Info package in process chain

Hi experts,
I want to create process chain and have created a start process
variant.Now i want to include info package. I drag and dropped the
infopackage and tried to give the infopackage name but it is showing
that there are no infopackages in the bi system. I clicked on
create, a new session of bi system is opened.When i tried to drag
and drop the other objects like dtp it is showing all the dtps in bi
system.
Anyone please explain me how to include info package into a process chain.
Full points will be assigned.

loadings. Can i know how and please give me a step by step
procedure for that. I have the data sources as 2lis_03_bf and

Info Package in Process Chain having 0 records is taking 1 hr 5 mins to complete. Time out time is set to 10 mins.

Info Package in Process Chain - Performance Issue

Dear All,
We have some Info Package in Process Chain which when triggered initially turns red, then again yellow, after sometime red/green. These status keeps changing and finally results in green status. These infopackage takes 15-30 mins to complete.
And the info package error message shows "Processing time overdue". The chain runs daily and this issue also occurs on a daily basis.
Does anyone one of you have an idea of how to deal with this performance issue?

As you said--
"initially time out time was set to 10 mins, so it was turning red at 10 mins. Later i changed it to 30 mins, then it is turning red at 30 mins, this info package takes maximum 20 mins to complete.
thatsy i asked whether there will be any problem if we remove this time out time."
I guess, its not mandatory to include the timeout value. Just try to execute the IP without entering the timeout value.
It should work.

Status of Info packages and process changes become yellow after Unicode con

Dear Friends,
We have been facing very critical issue in Production system after Unicode conversion.
Sequences of Details are provided for your reference.
1. We suspended all BW loads for 48(2 days) hours before Unicode starts and Handover the BW system to Basis.
2. Basis started doing Unicode conversion on BW and they found some standard jobs ( BI_* , Ex: BI_PROCESS_LOADING) which are released status and they assumed that these jobs would run any time so that they suspended all of them but they didnu2019t inform to BW team that they had done. We didnu2019t know that when they did that like pre-Unicode installation, during the Unicode conversion and post Unicode.
3. Basis handover the system to BW team for Unicode testing (we called five finger testing) and we didnu2019t find any issues in the testing. Again we handover the system to Basis for post installations settings for Unicode and back up things. That time we didnu2019t release any jobs to load data to BW because Basis didnu2019t inform us that we can start loads.
4. After post installation is done and basis told us that you can start loads from Monday. Entire Unicode activity had been done on weekend.
5. Before releasing all BW loads to run regularly, I found the all completed process chains status become yellow and I did further detailed analysis to find why; then found some more strange things those are as follows.
          1. Only info packages in process chains are become yellow and other process variants are fine like activation,
               DTPu2019s, index and DB stats.
          2. Requests in PSA which were completed successfully are become yellow.
          3. Info packages in the process chains are successfully completed are not updating correct status instead of green it
              showing yellow because of that other dependent objects are not triggering.
We all thought that suspension of standard jobs must have been caused the problem.
How can we change the status of IPs, PSA and process chains automatically?
We reactivate all PCu2019s and released to run tomorrow.
Could you please share your thoughts about the issue and help us resolve?

A couple of questions :
1. If your previous PC runs were in yellow status - it would not impact furute PC runs..
2. If your IPAKs are in yellow - then you might have an issue with deltas happening since the last status would have been shown as incomplete.
3. Suspension of the standard jobs will not affect the status since the jobs were suspended but not the actual loads i.e the loads were not stopped halfway but only the released jobs were stopped - you might have to schedule the process chains again to get back the old schedule.
Usually in a Unicode conversion - the data is exported out of the DB and imported back - this might have caused some inconsistency in the database for the RS tables used for the monitors.
Which version of BW are you in ..?
were there any errors in the export / import procedure for unicode conversion ?
As part of testing did you check if loads went through properly ..?
Was stats run on the tables after unicode ?
Also if possible regenerate all the indices on the files.
Rerun stats and indices for all RS* tables

Scripts, Packages and Process Chains

All,
Is the best practice to create each individual process chain for each script logic file or create one and use it for all the scripts? If I execute 2 scripts at the same time, will I encounter any locking issue?
Let's say I have Script1.LGF and Script2.LGF to perform to different activities. If I link it using the same process chain with Run logic, will the Script2.LGF execution file if Script1.LGF executes?

Hi,
Yes I agree. Too many process chains would add to your maintenance. You could have once process chain and modify the dynamic script of each package you create in a such a way that they run the logic assigned to them.
If you are running the packages that are writing the same data region, you would come across concurrency data locks.
You could also check the usage of package links in your case, as you could group the packages to run one after another. (Example: Import the data from a flat file, Run the currency conversion and Run the lite optimizatio etc.) This is just an example, you could have your DM packages in the sequence driven by your business

How do i change the package in the Transport connection. Iam transporting a PC from D to Q.
1. I have some routines created in the infopackage.So i selected this one in the transport connection. I noticed under infopackages the following are also checked. a. infoobjects b. DataSource c. Infopackage d. Infopackage e. infosource f. transfer structure g. source system.will that cause problem in Q as I have them already in Q and P
2. How do i change the package in the transport..Currentl all of them are &tmp. Please help me with the navigatioln steps.
3. After clicking the truck icon, what shld i do ..do i have to transport the request as well. please provide me with steps.

