Info. that may help you or answer a few questions

Hello fellow iPod-ers!
Recently I, like many of you, updated to iTunes v.7 and iPod s-ware v.1.2. Here a few things that I have noticed that may or may not answer some questions.
With the new update on my iPod: (30GB 5gen.)
I now have gapless playback, which is the best thing to happen to MP3's since the iPod, IMHO.
I have brightness control, which I used once to lower the brightness, handy, but not a deal breaker for me.
I have "Quick Scroll" don't know if that's the official title, but a letter will show up in the middle of the screen when you are scrolling thru a long list. This has come in handy. I don't have the alphabetical search, where you can use the wheel to select letters, but I don't think I would use it anyway.
I have volume limiter, I believe this was included with s-ware update v.1.1 that was released early 2006.
I am able to import games off of iTunes, which I now play Tetris until I kill the battery
I am not sure about the improved battery life that is supposed to be a result of the s-ware, just because I haven't done a test to determine that. I just push play while I'm at work, and I've never run out of battery yet.
I haven't run into any problems thus far using my iPod with the new s-ware, thankfully. I'm not sure why so many people have.
Hope this helps if anyone was curious as to what to expect with the new updates.

Which model do you currently own? If I were going to purchase a 'new' machine, I would visit the Apple refurbished store and purchase a 15" 2012 NON-RETINA model. It's user upgradable , has USB 3.0 ports (a big plus for me) and is fairly recent. I don't know what I'll do when my machine eventually dies - I've already purchased a Windows notebook to replace it - but I don't see myself giving up on Macs entirely.
The only NEW non-Retina machine that Apple sells is the 13" model - if you can live with a 13" screen, you might want to look it over. Otherwise, I would shop for a refurb mid-2012 15" machine.
Good luck,
Clinton

  • Plz help me to answer the security question of apple id

plz help me to answer the security questions of apple id coz i have a great problem that i couldn't buy the itunes music with out using security questions.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Spinning wheel of death is killing me. Have some info that might help.

Started occurring about a week ago. It happens whether I am running several applications or just surfing internet. Seems to get progressively worse the longer I have computer on. I usually eventually have to power off. Happens regardless of which user is logged on. Started in safe mode and no difference. Ran the disk utility and Repair Disk and everything was OK. I have included the Etrecheck below. Yesterday, I got pop-up warnings that said "Your system has run out of Application Memory". I'm still relatively new to Macs, so I would appreciate any help anyone can share. Thanks!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • How to view the settings of the sequence (info that appears when you first open sequence)?

Hi I would like to ask how to view the current settings of the sequence i am already working in, the same information that appears when you first open a new sequence
    eg.
    General
    Editing mode: QuickTime DV PAL
    Timebase: 25.00fps
    Video Settings
    Frame size: 720h 576v (1.4587)
    Frame rate: 25.00 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.4587)
    Fields: Lower Field First
    Audio Settings
    Sample rate: 48000 samples/second
    Default Sequence
    Total video tracks: 3
    Master track type: Stereo
    Audio Tracks:
    Audio 1: Standard
    Audio 2: Standard
    Audio 3: Standard
I have forgotten which setting I chose for my current sequence and have tried to look under project settings and also sequence settings
but the info that you see when you first open a new sequence doesn't show, especially if the editing mode is PAL or NTSC etc.
How can I find out this information that my current sequence is on?
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply
Is there a way to see what preset I chose when i first chose the sequence? As under 'sequence settings' i don't see this info.
    e.g
    DV PAL "Widescreen 48kHz"
As i do not remember and fear it may ruin the HD video I am currently editing.
    Thanks

  • How to spit on your customer that are helping you

    Hi,
For sure, I now planning to go away from Microsoft. I have 1 IPad from many years and never lost any apps after an upgrade.
The way microsoft decide to do the windows 8.1 upgrade is:
    1. if you were kind enough to upgrade to the preview version (to help microsoft), you will loose all your applications
    2. if you decide not to help microsoft and stayed with window 8 you won`t loose your apps.
    3. Microsoft let us know that you need to upgrade by rebooting your computer every 2 hours ! (they really don`t understand what is customer care)
How could they think that punishing customer you helped them by destroying their setup will make satisfied customer ?

