Info palette or eyedropper sample?

I'm trying to find some sort of eyedropper but the loupe doesn't show rgb info. it also seems i have a problem with the clipping indicator so i wanted to do a check on the pixel info but the loupe doesn't provide RGB info. is this normal?:

there is no way that is clipping or even close to 99% white.

Numeric readout has already been identified as a major missing feature. You can adjust the hot area threshold in preferences, if that helps.

  • CS4 Info Palette

I just upgraded to Photoshop CS4 from CS3 at work.We print solely to a Lightjet 430 in RGB. We are constantly sent flattened images that contain a clients logo that must match a specific PMS color. My method is to marque the logo, set a color sample point, choose a correct color from a color chart that is printed on the correct media, sample correct color from color chart file, use a curve to alter the original values to the correct values for printing, then use blend if sliders to exclude all other colors and viola perfect PMS matching in RGB.
Yesterday, we upgraded to CS4 because we keep receiving CS4 files from our client. To my amazement my technique will not work anymore. I don't know if this is a bug or something Adobe has changed on purpose. I checked and I do have the eyedropper set to sample all layers. What I've noticed is that in CS3, the info palette sample shows the current value of the sampled point. If you open the blending options, the info palette shows you the original value on the left and as you adjust the sliders, it shows the current value on the right. In CS4, from the get go, the info palette shows the original value on the left and the current value on the right. When you open the blend options, the numbers flip flop and any adjustments to the sliders have no effect on either value. Surely this is a bug. What reason could there be for removing this bit of functionality? Or is there just some setting I need to change? This color matching trick is something I use on a daily basis and if Adobe has changed this then CS4 is totally useless to me. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone know a workaround?
    Thanks in advance.

This is an interesting workflow, I don't know if I fully understand this part:

By this do you mean, the original color values correspond with underlying, and the new color values on top?
You may be able to use Replace Color (although that is not available as an adjustment layer).

  • CS6 Info Palette and Group Adjustment Layer Bug

The Photoshop CS6 Info Palette is not showing before and after in Grouped Adjustment Layers.
It only shows the after values on both sides of the Palette.
Has anyone seen this issue and found a way to correct it?
Interestingly, here at work we have two macs with the problem and two without the problem.
The two macs with this problem are:
    Mac Pro
    2 x 2.93 Ghz 6-Core intel Xeon
    96 GB 1333 HZ DDR3 ECC
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
    OSX Lion 10.7.5
The two macs that work correctly are:
    Mac Pro
    2 x 3.06 Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    96 GB 1333 HZ DDR3 ECC
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    OSX Lion 10.7.5
Does anyone know what might cause this problem?
    A little frustrated by this.

I am also having this issue.  It works on my MacBook, but not my iMac.  The only difference I see is that my MacBook is running 13.0 Extended, but the problem iMac is running 13.0.4 Standard.  On the problem computer I have tried logging in as a new user (clean prefs) and the issue still exists.  I've tried changing profiles, preview and proof settings with no difference.  I've also tried different eyedropper settings (current layer, all layers, etc) with no difference.  If I drag the correction layer out of the group, the readings show correctly.  If I move them back INTO the group, they only show the corrected values. Very odd.

  • Eyedropper sample points changing in CS4

Hola. I upgraded to CS4 a couple of weeks ago and having issuse with the eyedropper sample points
Here's scenario. I select the eyedropper, and shift click to add a samplepoint on a base image, (so I can try and match some numbers via the info pallete). Then I add layer which I want to colour match, and add a curves adjustment.
So far so good. But as soon as I make a clipping mask with the adjustment layer, the sample point information disappears. I need the info to see if I'm matching the numbers - but it's visually confusing to have the adjustment layer effecting everything. What gives?
Also the color sampler information used to remain locked - it now changes depending on what layer I have selected. (I have 'sample all layers' selected in the eyedropper prefs BTW)
I remember reading about some buggy behaviour in CS4  like this -  but surely this has been ironed out by now?
    Cheers. Dave
2.8 GHz Quad core Xeon. OSX 10.5.8

Your observation also seems to hold for CS5.
But the Samplers disappear on clipping masking only if the Layer to which the Curves Layer is clipped is empty at those points.
I suppose you could temporarily add a Mask to the Adjustment Layer instead of clipping masking.

