• [Zen Xtra] Stuck in Recovery Mode after updating Hard Dr

This is a long post, but I thank you in advance if you read it and think you have any ideas for me. Parts of this post were originally posted on the Nomadness.net forums and parts of it come from my personal email correspondence with one of the experienced users on that site.
Here goes:
I just installed a new HD on my Jukebox, and now I am unable to get it to download the Firmware (current or otherwise) and it remains in a state of rescue mode.
Here is how I posted my dilemma on the nomadness.net forums:
My computer is running Windows XP. I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB that I have had for about 2 years, and have had no problems with it, using it at least 8 hours/day 5 days/week (I run it at my desk while I work). I mention that just to give you an idea of how much regular continuous use it has been getting, if that matters. I have regularly downloaded all the latest appropriate firmware, etc. from the Creative website, using the auto updater service. I have one other Creative product connected to this computer, a SoundBlaster Audigy. This will come up again in a minute.
Over time I have accumulated so much new music that I knew I had to either get a new Jukebox or upgrade the HD. Since the Xtra is no longer available new, and upgraded ones are SO expensi've on eBay, I thought I would install a new HD myself. I read the instructions posted here on nomadness.net, and purchased an 80 GB 5400 RPM Momentus 5400.3 Ultra ATA/00 Internal Hard Dri've (that's Seagate).
Ok, now. The installation went easily enough, but now I cannot get the Firmware to reload. My computer recognizes that the unit is connected - it makes the appropriate sound when I connect or disconnect the JB, and under My Computer, there is the icon for the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra, under the "Other" category.
When I installed the HD and powered up, I got the rescue menu as expected and started with the "FORMAT ALL". I got the confirmation that it was reformatted and the expected GB of memory showed as available. SO...then I went to "RELOAD OS" and selected the "yes" option to verify that I wanted to reload via USB --BUT-- it only showed the "Start Firmware Update Now" for a second and then went right back to the menu. I have tried using the reset, and every combination of unplugging, replugging, removing the battery, putting it back in, reformatting, etc. and nothing changes. It just goes right back to the rescue menu every time.
I have the Firmware files (old and new) saved on my computer's HD, but when I try to launch any one of them, I get the same annoying message: "Your player is not connected, please connect your player". Well, if the computer thinks it's connected, then why doesn't the firmware file? I don't get it.
If I go back to the Creative auto updater on the website, it still recognizes the SB Audigy being connected, but no longer recognizes the JB.
How can I get the Firmware into the JB if I can't get it to recognize the player being connected? And why is that my computer shows it, if the Firmware file itself doesn't see it's
I received only one response that suggested I check the instructions on the Nomadness FAQs and also the great upgrade guide by Mr. Cheow, also on Nomadness.net.
This was my follow-up post:
Since I posted this earlier today, I have tried everything, and I mean everything, suggested by all of these "guides" to upgrading a hard dri've.
The problem remains that my computer recognizes the Jukebox as a portable device that is connected, but I am unable to get the Firmware file to load because it always says that my device is not connected. It should also be noted that the Nomad Explorer and other applications also will not recognize it (Notmad, JBHTTP, etc.)
Furthermore, I will add that we have two of the exact same model Jukeboxes and two of the same Dell computers running XP, etc. and in every possible combination we have tried, my Jukebox, with the new HD is the one that can not be accessed. So, I know that the connections, drivers, ports, etc. are not defecti've. The only thing that has changed since this morning is that I installed the new HD in my Jukebox.
I would love for any of you who have done this kind of upgrade to offer suggestions, as I am willing to try anything at this point.
After my last post, as a last ditch effort, my boyfriend suggested swapping the hard dri'ves in my Jukebox and his, thinking that perhaps we could get the firmware to download into his, and then switch the hard dri'ves back. Well, it looked as though it was going to work, and then the firmware update stopped almost as soon as it started and so, we are back to the same impasse. It?s the strangest thing, considering that both of us have been using our respecti've JBs daily, and have had no other problems? until I tried this.
We both racked our brains trying to think of a way we could get the firmware from the computer into the jukebox since it won?t load as long as it doesn?t recognize the player. Is there any workaround for this? By that I mean, is there any way at all to get the firmware into the Jukebox with out just launching it as a self-executing file? I know you can't just ?put? the file into the Jukebox, but is there any other means to extract it into the Jukebox so that I can use it's?
Any help you can offer would be most appreciated. I am worried that I have ruined my Jukebox and wasted $75 on a HD that I can never use?.
***Note on the Hard Dri've I chose:
I specifically chose this HD based on information posted by others on Nomadness
In particular, the newer instructions for upgrading a Zen Xtra hard dri've that were posted by an individual who used a 5400 for his own upgrade. I even emailed him with questions before I went ahead with this HD. As someone who has done this before, he felt that since this HD fits the specs of size and type being used by others doing this type of upgrade, including his own, that it would be fine. I honestly don?t think that it is the HD itself.
Since trying the swapping of HDs and Jukeboxes last night, we now have not one, but two, that are stuck in recovery mode and flash ?Firmware Problem? when rebooted. I don?t see how the HD itself could have done this. In fact, I am certain that the HD did not ?cause? the problem.
I have been reading forums about Jukeboxes (including here), anything I can find, looking for possible solutions. I have discovered that there are many people out there with the same dilemma, even those who simply updated their Firmware and nothing else, but now are stuck in the same frustrating place that I am.
***Note on the versions of the Firmware Update files I have tried:
I was going to use the newest one, but then after reading comments on Nomadness, I decided to try the older version that everyone was saying was less problematic. (see below) One of the posters had provided a link to it, and I copied it from there. I also had two other newer versions of the Firmware Update, including the newest one that has supposedly caused all the problems for others, but none of them would launch anyway ? I just kept getting that same message saying that the ?player is not connected?. Actually, to be more accurate, as I think I described in my original post on Nomadness, when I first tried to upload the firmware, it seemed as though it was going to go through with it, but never got further than one segment on the file progress display. On the screen of the player, it said it was upgrading, but after a few hours, it had gone nowhere.

