Infinity speed difference of 12 Meg in the same st...

I have just ordered infinity and the checker says I will only get 28.6 download speed. My neighbour has also ordered infinity and the checker says he will get the full 40.0 download speed. Why such a difference as we are both on the same exchange?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

The exchange has nothing to do with your estimated speed under a VDSL FTTC system. The speed that you'll get is all down to the distance your line takes from your house to the local FTTC cabinet that would of been recently installed generally next to a existing small green BT Cab.
I can speak from my experience my estimate was as follows -
Your download speed should be: 29.3Mb
Your upload speed should be: 6.6Mb
But generally my IP profile from the BT speedtester were as follows -
Downstream Rate IP Profile for your line is -38717 Kbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10000 Kbps
BT Infinity (EASTF) 58.93/15.94 Mbps [IP Profile: 60.8/20 Mbps] using Openreach Modem & Billion BiPAC 7800N

  • Infinity Speeds YoYo Massively 2 Meg to 40 Meg In ...

Like many people here i've been recently experiencing random speed drops. Predominatly in the evening.
For example today at 2pm i ran a speed test and got a result of 42 mb/s tonight im varying between 2-8 mb/s.
The bt speed test showed me a speed of 4 meg with an ip profile of 38 meg only 1 hour ago.
Normally restarting allthe kit helps, but tonight im getting no luck.
Whats frustrating me is that no more than 5 minutes after the above speed test i re-ran it and am getting 14 mb/s with a download speed of 1.4 meg a second which is what i'd of expectedf for that speed. Even still i got 40 meg download earlier in the day.
All very random and sporadic. I dont see the point in raising it with the indian people and i've read good comments on here about the moderation team dealing with thing.
Its worth noting the installation engineer installeld me with the version 2 infinity modem and not the latest one (if this has any bearing on the situation). Noting the modem isn't hot, nor is the power adapter. The installation took place 3-4 weeks ago.
All test have been done hard wired, i live alone too with no servers running etc.
    Any idea's????
    Phil

All ports are , that's how a switch works with a router. Regardless of wired or wireless it used to return 40meg speed wirelesslys always. Now I get **bleep** speeds. Also actual downloads from websites like nvidia which can quite happily serve 4meg download speeds for me historically, shows about 800 kilo bytes down so about a 8meg connection speeds, which is in line with speed test results

  • Unlimited High Speed being capped to 5G for the same price, Verizon **bleep**?

Looked into upgrading my USB760 to a USB551L today, and was told I would be forced to change my plan when 4G came to my area.  I have unlimited service for 59.99 and when forced to change will pay the exact same amount for a service with a 5Gig cap.  I love the idea of having mobile broadband and have kept the service mainly because of the unlimited use; however, when I signed up for this service I was told as long as the line was active, they would honor my current plan.  What happened to the "Grandfathered" agreement that I signed up for?  Customer service advised that I could go ahead and upgrade with the same plan, but as soon as 4G hits my area, I would be forced into the capped plan for the same price.  Why in the world would I agree to move from unlimited to a capped plan...so like I said, Verizon **bleep**?

I have a 10g plan for $80,  2 10g  Ntelos plans, (because Verizon is too expensive), and that is still not enough for 3 avid users. Who decides how much bandwidth is for normal usage? If I had the ability to get a hard connection, I would do so, but unfortunately, living out in rural areas, it's not possible.
While in the UK this past summer, I used the wireless provided at the hotels. The wireless speeds were at least 5x's faster than what we have in the states, and I am talking rural Glencoe, Scotland! Nothing but mountains and pastures where I was staying.
It's definitely corporate greed. Keep that pipe tight and only give out bits...
I know for a fact, because my husband was involved in laying fiber optic cables, he knows how much bandwidth that can be piped thru one cable, and what do you think provides bandwidth to those cell towers? Fiber Optics! Is there a cap on a hard connection? Is there a cap on Fios? I know Comcast thought about putting a 250G download cap a few years past, not sure if that happened. Come on! 10G download and upload cap!
Where are the bigger plans? I am willing to pay and I am, but seriously, 10G's I use alone and that's without live streaming and Videos... can't afford to use up the bandwidth.
Hopefully there will be another option coming soon for us who are held hostage by wireless broadband, and a 10G cap.
    Obama! Where isOUR broadband internet!

