Infoobject - Inforource with direct update

Hello guys
I'm having one infoobject for which the infosource with direct update is ticked. But for the same, i'm not able to assign any datasource.
The steps which i followed are given below.
1)Created datasource and replicated at BW
2)Right clicked on infosource and clicked on Assign datasource, selected required source systems, but not able to find the Dar\tasource which i have created. ( the datasource is not being assigend to any other info source)
The otherway i tried is as follows
1)Clicked on source system, drilled down to corresponding DS, and right clicked on that and selected Assign infosource and given the require infosource name but in my transfer rule i'm not able to find anything. its empty even if my communication structure is having 4 info objects.
Anyone faced this problem before or my way of doin it itself is wrong?
Thnx in advance
Regards
Sriram

Hello Sanjay,
Once you export data source and after getting success message, BW generates data source for any infosource irrespective of direct/flexible update. Please do following steps in order to find it out...
1. Select an appropriate infosource and say "Generate Export Data Source". Take an instance for "ZSPNUMBER" infosurce which loads attribute and master data.
2. Now go to RSA2 transaction and search for 8ZSPNUMBERM and 8ZSPNUMBERT as BW appends 8 in starting and type at the end.
Hope it helps you.

  • Characteristics - Master data Tab- infosource with direct update

    Dear Experts,
Please explain me in Laymans Language as i am new to BI (but am an ABAP consultant).
In Info Object Characteristics,  Master data Tab there is infosource with direct update with an application Component.
    1. Now my doubt is,  when i specify the Application Component, this infosource would appear under the application component in Modeling->Infosources.
Then on this infosource i would right click and create the info pakage and then data transfer process.
    is it correct?
    2. Suppose for this characteristic if i dont specify the infosource with direct update  then it wont appear in the infosource, so how can i load data in this case?
    Regards
    BI Learner

    Hi,
Using an InfoSource with direct updating, master data (characteristics with attributes, texts, or hierarchies) of an InfoObject can be updated directly (without update rules, only using transfer rules) into the master data table. To do this you must assign it an application component. The system displays the characteristic in the InfoSource tree in the Data Warehousing Workbench. You can assign DataSources and source systems to the characteristic from there. You can then also load master data, texts, and hierarchies for the characteristic.
You cannot use an InfoObject as an InfoSource with direct updating if:
    i. The characteristic you want to modify is characteristic 0SOURSYSTEM (source system ID).
ii.  The characteristic has neither master data nor texts nor hierarchies. It is therefore impossible to load data for the characteristic.
iii.  The characteristic that you want to modify turns out not to be a characteristic, but a unit or a key figure.
To generate an export DataSource for a characteristic, the characteristic must also be an InfoSource with direct updating.
    1. *Now my doubt is, when i specify the Application Component, this infosource would appear under the application component in Modeling->Infosources.
Then on this infosource i would right click and create the info pakage and then data transfer process.*
The characteristic will be available in info source tree, you can assign a datasource->assignsource system->create package->load data.
    2. Suppose for this characteristic if i dont specify the infosource with direct update then it wont appear in the infosource, so how can i load data in this case?
For a characteristic If you dont specify 'InfoSources with Direct Updating' then it wont appear in infosource tree.

  • Change communication structure for master data with direct update

    Hi All,
I am having a problem with a change I want to make to some master data. I have added the attribute to the characteristic, but when I have gone to change the communication structure, its not possible (the add line button is greyed out)
I can see the new infoobject in the datasource/trans structure, but not in the comms structure (And yes it is in change mode   ).
The master data uses direct update, and I have read that this causes some hassles in changing the comms str.
Can someone please give me some steps in doing this??
    Thanks
    Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
Why u have nothing to map is ?
U r datasource trasfer structure from the source ssytem has nothing new ..
1)TO ur Info object u can only write the routing or give any formula or anythign like the trasfer rules oftions that have when u click on the IO icon..
    2) Enhave the structure of the datasoruce that is getting from the  R3 source system...
    3) Replicate it ..
Then only u will be able to find the extra field at the Trasfer structure... to map to the IO which have been added..

