Info Required on Hyperion Reporting Tool

Hi,
I'm a newbie into Hyperion tool. The Client is having BRIO reports and now they wanted to upgrade/develop reports in Hyperion 11 with the SQL Server DB.
Please guide me with the exact reporting tool in Hyperion as there are many options under Hyperion Downloads.

As far as I know Brio acquired SQRiBE Technologies which had SQR.
SQR is called as Production Reporting in later version.
You can have a look at the documentation

It has documentation on both Production Reporting (SQR) and Interactive Reporting (BQY).
Again these are things I know,there might be better people in the forum who have worked with the product for more years that me. :)

Hyperion Reporting Tool

I have no knowledge of Hyperion products but have a fundamental question on what tool satisfies the traditional reporting needs such as CFR reporting, etc; Is it SmartView or some other tool within Hyperion or another product?
I was also told SmartView lets you change the data it has reported; to me that's not a feature of any reporting tool, it should not manipulate the data.

There are a number of reporting tools available for Essbase. Smartview can be used, but is also an ad-hoc reporting and entry tool. Many analysists find it very useful, but it is not meant for large production reporting tasks. You might look at Hyperion Financial Reporting and/or OBIEE. There is also a good third party tool called Dodeca from applied Olap.

- text type accounts
- smartlist accounts
Be prepared for some extra time needed to get used to the report editor. The interface feels like it was build for Windows 3.11.

Versions of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is the lowest verison of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool and the latest version. I need this for my analysis.
I searched for it , I was able to find Hyperion 11 is the latest one and Hyperion 6 was the lowest as far I searched.
Do anyone know exactly which is the lowest and highest version of Hyperion Interactive Reporting tool ?

Hope this gives you a little history lesson on the product. I have only started working with Brio 8.1.3 (now Interactive Reporting) since 2006. I have seen documents for version 6.x, and I heard version 7.x was a horrible product and short-lived.
Interactive Reporting Studio (the client version) has not really changed much since version 8.x. The drivers to connect to various ODBC have been added with introduction of 32-bit and 64-bit O/S.
I am a big fan of Brio, but it's not a commonly use tool.

Hyperion Reporting - Does it support customization

Hi All,
I am analyzing Hyperion as a reporting tool for our reporting needs.
We need to create, schedule and burst reports of various formats to the desired recipients .
We have some specific set of requirements like:
1) The tool should allow mailing the report in the body of the mail in plain text format.
2) Also, the tool should allow subject of the mail to be dynamic e.g. configured to come from db.
3) Should allow JavaBean as the data source.
4) Should have JAVA API for running,scheduling reports, bursting reports etc.
5) The repository having report design templates, scheduling information should be accessible to the developer.
6) Auto failover would be an added advantage
7) Also, the most important requirement is whether it supports customization in case the above features are not there or some new reporting requirement comes in.
If anyone could answer whether the above specific requirements are provided by Hyperion or not, and if yes then a good link or a tutorial where I can study about this tool in a more detail and simplified way, it would be really great.

Hi Ekta,
Probably the best Hyperon tool is Financial Reporting, which creates Production ready reporting/PDFs for export or bursting scheduling.
Although I'm not sure about supporting JavaBean as a data source - one way around it might be to export the data from the source into an essbase "reporting cube".

Required application context reporting is not available

I've just installed HPM 11.1.1.1 (product: ESSBASE/foundation/planning/Financial reporting) and I'm now testing Financial Reporting.
I created a financial report as indicated in http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/hyperion-financial-reporting-getting-started
I can run this report in Financial reports (PDF view)
1. But I cannot run the report in HTML (Hyperion Workspace) : error "Required application context reporting is not available"
2. Besides I notice that in Workspace -> explorer the voice File -> Import -> "Financial Reports" is missing.
Maybe something was wrong in installation, but I did it twice .... and Diagnositcs reports no errors.
So, is there some more activity to be done on Workspace/Financial reports so that integration of these two products work correctly ??
(Note: installing on Microsoft windows 2003 server - deploying on Tomcat and IIS6 web server)

This one has frustrated me to no end as well! One would think that when you install FR/WA they would automatically register themselves with Workspace as part of their configuration process (and one would be wrong).
The solution is to go back and run the configuration tool again. The only thing you have to select this time is Foundation Services... Workspace... Configure Web Server, then restart the two Workspace services.

Hyperion Reporting and Analysis

Hello Gurus,
So I installed Hyperion (11.1.2.2) foundation services(all componants), essbase(all componants), planning (all componants. well, it was only one componant), Reporting and Analysis framework (web application, services and common libraries. i installed only these two because hyperion planning depends on them), financial management ADM driver (chosen by default when i want to install hyperion reporting and analysis). i installed them and configured them all togather. I'm using a Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production on Windows 2008 SP2 32bits.
Configuration of Reporting and Analysis framework failed, and that caused several problems when i ran the EPM system Diagnosis. this is what i got. Note: I'm gonna list only the errors/warnings in anything other than reporting and Analysis. as for reporting and analysis, i'm gonna list everything. sorry it's so long....

yes, looks like i didn't have moduke 7 downloaded. however after i did and installed it, i still got the following errors that seemed to do with connectivity to RAFRAMEWORK and it's database. Can Some One Tell me what Hyperion Reporting Analysis Server Is? How do we get this Installed at Port 6800 and what is the name of the executable.
I can't login into Workspace or Reporting Studio becuase of this server?