    Hi,
A Preview of any version of Windows consists entirely of Beta Code. This beta code must be completely removed when upgrading to the Final version.
So,while computers running Windows 8.1 Preview can be updated to the final Windows 8.1 release, this update process will only migrate the data on the device. All applications (from the Windows Store or desktop applications) will need to be reinstalled as
    part of this process.
So if we update from Windows 8.1 Preview to Windows 8.1,we need to read the following article first:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/update-from-preview

  • Someone mind answering a few questions?

I have a coupld of questions that may be kind of specific and I kind of need the answers explained in layman's terms. I'm new to Adobe video editing, so please be gentle.
I am doing a video project for school with a few friends. We shot on a Canon Optura 40 (records with tape). I got imported the footage into an AVI file and I imported that into my trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (I recently got After Effects for another project). I have edited the footage a bit and then my friend calls me. He says that he wants to edit it after I do.
So my first question is can I transfer an Adobe Premiere project (on trial version) to my friends computer (he has the full version)? Will everything be able to transfer over? Should I not edit a particular thing (effects, etc) because it won't transfer? And how would I go about doing it?
All I've done so far is cut all the actual footage together. Should I just stop and get him to edit it all? He'd be rather annoyed if he had to do it all, so I will try anything I guess. He says that I need to put it on a DVD but I don't know if that will work.
Thanks for the help in advance!

The trial version of Premiere Pro is no different from the full version (except that the trial version expires after 30 days).

  • Beat Detective Fans, I Have a Process That May Interest You.

    Hi All,
As you may have realised by now, I've been trying to obtain Beat Detective functionality in Logic for a while (not sure why because I try to use it as little as possible but, I was bored), and have posted a few different techniques to do with this matter.
I've found a way to get similar results, using Logic, and a mixture of Audio to Score, Beat Mapping and regular Quantize. Please let me know if this process works for you.
I started by taking a drum track, recorded with multiple mics. It was recorded to a click and was quite tight, but not machine like tight in the way most A&R like things now (sigh). So what I did was this, and I only investigated this briefly ok so forgive me if it doesn't work for you:
-Take the bass drum channel for this instance, could be snare, could be a mix.
    -Open up the sample editor.
-Open Audio to score, and get it to create a score/midi part from the bass drum hits and sit it on a channel nearby.
-Then using the beat mapping Global Track, analyze the midi file, NOT the audio file of the bass drum track using 1/4 bar division.
-This SHOULD create a tempo map making every 1/4 beat land on a bass drum beat.
-Select all the audio that is to be Quantized, eg Kick, Snare, Toms, Overheads, etc. And Option+Scissor cut a 1/4 beat into the region, causing Logic to cut on every 1/4 beat throughout the song.
-Now you see the drums seperated at every bass drum beat throughout the track.
-Then Lock all these regions to SMPTE, use the tempo track's alternative tempo to switch it back to the tempo the song was recorded at, in my case 130BPM. The midi and beat map will look odd now, but the audio should stay where it was and fit back the original click.
-Now you can use the event list to quantize all the regions to whatever division you want and all the channels of audio will stay in sync and maintain phase accuracy.
What I like to do then is while selecting all applicable regions roll back the left corner a little to smooth out any double attacks or gaps, and fade the lot with small (5ms-20ms) equal power fades.
You can of course create multiple midi parts from the kick, snare and whatever else and merge them before using beap mapping to trigger from more than just one channel.
Do let me know if this works for you, like I said I tried it briefly but think it should work.
    Dave