Ans : If you have ticked Transport Check button for Infopackage then only Infopackage is transported. Underlying Infoobjects, Transfer Structure etc. will not be transported.

Ans : once you have pulled the necessary objects in the Transport Connection, Right click on the relevant object and select 'Change Package' to change the package from $tmp to others.

Ans : Assign the Package by following question2, then assign Transport Request by clicking on the Truck Icon in Transport connection for the objects you have collected and then go to 'SE01' Transaction give the request number which you assigned in Transport connection and click on 'Display' which displays the request and all objects assigned to the request. select the Task Request and click on Truck icon which will release the task and then select the Main Request and click on Truck icon again which will release the main request.

Inf reg process chains design

My process chain is done succesfully.. I followed as
Main Chain
Start->Delete Data (3ods)->Load data(3ods)->Activate(3ods)-> And(all success ful)->2local process chains(series to and) -> Materdata Load(parallel to and)->Attribute change run
Local Process chain 1: ( Data loads from ods to cube)
Start->delete index(cube)-> load data(6 info packages)
Local Process Chain 2: (Data loads from Flat File to Cube)
Start->load Data(another 6 Info Packages)->and(condition)-> delete Index(cube).
Now tell me in design why am getting too many parallel processes for chosen sever

Too many parallel processes for chosen server
Message no. RSPC118
Diagnosis
On the server you have chosen, there are only 4 batch processes available. The process chain has been designed in such as way that 5 processes must be processed parallel.
System Response
Only 4 processes can be processed parallel. Note also that to be able to start sub-chains, AT LEAST TWO free batch processes must be available. Otherwise a lock situation may arise.
For more information, see SAP Note 621400.
Procedure
Reduce the number of parallel processes in the chain or include sub- chains. This warning applies to all relevant processes.
Procedure for System Administration
Increase the number of batch processes available. You should note however that it makes no sense to set up more batch processes than there are CPUs on server .
Suggestions:
You may created your Process Chain with 5 parrllel lines or more..You don't free Background Process Available in the server where it is running. I think you have only 4 Background Process Available.

Need input: do process chain/InfoPackages changeable on PROD in your compa?

We have to make our big process chains/InfoPackages changeable on our production system. But you know whenever we modify a process chain and activate it or save a changed InfoPackage, the annoying Change Request window pops up to force you to create a change request. Our authorization team doesn't think it's right to create change requests on PROD and they are reluctant to give us such authorization to create any change request. We wonder without creating change request, how would we modify process chain/infoPackages and save them?
Does your company allows you BW guys to be able to modify/create process chains/InfoPackages and create change request on PROD?

As an ideal situation , we should not change any thing even the name of any object (like Ajay said).
But still you have you option to make PROD system to allow the changes to Info packages and Process chains . For this follw as below:
In PROD system , go to 'Transport Connection' tool> 'Object Changeability' pushbutton>for Object types RSPC and ISIP make "changeable" .

Load data from PSA to ODS in Process Chain

Hi All,
I want to load the data from PSA to ODS. I am using 3.5 Version. I have created the Info Package to load the data from R/3 to ODS.
I just want to load data in the following Condition
1. Need to load data from R/3 to PSA.
2. Need to load data from PSA to ODS.
I need to include this two Info Packages in Process Chain.
I dont find any option to load PSA to ODS through Process Chain..
Pls Suggest.

Hi Ram,
You can keep the settings in the infopackage to load data from R/3 to PSA (by giving the settings as PSA and then into datatargets). Specify the option Update in all data targets for which the Rule Exist unde rthe Data Targets Tab.
Then in Process Chian, there is an option by the name REad PSA and Update Datatarget under the node Load Process and Post-Processing in the Process Types.
In the varaint, specify the infopackage name and save the varinat and uise it in the PC.

Error while executing the Process chain

Hi Friends,
The process chain that I scheduled is getting failed at the Infopackage loading stage.
On checking the diplay message, I found the following log:
Cannot stage requested data for datasource
Error in source system
I activated the datasource in source system, then replicated the same and tried to load data.
But the issue remains the same.
I checked in RSA7. The status corresponding to this datasource is in yellow status.
Can I delete this entry and try again?
Please suggest.