If you have read this far, then please know that I appreciate it very much. If you have any further ideas or suggestions, please reply.

Amazing that someone noticed this post and took a stab at it after over a year... Actually, I found my answer long ago, and have tried to go back and post?it'son several boards where I had been looking for the answer. It seems to be such a common problem that I figure someone else can surely use this solution as I did. I would suggest that anyone?who is experiencing the frustration of not?getting their computer to recognize their device?read the very enlightening and helpful page that I am linking to here:
http://www.misticri'ver.net/forums/showthread.php?t=30939? (this is from a forum for iRi'ver, but the info and fix are uni'versal)
This simple solution involves correcting the ENUM keys in the Registry (not as scary as you might think) and deleting all instances of your player from the Device Manager and then reinstalling so that Windows and other applications will all recognize your player again. It's so simple, and once I tried it, I was amazed that's all it took to fix the problem.
?I?suggest you read the whole page and follow the instructions as they are given. I deleted and re-installed my player several times and then rebooted a couple of times before it took effect, but then it did, and I was able to download the Firmware and have had continued success with my original player that I posted about as well as others I have acquired since I first posted that message in 2006. For reasons I have not yet identified, this problem still happens every now and again, sometimes when I switch between players to synchronize. It may well be that when I use my registry cleaner or some other utility that "fixes" my registry, that it resets this particular key - but as long as it's easy to fix, it's not a problem. Hope this helps others who may stumble upon this odd little problem with the Zen Xtra.Message Edited by TrixieInDixie on -05-200709:28 PM

• Lost the install disk for my Zen Xtra 4

Can someone please help?
Thanks

I have a Zen Xtra 60GB and also have no install disk (Ok, I admit it... I sat on it) and need to install the software on a new comp.
I downloaded the three updates listed above, installed the first one then connected my player. My comp recognised the player. When I tried to install the second one I got the following error message;
'Creative MediaSource NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen Plugin requires Creative MediaSource (v3.20.57) and above to run properly. If you do not have any of these installed, please install them before running this Setup program.'
Setup will exit....yada yada
I cant immediately see on the downloads list what I should be installing to correct this.
Additional Info
Model No. DAP-HD00
Firmware: .03.02 ------ I would hazard a guess that this may need updating
My Comp: WinXP Home (fully updated) Windows Media Player 0
My thanks in advance

• Where Can I Get a Zen Xtra 60 GB Case/Pouch With Window??!!!!!!!

