Info needed before buying Nano.

The other day my friend came over with an i pod shuffle. when i tryed to put it in my computer... it didnt fit in my usb port! he said its cause my port is not 2.0 and the nano is the same. will the nano fit in my port? i dont know what version it is.
Compaq   Windows XP Pro   USB Port Version???

You can see a picture of the USB cable that comes with a nano by searching for "Apple iPod Dock Connector to USB 2.0" at the Apple store. The (smaller) connector on the left goes to your computer, and the connector on the right goes to the nano.
The port you need on the back of your computer should look like the one on the left in this picture:

  • Info needed  to buy a 2nd , HD for Power Mac G5- U.K.

Hi, who sells a 2nd HD to fit into my Power Mac G5
    Dual 2GHz.
    A 160GB Serial ATA; 7200 rpm would be O.K.
What make is the best and ho sells them.
    Cheers
    Trev

    Hi there,
I got my 2nd HD from PC world for around £55-60. It works perfectly.
Its a 250gb, 7200rpm, SATA. Would've got one off ebay but wanted somewhere to go back to if it didn't work, rather than just some random email address.
If you go into a PC world store, just look for the HD's in the brown cardboard boxes (they have big yellow stickers on them) & look for any SATA HD's they may have.
Also you could try any good computer shop for an SATA HD. Try : http://www.cancomuk.com/
Or try here for a trusted mail order service! : http://www.ghc.co.uk/acatalog/3.5-inchInternal_HardDrives.html - I've used them many times for bits n' bobs.
When you come to install it, use the drive screws (& cables) that are supplied with your G5 not the ones that come with the HD! These screws are just inside the computer at the top next to the HD bays, there're pre-mounted on a plastic tab on the left - you'll see them.
If your machine's bays are the same as mine you'll also need to unplug the power cable from your Startup HD & move the that plug down to the 2nd HD - as there are 2 power connectors on that cable, one at the end & one above it. So you should use the second connector in for your Startup HD & the connector on the end of the cable for your 2HD.
Note: the data cable for the lower bay "may" be stuck down (by tape?) underneath the drive bays (mine was) so it "may" need just a little gentle coaxing into position in your 2nd HD - just don't pull the other end from the Logic Board!

  • What you need to know before buying an antenna

Isn’t it time you upgraded to an antenna? Wait… what? Upgrade to an antenna? Whether or not you’re a cord cutter (meaning you’ve cancelled your monthly television service) you might find that adding an antenna to your entertainment viewing space can be a great upgrade for a variety of reasons. Whatever those reasons are, here’s what you need to know before buying an antenna.

I don't set out to sell anything, I'm an independent writer tasked with writing stuff about things to inform people. We link stuff to help people find things if they want to buy them, but the above isn't a sales pitch, it's info to help people figure out if they want or need something.
I didn't know that there was a cabal of antenna dealers who have been promulgating a myth (as a writer: nicely done there) about the nature of NTSC and ATSC; I hadn't ever considered that the antenna market was that large. When I received the request to write an article about antennas I was actually surprised; antennas don't have the support of major telecommunications companies and I sincerely doubt that there's going to be a run on them because of this article. I saw this as a bit of a public service opportunity to talk about a technology that a small segment would be interested in.
Anyway, I'm not sure we're going to get much farther on this; yes Best Buy sells antennas, but no, they didn't ask for an ad. They asked for an article that focused on how these antennas work and what to look for. Thank you for adding your insight about ATSC - I think that was actually covered in paragraphy three, but it's nice to see it spelled out more directly.
Have a nice day - and if you'd like to discuss this directly, please send me a DM on twitter @thetechnogram

All I can say is that I REALLY like my Touch 4th gen because I have all sorts of capabilities in a small form: e-mail, web browsing, news, weather, books, magazines, etc. etc.  Plus lots and lots of apps out there, including so many free ones.  I use the Cloud a lot so it's great to have everything sync'd to my MacBookPro (e-mail, Evernote, Pocket, etc.)
It would be easier, though, to do some of this, especially magazines, on the iPad mini, but, again, I love the small size of the Touch.
As for the 5th gen instead of the 4th, the fifth has Siri and the 3D feature in maps, which are great.  And I'm sure it's a lot faster in iOS 6 than the 4th gen.  And cool colors!
    Don't know if this helps . . .

  • I'm running on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Do I need to buy snow leopard first before upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I'm running on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Do I need to buy snow leopard first before upgrading to Mountain Lion?

Make sure your machine meets the minimum system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Although it says 2 GB RAM is the minimum, it's generally recommended to have at least 4 GB unless you only use your machine for "light" use (no movie editing/burning, etc).

  • I need to make sure of some stuff before buying...

Okay. Well. The main reason for me posting this topic is that I am planning on buying a MacBook Pro in a few weeks, and I was planning on buying a router to have my wireless internet, of course. However, with learning of the Airport Extreme, I was thinking buying this instead. However, I really need to know what I'm buying before doing so. I don't want to be disappointed in buying this.
    So, with that being said:
    1. With buying my mac, I will now have a computer to myself and so will my sister. We need to be able to be on the internet at the same time. She will be running a PC, a Windows XP, and I will have a MacBook Pro. I need to know if I will be able to run internet on both computers through the Airport Extreme Base Station and be able to ACCESS it at the same time. No interferences and such.
    2. I need to know if my internet WILL sync with this base station. I have a broadband connection right now, through Hughes Net. It has an Ethernet cable, but on the specifications of the Airport Extreme, it said that some ISPs may not sync with it. What can I do to make sure it'll work?
    3. With my Hughes Net, there is a thing that comes with it for everything to be plugged into. It has a few cables, the power cable, and then the ethernet cable. It is NOT router. But I dno't know what else to call it. Would I keep the ethernet cable in the back of this thing, and then plug it into the Airport Extreme Base Station, and then would it give internet to both computers?
Please, I really need to know the answers to these questions before buying it. If you have anything else to add about the two computers with the internet, pleaseplease add. Thank you to anyone who replies.

