INFO SOURCE in BI 7.

hai friends,
I'm new to BI 7.. UP TO BW 3.5 we are using infosource .. but with out infosource also we can upload the data into data targets in BI 7.0
then ,what is the use of INFO SOURCE in BI 7.0
could u plz tell me the situation .. that where we can use this infosource in latest version.

The decision to use an InfoSource depends on how the effort involved in maintaining the InfoSource and any potential changes in the scenario can be minimized.
1. Data Flow Without an InfoSource:
The DataSource is connected directly to the target by means of a transformation.
Since there is only one transformation, performance is better.
However, if you want to connect multiple DataSources with the same structure to the target, this can result in additional maintenance effort for the transformation, since you need to create a similar transformation for each DataSource.
You can avoid this if the DataSource is the same, it just appears in different source systems. In this case, you can use source system mapping when you transport to the target system so that only one transformation has to be maintained in the test system. The same transformation is created automatically for each source system in the production system.
2. Data Flow with One InfoSource
The DataSource is connected to the target by means of an InfoSource. There is one transformation between the DataSource and the InfoSource and one transformation between the InfoSource and the target.
We recommend that you use an InfoSource if you want to connect a number of different DataSources to a target and the different DataSources have the same business rules. In the transformation, you can align the format of the data in DataSource with the format of the data in the InfoSource. The required business rules are applied in the subsequent transformation between the InfoSource and the target. You can make any changes to these rules centrally in this one transformation, as required.
3. Data Flow with Two InfoSources
We recommend that you use this type of data flow if your data flow not only contains two different sources, but the data is to be written to multiple identical (or almost identical) targets. The required business rules are executed in the central transformation so that you only have to modify the one transformation in order to change the business rules. You can connect sources and targets that are independent of this transformation.

Hi Hara Pradhan,
You have to create 3 update rules by giving the 3 different infosources while creating each update rule. And u have to create the infopackages under each infosource. with this u can load the data to the same data target from multiple info sources.

While creating Update rules -"Error Info source does not exist"

While creating an update rule I am getting an error that Info source doesnot exist though the inf source is active.
here is error:
No communication structure exists in version abc... A
Message no. RSAU251
Diagnosis
In order to be able to maintain the update rules an active communication structure must be available.
Procedure
This error message can have two causes.
No active communication structure exists.
Activate the communication structure in the Data Warehousing Workbench.
No communication structure exists for the InfoSource.
Create a communication structure in the Data Warehousing Workbench for the InfoSource.

Create an info source first and assign it to your datasource and map the fileds in transfer rules and activate it.
Then try to create the update rules between your target and info source.

Please priovide me the informations
1) why info source is using in BI 7.0 while corporate memory is in the flow?
2) expert routine is using when our requirement was not satisfied with the standard rules, transformations. i want to know which routine is gud and advisable to use?
a) Start Routine or
b) End routine or
c) Trasnformation groups or
d) Expert routine
3) how do we select the DSO out of three? on which basis we want to choose and is delta is capable for all?

The only reason to use a infosource in the 7.0 dataflow, is when you want some automatic conversions for time chars to happen .. if u r deriving the same on last level(cube), you would never need a infosource in between.. even though u have it ... as others mentioned there aint gonna be any considerable performance issue coming to load performance, coz u have a additional transformation.

Info Source 80FIGL_O06 is not defined in source system

Hi BW Experts,
When I am trying load data from ODS to Cube, I am getting a error messgae stating:
Info Source 80FIGL_O06 is not defined in source system
Error in Source system
This is an urgent issue. Please let me know if you have any suggestions...

You can do this 2 ways. Right click on the ODS and say generate export datasource. The datasource will start with 8... and you can find that under Datamarts in RSA1-> Infosource. You can then create an infopackage and load from ODS through the update rules. You have the option of full load or delta load.
The other way you can go about this is again right click on the ODS and say update to data targets and just follow from there.
Did you follow the above steps? Where exactly is your problem?

How to find Info Source for Export Data source in Data Marts node

I need to load data from ODS to Info Cube. I created the Export Data source for the ODS. I can see the Export Data Source but in the Data Marts node of Info Source i cannot find the Info Source for the Export Data source i created. I replicated Data sources in the BW source system. I also tried to use Insert Lost Nodes from the Context Menu of the InfoSource node but nothing worked. Please let me know what i need to do to see the Info source in the Data Marts.

In the infosource tab in RSA1 - use settings --> display generated objects
you will be able to see the datamart infosources..

Hi,
in case you are loading the data into different targets, you can do the common coding, mapping, conversions from ds to is. Your transformations from is to target will then be easier to maintain and you only have to do some individual (data target related) stuff in there.

