Hi eylattouf, welcome to the HP Forums.  Thank you for the well crafted question!
So if the Fingerprint driver is not installed, or apparently not being recognized, check the device manager to see if there are any unknown or errored devices listed. You can show hidden devices under the 'View' menu as well. If there are errored or unknown devices, remove them before installing the Validity drivers. After that restart the computer, and install SimplePass.
Here are the drivers for the fingerprint sensor: Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver
and the SimplePass software: HP SimplePass Identity Protection 2011 Software
As well, here is a generic troubleshooting document, which you can go through to make sure it is set up correctly:

  • Recent Fingerprint Reader update conflicts with Password Manager

    Hi,
After udating my Fingerprint Reader software to the most recent 64-bit 5.9.6.7084 version, my Password Manager (ver 3.20.0333.00) can no longer find the device. Am I the only one having this problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You are using the older Password Manager that's bundled with Client Security Solution.  And you need to update it to use the latest fingerprint software.

If you don't need the complexity of Client Security Solution, then another option is to start using the new stand-alone Password Manager 4.0

  • Possible to upgrade to a fingerprint reader? (X220)

    Hello.
I'm getting a ThinkPad X220 soon, and I was wondering if I upgrade to a fingerprint reader. The one I will recieve comes with the stock palmrest, so if I bought a palmrest with the fingerprint reader, would it work with the correct drivers?

First we need a Product Number to know which part of the question is asking for what is slow. SSD will speed up the load processor and usage but if your processor is slow then everything else will be slow with it.

  • "No attempts to start the service" fingerprint reader error caused by Camera Mute service.

Since installing the latest Thinkvantage Fingerprint Reader update I've been having the problem that my system stalls at the login screen with the error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot.
After about 30 seconds the problem goes away and I can log on using the fingerprint reader as normal.
I tried turning off all my start-up services in msconfig.exe and turning them on one by one, and discovered that for some reason the Lenovo Camera Mute service is the one causing the problem. As long as that service is set to not start at boot, I don't have the problem with the fingerprint reader at logon.
Odd. I thought someone else might find that information useful.

Do you have "RapidBoot Shield" software installed on your computer?  If so, would you please try uninstalling it and see if you still have this problem?  RapidBoot Shield is known to cause all kinds of startup problems like this.

I would love to be able to access my email by going to hotmail.com thn scanning my fingerprint in. Any help much appreciated. Cheers

  • FIngerprint reader stopped working after windows automatic updates

    Hi,
I recently purchased an Envy j109tx laptop.
From day one the finger print scanner was not working.
After updating hp simplepass it started to work.
Again today I installed some windows update. After that it stopped working.
The light in the fingerprint reader is not turning on.
Is there a fix for this?
    Someone please help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    @naga5speed ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums.  First thing did you do the windows update due to your system having some issue?
If not then do a system restore back before the update.
It is probably some microsoft update that is conflicting with the driver.
It is good to keep your system up to date.  But it is better to make sure before you run an update that you take a look as to why you are updating.
Do I need to fix an issue?
If i do not do the update will something stop working?
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
If this fails to work then you may have to back up your data and run a system recovery.  The reason for this is what ever update you ran has made changes to system files or the registry that a restore will not fix.

fingerprint reader not working and cant drag icons after windows 10 update

  • X220 Fingerprint Reader Counsumption

    Hi,
i really like the fingerprint reader - power on function but i wonder how high the power consumption is?
Does it stress my battery noticeable  when i don`t use the Notebook for few days?
Thank you and excuse my english

After my X220 is powered off for 24 hours (but fingerprint reader still active), the power meter says about 6% of the battery capacity was consumed (6 cell battery). This means that with the laptop powered off, the fingerprint reader might completely drain a 6 cell battery after 2-3 weeks.
I discovered that after power off (or hibernate), if I briefly pull and reinsert the battery, it seems to completely turn off the fingerprint reader including the LED. When the X220 is turned on the next day, the power meter stays the same. This seems to be a possible workaround. I suggest doing it if you plan to leave your X220 powered off for more than a couple of days.
I hope that Lenovo can fix it to make the fingerprint reader active only while the screen lid is open. There is no reason to leave the fingerprint reader on while the lid is closed. Or turn on the fingerprint reader only for one minute after opening the screen lid. That would preserve battery life even if you leave the lid open.

  • New Win7 update broke Fingerprint reader

On Tuesday 1/14/2014 my ThinkPad W700 (2757CTO) had the following Win7 updates applied: KB915597, KB2837615, KB2862330, KB2837617, KB2913602, KB2913431 and KB890830.  Since then my fingerprint reader has stopped working.  My guess is that KB2913602 caused it to stop working with KB2862330 as my second guess.
Since then I updated the fingerprint software to 3.3.2.50 (it was 3.3.2.43).
The fingerprint software says "N/A remaining slots for fingerprint
templates available" and when I try click to enroll a fingerprint is
says "Cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm the sensor is
    ready."
The ThinkVantage Diagnostic says it is working properly. The log file
    of the test Says:

Have you confirmed that either of the Windows updates you suspect are actually responsible for the current fingerprint reader failure?  Seems some experimenting would confirm your hunch.
You can go back to a restore point taken before those updates were applied as one attempt.  Sometimes this solves things, and other times it mixes things so that the problem isn't really erased.
You can restore a "system image" (if you do them regularly) taken prior to applying that series of Windows updates.  This is pretty much GUARANTEED to put you back exactly to the state you were at when that image was taken, software-wise.
You can selectively back out individual Windows updates using standard techniques. Windows knows about any relationships and consequences, so if more must be backed out as well it will ALL be backed out to meet your request to back out a specific update.
If you really do find updates that are responsible for the device failure you can just leave it uninstalled (you can also "hide" it, to avoid your possible selection of it again in the future).  If it really was meant to fix something, well obviously you're clearly not going to get that fix.  But Windows will at least ensure that whatever else also must be backed out along with backing out this update will definitely get done, so that you still have a stable system.