  • Getting slow wifi speeds on wireless router connected to the same LAN

I have a main router/firewall with two wireless routers(linksys E2500 and TP link) connected to it.I want to configure them to all be on the same LAN (192.168.19.0) so i experimented with the TP link first by removing the ethernet cable from the WAN port and inserting it in the LAN port then I disabled DHCP and it worked perfectly. The only downside is that i am getting slower speeds on the TP link compared to the linksys which is still on the 192.168.1.0 network.Ethernet also works fine though i've observed that the TPlink name displays on the ethernet NIC. Can the speed be increased one way or the other or i have to change my setup?

  • The speed will reduce when using at the same time a lot of global variabl?

It's seem like that when i use a lot of global variable. Is it correct?

  • RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router.

RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router. The customer had upgrade to a 20 meg cable internet service from a 10 meg service.   The customer is only able to get the 20 meg service going from cable modem to PC.  If he goes thru the RV042 router, he is only getting up to 10.7 down and 1.37 up.  Additional steps taken….He had a Linksys SRW224P switch connected to the RV042 router and we had disconnected this switch for testing purposes.   We performed the speed test again and we get the same speed results so we know the switch is not the issue. He had upgraded to firmware version 1.3.12.19 – TM Feb 13, 2009 – tested speed and no change. We accessed the web management interface and tried several modifications.   This includes the following…..-       We disabled the firewall – no change-       We disabled SPI with is the Stateful Packet Inspection (I was thinking this one would do it) – no change in speed.-       We disabled DoS (Deny of Service) – no change.-       We set MTU to Manual and tested various byte increments based on MTU ping testing. – Once again, no change in speed.  He is NOT using Load balancing on the routerHe has NO access rules but does have a few port forwards. Finally, with each change, he is saving the changes on the router.

You are expecting 20MB throughput on a $150 router?  Well, ok, maybe.. Can you check on your router or switch if the port is set or auto negotiated to 10 or 100?  That could explain 10MB limit (although technically a 10Mb port is considered 20Mb theoretical max throughput as 100Mb port is considered 200Mb per Cisco).  So maybe you ended up with 10/half somehow?  MTU 1500 would also be good for that connection I think and to try to get max throughput.

  • Speed difference assistance

I currently have an old Alltel Huawei EC228 aircard that I use in a Cradlepoint CTR350 travel router which had/has access to the 3G network.  This card's specs say it can have a download speed of up to 3.1 Mbps and an upload speed of up to 1.8 Mbps.  At my house (where I do not currently have high speed Internet capabilities), I average a download speed of about 500 Kbps, which is well under the max spec but much better than my alternatives.
I am looking into purchasing a Verizon hotspot.  In my area, the 3G network is all that is available.  My question is, if I purchase a hotspot (which boasts download speeds of 5-12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2-5 Mbps, but is still only accessing the 3G network) am I going to see an increase in speed or will I still have close to a 500 Kbps download speed?

    Hello,
You should expect the same performance out of the new device.  3G is still 3G no matter what device is connecting to it.  Any marginal increases in efficiency you find will come from eliminating the extra cradlepoint router.  Depending on how far you plan to be from the hotspot the cradlepoint router may still have a purpose for you.
The hotspot may have a better reciever/hardware built in but I doubt you could make a jump from 500k to 5Mb with a simple switch.  You might be mis-reading the packaging, hopefully VZW is not misleading you.  A typical 3G connection in my experience is around 1Mb and I am normally at -80 dB signal strength.
With that said, a 4G connection would be a noticable difference when compared to any 3G device in terms of speed.  I typically get 5+ Mb connections whenever it is within range, I've seen higher than 15 Mb around the major metro areas.

  • Control two different parameters at the same time

Two motors were connected each other rigidly. One motor controlled torque and the other motor controlled speed. I generated some torque and speed data which represented one cycle of motion from a motor simulation. I like to send these two different data sets (torque and speed) to two different motors at the same time. Torque data sends to one motor and speed data sends to the other motor to see the response of the load profile. In order to do this, I thought about using multithread, but I am not sure it will work for this application. Usually multithreading delay the CPU time so the overall control process might be delayed, right? If you have better idea, please let me know.