Hi Kumar,
DataSources include extraction source structures and transfer structures. Data is staged in the extraction source structure and the transfer structure, and transferred into the BW system by ALE or tRFC.
An InfoSource is always a quantity of Info Object that logically belong together. The structure in which these are stored is called a communication structure.
There are basically two types of InfoSources.
InfoSources with flexible updating
Info Sources with direct updating

Error when acivating Info Source

Hi
I get an error when I try to activate an info source 0TRANSTYPE. It activates fine on BW dev. Transports fine to BW QA, but gives an error on BW prod.
The error it gives me is :
u2022 Error when creating transfer structure /BIC/CCLC0TRANSTYPE_ATTR in source system 90
I did try to reactivate the DataSource on the source system.
I also replicated the DataSource in the BW system and ran RS_transtru_activate_all after the transport to our BW Production system. But no luck.
The thing is, it works fine on the Development and QA servers.
Do you have any suggestions on what else I can do?

Thanks for getting back to me.
1) Both the QA and Prod system changeability is the same( This is the only infosource that I get this message with).
2) I also did a replicate an the source is visible for that source.
3) the error I get is R1304 - Error when creating transfer structure /BIC/CCLC0TRANSTYPE_ATTR in source system 90

Allocation of Info sources to Application Component Hierarchy

Hi Friends,
I have to allocate Info sources zo other nodes of application component hierarchy as they are allocated now.
Is there a way to do this benath 'Drag and Drop' in RSA1 ?
Or can someone tell me the name of the table where this relation is stored ?

U just drag and drop the required ISs to the rquired application component hierarchy. I have no idea about the Table where it maintains the relation between the ISs and the application componet hierarchies.

Hi,
if you want to do Flexible update you can go for Infosource and in BI7 No need to create infosource, you can directly create Transofmations and DTP from the Datasource to the Infoobject( Datasource->Infoobject).
To do, Righclick on the Datasource of the infoobject,and choose create DTP. Select Target(infoboject).
This will propose automatic transformations. Save and activate transformations and DTP. Now you can schedule DTP to load the data to infoobject.
otherwise if you want to create Infosource.
1.Choose Infoprovider tab in RSA1, and choose your application component.
2.Rightclick on the App.Comp. and choose create Infosource.
3. Use your Datasource as template for the Infosource.
4. Now infosource creation screen will occur, there activate.
5. Now, rightclick on your created Infosource and choose create Transformations.
6.Select Source(by default the target will be the Infosource). Activate the transformations.
7.Now , you are having the data upto Infosource. Again choose Create Transformations on the Infosource and choose target as your Infoobject and source as your Infosource. activate it.
8. you can create DTP , by rightclick on the Ifoobject.

No PSA for Info Source

HI All,
We have the flow -
Cube- C013 to DSO- 610
Cube- C016 to DSO- 610
For that we generated Export data source from CUbe- C013 to DSO-610 and Export data source from CUbe- C016 to DSO-610.
As of now we followed the transport procedure from BI DEV to BI QAS
Collect all objects in 3.x format for 8xx objects (DS,Comm.str,IS,Tr.Rules) and transported to BI QAS.It works fine. All works normal, without doing any Replication/ RESTORE 3.X procedure Source is MS SQL using DB Connect.
I checked in BI QAS all 8xx data sources and all shows in CONTENT version BI7.0.
Issue =Problem for 8B05_C013 :
For this development:
We transported 8B05_C016 (DS,Comm.str,IS,Tr.Rules) to BI QAS and its transported and working successfully for C016 .
and
We transported 8B05_C013 (DS,Comm.str,IS,Tr.Rules) to BI QAS and shows in BI QAS as DS 3.x with the MODIFIED version and throws the below ERROR -
There is no PSA for Info Source 8B05_C013_OA and source system PBQCLNT150
Transfer structure 8B05_C013_OA NOT activated successfully Activate manually
I checked in BI DEV and BI QAS for the Data Sources 8B05_C013 and 8B05_C016, I canu2019t see any difference.
I think there is no replication needed for DB connect. If source is r/3 it requires replication.
Why it is giving problem for 8B05_C013 only?.
We implemented:
We applied Note 518426 , transported Data source objects and executed RS_TRANSTRU_ACTIVATE_ALL but no use.
The Problem still exists Data source is in MODIFIED version in BI QAS. And planning to apply The Notes 1387854 and 1479294 require - Support Packages 23 or 25.
Our Bi QAS is = BI7.0 SP18

We can't edit in BI QAS as it is a quality system.
Through transports - we transported all ACTIVE objects from BI Dev and many times we did transports. But no use.

Hi Every body,
In Bi 7.0 normally we are not create the info source.only for inventory management purpose only they are create a info source.is there only inventory they included insource in work bench is any other purpose.

Infosource: its used when you want to load data from more than 1datasource to the target(s).
and in BI7.0 you can load data from datsource direct to target only if the amount of data to be loaded is less
(option used - load data direct to target in datasource)
For huge data load Infosource - DTP is required.