  • Fingerprint Reader on Lenovo Thinkpad x220

Hey guys, I'm having a few problems installing the fingerprint reader on Arch Linux. I have the 147e:2016 UPEK fingerprint reader according to lsusb. As far as I know, libfprint-UNSTABLE supports that, but I think it causes a few problems too. Sometimes fingerprint-gui crashes from "Segmentation Fault" and I tried adding it to the PAM sudo file, but whenever I run sudo something, it doesn't ask for a finger swipe. The green light also does not turn on. So, I tried manually running /lib/security/pam_fingerprint-gui.so and it returned "Segmentation Fault." I followed the fingerprint-gui on the Fprint page on the Arch wiki, but didn't work. So then I tried the fprint method, but all the packages they listed to install (Excluding PAM) were not found. I googled the package names (libfprint and pam_fprint) and it returned results from the arch package place, but when I clicked on them, it said the packages weren't found. Any ideas on where I could go from here?

Just a FYI. I did some poking around on this and found something interesting, so I thought I'd pass it along.
Disclaimer: I have NOT tried this, and don't even own the fingerprint reader in question.
Anyway, here's the trail I followed...
    The ThinkWiki page here:
       http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Integrate … int_reader
points to patches from a year ago in this bug report:
       https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=504399
So I downloaded the libfprint-0.4.0-1.fc15 and fprintd-0.4.1-1.fc15 Fedora 15 source RPM packages by drilling down from here:
       https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates … b1ec4e90dc
Then I exploded the RPMs and looked at the "spec" files... and here's where it got interesting.
Fedora seems to be getting the source code for both libfprint and fprintd from here:
       http://people.freedesktop.org/~hadess/
and not from the "official" code repository like the Arch AUR packages do.
So... you may want to give that code a try... or not

  • Fingerprint reader on new thinkpad tablet X220 "not detected"

    Hello,
I've just bought my new tablet and, overall, I a very impressed with its features.
One feature I thought was particularly cool was the fingerprint reader to log on. Sadly, the software didn't come with laptop and, when searching "fingerprint" in Start and scanning over the control panel, it was not there. I have read most of the discussios here concerning my problem, but found no answers and searched everywhere suggested. I then installed the driver from the lenovo site and got as far as the screen with a hand to register one of your fingerprints, clicked the thumb icon and it said that there was no such device detected on my laptop. I was hoping to get it working soon but if I can't find a solution it doesn't matter - It's not absolutely essential/urgent. I was just a little disappointed that the device did not work.
Thanks in advance for any help, Doug.

    hey DB-1618,
welcome to the forums and for this, could you check at Device Manager and see if the fingerprint device is listed in it? It should be under biometrics.
if it is there, uninstall it and then let windows install its generic drivers. restart your unit and reinstall the software which you got from the Lenovo Support Site

  • Tx2510us - Fingerprint Reader Not Detected after Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 installed

Have had Windows 7 32-Bit installed and running fine since early last year..   Today Windows Update installed Service Pack 1.
Now, the fingerprint reader (AuthenTec AES1610) is not detected.   Digital Persona reported the fingerprint reader isn't connected and the Device Manager shows installed and working properly..   When the computer boots, the logon screen shows not detected..
Have seen several older posts that reference a page with a fix for AuthenTec/Digital Persona, but get a 403 error when trying to access..
Hoping someone still has this info, or possibly there's a new fix to work with Service Pack 1..
    Thanks

Followed the given advice: installed SP1 again, ran Firefox in safemode, disabled other running programs as mutorrent, still Firefox didnt work. I had internetconnection (after restarting mutorrent this did work, the app telling me what the weather outside is worked) but no Firefox: as previous time I got the start screen, but could not browse the internet.
I also tried to start the Internet Explorer and it also looked as if that application had problems (but that can also be because I did not use it for a while - old version or whatever - and it is not my standard browser).
Have again performed a roll back in order to remove SP1, now Firefox works again.
If somebody has advice it would be very welcome!

  • T420s - fingerprint reader - no software for windows 7

    Hi,
since my last update with 'system update' (active hdd protection and something else) I get an error while logging in into windows with the fingerprint reader.
    Link to image
I am able to start my thinkpad using the fingerprint reader, but logging in into windows and starting the fingerprint reader software leads to that error message. So I removed drivers and software to install again. But I recognized, there are no drivers / software packages for the fingerprint reader for windows 7 anymore on the lenovo server. Also the system update doesn't show anything for that purpose. So I tried installing the windows 8, 8.1 software but I had the same error.
Furthermore, my system update cannot be started with the normal command anymore (tvsu.exe), I have to use the Tvsukernel.exe file in the system update folder. Something went totally wrong here. I tried to reinstall the system update again several times with no success.
Anyone with an idea? Don't want to re set up windows.