    1. As long as you don't change anything in the Airport base station's configuration while it's in use it shouldn't be a problem. If you change anything configuration-wise it will need to reboot so anyone using it will lose connection for 20-30 seconds.
    2. Most ISPs will work, they would have to have a pretty strange setup to not work with Apple's base stations. I think they are just covering their butts in case of some really odd thing that keeps it from working.
    3. Your Cable/DLS modem (whichever you've got) is probably the box with everything plugged into it. You want to plug the ethernet cable coming out of it into the WAN port on your base station. It will either say WAN or some access points use an icon that is a bunch of lines arranged in a circular pattern (think of a typical children's drawing of a sun with the sun "beams" coming out as lines coming from the sun), whereas the Ethernet ports would be labeled as LAN or with an icon with two arrows. BTW when you plug the bas station into your Cable/DSL modem you'll want to power down the modem (just unplug the power from the wall) then plug in the base station with the base station turned on, then plug the modem back in. Sometimes these modems will "remember" the last device they were plugged into and will only work with that device until they get power cycled.

  • I need to buy Jdeveloper before using it?

I have downloaded Jdeveloper from internet and saw many demos on internet on how to use it.
I want to develop application using Jdeveloper and deploy on the server, but i think before this I need to buy this.
Can anyone clarify me, what I should do?
    Thanks in advance.

    JDeveloper is free to use.
If develop a plain Java/J2EE app - it's free to deploy.
If you use any of Oracle's ADF/SOA/etc - you need to have a license to deploy in production.

  • Need advice before buying MBP please!!

Hi everyone, sorry this is AGAIN a "need help before buying" post.
I'm basically looking to buy a MBP for movie production : I will do data transfer (footage into USB3 to TB2 drives/USB3 drives).
And maybe some playback of very large 4K video files.
I was looking at a few options :
First of all I missed my chance and saw a rMBP 15inch 2.4ghz(ish) for 1900 (canadian) and didn't order it.
I've got my eyes on either another rMBP which is a 2.7 with Geforce 650M (june 2012) for 2400$ or a brand new one with maybe 2.5ghz for 2200$.
Your advices on these models? Is the Iris Pro GPU good enough? Is 2.2ghz enough for my tasks?
    Thanks soooo much!!

    Hi pbearr,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I’m glad to hear that you are in the market for a new Mac! I wanted to chime in here and make a quick comment about 4K video support. Are you planning on purchasing an external 4K monitor? If so, keep in mind that a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina Display does not support 4K video. To learn more, please check out this resource:
Using 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with Mac computers - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856
You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs with these Mac computers.
MacBook Pro (Retina, Late 2013 and later)
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
iMac (27-inch, Late 2013 and later)
    Mac mini (Late 2014)
Every user, task, and configuration is different. I wish you all of the luck in determining which Mac is the best for you!

    Hi,
    Try resetting your iPod:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430.
If that doesn't work, try restoring it:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.
If all else fails, you will have to place your iPod in Recovery Mode:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.
    Hope this helps!

  • Do I need to buy snow leopard 10.6 before I can buy Lion?

Do I need to buy snow leopard 10.6 before I can buy Lion?

Yes and then update it to 10.6.8 (combo update from apple.com) and then you are good to go. Just make sure you have everything backed up before upgrading to any new system.
    Cheers

  • When i upgrade to snow leopard do i need to buy a version specific to my macbook air

when i upgrade to snow leopard from leopard do i need to buy a version specific to my 2008 macbook air

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can use the Snow Leopard version that is used for all Macs > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard#
Make a backup before upgrading. Also, as you have a MacBook Air, it hasn't got a SuperDrive, so you have two options to install Snow Leopard:
    1. Use DVD or CD sharing from a different PC or Mac, as stated in the Snow Leopard installation steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Snow_Leopard_Installation_Instructions.pdf
    2. Get an external DVD drive and use it to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
I recommend you to get an external disc drive, so installation will be faster. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version

  • Do I need to buy new programs for osx lion?

Do I need to buy new programs for osx lion?

First you need to make sure you have a supported machine, and all the current updates (Core 2 Duo, i3/5/7 and 10.6.8.)
If you are using Microsoft Office 2004/8, then you will need to buy Office 2011. If you are using older versions of Adobe Photoshop before CS3 that are PPC only, then you will need to buy a newer Adobe CS.
If you are running iWork 08, it will work, but there will be no support for full screen unless you have 09 version. If you use Apple software like Final Cut or Logic Studio, you will also need the latest versions to use full screen support.
Basically, if you have any software installed that is more than 2 years old, you need to check if it is Intel, PPC or Universal. Because anthing that is listed as PPC will not work at all. And most Apple apps older than 2 years do not have any support for the new Full Screen or Versions features.
If you want to see if you have any PPC apps that are not supported at all, simply click the Apple icon at the top, click about this Mac, then click more info. System Profiler will open, on the left side click on "Applications" and you will see a list of every installed app. The far right column will tell you KIND, Intel, Universal or PPC. Anything in the list that says PPC will not work after installing Lion.
