Infinity Option 2

Infinity Option 2 has become a huge joke. It drops off and on every five minutes and even when it is stable, it is very slow on speed. Never expect the speed as advertised as i have never done above 15 mb every time i do a spped check. my onlive experience has become very miserable and i pay average of £170 every quarter.
My question is, why do i need to pay for a horrible service? we pay in advance hoping to get value for money but all we get is a big and frustrating disappointment.

Have you contacted BT at all about the problem? Why did you go for infinity 2 if you max out at 15Mb?
Are you connecting to the Internet wireless or hard wired?
Try connecting direct via the mastersocket.

    Hi Ben.
The threshold figure is 300GB per month.
Click https://www.bt.com/appsyouraccount/secure/cyahub.do and enter your bt.com associated login ID and password (if it doesn't already let you in). The ID needs to be associated with your BB phone number.
Go down to Manage your services, click the Broadband tab, and then choose View your broadband usage.

  • BT Infinity Option 4 FTTP/FTTH - Where is the spee...

Recently I had FTTP/FTTH installed at my house and I have BT Infinity Option 4 300mbps. So far the connection hasn't even gone over 90mbps (normally runs between 50mbps and 80mbps) and I have now already paid my first bill and not even got half of the god **bleep** speed that I am paying for.
When will the speed be sorted? There is no point in me paying that money for Infinity Option 4 when I could just pay much less for the other packages and get the same speed I am getting now!
Installation was finished and activated on 16/06/2014.

  • Infinity Option 2 Real Speeds vs Estimates

I wanted to know what real life speeds people who had Infinity Option 2 installed in 2012 are actually getting.
When I do a speed check, I can get 24.9 download and 5 upload. I get it installed next week and wondered if I would actually get faster.
I ask coz my adsl the speed check states supports upto 14mb, but I actually get 19mb.
    Thanks

I can almost guarantee you won't get worse.
The speeds on Infinity are excellent. The estimations are the connection speeds, real work throughput speeds will always be a bit less than that.

  • 3 questions about 'BT Infinity' Option 2

    So here they are.
    1) Is the 100gb limit for BT broadband option 3 customers, definately the same usage limit for BT Infinity option 2 customers?
    2) When the cap is reached, is the cap in place 24 hours a day for approximately 30 days, or is the cap in place only between peak hours (5pm - 12pm), i.e. do speeds return to normal at off peak hours even though you hit the 100gb cap?
    3) Assuming the cap is only in place during peak hours, if you use the line heavilly during off peak hours, will you then be capped at 1meg constantly for those 30 days?

thanks, hopefully some other users here can fill in the blanks.
I'm in a situation where i stand to strip the 100gb cap with upload alone.
It's pretty much the main reason i'm even considering switching from Be* Pro, whome i currently get 14meg down, 1.8meg up with, i design websites and such, a lot of this involves uploading/downloading large databases and entire site structures which is why the higher upload speed appeals to me, but at the same time i do not wish to switch if i'll only get about a weeks normal usage before only being able to use it normally at off peak hours.
Since a lot of the design work i do is for american and chinese clients it doesn't really matter if the net is slow at 5pm-midnight, since during this time i do little to no work via the net and it's used purely for browsing/email, during the night and mornings however my usage can soar considerably.
My currently FTP tools indicate that in site work alone this month i have uploaded 194gb and downloaded 87, in just 14 days.

  • Does Infinity Option 2 display monthly usage?

I know you can monitor monthly usage via your BT account on Infinity Option 1. Is it also displayed if you are on Option 2 even though, being unlimited, it's for information only?

  • Infinity option 2 issues?

Had BT Infinity for about 3/4 weeks now. To start with service was great, now I seem to be having issues. Before with Sky i was getting around 45/10 when we switched due to issues with them we were receving 39/5.
This has now dropped to 31/5, when i stream content on the YouView box every video buffers even on standard def settings.
I have the Home Hub upstairs and using TP Link 500Mbps powerline adapters going down stairs to the YouView box. iPhone, 2x Android Phones, PS3 and two laptops connected aswell as my wired pc.
The OpenReach box has never been switched off and I keep getting disconnected until the HomeHub runs the troubleshooting page to get ba back online. Any ideas?
    Was estimated at 57/13

Be very careful before going to bt infinity 2, ib just went with them & i'm gutted, pay £10 more per month & get the same as i did with talk talk.
9.78 download & 5.80 upload, that's below national average! the day they fit it, it was at 38.95, two days after it dropped like a stone, had it a month now & to be honest, it's **bleep**.
1.30am & just did a speed test on BT's site, results download 25.43, upload 5.95. check it on speedtest.net & it's D 9.78, U 5.80, I called them to ask why & she said ''sorry, but it's only an estimate & you signed the papers''
Also have internet tv & that keeps freezing because internet too slow,
ok i'm wireless with my pc, tv & playstation are plugged in direct, but if someone is watching tv & i'm using the laptop, tv just freezes & is unwatchable,
I'm not a tech head, but i had new socket fitted & engineer told me i should get close to 40, but in all honesty i' getting less than a quarter of that.
wish i'd stayed with talk talk, big mistake moving!!

  • FUP change question - overlimit on Infinity Option...