I've searched endlessly!
Creative does not have any in stock so I used the ''notify me when available'' option. And sadly, after writing to Creative's customer support, I was told that they don't even know when the will get more of these in stock.
Ebay may have a couple available at times, but it is rare. And when there is one listed on Ebay, there are many bidding on it. At other times, on Ebay, there may be a used one available, but the picture which the seller uses is not the actual case being sold. Hard to trust something like that, in my opinion.
The only site that I have found which offers a case for a Zen Xtra is www.vajacases.com. And although they have a window, clip, etc, and are VERY nice, I don't like the idea of paying around $80 for a case.
As we all know, iPod has several cases available for ALL of their mp3 players. It is very sad that there are no options for Creative customers. Right now I am storing the player in a generic, uni'versal, case. But this cannot protect my Zen Xtra when I need to use it because the case has to be opened in order to see the display. The odds of me breaking or scratching my Zen Xtra increase each time I have to remove it from it's case. And this is a result of there being no cases available.
Does anyone know of a case, silicon skin, or pouch that can be used with a Zen Xtra 60 GB? Or perhaps someone may know of an iPod or PDA case which could be used for the Zen Xtra?
This is frustrating and unbelievable to me. iPod users have an endless supply and variety to choose from while I've only found two options for loyal Creative Zen Xtra customers: . Wait and see if/when Creative has more cases available. 2. Pay nearly half of what my player cost for a vaja case.
Any help/info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.

i agree that it's rather annoying that it should be that hard to find a case....i like to keep all my gear secure and protected....i've been looking too....sorry i can't tell you anything you don't already know....yeah the vaja case looks really nice but way too much money...i figure our best bet is to try to get the creative one on ebay, hopefully...

• (Zen Xtra) Files aren't copying properly, I can't figure out how to fix th

I got my Zen Xtra 60 GB a few days ago, and I love it, but there's one thing that's pissing me off. I copy an album/folder over to my MP3 player, and I don't get any error messages, but when I go to the album on my MP3 player, it turns out that only a few of the songs copied. No matter how much I try, the songs just won't copy. These are all MP3s. Why is this, and what can I do about it's

Are your original album files from store-bought CD's or did you download them off the internet? (Don't worry - I'm not gonna turn you in). If you downloaded them like I did (once), the files are often mislabeled and generally screwed-up. When I thought I put all my Engelbert Humperdinck songs in "The Greatest Hits" album, not all of them played until I labeled ALL with the proper artist, album, genre and then gave each a unique track number (don't use zero as a track #). Now they all work fine. It's a major pain going through all one's music to do this but it's worth it.
But if you ripped legitimate CD's to MP3 and your albums still don't play, I can't help you. They have all the proper info already on each track.

• Zen Xtra problem with latest firmw

Hi everyone. I've tried searching for this but I can't find the answer.
I've recently upgraded my Zen Xtra 60gb to the latest firmware on the Creative Labs downloads page (2.0.03). Re-copied all my music back onto it and some of the albums which were fine before now play out of order.
All my music is correctly tagged with track number information and when I view the files using the new Zen Explorer addin the tracks are all present with the track number prefixed by the filename. But on some albums when I right click and choose properties there is no track number stored.
How can I fix this? Is it the way I transfered my music onto the player (I just copied the folders using explorer to the 'My Music' folder on the Zen)? Or is this a 'feature' designed to get me to change my mp3 player?

