to replace until I manually put my tab there.  Adding those tabs to hundreds of notes by hand isn't so bad (jumping with Ctrl + arrow keys), and ID's propensity for occasionally eating a note means I need to check them all anyway.  But am I wrong in thinking that if I want to automate adding the tabs I'll need to do so via JSX?
    Thanks,
    David

David, when stating you cannot get something to work it's important you also tell why
But when I tried your "replace (~F) with \t$1" for myself it became real obvious straight away: the code ~F does not only indicate "the footnote reference number" but also the footnote itself in the text. So, while it works in the sense that you get a tab before the footnote number code, you get loads of extra tabs in your text as a bonus.
There are several ways to circumvent this. The most obvious is to limit the replace operation to just the paragraphs styled with your footnote style. If that's a unique one (mine usually is), it'll work straight away. That's Eugene's first answer in the previous thread -- possiblly you forgot to set this Paragraph style in the Find Format field.
Another way is to only add a tab when the footnote number code is at the start of a line:
    ^~F
    replace with
    \t$0
(You are correct in noticing the "lookbehind" trick cannot be reversed to a lookahead for just 'start of line followed by the footnote number code'. It's a Limitation of InDesign's particular flavor of GREP.)
This one may fail if you ever have a footnote at the start of a paragraph
Yet another way is to try to make use of the vertical position of the footnote number code. If your references are in superscript (which is fairly regular) and the numbers in the notes themselves are not (which they may or may not be), you can look for
    ~F (+ position: normal)
and replace with itself plus a tab before, as above. (A variant could be to use a character style for the superscripted references and look for [None] character style to pick up the ones inside the footnotes.)

  • Once more: hdv -- scene detection

    Hello,
what is the reason that premiere cs4 is not be able to detect scenes in HDV material?
Why "we" have to use HDVSplit?
    Carlos

Ask Adobe. They are always last to introduce such basic functionality that is readily available in freeware/shareware for ages. Look at DV. Scenalyzer offered scene detection for more than two years before Adobe finally caught up and still does not compare favourably to Scenalyzer that offers a lot more. Adobe probably needs to progress to CS7, meanwhile stealing our $$ for each and every upgrade and still not delivering on time.
IMO there is nothing wrong with HDVSplit. It works reliably and does what we expect it to do. If you don't like this answer, contact Adobe, maybe they can get their stuff together before 2015. (ETA CS5: 2011, CS6: 2013, CS7:2015)

    Hi,
    This
    Auth:DbSendError
Is a Database error with the AIM servers.
It is worth while restarting iChat if you get it.
If it persists for more than a few minutes it is likely that AIM are updating their servers.
A few hours may sort it, alothough there have been occaassions where @mac names have been unable to log on for a week.

  • Once more unto the breech...

I ordered a MBP after my iBook HD crashed. I decided to use this as a chance to upgrade. BIG MISTAKE! My iBook was flawless for two years and I used it for about four to six hours a day everyday! The MBP lasted two days. The irony was I wanted a pro level portable hoping it would last longer. The whine came on strong right away. I called Apple, not to request a refund but to verify they where aware of this issue. I was told that they were VERY aware and that they were working on it. This brought hope... Then the heat came. I understand it is not a laptop... it is a notebook, and I have never used any of my portables on my lap or other soft surface simply because even if the heat is tolerable for me, not allowing it to escape may not be as far as the hardware is concerned. The MBP ran so hot I could feel the heat off of it whilst it sat on my desk on an iCurve stand. Even this I was able to justify. Then it stopped running off of the power adaptor. It is now on its way back to Apple and my money is on its way back into my bank account, even though it was a "built to order" system. I must say most of the people I spoke with at Apple were patient and provided excellent service, save one gentleman that suggested I sell the broken laptop outright to recoup my loss! I believe I will pop a new HD in my iBook and use it for another year or so... let them work out the bugs. This is not the best time to purchase a new Apple, at least as far as the portables are concerned. Intel is still a beta and PPC is yesterday's news. Sorry for the dramatic post... just needed to vent and say to all those MBP users out there... I'll catch you later.

Apwill, that's the way I would have proceeded. A fast decision. Not like some folks that are on their fourth, fifth, and even more exchanges and keep on complaining, or are trying to burn themselves to draw attention, or blaming chronic headaches on Apple...gheez..
I have a good sample. temperature is normal on my machine. It whines on battery but I use a BT mouse so I don't hear it; and even when I'm on trackpad and the book is buzzing it doesn't bother me.
If my MBP would be crashing or acting unreliable, I would have turned it in for good. I'm no fanatic. I just find it an amazing piece of technology.
I weigh the pros and the cons on my computer, and I consider it a great machine. It does all what I expect it to do and just idling in most cases.
If Apple comes with improvements or fixes I'll be there asking for them, but not desesperado... just cool. I have a one year warranty.
If you can afford waiting than do it. Good computers won't run out.
    Best Regards,
    Pablo