I heard from @BT_infinity on twitter that the FUP on Option 2 is now
     - a 300Gb fair use limit
     - 30 day restriction if hit
     - restriction during peak hours
     - THE NEW BIT --- restricted speed is 4 Mbps *not* 1 Mbs
Can anyone confirm this change. If so I'm getting more tempted since my current speed is only 4 Mbps (and hitting the limit isn't that likely)

@planetf1 Hey, i can confirm it will be 4mb, double checked it. If its not on the FUP yet it will be as updates are being made )

welcome to the world of last wednesday week.
there's now't wrong with 2 cans and a piece of string. at certain times, it is often faster.

  • BT Infinity Option 4 only 20Mb upload speed?

You would thing with FTTH that the upload would be a minimum of 30Mb, anyway I know there is a roll out plan for FTTC but is there one for FTTH so I can see what areas are going to be enabled with FTTH?
    Thanks

There is no road map as such. You are being confused between FTTP which is available in selected areas and at present will not be rolled out further.
Then there is FTTPoD which Openreach have made available in all FTTC enabled areas but ISP's have yet to take up.
The ISP's are most likely holding off on the offchance Openreach bring the price down, at present it looks like the minimum cost would be £1500 if close to the fibre node then £500 per 100mts. It's a lot for ISP's to swallow even with a 2 yr contract without passing any costs onto the customer.

  • Infinity Option One 'My Services' glitch, Just me?

When I log in to My BT -  My Services - Broadband, it shows the allowance as 10GB usage, although the View Your Usage page shows the proper 40GB allowance graph.  Anyone else have this?

    Mine shows correctly....

  • Re: Infinity Option 2

I am suddenly getting 9- 13meg download speed when i was getting 30 - 32meg download . Nothing has changed in my enviroment so i guess it has to be exteral issue???

    Hi,
I have for the last couple of weeks suddenly seen my download speed drop from 33Mb to 23Mb and  considerably less to 10Mb  , I am using the same kit and nothing has changed . Hub has been reset , but with no difference and running the BT speedtest show exchange to house speed of 39Mb . Upload has also dropped a couple of meg . Even though the speedtest states i am getting 33 Mb , http://www.speedtest.net/ which i have used fo rmany years states 33Mb .I can see speed has dropped and this is why i am questioning the issue Thanks

  • Upgrade from Total Broadband Option 2 to Infinity ...

    Is this possible?
I tried the order thing it was only showing option 2 of infinity.

Yes I also wanted Option 1 and had to ordered it via phone.
If Your a new customer make sure any deals are still applicable with phone orders and are not just for orders placed online.
    In THIS POST I wrote.-
"On the 4th July BT phoned me.... Only offered me the Infinity package with Unlimited and Anytime calls.
This was also the only package available to me if I ordered thru the BT Infinity checker website.
On the 7th July I phoned sales and ordered the Infinity option 1 with 40GB cap and Weekend calls.
And added an uplift for Anytime UK landline calls."
Btw On Installation day I reccommend you ask the Openreach engineer to mount the Modem on a wall for its ventilation slots to work more efficiently.
    Good Luck

  • New Infinity User - Reduced speeds

    Dear all,
As a fellow BT Infinity user, I thought I will share my experience with you.
I got my BT Infinity option-2 (unlimited) installed on 27/09/2011 with a white box modem and Home Hub-3.  The BT Engineer said that I should get approx. 33.9mbs downstream and 8.6mbs upstream (as stated on my BT order) and would take up to 10days to achieve this speeds.
When we did a speed test using a wired connection on http://speedtester.bt.com the reading was approx 15mbs downstream and 7mbs upstream. When I queried the less than half downstream reading, once again the BT Engineer said it would take up to 10days to get the required speeds. Then we did a couple more tests and the line speed was ranging between approx. 11 – 19mbs downstream and 5-7mbs upstream.
I then called the BT broadband support and updated them with the speed issues and once again I was told to wait until 10days and I’ll get the speeds specified on the BT order confirmation. So I waited for 10 days….
Now 10 days have passed and nothing has changed. I have already done several speed tests (wired connection) and logged my results with BT. Called BT support and they say to wait for another 10days and the speeds will increase.??
My speeds are still raging between approx. 11-19mbs downstream /  6-7mbs upstream.
I have read some forum suggestions to contact the mods. Is this (contact form) the right form to fill in and send to the mods ?
    With kind regards,

Yes that's the correct form, include a link to this thread. A Mod will respond in a couple of days.

  • New Infinity customer help please.

    Hey all
I had infinity option 2 installed today after 2 weeks of extreme excitement waiting for it. It was installed at 12pm and everything was great with speeds of 37mbps dl and 10mbps ul, but then as it got a bit later the speeds have seriously dropped, its now at 8mbps dl and about the same up load. The engineer told me that the speed should definately not drop at peak times and that I will have 37mbps all the time. Also Im trying to download a tv series from utorrent which I was really looking forward to doing with my new connection but the speeds will not go above 2.0kbs, Im starting to regret this already. Any similar experiences ? or solutions ?
By the way my set up is Smart tv and laptop connected wirelessly and ps3 connected with ethernet.
    Thanks alot in advance.

To get an Idea of your speed profile can you run http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
Preferably wired direct into the router/HH3 and no other activity/downloading etc going on.
And we can see what your IP is set to at the moment.
    For example mine is.-
IP Profile for your line is -38717 Kbps
Download speedachieved during the test was - 36616 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 12000-38717 Kbps .