I'm not sure why some files lost thier tag info. But I'll tell you this, adding tag information through Media Scource does not wirte to the actual file.
And when you export files from Media Source, you have configure it a certain way to add the tag info to the files while its exporting.
Zen Explorer may be the sameway, so check that.
Theres a program called Tag&Rename, it can correctly Tag mp3 in batch. I think the free version is like a 4 or 30 trial but it should be long enough just to get your job done.

• Zen xtra recording from line

hi,I have been loading my new
nomad Zen Xtra with my CD collection, going great once I got the hang of it {novice here} now I would like to load onto the `Zen` my old tape collection, this is where I am having a big problem,I make connection as follows
---plug into the ear phone jack socket of my tape player
--plug the other end into line in on the PC
--set the recorder going.........timer works
--can hear music through the speakers......appears to go my music ect........
-- when I sellect play back ...there is nothing.. no sound although the play slider moves
--tried different players....all the same
--does any one know what I am doing wrong ?
--has any one had same probs?
I am using Creative Media sorce organizer to do the transfer
frustrated Ron...................

hi every body, thanks for all the advice:--------------
the problem was the player that I was using to send to pc did not have a strong enough signal for the pc to reconise, athough I could hear it ok on the head phones, and also on the pc speakers, the recorder could not "hear it "tried other leads no good
then I used my large radio cassett player and it worked,
so I`m happily transfering my cassett music to the Zen,what a task the tagging is.
This will be repeated when I do my old L.P collection,we don`t know how lucky we are with the CD with all the info on.

• Nomad Xtra, Zen Micro, and Zen To

I'm your typical money-starved college student and need to find the best sounding mp3 player for as less cash as possible. I have about 800-,000 songs from my cds that I would want to store, and would like to add some other songs from Kazaalite and Limewire. Is converting shared P2P mp3s and such going to be a problem(28-92KBps)? As it stands, I'm deciding on the Nomad Xtra 30GB($90), the Zen Touch($220), or the Zen Micro($220). First of all, I was wondering if the sound quality of any of these three players is necessarily better than the other two. That's my biggest concern. I also realize that the Zen Micro has the least amount of storage available, but the recorder, better quality in-box earbuds, fm tuner, and extra replaceable battery are advantages. It seems like this would save me the most money in the long run. With that in mind, Is swapping out play lists that are stored on my computer a reasonable way to compensate for the lack of storage on the Micro? Or would that be frustrating and should I just go with more storage? I would also like to know if any of these models are compatable with cassette or fm car transmitters, and does that actually work well? And finally, can the Nomad Xtra and Zen Touch comfortably fit into a pocket? Based on all of this, which would you reccomend for me since it will be my only mp3 player?
Also, is the Zen Touch's sealed battery an issue to consider? I'm not planning on buying another mp3 player for a while, and I would hate to have a battery die on me just a couple years after it's purchase and render my mp3 player a $200+ paperweight. Is there any sort of Apple-like battery refurbishing survace for the Zen Touch?
Message Edited by Nova on 0-09-2005 09:55 PM

.) Q: Is converting shared P2P mp3s and such going to be a problem (28-92KBps)?
A: You don't have to convert any files to upload them to either the Xtra, Touch, or Micro. You can play pretty much any bitrate mp3, wma, and wav files.
2.) Q: I was wondering if the sound quality of any of these three players is necessarily better than the other two.
A: Not really. Based on everyone's reviews around here, they all sound the same. Each player has a custom equalizer for personal settings too (more bass/less treble, etc).
3.) Q: Is swapping out play lists that are stored on my computer a reasonable way to compensate for the lack of storage on the Micro?
A: To do that, you'd have to remove certain files then upload other ones. There's a synchronize option which could be used to do this a little easier. But it's not as easy as taking music database A on the MP3 player and replacing it with music database B from your computer.
4.) Q: Are any of these models compatable with cassette or fm car transmitters, and does that actually work well?
A: Yes, check out the Creative MP3 player accessories section for more info.
5.) Q: And finally, can the Nomad Xtra and Zen Touch comfortably fit into a pocket?
A: My Zen Xtra fits into every one of my pants' pockets. The Zen Touch is smaller than the Zen Xtra, so I would say that it would fit into your pocket even easier.
6.) Q: Based on all of this, which would you reccomend for me since it will be my only mp3 player?
A: Let the customers decide that for you. Check out the reviews in this thread
Hope this helps in your decision! If I were you I would probably go with the Zen Micro.