If you are using one motion controller to control both motors, you will probably run into problems if you try to use multithreading on the PC. However, you can execute up to 10 programs (threads) at a time, in addition to host communication, using on-board programming. • Why BDC when we can do the same with Bapi's

    Hiii
Plz tell me why BDC when we can do the same with Bapi...
plz list out the differences clearly
    Thanks & Regards
    krishna

If the same functionality can be achieved by BAPI then we generally go for BAPI instead of BDC. The main reason is that the screen no can change in the next version and in that case the BDC code will not work. But if no BAPI is available then we go for BDC.
Sometimes we need to handle a large amount of data in BDC/BAPI in which it is not preferable to use 'CALL TRANSACTION' command. If the corresponding BAPI internally use 'CALL TRANSACTION'  command. Then instead of that BAPI we create a BDC with SESSION METHOD.
Ex: IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS internally use CALL TRANSACTION. So if we need to use a large amount of data we create a BDC with session method instead of using IDOC_INPUT_ORDERS.

  • Multi-Time dependent Logging/Viewing from the same source

    The problem:
I have one device, I would like one loop to run and wait a given ammount of time - this loop will query the device for the data displayed in the UI, another loop is to query the device at other differant times and log the data to a file.
Say for example the view is updated with fresh data every 1/10th of a second and the log is written with data every 1/2th a second.
How can I get these to run concurently?
For example, in java I would create two differant threads and set the sleep time in both to differant times, calling start() on each would give me two differant threads within the same program. What is the process to get this kind of "process detachment" behaviour in LabView?

I agree with the other post that you probably don
    't need parallel tasks
here, but if you do, here goes.
Make two loops, side by side, over and under, just not one inside the
other. The two loops will multitask and run in parallel as long as they
don't have dataflow connections. Drop a Wait Ms node inside the loops
to control the loop speed, and you pretty much have the same as the Java
solution, but simpler IMO. If the loops need to synchronize for some
reason, there are synchronization primitives in the advanced palette,
but again, it will likely be easier to put the tasks in the same loop
and simply make a modulo counter to control how often the various tasks
    fire.

  • Told by BT that I should accept the infinity speed...

After receiving a replacement homehub3 and then a contractor replacing the openreach "part" last year my speeds and drops were a thing of the past. I was contacted by BT after I made an enquiry when I read an article about an increase in the infinity speed..... He told me that it was good news that I can increase my infinity speed to 76mpbs down and approx 19-20 mpbs up, all I had to do was to commit to a new contract. Great news now an increase from approx 37mpbs to 76!
The past three days after several speed tests my speeds are around 41-44mpbs so I contacted BT, that was my mistake. I was taken through the test scenario and it was still coming back at about 55-59mpbs.
I was then told that I "should not have been getting the 72-74mpbs," and things like "are you sure?" I have been bragging about my 74mpbs to everyone for about a year now!
The young girl/lady on the line told me that I was only promised 64mpbs and I should be happy with these speed test results now of 54mpbs, my line has now been "split" and I am now "sharing"?? Oh and this time of day it is extremely busy on the internet?!
Sorry but I have done all the switch offs, resets, etc....I know what I had and it was approx 74mpbs for about a year, now a lot lower, so ideally I would like it back to where it was, if any moderator could look into this for me?

Basically what I was told, put up and shut up  But I am taking notes and keeping all records.
I joined because tyhe latancy on gaming was amazing, now its pants, totally ruined my experiance with them, just look at my connection now, that green line was almost at the bottom, now its hitting the middle

  • BT Infinity speeds not reaching the quoted through...

