Info really needed on caches & cookies - please!
Whenever I read any article about 'How To clean Up your Mac' /'Make It Run Faster' etc it always mentions deleting caches & cookies. I have tons of each - how on earth do I know which ones it's safe to delete & which ones will kill my Mac if not there? I'm sure not, but is there any way to tell the difference? Ditto with histories....
Any help gratefully accepted - just moved from PC to Mac so I'm a bit dazed, to say the least.

Personally, I make it a point to delete both cookies and caches daily; I usually leave any cookies placed by businesses I deal with (credit card companies, banks, Apple , my ISP, etc) because at least one business will have me go through hoops if they don't find their cookie when I log in. It takes a bit longer when you delete some instead of all, but I've gotten used to it.
If you use Firefox, click on Preferences, click on Privacy, and then click on "show cookies" and then click on "remove" highlighted cookies or "remove all". Cache is found under Preferences - Advanced - "clear now". You can also occasionally click on Tools (top menu) and click on "clear private data", that clears out everything (cache, history) except cookies. You can also set up Firefox (Preferences - Privacy - "Private Data") to delete whatever you specify under "Settings" every time when you quit Firefox.
If you use Safari, go to Preferences, click on Security, click on "show cookies". Same procedure (remove one or all). As for cache, click on Safari and click on "empty cache". You can also click on "Reset Safari" and specify what should be deleted.

Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab then click Show Cookies
Type yahoo in the serach field then click Remove All > Done
Quit then relaunch Safari.
Try accessing your Yahoo mail account.
FYI... there is rarely a sure fire correct response for third party web based email client software. Often takes time consuming troubleshooting. -

Please stop altering the fonts, it makes reading postings extremely difficult. If help is desired, making postings difficult to read is not the way to get help.
Put the device in DFU mode (google it), then restore. -
i recently plugged my iphone4 into my laptop to sync, when i plugged it in, itunes told me that i needed to update my software, so i clicked up date and walked awayfrom my computer leaving it to do the rest, but by the time i came back to my laptop 2-3 hours later i had realized that it has run out of charge and because of it my phone had gone into retoration mode- and the only way to fix it was to press restore. what do i do? do i click restore or will that take my phone back to factory settings as i have a tonne of photos and videos etc that i have not backed up yet?

Did iTunes not create a new backup when you first connected it?
You really should be syncing your device and copying pictures off of it on a regular basis.
Starting an upgrade without first syncing and copying the pictures off is not a bright idea.
At this point, you only option is to restore.
Also, in the future, ensure your laptop is plugged into external power before starting upgrades. -

OK, so heres the story. I had a computer that i synced my Ipod to and it had all kinds of music on it. But that computer broke. So I bought a new computer but it wont let me synce with out deleting all of my music on my ipod because it says it can only be synced to one computer or something like that and says would you like to transfure purchases or delet and synce. but the only problem is is that the music on my old computer came from cds that i bought and i know longer have them. but i have news songs and cds i would like to add but also keep all my old music. so if you can help me with this i would truely truely br greatful!

That is correct.
the ipod is not a backup device. the music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer. Use your backup copy to put everything back. -
Help! I just purchased a US sim card/monthly pre-paid plan (i am from Canada) as I am travelling in the states for a month, and when I went to restore the iphone, it didn't work. I can't find backup that i did right before the sim was changed. I really need the info that was there! Please help..

Have you talked to your carrier to confirm the unlock?
What was the procedure you did to unlock the phone?
Standard unlocking procedure once processed by the carrier:
Backup in iTunes
Erase the phone (ignore restore terminology here)
Plug the phone to the computer and then launch iTunes
Wait for unlock notification.
Restore the backup. -
I get Connection Timed Out on these websites: energy-medicine-software.com and energy-medicine.info. I tried clearing the cache/cookies. I put in No Proxy. I tried Internet Explorer and still unable to access. I rebooted my computer. I know that this website is active because I contacted the webmaster and he says that it's active at his end. Make sure you install several add / mal-ware scanners and run them all
once in a while. Also;

My mac is only a year old. I am still under warranty but don't want to have to go to the store. I know it has something to do with not connecting to my hard drive and I want to make it clear that IT HAS NOT BEEN DROPED,BANGED OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY!!

For safe start The loading bar shows up but then doesn't load. After a few seconds it disappears and the wheel continues to spin.
I have tried PRAM but it doesn't help at all.
The only way I can get it off the start off page is to either go to fsck or Mac OS utilites.

Zen microphoto help!! please i really need your h
hello everybody, i bought a zen microphoto 4GB in June and it worked perfectly until two days ago. I turned it on like i do everyday to listen to music on my way to school. i downloaded the newest version of firmware onto it'sthree days before. when i turned it on, it went into recovery mode. so i went to reboot, and it goes back into recovery mode. i tried about 3 times, then it disabled all the functions. i couldn't control anything. so i took out the battery, and left it until i came home. i come home, put in the battery, turn it on. i plug it in the computer, and the computer does not reconize that its docked and the screen goes white and then it shuts off by itself. then it just freezes, it refuses to turn on. i tell my friend today at school and he said the hard dri've crashed and now i have a brick the size of a zen microphoto. is this true, or?is something else wrong with it. please someone help if you can. one method i saw and tried worked well but you need to try it at your own risk!!! turn off your microphoto, grab your microphoto with the screen facing you, and either slap your hand against the SIDE of your microphoto, or slap the SIDE of your microphoto against your hand. This method works for me but try it at your own risk. it could damage your hard disk. (its probably already damaged anyways.)and if you really need to turn off your Zen but it wont turn off, i suggest removing the battery.

so i droped my mom's ipad on accedent while walking inside helping carry bags inside... and at fist no one really thought anything of it but we got inside and my stepdad went to check something on it and was like um... something wrong and i guess the fall put it into shock or something but we held down the 2 buttons and it light up but it was black and just with the back light on. And it still wont work so im not sure what to do... I know where the slide to turn it on is so i did that and it made the click noise to signal it was on and i pushed where an app would be and it went to it and made the music to the app... so it works but for some reason the screen is being all stupid... I really need to know if there is a way to fix the screen because if theres not im in a ton of trouble... please help!!!!

try holding the top button and the round button at bottom of screen
hold both until maybe an Apple logo appears if nothing after 20 secs

I really need someone to help me. I have been trying to figure out how to select a PDF document to convert to a Word doc. When I go to select a PDF file, all that shows up is the WORD docs. does not show ANY of my PDF files... Please help me figure out what is going on? It sounds like there may be some confusion on your system about what application should be associated with PDF files. You can reset filename associations by following the steps in these articles (depending on your operating system):