• Packaging Xtra for Shockwave download

A few questions regarding packaging an xtra for Shockwave:
I have created a Windows scripting Xtra that is
Shockwave-safe - works fine if manually placed into the local cache
for downloaded xtras (...\Documents and Settings\...\Application
Data\...\Shockwave Player\xtras\...."). I would like to make our
Shockwave application pick up the xtra from our web server. I
understand that xtras can be made for automatic download, but am
not clear on the details of how you do this, and have struggled to
get anything detailed from my web searches. The questions:
1) do I need the "Xtra Packaging Kit"?
2) where do I get the above? (was looking at previous thread
on this - the product doesn't seem to exist anymore) Is it part of
the forthcoming Director release?
3) would it suffice to make the application manually download
the xtra (and is this possible)?
4) does the packaging kit also deal with digital
certification, or is this down to me to sort separately?
Kind regards,
Sam

Hi Sam,
A few people have asked about the Director Xtras Packaging
Kit and I followed up
the question with Adobe.
The XPK was taken off the online store as Adobe transitioned
Director and
Shockwave from a Macromedia product to Adobe. The transition
to Adobe has taken
longer than expected because of things like neglect from
Macromedia, old codebase,
new Operating Systems... From my understanding, once the new
XDK is fully updated
to be compatible with all OS's, it will make its way back
onto the site. This will
likely correspond to the release of the next version of Adobe
Director 11.
Adobe should be giving some public info soon on Director 11.

• Zen Xtra Hard Dr

I have a 60 gig Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra thats out of warranty. I've already searched but didn't get my answers.
Questions:
A. Is there any way of getting data off a crashed harddri've (i think the pins crashed) I know I can send it to a data recoverist. How much should I expect to spend
B. How much am I looking to replace the harddri've. Is it something I can do myself? Anyone have a part number of the harddri've before I go and open it up?
C. Can I put a bigger hard dri've in there?
D. Do I spend my money getting a new dri've for this and dealing with an outdated, huge player, or update to a more modern (thinking zen vision:m or my brothers Toshiba 40 gig for $200) player that will have less room
E. I backed up my collecting about a year ago on my parents computer. Since then I reformatted the computer. I tried PC Inspector File Recovery. I'm not familiar with the program and spent about 30 min tinkering with it. I wasn't able to find it. Any other suggestions that I can try
The story:
I was shutting down my Zen Xtra 60 gig the other day after biking and dropped it from waist high onto carpet. Since then, it hasen't worked. It goes to the recovery screen every time it starts up. I hear it clicking when I start up, so I did what was mentioned in other posts. I tried shaking it powered off, nothing happened. I tried tapping it on the side, still no go. I'm pissed cause I've been waiting for this to happen. The player felt like it would fall out of my pocket when I was riding my bike and i was waiting to lose everything before I backe it up. I'm not able to back it up to my laptop cause I only have a 30 gig. I had 50 gigs worth of music. My 200 gig external is filled with images of dvds waiting to be copied, back ups, and data from my computer while I was reformatting. It's no excuse and I'm kicking my own ass for it.
Most of my music isn't too much of big deal. I was just getting discographys and didn't listen to some of the stuff. A bunch of it I have on cds so it would just be a matter of ripping them. I've already found most the music I can't go without. It's the rare, hard to find, demos, and li've shows that took years to get that I miss the most. Is there any way I can try getting the data off myself? My brother has a cable that you can hook a laptop hardri've up to a USB, any software I should try, or is it useless since the pin crashed into the dri've?
What type of hard dri've is in the player. Is it something I can replace myself? The warranty is already up. Can I put a bigger on in there?
I'm trying to decide whether I want to fix this with a new hard dri've or get a new player. A new player with all the bells and whistles sounds good, but I probably won't use it. I almost always have my laptop or PSP when I'm traveling. I've read a bunch of great reviews of the vision:m, but I don't know whether its worth spending 300$ and getting half the memory I'm used to. My brother is jsut going to return his 40 gig Toshiba gigabeat so I could get that from him for $200. He didn't use it too much so he couldn't give me a review, and I read a bunch of mixed reviews about it online.
I backed up my music collection on my parents computer last year. Since then I've reformmated it. the dri've was partitioned, with one of the dri'ves containing all the info to reformat. There was a virus on it, so I reset it back like when we first got it. I tried using that PC Inspector File Recovery (free on download.com) but I wasnt too familiar with it. I messed around with it for like 30 min but want able to find it. Anyone know of any other programs I can try?
Thanks for your help and for reading the novel