" This error normally occurs whenever BW encounters error and is not able to classify them. There could be multiple reasons for the same
1) Whenever we are loading the Master Data for the first time, it creates SIDs. If system is unable to create SIDs for the records in the Data packet, we can get this error message.
2) If the Indexes of the cube are not deleted, then it may happen that the system may give the caller 70 error.
3)Whenever we are trying to load the Transactional data which has master data as one of the Characteristics and the value does not exist in Master Data table we get this error. System can have difficultly in creating SIDs for the Master Data and also load the transactional data.
4) If ODS activation is taking place and at the same time there is another ODS activation running parallel then in that case it may happen that the system may classify the error as caller 70. As there were no processes free for that ODS Activation.
5) It also occurs whenever there is a Read/Write occurring in the Active Data Table of ODS. For example if activation is happening for an ODS and at the same time the data loading is also taking place to the same ODS, then system may classify the error as caller 70.
6) It is a system error which can be seen under
the Status tab in the Job Over View.
solution:
" If the Master Data is getting loaded for the first time then in that case we can reduce the Data Package size and load the Info Package. Processing sometimes is based on the size of Data Package. Hence we can reduce the data package size and then reload the data again. We can also try to split the data load into different data loads
If the error occurs in the cube load then we can try to delete the indexes of the cube and then reload the data again.
If we are trying to load the Transactional and Master Data together and this error occurs then we can reduce the size of the Data Package and try reloading, as system may be finding it difficult to create SIDs and load data at the same time. Or we can load the Master Data first and then load Tranactional Data
If the error is happening while ODS activation cause of no processes free, or available for processing the ODS activation, then we can define processes in the T Code RSCUSTA2.
If error is occurring due to Read/Write in ODS then we need to make changes in the schedule time of the data loading.
Once we are sure that the data has not been extracted completely, we can then go ahead and delete the red request from the manage tab in the InfoProvider. Re-trigger the InfoPackage again.
Monitor the load for successful completion, and complete the further loads if any in the Process Chain.
6.Idoc not processed completely.
Here the request remains yellow (in process) and with the same details (as seen in the details tab of the monitor) for an abnormally long time. Many-a-times, the port for communication is not open and re-starting the load helps. For long running jobs, it may not be advisable to restart the extraction
Contact the BASIS administrator to push the IDOC.

Process chain executed synchronously produces dump and hangs

Process chain (RSPC) being executed synchronously hangs on a step (not first) with yellow status. Analysis of ST22 shows there is dump: RAISE_EXCEPTION
The chain loads data from flat files on frontend to several characteristics (attributes and texts). All the steps are sequential.
After the start first file is loaded successfully (info package), subsequent data transfer process has no errors too. But the second info package becomes yellow and hangs just after ( after some time timeout occurs and the step becomes red). In ST22 i see dump, text of the dump is below. Analysis of the dump reveals that 'GUI_UPLOAD' FM doesn't work during execution of the second info-package.
The chain looks as follows:
1. Info package 1

3. Info package 2              <-------   hangs here because of dump

If i load the step manually it works. The hung step is possible to re-execute after it gets red (with context menu) and it works then. After that it hangs on the 3rd info-package and so on.
The file lays on a network drive, but i suspect it doesn't matter

How to stop a process chain when its running? is it that a chain can be stoppend when we open an info package of that chain ?

" This error normally occurs whenever BW encounters error and is not able to classify them. There could be multiple reasons for the same
1) Whenever we are loading the Master Data for the first time, it creates SIDs. If system is unable to create SIDs for the records in the Data packet, we can get this error message.
2) If the Indexes of the cube are not deleted, then it may happen that the system may give the caller 70 error.
3)Whenever we are trying to load the Transactional data which has master data as one of the Characteristics and the value does not exist in Master Data table we get this error. System can have difficultly in creating SIDs for the Master Data and also load the transactional data.
4) If ODS activation is taking place and at the same time there is another ODS activation running parallel then in that case it may happen that the system may classify the error as caller 70. As there were no processes free for that ODS Activation.
5) It also occurs whenever there is a Read/Write occurring in the Active Data Table of ODS. For example if activation is happening for an ODS and at the same time the data loading is also taking place to the same ODS, then system may classify the error as caller 70.
6) It is a system error which can be seen under
the Status tab in the Job Over View.
solution:
" If the Master Data is getting loaded for the first time then in that case we can reduce the Data Package size and load the Info Package. Processing sometimes is based on the size of Data Package. Hence we can reduce the data package size and then reload the data again. We can also try to split the data load into different data loads
If the error occurs in the cube load then we can try to delete the indexes of the cube and then reload the data again.
If we are trying to load the Transactional and Master Data together and this error occurs then we can reduce the size of the Data Package and try reloading, as system may be finding it difficult to create SIDs and load data at the same time. Or we can load the Master Data first and then load Tranactional Data
If the error is happening while ODS activation cause of no processes free, or available for processing the ODS activation, then we can define processes in the T Code RSCUSTA2.
If error is occurring due to Read/Write in ODS then we need to make changes in the schedule time of the data loading.
Once we are sure that the data has not been extracted completely, we can then go ahead and delete the red request from the manage tab in the InfoProvider. Re-trigger the InfoPackage again.
Monitor the load for successful completion, and complete the further loads if any in the Process Chain.
6.Idoc not processed completely.
Here the request remains yellow (in process) and with the same details (as seen in the details tab of the monitor) for an abnormally long time. Many-a-times, the port for communication is not open and re-starting the load helps. For long running jobs, it may not be advisable to restart the extraction
Contact the BASIS administrator to push the IDOC.