Hyperion Reporting 7.21 - E-mail / SMPT Configuration

Good afternoon,
I need to update my SMTP configuration to point to our new Exchange server as my Scheduler within HR no longer sends e-mails. I have updated our hr_global.properties file to reflect the new server and recycled the services. I can also send test messages via telnet which also works properly. When I execute a Scheduled Batch I receive a "Success" message but the e-mail is never sent. Here's the back-end error message that is received within the HRSchedSvr.log file.

Hi Ekta,
Probably the best Hyperon tool is Financial Reporting, which creates Production ready reporting/PDFs for export or bursting scheduling.
Although I'm not sure about supporting JavaBean as a data source - one way around it might be to export the data from the source into an essbase "reporting cube".

Which Oracle reporting tool do I use?

I’m looking for a web based ad-hoc reporting tool, Preferably an Oracle product. Something that once set up and configured (point to a specific database) select users can login into via a browser and build ad-hoc reports. I don’t want to have to create a report then publish it for the end user and especially nothing should need to be installed on any desktop.
Amongst the confusing vast array of oracle BI products: Oracle Reports, BI Publisher, Business Intelligence Server, Interactive Dashboards, Intelligence Answers, Oracle Business Activity, Hyperion Interactive Reporting, Hyperion Web Analysis etc, etc, etc...... there must be what I’m looking for.
If someone could please point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

You can use Interactive Reporting Tool. To use Interactive Reporting you need to install below components
1) Shared Services
2) Reporting and Analysis BI Services
3) Reporting and Analysis UI Services ( includes Interactive Reporting, Financial Reportinig, Web Analysis and Workspace)
To meet you requirement you can perform the below tasks
1) Create an OCE publish the same to Workspace.
2) Give access to user on that OCE.
3) User can create their own reports.

Hi,
Could some one point in the right direction - we are trying to finalize the reporting tool.
We have worked with BI-Publisher(not as dynamic) and Discoverer(formatting a big issue) - trying to find a tool that would overcome the limitations that these 2 tools have.
We want to be able to use Oracle Db, VPD, set client_id using OPD.Net, integrate with web application as key requirements. By same token would like to be able to create dynamic reports which allows a great deal of flexibility. Is there such a reporting tool?
Any ideas much appreciated.

Reporting Tools

I'm relatively new to BW...I've been supporting it internally for our company for the last year+, but I come from a .NET background. My questions are in regards to the reporting tools that people use at different implementations. We use the BEx Analyzer with BW 3.5, but have been relatively disappointed with the user interface and the performance of the queries. We'll be upgrading to Netweaver BI after the first of the year.
1. What other reporting tools (3rd party, web tools, etc.) have people used and how have they performed with BW/BI?
2. How much of an improvement, either in performance or the user interface, is there with the upgrade to BI?

1. There are few third party reporting tools you can integrate with BW data like Business Object, Cognos Reporting sofware, Hyperion etc. All are pretty good.
2. If you are upgrading to BI 7.0, there are lots of new features added to BW/BI reporting tools and one new tool added is Report Designer.
If you are really upgrading to BI 7.0, I don't think you need any third party tools but again it depends on totally what tool you are comfortable with.

Dear Sirs,
We have Business Objects BI 4.0 and SAP BW 7.3.
Actually we are using Web Intelligence and BEx Query to reporting.
We have not Business Layer (Universe) between BW and BO because BO it's not supported to create universe (unx) on BW. So we create document in WEBI using BEx Query.
We want to use Xcelsius (Dashboard Design) 2011 and I was thinking that we can use query from universe to connect with BW (new functionality in version 2011). Can we? Or maybe we should to connect to BW using "Connecttion to SAP BW"?
We want to use Explorer (on iPad and iPhone), but Explorer requires universe (unx).
Is not possible to create universe (unx, because unv is not supported via Explorer) based on SAP BW, is it true?
We should we do, when we want to use Explorer with SAP BW?
Do I understand connection between reporting tools and SAP BW:
Crystal Reports - can I use cubes or BEx queries
Xcelsius - using "Connection to SAP BW"
WEBI - BExqueries or universe (but only UNV - old version).
Explorer - in my opinion is not possible
Analysis for OLAP - drirect to cube in SAP BW

With the current version of the BI 4.0 SP2 BI Platform, one cannot create a universe (.UNX format) against BW using the OLAP connection. However you can create a universe (.UNX format) using the Relational connection (see OSS note: 1656905 - How to create UNX universe based on Business Warehourse InfoCubes). One limitation is the use of hierarchies with the relational connection.
Then you can create the Information spaces based on the universe (.UNX format) that the Explorer can use.
BO Reporting tools:
1. Crystal Reports for Enterprise = you can use the OLAP connection (BICS) directly against the BW InfoCubes or Queries, if queries already exist in the BW system then you can leverage these directly (less time spent recreating the entire query in Crystal)
2. Xcelsius = you can use the BICS or Web Service or Universe to access the data
3. Web Intelligence = you can use the OLAP Connection (BICS)
4. Explorer = you can use a universe (.UNX format) via a Relational Connection
5. Analysis for OLAP = you can use the OLAP connection (BICS) to either a query or InfoCube.
It is hoped that in Feature Pack 3 which will be released later this year, that missing functionalities will be delivered for BI 4.0.