The sales person was supposed to tell you that MP3 players with hard disk dri'ves (HDDs) are not supposed to be used when the activity level goes above "brisk walk." There are two moving parts in an HDD: the spindle motor (SPM) & the voice coil motor (VCM). If the shock sensor during the fall didn't kick in, the VCM might have crashed onto the SPM & got stuck rather than being retracted away from the SPM surface. If this is the case, I'm afraid that your HDD is history. The date can be recovered, but it costs a lot of money.
As an engineer who designs chips for the HDDs, I back up my crucial data to a DVD at least once a month as I know the HDDs a bit too well!

• Zen Sleek Photo, Zen Xtra, and Vi

I know I?ve posted about this before, but new folks visit here every day, and the information contained in these posts can get buried after just a few days. If the moderators wish, they can remove any earlier posts that I have put up here on this board.
This concerns problems with Vista and the Zen Sleek Photo mp3 player. The Zen software is not compatible and won?t install.
After receiving some information from ?Creative, and after some further experimenting on my own, I have put together a procedure that will, in fact, do a full install of the Zen Sleek Photo on a machine running Vista.
I have also discovered that this installation procedure also works for my Nomad Zen Xtra ? an unexpected bonus!
It worked for me, and I have received feedback from several dozen people already who have used this procedure with 00% success, so I know that it works!? I am currently getting three or four requests daily for this, and most have been kind enough to follow up and let me know that it solved their problem.
I will send this info, in Word document form, to anyone who requests it. Just email me at:

Dave, I tried to send email to ">[email protected]?but it's bouncing back. Can you pl post your correct ID? I'd like to get the procedure for Zen Sleek Photo Installation on Vista. Thanks?

• Nomad Zen Xtra - 60G - Major Issues

I bought the Zen Xtra for my husband for his b-day last April (2004). Over the summer the Zen Xtra worked well and transfer of 307 tracks of songs was successful. Then, in the fall we decided to try setting up playlists through the Creative MediaSource software. Since then we have had numerous problems with the machine. First of all, when trying to create a playlist, the Xtra froze. We've since gone through the motions of (a) upgrading all the software/firmware we could and (b) rebooted and done a disk cleanup.
Unfortunately this has NOT solved our problem. Yes - we are now able to use the Zen Xtra for listening to the tracks we already have on the machine, but everytime we connect it to the computer and try to either add new tracks, (We aren't even able to do an AudioSync! The error we get is :"Unable to read file. File may be in use, missing or corrupted". Of course this is not the case because we are able to listen to the song from the Zen Xtra.) listen to a track (through the xtra on the computer), (the error we get here is : "Unable to playback current track. The audo device may not be available or the file may be missing or corruped.") or try to create a playlist (The error here is: The operation failed. Ensure player is properly connected before trying again.")
In each of these cases, the Zen Xtra freezes up and we have to go through the whole process again just to get the stupid thing to play songs so we can listen to them. We are very disappointed that we are not able to use the Zen Xtra to its full capablities. What are we missing? How can we get it to work as it's is supposed to through the software on the computer?