    Hi
I've been trying this method, combined with the Tab to Transient ideas on another thread, for cutting up drums that are a bit 'wobbly' and not played to a click.
I've found the simplest solution is to marquee the bass drum and snare drum tracks, tab down the song cutting on the transients (apple backslash cuts everything on the screen), skipping over the breaks to adjust later. Then locking to smpte, I highlight 8 bars or so and find the average tempo and set the grid to near that, and hard quantize the lot, or maybe verse by verse if I want to keep an eye on what's happening..
This way I have all the beats hard on the grid as a starting point, and I can play with the tempo, add midi drums easily or apply a groove template, but I can always get back to a recognizable rhythm.
Before this method, , I would cut the beats using strip silence, but the transients were inside the cut sections so they did not line up exactly to the grid which made adding midi drums difficult.
And when i tried the audio to score and make a beat map out of the midi notes then cut on the quarter notes, I still found it faster to cut on the transients than dragging the yellow lines to the beats. in fact i managed to sidestep beat mapping altogether.
    One question though,
-Then using the beat mapping Global Track, analyze the midi file, NOT the audio file of the bass drum track using 1/4 bar division.
-This SHOULD create a tempo map making every 1/4 beat land on a bass drum beat.
implies a simple button press, but I can't find it so reverted to manually doing the beat mapping similar to beat mapping audio.
Is there a fast solution to beat mapping midi or is it the same as audio?

  • Activation - This May Help You

First and foremost, remember that there are hundreds of thousands of new AT&T subscribers who have elected to "move their current phone number" over to the AT&T service. So it should be no surprise to anyone during these first few days of glitches.
Some important information when you opt to transfer your old number to this new service:
When going through the online setup you'll be asked for the billing information. This is not the credit card billing information, it is the billing information your previous Cell Phone service is using to bill you. Get a copy of your last statement and put that address in letter-for-letter. If it is all caps but it in all caps. If it says "#" instead of "APT" then put in "#".
My experience: when I enrolled in the online service through iTunes I put in the credit card billing address because that's what all online vendors ask for. I was moving from T-Mobile over to AT&T. First it denied my request altogether and told me to go into an AT&T store for a credit check. I said "be damned!" and tried it again. Still, it was a no go so I hunted for numbers and called AT&T International (1-877-800-3701).
Nice chick helped me and we went through the online information again. When I gave the billing information she asked "Is that the same billing information T-Mobile is using?" I looked at my T-Mobile bill and said - "Well, yes, somewhat. I mean, they have it all in CAPS, abbreviate street as ST, use a 9-digit Zip Code, and don't show our suite number (I run a company, my iPhone doubles as a business phone). "Try changing it to exactly as it appears in the T-Mobile billing..."
I did so and the moment I pushed the "continue" button a "ding" rang out and my OSX Mail program announced a new message. AT&T sent me an email to my Mac.com account to say "Processing Activation - We are currently processing your order. Your order number is xxxxxx.
You will receive an additional e-mail when your order is complete that will provide further instructions to activate your iPhone."
Ok. Good sign. She then said it would take some time because of the thousands of new accounts and transfer for the transfer of the number to complete, maybe as long as 24 hours.
I stood in line in the downtown Apple store for over four hours with five of my employees (ok, we took turns) so I was disappointed in the amount of time it would take to activate. There was nothing to do but wait.
Please note guys: the phone will not work any features until it is activated by AT&T. No iPod, no syncing, no nothing. This was sure to be part of the Apple/AT&T agreement (probably required by AT&T) to ensure AT&T made money on the deal.
I go to bed wake up and still no activation. Every hour I checked and no activation. As the 17th hour approached I said "enuf..." and started dialing. I found a specific phone number to check your AT&T activation on number transfers. Here it is: 1-888-898-7685
I called, explained that I was a doctor (I am!) and needed the phone activated. Again I got a nice female who checked my account and said that it was noted as activated. "Did you try turning it off then on?" "Yes, repeatedly. "Let me do some checking..." and off she went. She was gone about a minute and asked me to try turning the iPhone off and on again and to wait at least a minute before turning it back on. She waited as I did this.
Low and behold the **** thing lit up like a Christmas tree, announced it was activated and while still on the line my mail program starting dinging with "You've been activated... Welcome to AT&T... Congratulations on own your new iPhone..."
So there you go. That's my experience. As of this moment all six of our iPhones (myself and my employees) are all turned on and working. The employees had different services from Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. The slowest activations were with T-Mobile.
Opinion: I think Apple has done a tremendous job. Once the waiting line began moving at the downtown store, Apple employees shined! These guys were amazing and like clockwork they took our credit cards, handed us our phones and ushered us right out the door. They had shifts of customers coming in the door and to various cash registers upstairs and down. While in line they kept us all entertained with clowns, musicians, and the general whackos who wanted the City streets. They brought us red wagons of bottled water and thanked us profusely for being so patient.
Activation was a glitch but understandable. Once you are activated you forget the headache because the iPhone is so amazing. We have so much free WiFi here in San Francisco that the internet portion of the iPhone is incredibly fast. Everything on the iPhone works as demonstrated by Steve and the YouTube stuff is mesmerizing and oftentimes funny.
So don't give up. Hang in there. I love my iPhone!
    Tim...

