InfoObject definition : characteristic as BW or APO ?

Hello
I have some characteristics defined in APO BW that I need to maintain.
I would like to know if there is a way to know if a current one has been defined as APO or BW one ?
thanks

I don't understand your question : you are looking for a characteristic in a BW system ? (Note : APO is based on a BW)

  • Managing characteristic value combinations in APO DP

I am using APO DP V5.
I have two questions regarding characteristic value combinations (CVCs) in APO DP:
    1. Suppose I am planning with planning characteristics of product and customer. I have existing CVCs of product 1 at customer A, and product 2 at customer B. Suppose I have new sales history data in a Cube for a 'new' CVC product 1 at customer B. I assume that if I try and load from the Cube to the planning area then system will object because CVC does not exist? And so I should <u>first</u> generate CVC from the Cube.
    2. Suppose I want to plan for new CVCs, for which there is <u>no</u> sales history available.
Looking at transaction /SAPAPO/MC62, I could follow options of:
    (a) generate CVCs from a 'dummy Cube' which I load from a spreadsheet
    (b) load from a 'file' (eg tab delimited)
    My questions:
2a. Which option is best practice? The 'file' option looks simpler
2b. For the 'dummy Cube' option, what fields are required - is it just the planning characteristics, eg product, customer in my example, and planning version. Does one have to include a 'dummy' key figure as well?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Bob Austin

    Hi Bob,
The Somnath and Harish answered your first two questions. Regarding the characteristics that you need to have in your "dummy cube", the simple rule isyour Planning Object Structure has to be a subset of "dummy cube" or the dummy cube should have all the characteristics in your Planning Object Structure and can have more..
The key figure is irrelevant for CVCs as they are only master data. But the CVCs are only those combinations that have a transaction data value. Let me explain this with example: your dummy cube has the following data
    Cust---Div-SalesOrg-Company-qty.----no.of records
    PA----01---LAALT20--
    5
    GB----02---MGOLR50--
    2
    MD----05---RIPIL10--
    1
    PA----02---LAALT20--
    6
    MI----01---LAPLM20--
    7
    PA----01---LAALT20--
    2
    Your planning Object Structure has
    customer, division and company
When you reference the dummy cube and create CVCs, here is the list
    Cust---Div---Company
    PA----01-----ALT
    GB----02-----OLR
    MD----05-----PIL
    PA----02-----ALT
    MI----01-----PLM
    PLease
Observe that the dummycube is a superset of your Planning Object Structure and the CVCs are generated for only those possible combinations of characteristics in Planning Object Structure that have a transaction data value in your dummy cube.
Please feel free to comment or ask questions.
    Thanks.

  • DYNPRO_WRITE_FAILED on every InfoObject, InfoCube, Characteristic, DSO

I met a fatal error: DYNPRO_WRITE_FAILED when I use "Display Data" function on any InfoObject or InfoCube or DSO or characteristic in my InfoArea. I use sm50, sm51 to see that server always has 3 pink error process running (1 is DIA, 2 are BGD).
Some online article mentions that DYNPRO_WRITE_FAILED might be related to memory, buffer issues. And I use st22 to view the application failure log. It told me to terminate the ABAP program with ID: "GPDAV......"
I enter running process screen via sm50, and use "cancel without core", or "end session" or "cancel program". But whatever I tried, those 3 process keep in pink error status.
Can anyone help me out. How can I clean up those error processes on the server to avoid this DYNPRO_WRITE_FAILED error?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi, Suman
    Thanks for your suggestion.
I use DB02 to see the Database overview. Totally 80GB space, 71% is used. Looks like 16GB free space are good. In fact, I am not sure it is memory issue or not.
I use st11 to get the dev_w1 log, there is one section describes the DYNPRO_WRITE_FAILED error information. But I can not figure out what that means. Could you please take look my log to see what is the better solution to avoid this DYNPRO_WRITE_FAILED error. Because the result of DTP, transform result are all in green status in the monitor screen. But when I choose "Display Data" menu item, then the following errors occur:

  • Infoobject Definition

While creating a cutom infoobject as Characteristics, I came across this. ANy guidance on this would be appreciated.
In the "Business Explorer" tab, "Query Def. Filter Value Selection", there are two options - Only Values in Infoprovider" and "Values in Master Data Table".
Which option to use under what circumstances?
    Thanks
    Raj

    Hello Raj from sap help:
This field describes how the selection of filter values and the restriction of characteristics functions when you define queries.
The values from the master data table are normally displayed when you restrict characteristics.
For characteristics without a master data table, the values from the SID table are displayed instead. In a number of cases, however, it could be better to display only the values that are in the InfoProvider. The setting "InfoProvider Values Only" is permitted for this reason.

  • Data selection for Characteristic Selection in BW query

    Hi,
We have BW query where Run Day is Characteristic field
once we execute the query Data in Runday selection is coming from Dimension table.
But we want this runday selection values to populate from Runday of fact table.as Runday in fact date has less number of values.Any help is highly appreciable.
    Thanks
    Sudhakar.

    Hi Raghavendra.
    Thanks for your reply.
    You solved my problem 99%
I tried RSRV option, I gave Infocube and Dimension it is just giving Number of entries which are not there in Infocube but it is not deleting the unused data.
Please let me know what should I do to delete unused data in Infoobject..
Also you gave another option in infoobject definition under Business explorer to select "only Values in Infoprovider"
for Query def and Query Execution Filter value Selection.
We can use any one, right?  (Either Deletion from infoobject or check the option in Bus Ex)
    Thanks
    Sudhakar.

Transport is working fine in Quality, only in Production I am getting error.
I haven't yet started pulling data in production.
    Please help. Its urgent.
    Thanks

Look at master data table related to your IO in se11 transaction.
Check if the data element for your 0material field is active.
<i>Check the data element in ABAP Dictionary. Activate data element there, and, if necessary, check the activation log.</i>

  • FOR BACKUP FROM PA TO CUBE IN APO 5.0

    HELLO FRIENDS,
I HAVE A SMALL QUERY ,HOW TO LOAD DATA FROM PA TO CUBE
1.CREATE DATA SOURCE IN PLANNING AREA SECEEN
    2.CREATE INFO PACKAGE
    3.CREATE INFO CUBE
    4. CREATE TRANSFORMATION
    5. DPT DATA TRANSFORMATION PROCESS
THESE STEPS I HAVE CREATED BUT IAM NOT ABLE TO GET THE DATA TO CUBE FOR BACK UP PURPOSE. I AM WRONG PL CORRECT ME ,GIVE ME UR SUGGSIONS.

    Sivaram,
Something I found in a BI thread:
    1. The data flow is from BW to APO, and from APO to BW.
from bw to apo, to feed planning area, characteristic value combination, in APO we have infocube to feed the data, as we know APO has BW inside (all the tcodes RSA1 etc are valid), datamart scenario is used here, we create infocube in APO, update rules, infosource and assign datasource from BW.
The data flow from APO to BW, to get the plan data inputted by user, we generate datasource in APO from planning area (compare with 'generate export datasource' from infocube), transaction /SAPAPO/SDP_EXTR. 'extractor technology' here in practice is just like when we are using datasource

    2. as mentioned in #1, you can use the transaction /SAPAPO//SAPAPO/SDP_EXTR to handle planning area-datasources in APO, or /SAPAPO/MSDP_ADMIN - planning area; choose your planning area, and menu extractor tools (or generate datasources), again datamart scenario is used here, after the datasource generated in APO, it's replicated in BW (APO act as source system), the rest steps are just same as when extract data from other SAP source system
simply what you need to practice is /SAPAPO/SDP_EXTR to 'generate export datasource',

  • CIF integration of characteristics that were deleted at APO

    Hi Experts,
we had some characteristics in APO that were transfered from the ECC. But since it was no longer used they were deleted at the APO system. But now we need to use againd some of these characteristics, and when we try to integrate this characteristic they stopped at the APO inbond queue whith the message "master data missing for characteristic &&".
I checked the table TCL_ATINN_IDENT in APO and the characteristics that were deleted in the past are still there but with an internal number at the field ATINN_NEW.
Does anyone knows how can we proced with this issue?
Is there any report to clean this data in the table?
    thanks in advance
    Thiago Cyrillo

Ok, I"ll try to explain this issue.
    1 - We had a class (type 300) with some characteristics in ECC that were integrated with APO;
    2 - When this class (type 300 and 400 in APO) and characteristcs were not used anymore in APO, they were deleted (classes and characteristics);
3 - But today we need to use these characteristic again.
    4 - We have some classes (type 300) that is integrated with APO. These classes has the organizational Area M that is created in ECC and APO;
    5 - Those characteristics that were deleted from APO, is now in attributed at the new classes that are integrated with APO;
    6 - To Integrate those characteristic we put the organizational area M in them at the related classes;
7 - After that those characterist stop at the APO (inboud Queue SMQ2).
Let me know if you could replicate the issue
    thanks and Best Regards

  • Descrition of InfoObject

    Hi all;
Ok, I have this 'z_proj' InfoObject. when I created this InfoObject..I have enter the long description and short description. because of the length more than 20 char..the short description ..I have put it Abbreviation but the under the master data/texts tab I have checked in medium length texts exits.
The issues I have is: when I ran the report, the short abbreviated description is coming..; how do I take care of this issue? in other word, how do I get the long description I have in for that InfoObject in my report. please help me.
    thanks/

    Hi!
in the Infoobject definition RSA1->infoobject change-> 2nd tab Bex explorer properties change the text property to disply long text.

  • InfoObject

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone let me know, how can I change the char length of an Infoobject.
I have requirement that, im getting a 6 char length from source, but in BW I have only 4 char defined for the Infoobject.
    Thanks,
    ND.

    ND,
You can do that in the infoobject definition. After changing the length it will not get activated but will give you error. You go to SE14 and give the associated tables for that IO and click on adjust and activate db table. You have option to adjust with data also.
Later it will allow you to activate the IO.

  • APO objets in BW

    Hi,
I want to have a APO Object in BW system.
The APO Object is 9ALOCNO but i could not see this objects in my BW.Since this being a APO info objects i could not find. Please tell me now to load these infoobject 9* info objects into my BW sytem.
    Kindly reply for this message.
    Regards,
    sid

    Hi,
All the APO related Business Content InfoObjects start with 9A and also BW related Business Content InfoObjects start with 0 . Since APO itself has a BW instance in it , if ur doubt is related to BW instance in APO then u can always use that object in the Cubes or ODS's . But if u are working on Separate BW Instance then u need to either create same infoObject which is similar to 9ALOCNO in BW and Map to it while extraction or find in Business Content whether there is any InfoObject in BW which matches 9ALOCNO.
    Regards,
    Vijay.

  • Characteristic is blocked by conversion (status 4)

    Dear all,
There is a infoobject had many nav attributes, and much data in master data table.
And then,i change nav attributes from time-dependent to notime-dependent.
when i active it, there was error, and is blocked by conversion.
So, status of the char is inactive, not executable.
I Delete lock in SM12 ,and it didn't help. Locks appear again.
    error message shows the following:
    Internal Activation (InfoObject )
Preprocessing / Creation of DDIC Objects for InfoObject ZCO_ELMNT
Characteristic ZCO_ELMNT : Converting the Master Data Tables
Table /BIC/PZCO_ELMNT: Error in creating index 0 (2)
Resetting of Incorrect Objects Back to the Active Version (InfoObject )
Preprocessing / Creation of DDIC Objects for InfoObject ZCO_ELMNT
Characteristic ZCO_ELMNT is blocked by conversion
How to active the IO,or delete the block from IO?
    Best regards,
    Plato

I was facing this problem in bi 7.0 . the object can be unlocked by using TCODE RSA1OLD.
    Go to RSA1OLD.
    Double click on the object.
then from menu, choose EXTRAS->REMOVE CONVERSION LOCK.
This will remove the lock and will allow you to change the object.
Change, save and activate the object. (You can skip this and can do from RSA1 also, just remove lock in this case)
Change and save the object from here and come out of your all transactions. (Log Off from system)
Now, as you have changed the object from RSA1OLD T-Code , it might not be type compatible for RSA1.
So, go to RSA1, you will find that object unlocked. Change the same object (For sake of formality) and save and activate the object.
This will create the active version of object in RSA1.
    Your problem is solved now.
Hope this will work for you.

  • Number range missing for characteristic 0AF_SEAN after importing request

    Hii friends,
I m facing one problem while transporting request from development to quality , the request contains info object 0MATERIAL in which i have added new attribute 0AF_SEAN.
Then error which i m getting is ,
Number range interval for characteristic 0AF_SEAN is missing
    Error when activating InfoObject 0MATERIAL
Characteristic 0MATERIAL: Error when generating master data routines
Error when resetting InfoObject 0MATERIAL to the active version
I am waiting for ur positive reply.
    Thanks & Regds,
    Kavan Shah

    hi Kavan,
    try
transaction rsrv ? >> all elementry tests >> master data >> compare number range and maximum sid >> execute. press button 'correct error' if any error exists
Error calling number range object 0MATERIAL for dimension D4 ( )
or check oss note 903291 ?
    Manual solution
Get the name of the number range object from the error message shown above, for example, RS_OBJNUMG. Start Transaction SNRO. To display the intervals, use the number range function key and enter the name of the number range object as the object name. Change the intervals. The following from-numbers and to-numbers apply:
    - RS_OBJNUMG: 0000001 - 9999000
    - RSDDAGCUBE: 100000 - 199999
    - RSSBRAUTH: 00000001 - 99999999

  • APO/BW: How to get back from APO to BW/ How the send data from BW to APO

    Hi,
    1. I read that BW is the “data layer” for APO DP and therefore, I expected data to flow from BW, the data layer, to APO DP but not the reverse. Yet, I also read that “data can be transferred from ‘Livecache’ back to BW by using the ‘extractor technology’ from BW. Can you clarify this for me?
    2. If possible, please provide the steps to use this extractor technology to extract data back to BW in detail so that I can try it.
    Thanks

    Hi Amanda,

  • Creating InfoObjects-Characteristics

PLease search the forums before posting
    Hi,
can anyone explain how to create infoobject characterstics??
    Regards,
    Vivek
Edited by: Arun Varadarajan on Feb 11, 2009 2:43 PM

    Hi Vivek,
In RSA1-> under Infoobjects -> under Infoarea (like Supply chain management), you can create your own Infoarea, under that two catalogs needs to be created one for charecteristics and another for Keyfigures.
under Charectertics Infoobject catalogs -> right Create infoobject-> you can create -> new one with complete new properties or use template or refernce infoobjects.
Characteristic infoobjects can be of typesm Char, Number, time and date.
for more information look for SAP help.