  • Color densitometer or info palette when editing colors?!?

I am new to Premiere Pro, so forgive me if I have overlooked the obvious, but I can't find any sort of info palette that displays color info when using color correction tools within Premiere Pro. I have searched this forum and the Adobe Help info, but haven't found any info.
Considering that Premiere Pro has such powerful color capabilities, I would expect there is a way to measure changes being made. Coming from a Photoshop background, I rely on the densitometer and info palette for accuracy and repeatability. Although Premiere Pro's video scopes display a lot of info (I wish Photoshop had these!), they are not very precise tools. Having a way to measure actual color values would seem critical when matching color between two different pieces of footage.
One option I found is to use the "Leave Color" color correction tool's eye dropper to select a color, and then view the color values by clicking on the sampled color swatch. This opens up the familiar color dialog box with all sorts of handy color info. If Adobe could include that, why didn't they include a simple densitometer (eye dropper tool) and an info palette that displays color reading?
If such features exist, I hope someone will point them out to me. If they exist in a third party color editing plug-in for Premiere Pro, that would be a very compelling reason to buy it. Any suggestions on this would be most appreciated.
    cheers,
    Dave

David - Thanks for your reply. For my work flow in Photoshop, the densitometer and info palette are "must have" tools for repeatability and accuracy of colors, as well as many, many other uses. I calibrate my monitor and control my environment lighting, but recognize that my eyes and color perception will never be as consistent as a densitometer.
I am certain that Premiere Pro users would benefit greatly from these tools, and find it surprising that Premiere Pro doesn't have them. One obvious example would be matching the look of multiple film sources. Sure, you can make rounds of tweaks and preview them as they transition from one to the next. However, a method to read and compare color values would dramatically speed up that process.
I have started working with Premiere Pro's video scopes, and think these would be wonderful tools to work with in Photoshop. BTW, Jeff Sengstack has a good tutorial on the lynda.com web site. However, watching his videos, its quite apparent that he resorts to a lot of trial and error that would often be minimized with the ability to read color values.

  • Photoshop CS6 Info Palette & Adjustment Layers

I have searched but can't find an answer to my question so I thought this may be the best place to ask.
When I am using adjustment layers in PS 13.0.3 (mountain lion), I notice that the info palette is not giving me a before and after readout of the adjustment.
e.g. I add a curves adjustment layer and remove some cyan from the highlight end, I can see on screen that cyan is removed but the info palette gives me 2 readings, both the same. This can make it difficult if I want to remove an exact amount of colour. I have the info palette is set up the same as every previous version of photoshop I have used, 1st reading actual colour, 2nd reading cmyk. I know this is a bit difficult to explain so I have included an image showing the palette, CS6 on the left and CS5 on the right, same image, same coordinates. CS5 is showing that 4% cyan has been removed, was 18% now 14%, CS6 is showing what it is now.
I work in prepress and do a lot of colour correction for books and magazines so I need to know the before & after readings. Is this a bug/feature??

I'm having this same problem as well.
Two of our macs have this problem and two do not.
The two macs with this problem are:

  • More "Info Palette" options

If you feel that it would be a benefit to you to have the ability in iTunes to have more options in the "Info Palette"
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
and let Apple know it. I see that there are more options available for Podcasts, but not for my music files. Some thoughts are:
"Source" – I listen to a lot of live music and a field for AUD or SBD (audience or soundboard) would be great.
"Location" – for city/state. In order to keep the shows in an organized manner, they can be saved by date, venue, set: YYYY.MM.DD Venue set
This already creates a long folder name, adding city & state makes it even longer. I've been using comment, but there are other needs/uses for this column.
    "web address"
    Thanks

One thing that I always thought would be a good addition would be to add a crossfade option directly to each song file. Obviously so you could adjust the crossfade at the end of a particular song.
Say you have a whole cd ripped to your itunes library. You want it to sound continuous, without any minute gaps. Adjust the crossfade of the end track "a" so that that track "b" starts when track "a" has .5 or .25 seconds to go.
This could be good for playlists as well.
I'm gonna submit that as feedback..
    good topic.

  • Info Palette Options

I consistently use the Info Palette, but I find it too small, and after 1 hour or so, my eyes hurt!!  Is there no possibility to magnify it, at least 2x?

Many of the dialogs can be re-sized by dragging the little triangle at the bottom right, but the panels are fixed and can’t be re-sized. The new interface in PSE11 is a little easier on the eye. I think only by changing your display resolution will it make any difference but that could then affect the appearance of other apps. On Windows there is a screen magnifier in Accessories although working with it is not ideal.

  • Can i enlarge the fonts in the history palette or info palette?

    Hi
is there a tweak to enlarge fonts in the histrory palette or info palette in photoshop cs3?

Dude, I really hate to bust your stones, but do you explore Photoshop at all on your own accord, or do you post here with every question that comes to mind?
    <br />
<br />Open your Photoshop preferences and see the following (click on the image for full size). If the choices available don't work for you, then you need to either get some glasses, or post a note in the Feature Request section for a broader range of UI font size control.

  • Serious problem with the Info Palette

    Pr CS5.5 Mac:
One minute AV clip in the timeline.  At the head of the clip, Info Palette reports that Audio and Video time-code are the same; the clip is in sync.  But, one minute into the clip, it's OUT OF SYNC by two frames!!!  IOW, the time-code is off by two frames according to the Video 1 and Audio 1 info generated by the Info Palette.
The difference in time-codes displayed starts at the 1:00:00 mark.  There is no out-of-sync indicator being displayed.
    Will file bug report.

    Video = non drop
    Audio = drop
So... why would Pr display TC differently for TC from the same AV file?  That makes no sense, unless this is a bug or behavior introduced by the camera, which I suppose is possible.  Footage on this project is from a 7D.

  • RGB/CMYK/Lab values like Photoshop «Info» palette

    Hello.
How can we do that when moving the cursor over an image in a some window/place showing the current values RGB/CMYK/Lab as «Info» palette in PhotoShop?
    Thanks.

    >And the RGB readouts are based on the LR working space.
That's not true. The RGB readouts are based on the tone curved histogram space. The percentages you see there are certainly not in the linear lightroom space. Just try it out and you'll see. Clearly, the readouts correspond to the position in the histogram of the same area.
    >And the sRGB tone curve is NOT an exact 2.2 gamma, it's got a tweaked toe that makes it different. It's subtle but it's different.
You're absolutely right of course. There is indeed a toe in the black areas. In almost the entire range, the tone curve is just gamma 2.2 though.

  • Eyedropper sampling from Brush

Working on a Macbook. PS CS5. When I am painting using the brush tool I press the option key to switch to the eyedropper temporarily to sample a color. It samples the color but makes it the background color. I have to go swap colors to paint in the color I sampled.

  • Cannot get accurate eyedropper sample from imported graphic

I am working in illustrator CS5 set to CMYK which my imported photoshop layered file is also. When I sample a color from the imported psd file, it will not accurately pick it up. I have to write down the numbers in photoshop and hand apply them in illustrator. This is not the way it used to work so I think I have something set incorrectly. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? When I double click on the eyedropper tool, the 2 appearance boxes are unchecked. Thank you.

You were probably SHIFT clicking the eyedropper tool to get a color sample.
The Photoshop method is more accurate as you can set the sample radius. Embedding the image gets you almost perfect values, for some reason my tests show that to be off by a very minor 1/10 %, but much much  better than not embedding.
The values are supposed to be 15m 10015m 0Y 5K form a flat tint in Photoshop.

  • White balance eyedropper sample size

When I put a Grey Card into a photo shoot to gauge the white balance, then use White Balance in Aperture, I think that it only samples one pixel. This gives some widely varying white balance setting, depending on where I sample.
    Can I get a 3 x 3 or 5 x 5 pixel sample for White Balance?