Thanks Cat for the info. I've managed to get all my files from the Xtra over to my PC.
I am still experiencing the following by the Zen Xtra:
A) if the machine is shut off for longer than a day, it takes from 25-30mins to turn on. It gets "stuck" at the EAX screen
B) I am still unable to create a playlist on through the Media Centre. Everytime I try, it says that the Zen Xtra is not connected and then my Zen gets "stuck" forcing me to do a manual reboot of it.
I believe this to be a software problem, but that's not to say that I'm not totally disappointed that I'm unable to use my Zen to its full potential. (And manually rebooting and/or waiting for 25-30min to listen to my Zen isn't fun either.) Does this SOUND like a simple software issue or is it more? (Remember my warranty will run out soon)
If it IS a software issue is there any OTHER software out there that I would be able to use to appreciate my Zen to its fullest?
Thanks again.J

• Zen Xtra: Compatible FM Tu

Hey,
I've just bought myself a Zen Xtra 60GB and was pretty dissapointed to find out that the wired remote and FM Tuner is not compatible with my player (especially considering the sales person had said it was). From other posts in the forum, it doesn't sound as though Creative make an FM Tuner that is compatible with the Zen Xtra, so what I'm wondering, is if there are other FM Tuners out there that will work with the Zen Xtra? I'm new to the forum, so dont know if it's ok to post this kind of info here.
Also, seeing as there is a 'car' profile on the Zen Xtra, I assume you can use a car kit tape to play it through your car stereo. I'm also new to mp3 players and stuff, so can anyone tell me if any car kit can be used, or is it make specific?
Thanks!

No compatible FM tuner that I'm aware of. You can find the car kit at their online store.

• Adding xtras in Dir 11.5.9

In previous versions of Director, all I had to do to "install" a new xtra was copy and paste it into the Director application's Xtras folder.  I'm currently attempting to "add" an xtra that way to a project.  Yet, when I click Add, the xtra doesn't show up in the list, even though it is in the Director application's Xtras folder.  Am I missing something?
I have tried just copying and pasting the xtra into the Xtras folder in my project folder.  But the projector can't find it.  This also happens to be an xtra that needs to be included in the projector, and I published the projector with the "Include in Projector" box checked.  Nevertheless, it can't find it.
Thanks for whatever info you can provide.

Or, does that error indicate that the xtra simply is not compatible with Lion.  That is my fear.  Apple really threw the Director community a curve when they developed Lion.
If Director still was in the hands of Macromedia, they would have worked closely with Apple, just as they did with Microsoft, to help keep Director compatible with new versions of operating systems.  I have been writing Director programs on both platforms for 18+ years, and have always been able to rely on Macromedia to keep Director in line with new operating system platforms.  That may no long be the case now that Adobe has taken over and is treating Director like an unwanted stepchild.
With a large captive audience, and no direct competition, it just amazes me that a company that size is showing such nonchalance with Director.  The product is there, the market is already in place, the customer base is eager to support ongoing product development by Adobe, the product is certainly priced as a high-end product, they don’t have to do extensive promotion or even advertising.  It’s just “free money” and they are gazing off in another direction as if it is nothing more than a nuisance.  I just don’t get it.
Nevertheless, I fear that a number of tools we have been relying on, such as xtras, as well as Director itself may be have been dealt another blow by Apple.
A statement for Adobe:  “When you buy out a company, you also acquire their customer base.  That comes with a certain responsibility to support them because a customer base is the only thing that keeps a company in business.”
A question for Adobe:  “Director users/developers are a huge part of your customer base.  Who’s going to save us this time?”

• Looking for Xtra for MySql

Hi everybody!
I need to find an xtra to communicate with an MySql database
sitting on a
web server. The application will also be running on the same
server on the
Internet (Shockwave)
Any suggestions for an Xtra? I have tried several but none of
them seem to
be Shockwave safe.
Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

About 30-45 seconds vs immediate when I use the command from
the address
bar... that is why I thought I was doing something wrong in
regards to how I
was calling it and getting the info back to Director....