AT&T has corrected the activation problems incurred by the initial onslaught of new iPhone buyers. Today activation is a pretty simple process.

  • Tip that may help

    This might help some...
I've just installed Leopard on my 1.5Ghz aluminum 15". My installation went perfectly, (took about an hour and 15 minutes) and I'm thrilled! But, observing the installation, a few things came to mind...
    • There were times when the installation toolbar seemed to "hang" at the end of a process... for example, when I watched it count down to "1 minute remaining", and then it took another 10 minutes. In my case, I simply trusted Apple, and sat and waited. That was a good choice, because it was NOT a "hang", and the installation continued fine.
    • There were also a few times when there was a blank blue screen for a few minutes. Again, I just sat and waited, and the installation completed normally.
    So?
You can imagine the results you might get if you saw these things as a "problem", and started doing hard restarts in the middle of the process. So, be patient. In my case, it paid off.
PS> *How cool is "Quick Look?!"* I do a lot of design work, where for each client, there are many "test" PhotoShop documents, HTML pages, PDFs, movies, and audio files. I cannot tell you (the Apple team) how incredibly cool it is to be able to open a BEAUTIFUL "Cover Flow" finder window, and have a look at (or listen to) ALL these files without having to open ANY those applications. It makes communicating sooooooo much better, when you can view a PhotoShop document, take a screenshot, and send it to a client, all without ever opening PhotoShop. Etc., etc. ! Awesome!
Excluding warp drive, transporters, and force fields, Leopard on a Mac is the coolest tech item I own, and the combination makes my workflow so very comfortable. Thank you, Apple!

    Excellent work.
If you still can - unmark your post as a question. Or if you edit time has expired, mark it solved.
We have all done that same thing
    Thanks

  • A Question that may not have an answer?

I'm writing a book, nearly 400 pages, and its set up in 12 documents listed under one book.   The problem I'm encountering is that I'm trying to link certain words to their definitions.   The definitions are scattered through the second document.  Is there a way to link multiple words scattered through various pages, to a specific location. Its not a foot note or end note.
Exampe.  On page 225, 228, 257, 329 is the term WYLD ONE, and I want it to link back to page 30 where the definition is.

Do you want to create links that work in interactive PDFs, so that when a reader clicks the term on any of those pages, the viewed page changes to the definition page? Or do you want to capture the definition text from page 30 and display it at the occurrences of WYLD ONE on pages 225, 228, 257, 329?
For either of these, you can use an InDesign cross-reference. Search Google for terms like "indesign cross-references," "InDesign cross-reference formats," and "indesign cross-reference building blocks," without quotes for lots of good resources.

  • After we installed a new airport extreme, the imac running snow leopard displays black box msgs saying to hold down the power button and or the reset button and then restart your computer. Can anyone provide info that can help resolve this issue?

Experiencing similar issues on both imac and power book: after replacing an original airport extreme with a new airport extreme both computers display a black box msgs that reads: "...turn off your computer by holding down the power button and or the reset button for a few seconds and then restart your computer."...
one of the printers are usb'd to the imac. The printer is not "seeing" the imac nor will it print wireless from the powerbook which was the norm prior to the upgrade on the airport extreme.
Upon restart, the imac does not "see" the wireless keyboard or the mouse until it is "found" again.
At this time the imac or the powerbook can get on line.

It sounds like your computer is getting Kernel Panics. Please look at About "You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) messages and if the message seen on your display is like the one in the link then you have confirmed you had a KP. KP's can be tough to track down because they can be caused by software or hardware. The first place to start is to post the complete crash log so we can look at it, often there are clues in the log. You can find it at:
