Infoobject Definition

While creating a cutom infoobject as Characteristics, I came across this. ANy guidance on this would be appreciated.
In the "Business Explorer" tab, "Query Def. Filter Value Selection", there are two options - Only Values in Infoprovider" and "Values in Master Data Table".
Which option to use under what circumstances?

Hello Raj from sap help:
This field describes how the selection of filter values and the restriction of characteristics functions when you define queries.
The values from the master data table are normally displayed when you restrict characteristics.
For characteristics without a master data table, the values from the SID table are displayed instead. In a number of cases, however, it could be better to display only the values that are in the InfoProvider. The setting "InfoProvider Values Only" is permitted for this reason.

I don't understand your question : you are looking for a characteristic in a BW system ? (Note : APO is based on a BW)

Descrition of InfoObject

Hi all;
Ok, I have this 'z_proj' InfoObject. when I created this InfoObject..I have enter the long description and short description. because of the length more than 20 char..the short description ..I have put it Abbreviation but the under the master data/texts tab I have checked in medium length texts exits.
The issues I have is: when I ran the report, the short abbreviated description is coming..; how do I take care of this issue? in other word, how do I get the long description I have in for that InfoObject in my report. please help me.

in the Infoobject definition RSA1->infoobject change-> 2nd tab Bex explorer properties change the text property to disply long text.

Hi Gurus,
Can anyone let me know, how can I change the char length of an Infoobject.
I have requirement that, im getting a 6 char length from source, but in BW I have only 4 char defined for the Infoobject.

ND,
You can do that in the infoobject definition. After changing the length it will not get activated but will give you error. You go to SE14 and give the associated tables for that IO and click on adjust and activate db table. You have option to adjust with data also.
Later it will allow you to activate the IO.

Depending on the infoobject definition, the tables are created at the time of master data activation:
/BI<C OR DIGIT>/<TABLE CODE><INFOOBJECT>
<C or digit>: C = Customer-defined InfoObjects
digit = SAP-defined InfoObjects
<table code>: S = SID table
T = Text table
P = Time-independent master data attributes
Q = Time-dependent master data attributes
M = Union of time-dependent and time-independent master
data attributes
X = SID table for time-independent navigational attributes
Y = SID table for time-dependent navigational attributes
H = Hierarchy table
K = Hierarchy SID table
I = Hierarchy SID structure table
J = Hierarchy interval table
<InfoObject>: The name of the InfoObject without leading digits (if any)

What are the precautions and steps to be followed if we need to enhance a standard datasource or customize a query which were already been moved to Production.
What is a reference characteristic and what are its uses apart form the option we have in InfoObject definition dialog.
Any help would be highly appreciable and points will be awarded accordingly.

Hi Raju,
These questions are answered in the forums before. Do a quick search.
You can create and edit queries even in Production so no need of transports for queries.
If you enhance a datasource, you need to replicate it. Make sure there are no dependencies on the datasource. Usually if you are just adding fields to a datasource, should not cause issues.
Reeference characteristics are used to create infoobjects similar in properties to existing characteristics.

F4 help for custome field

Dear All,
I have created one 'Z' InfoObject for some characteristic and i am using the same in mandatory selection parameter for query also. Now this query run monthly only and accordingly data will be loaded and manipulated. So when i choose F4 for that Z field it will show data only for that month but client wants the complete list of Z fields in F4 for paticular fiscal year.
How can i achieve this?

Hi,
In the infoObject definition (in RSA1) go to the Business Explorer tab.
There in the General Settings you have an option 'Query Execution Filter Val. Selectn'. This field describes how the selection of filter values functions when a query is executed.
Here select the 'Only values in infoProvider' option.
Now run your query and try.

Error while creating table 'EDISEGMENT' entry

Hi i have this error when i try to activate transfer rules for some objects in BI, i find some tips for solve this issue, and i know that a good way to solve this is delete entries for the data source not only on ROOSGEN, but also on EDISEGMENT and EDSAPPL tables, both on ECC and BI sides....
Now... i got it.......... but i want to know if it could cause some problems in my infocubes and DSO, most of them, are using this objects and if the object is deleted and created again from BC i would have to reactivate everything again ...is this correct???

Yes, apart from that if the cubes have any other dependencies like multiprovider and infoset you need to alter/adjust them and activate them . Some cubes may become inconsistent while you upload if the older infoobjects and the newer ones are having different infoobject definition.

Wants to display variable as key value in Free Char section of report

Hi All,
I have a variable based on characteristic. When I execute report, I pass value for that variable. And I get text of that variable value, displayed in Free Characteristic section.
Instead of text, I want to display key value there.B'coz many times, texts are ambiguous and quite fictional examples.
I have tried changing 'Display as key' in Business explorer tab of infoobject definition. And in query definition, I already have 'Display as Key'. So I am wondering what else needs to be done for this change.
I will appreciate if someone can help me on this.

Hi Pranali,
You can display all variables used in Query in workbook from BEx Menu(Tool bar) -->> Layout --> Display Text eliments --> Variables (you can see two entries for each variable) one for key and one for Text.

Error while activating the InfoSource.

Dear Friends:
i have the following error when i try to activate an Infosource (0MATERIAL). The error refers to the error log which in SLG1 is as below. According to the error,I did not find any routines in the transfer rules for 0RT_CONFMAT. Please advise what is going wrong and the solution.

The InfoObject of the communication structure has the conversion exit "' . This InfoObject was assigned a field of the transfer structure as a transfer rule. However, conversion exit MATN1 belongs to this field. Problems and errors could occur later if the conversion exits differ.
Procedure
To prevent later problems, select a field with its correctly assigned conversion exit.
When loading from an R/3 system, you can ignore this message if the transfer structure field has a conversion exit and the InfoObject assigned in the transfer rules has no conversion exit.

The system is talking about the conversion exit which can be seen in the infoobject definition in RSD1. This message is quite common and as the it mentions, "When loading from an R/3 system, you can ignore this message if the transfer structure field has a conversion exit and the InfoObject assigned in the transfer rules has no conversion exit."
Are you also loading from R/3?

DATA AGGREGATION ISSUE IN REPORT

when we were running query by selcting the the version . the data is aggregation dono where it went rong
Explanation :
we alredy loaded data with version for the year 2010.. we started laoding from April 2010 to March 2011.. as 12 fiscal periods, with 53 versiions. here version means week(1to53 weeks for year ) but we started laoding from April means 14th week of year 2010. to March 2011. til here no probelm with data every thing is matching in the report/
now the turn comes for laoding data from April 2011..Again 14 version came which is alredy in system for April 2010
now what is happening ..
when we laod data for 14 week of 2011 (April). data is Aggregating or some mixxing up with data..
so what we had done is we had added calyear in the filter so that user can see only the data for version with respective year.
even though data is Aggregation with previous year(2010) for the same version alredy in system ..
nothing is working outt..
can u pls sugest us , any probelm in the back end , need to do any changes for modelling ..
till now what we had done is deleating the data from cube and dso for April2010 for 14 version and laoding data for April 20110 with version 14 . which is toatlay new version in system.
So this Keep on continuying every time..when data not matching.
now for the Month May with version 20 we have to laod the same probelm should not repeat .
pls help with your valuable sugestion detailly.
And this forecast summary report , we have data for next 2 years. planning is doing for every 2 years from currentt date

is your data stored in a cube or DSO? If it is DSO - is version and period / calmonth a key field?
what type of key figure are you using and what is the aggregation rule for this key figure - in the infoobject definition and in the query definition?
is there anything unusual in the definition of your version characteristic? any compounding?
Why did you not use 0calweek?

Problems when trying to load a flat file

I am trying to preview a flat file which I am able to preview on an existing BW system but not on a replacement system (which is a 3.5 system). The structures are identical. The message that I get is below: The infoobject definition for 0CALMONTH is the same in both systems i.e.

Output length: 7

Goto the transfer rules -> Data str/tranger structure tab -> and check whether the 0CALMONTH has any conversion exit assigned. You can remove that and retry.

Input help in variable screen

Hi,
I'm having a query on top of 0EMPLOYEE. 0EMPLOYEE has an attribute of a business unit (which has the default BEx settings of display as text) and I have a selection option variable on top of this attribute.
Previously, on BW 3.x the variable screen used to show both the key and text, regardless of the settings in the BEx tab of the infoobject definition. in BEx Web JAVA it will only let me have the text selection. is it possible to change that without changing the default settings in the BEx tab of the infoobject definition?

Also you could try changing the read mode of the F4 help depending on the size of the cube and MD tables.

Can't see good variables in Query Designer BW 7.0

The technical name of our caracteristic variables in the Query Designer are prefixed by "OR_" or "SV_". I try to make a filter in this variables (for example: a user must be able to see only "SV_" variable) with the authorization objects S_RS_COMP and S_RS_COMP1. But this filter does not work, even if the ST01 trace shows me a Return Code = 4 for the test in the variable technical name.
Have I made something wrong ? is it a bug ? (we are in BW 7.0 SPS9 with Sapgui 6.40 SP 19 and BEx SP 12).

If iam not worng, are you asking about Infoobject level security in BW?
If it is, the following are the steps need to be implemented:
<u><b>Steps to Implement InfoObject Security (field-level security)</b></u>
1) Make the InfoObject authorization-relevant.
The Authorization Relevant setting for an InfoObject made in the InfoObject definition on the Business Explorer tab. The business needs will drive which InfoObjects should be relevant for security. Keep in mind that the people using SAP BWare running queries to help make strategic decisions on how to better run the business. The decision makers typically need to see more data on SAP BW than they would need to see in SAP R/3.
2) Create a custom reporting authorization object.
Since there are no reporting authorization objects provided for InfoObjects, you will have to create your own reporting authorization object for any InfoObject you decide to secure. This is done in transaction code RSSM. When creating your reporting authorization object, you select which fields to put in the authorization object from a list of authorization-relevant InfoObjects. Only InfoObjects that have been marked Authorization Relevant are eligible to be put in a reporting authorization object.
3) Add your new authorization object to a role.
Once you have created an new reporting authorization object and linked it to the appropriate InfoCube(s), users will need access to your reporting authorization object. You will need to manually insert your object into a role.
4) Add a variable to the query.
The reason the variable is required is sometimes unclear at first. If we want a query to only provide results based on the division, for example, then the query itself needs the ability to filter specific division values. Before we can secure on division, the query must be able to restrict data by division. The only way the query can restrict data dynamically is through a variable.
5) Link the reporting authorization object to an InfoProvider.
Linking your reporting authorization object to an InfoProvider is a very critical step. In this step, you will impact people currently executing queries for the InfoProvider that is now related to your reporting authorization object. This linkage forces your reporting authorization object to be checked when ANY query tied to the InfoProvider is executed.

Prob in loading transactional data

Hi all......
i need ur help insloving this. i have to load the transactional data from a flat file and i have four keyfig data to be loaded and all the four are defined as 0curreny in their infoobject definition. my data stru like this column1 " 700 "(value of the keyfig)column2"usd"(currency)column3"900"column4"inr"cloumn5"800"cloumn6"euro"
My prob is that when i create the datasource for this in bi 7.0.in the fields tab only one time i can enter 0currency . and rest of fields are left alone . and when i do the transformation there is no rule linked to it