Hi, I'm after some collective advice (and maybe even some help) on my BT Inifinity connection.
    Firstly the facts:
I live roughly 682m (in a straight line)/1.3km by road from the local exchange.
My BT INFINITY Cabinet is roughly 0.48km on foot (possibly twice the distance when taking the copper cable length into account).
On ADSL 8mb: IP Profile of 7mb with a throughput of 6.95mb maxed with Hub 2 sync'd at 8mb.
On ADSL 2+ 20mb: IP Profile of 17mb with a throughput of 16.5mb ish with Hub 2 sync'd at 19mb (BT Quoted me 13mb on the broadband checker)
(I Know ADSL is a whole different kettle of fish compared to Infinity, it's merely an example of how well my line copes with broadband)
On 20/09/11 I had BT Infinity installed. The Engineer didn't tell me what speeds to expect but I knew from the conservative BT Infinity checker i should get at least 32.7mb (DOWN). My upload is maxing out at just over 8mb (quoted at 6.6mb by BT). I showed the engineer a speed test i did then and there with him in the room - the results are as shown: (35.8mb Down and 8.14mb Up)
    http://speedtest.net/result/1492182858.png
I was chuffed, even more so when it rose by the end of the day topping out at just over 36mb with the same upload speed. http://speedtest.net/result/1492351342.png
3 Days later my connection dropped and my throughput was showing as 32mb. I put this down to the DLM as i was still in the 10 day training period. But since then it hasnt changed and my IP Profile has been set at 33mb. On day 11 i power-cycled the modem and then the home hub but still no luck. 32mb is by no means nothing to be snuffed at but it seems speedtest.net is showing my speed wrong as i found out when running a test on BT Speed Test which showed me my Ip Profile of 33mb, but only acheiving a throughput of 30mb! So much for the "Your download speed should be: 32.7Mb".
So, i don't know if my initial higher speeds where my true speeds given that my line is very stable or if what i'm getting now is the best i can get and i got my hopes up for thinking i could still get much better than what BT quote me.

    Update:
Short Version: There was a 10v surge on my line that was causing my connection to be unstable.
    Result so far:

Long Version (Probably TL;DR so i apologise in advance):
Last friday I accidentally yanked the power lead out of the vDSL modem while trying to replace a dodgy Ethernet cable on my wife's PC - The Home Hub 3 is on top of her desk with the OR modem mounted on the wall above it.
As quick as i could i plugged the power back in, and it proved to be a godsend. My dsl light would flash, go dim and it would do it a few times before going solid green for about 10 seconds and then it would repeat. After a while I phoned Technical Support, who diligently read from their script and got me to check all the cables including the RJ11 from the modem to the phone socket - all while the dsl light was doing it's thing. It was irking me cause i had already gone to the trouble of diagnosing the cables and i knew it had to be one of two things; Either my line or the OR Modem. I perservered with the Inidan lady I was speaking to (She was being nice to i'll give her that) before she ran out of tricks and escalated my case to BT Wholesale and would contact me in 1-2 days to see if my connection was working.
Annoyed that she was about as much use as a silent movie to stevie wonder, i went back to trying to get my modem to connect which only got worse when the hub wouldn't recognise the modem being connected. The broadband light would come on as a steady orange after a failed connect attempt, but no PPPoE activation. I thought "great now my hub has gone up the tube".
Eventually after 7hrs i had enough, i unplugged both the hub and modem and took a five minute breather. I then started with the vDSL Modem, plugged in the RJ11 lead and plugged the power back in and low and behold, after a few tries the dsl connected. I gave it a minute just in case my modem was giving me false hopes. After seeing it had successfully connected i then plugged in the Hub and let it cycle through to the orange broadband light at which point i connected the infinity cable and got it all working again. I had reconnected at 30Mb/8Mb and thought the nightmare was over.
Next day (Saturday Morning), my modem had dropped to 22Mb/8Mb with an IP Profile of 24Mb and figured this was normal seeing as i spent 7hrs without any connection. I held my tongue and put up with it for the rest of the day.
Sunday Morning my modem had dropped again and  reconnected at 20Mb/8Mb with an IP Profile of 22Mb... i was not happy and i still hadnt heard back from BT. Fortunately i got a call from BT Wholesale who then asked me what the problem was (an Indian guy this time - do we not have UK Call Centers anymore???) and so i told him, and through his thick accent i manage to discern that he had booked me an Engineer for the next day (yesterday).
Engineer turns up - A quiet Indian guy who asked me what was up and told him, and while he listened he acted like he just wanted to get done and go. So i left him to it. Credit where credit is due - he did a line test (both socket and test socket) and didn't find anything wrong and said he would go the cabinet and have a look see. It turns out there was a fault with my line but he was almost done for the day and passed it onto another engineer who was actually quite chatty, polite and a joy to talk to. He knew what was wrong and confirmed it with me, plugged a test device in to the phone socket and shot off to do his thing. 10 minutes lates he comes back and does the line speed test with his gadget (i have no idea what its called). While talking to him to he showed me what the gadet was doing and showed that my line is capable of 44Mb/15Mb - lolled. He told me i can get the full 40/10 but i didnt hold my breath. He told me what he was doing next and what would happen every step of the way. he rang me to tell me my IP Profile had been reset and it did right as i was talking to him - he was even curious as to what i would get. He told me it would take a while for my speed to increase and happy as pig in smelly stuff i thanked him whole heartedly and waited as i was still stuck at 22Mb but i had a ping of 21 on speedtest.net... i new my connection was vastly improved. Pingtest showed a ping of 18!.
Today (tueday) still working and as i found out the hub 3 has this problem of not updating the speed. I had to go into the settings and "disconnect" the home hub but NOT the modem and reconnect and low and behold fast internet again. 37.5Mb/8.2Mb with a download speed of a steady 4.4mb/sec topping out at 4.5Mb on occasion and spiking sometimes at 4.7Mb/Sec.

  • Is the speed difference between an i386-optimized distro...

...and an i686-optimized distro noticeable on a really high-end computer (Pentium 3.2 GHz)?

    Yes there are.
This is a very simplistic explanation so also very newbe can understand, there forgive me for the naive language.
Basically i386 processor compared to an i686 has a very limited set of instruction, so that mean for particular i686 instruction an i386 has to execute more instructions to obtain the same result of 1 instruction on i686.
If you compile for i386 even if the program run on i686 processor it will execute more instruction (because it contain them) than an optimized executable for i686.
Having an executable for i386 means also that it "contains more instruction" so it will use more ram to execute.
At speed execution level there are very discordant opinion.
There are people that say there are no difference, other says that there is a gain of 5-10%, few say that the performace are worst. Personally I think depends on the kind of use.
The problem is that is very difficoult to make a precise comparison.
To be sure you need 2 twins machine and use exaclty the same distribution, one compiled for i386 and the other compiled for i686 with exacly the same installation and configuration.
Also in this case depens on the kind of application you use.
For instance i686 has a subset of instruction for "multimedia" so probably if you use application that do a large use of these instruction the speed gain is more evident than if you compare vim use.
On very hig end machine this difference should become less relevant since the execution time  became more little.
Example: on my 500MHZ processor an i386 program take  10 minutes to perform an operation so the equivalent i686 should take 1 minute less so 9 minute.
other machine, 10000MHz processor the same i386 program take 10 second to perform the same operation, so the i686 versione should take 1 second less that mean 9 second.
In both cases the gain is 10% but of course on shorter execution time the gain is less evident.
But thinkg to a lot of application running all togheter on the long time the sum of all the time gain make a difference.
So mostly depens on the use.
Anyway using i686 optimized code does not make think worse......

  • How does the Infinity speed predictor work?

Today I had 2 surprises. First, when I put my phone number into the BT "Is Infinity available" checker, for the first time in many, mamy checks, it gave a speed and a date.
    22.4 Mb/9.1 Mb and 31/12/2010
I am intrigued to know how that prediction is arrived at?
Presumably it is always 40Mb at the cabinet. Does the tool really know how much copper there is between me and the cabinet?
Second surprise was when the same check told me I could get 7.5 Mb now on 21CN. That was surprising because I am currently getting that or a tad better on MAX *and* every previous check, going back months, had reported 15 Mb available on 21CN.
Has the checker improved in accuracy, or gone haywire?

If you are refering to the built in wireless flash control...
That's done via the built-in flash. It "communicates" with an off-camera flash via flashes of light.... Optically in other words, so the off-camera flash has to be within a limited range, line-of-sight with the built-in flash. The off-camera flash needs to be ETTL compatible and set to "slave" mode.

  • Is there much speed difference between the iMacs?

Just wondering, if there is any noticeable performance difference between the 1.83 - the 2.0 and the 2.16?
I'd be surprised to learn that there was (and also, keenly interested to learn).
My experience is that a dual processor is noticeably more capable than a single processor (regardless of minor increments at the end of the processor number).
    Anyone?

You are right that it is more about futher differentiating the models than anything else. The speed difference is negligible, but a nice plus is you choose a larger display. Typically you also get a larger standard HD and maybe a better video card and if you add all those things up, the price difference is worth it.