  • Error handling for master data with direct update

    Hi guys,
For master data with flexible update, error handling can be defined in InfoPackege, and if the load is performed via PSA there are several options - clear so far. But what about direct update...
But my specific question is: If an erroneous record (e.g invalid characters) occur in a master data load using direct update, this will set the request to red. But what does this mean in terms of what happens to the other records of the request (which are correct) are they written to the master data tables, so that they can be present once the masterdata is activated, or are nothing written to masterdata tables if a single record is erroneous???
    Many thanks,
    / Christian

    Hi Christian -
Difference between flexible upload & Direct upload is that direct upload does not have Update Rules, direct upload will have PSA as usual & you can do testing in PSA.
second part when you load master data - if error occurs all the records for that request no will be status error so activation will not have any impact on it i.e. no new records from failed load will be available.
    hope it helps

  • Yellow screen with direct update to v2.0.1

Hi, I purchased an iPhone 3G a couple of days back, after ofcourse having read about the yellow tinted screen problem and that the second version of firmware 2.0 fixing it.
I intended to do a software "restore" via iTunes with my iPhone out of the box, hoping that the yellow tint would get corrected. However, iTunes automatically updated the firmware to v2.0.1 (5B108) but the tint didn't get corrected.
I tried downgrading my firmware to v2.0 via iTunes but it does not work (gives me a 13xx error).
Could anyone please help me with this ?
    Many thanks in advance...

To restore it, try the option to "Restore the default toolbar set" as shown here - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Back+and+forward+or+other+toolbar+items+are+missing
If that does not work, try the option to "Reset toolbars and controls" in the same article.

  • Infosource to be used for both Direct update and Flexiable update

    Hi,
      I had a Data source 0CUST_SALES_ATTR.
A infosource is created Direct Update of Master Data from DS:0CUST_SALES_ATTR to 0cust_sales.
So the Data source 0CUST_SALES_ATTR is being used to load ATTR data of 0CUST_SALES.
Now as per my requirment created a new Z infoobject to use for Transtive attributes....How can i use the same data source 0CUST_SALES_ATTR to load 0CUST_SALES (Direct Update) and the new Z infoobject using Transfer & Update rules.
    and
    Question:
Will it be possible to switch the current Infosource with direct update to Flexiable update with out deleting the Transferrules as there are lot of routines in the transfer rules

  • Direct update and flexible update

    Hi BWers,
I want to know the difference between direct update and flexible update in detail. Could someone explain me in detail with an example? or send me some documents explaining this clearly?
    Regards,
    RV.

    hi
Using the fleixble update method for master data loads you need to create update rules for the
InfoSource and the InfoObject. The direct update loads the data directly without going through the
    update rule layer.
The presence of Update Rules allows for extra processing and data transformation capability. Also the
flexible update makes it possible to load data from several sources to the InfoObject, since all
you need to do it to create update rules between the InfoSource and your InfoObject. An example
of using this is when you need to populate certian master data attributes but the data is
coming as transaction data. Sometimes the descriptions are also a part of transaction data,
whereas you may want to load them as text rather than in the cube (this happens a lot in CRM datasources).
So here flexible updates are useful.

  • Flexible update or Direct update

    Hi Gurus,
When we load the master data using a generic extractor from R3 to BW, which update(direct or flexible) is preferable. Can you please tell me about the pros and cons.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    aarthi
    [email protected]

    Hi Aarthi,
Direct or Flexible update will actually be dictated by which Infosource the datasource needs to be attached to. If this data is just going to the InfoObject, then you can work with direct update. If the data extracted by this datasource has to be fed to multiple objects/targets, then you need a flexible update as this involves update rules from the InfoSource into the data targets.
There is really no pro and con to each method, but just the decision as to whether you need another layer of processing (update rules) or need to push the data to multiple targets.
    Hope this helps...

  • Flexible update Vs direct update.

    Hi Experts;
could someone explain what are flexible and direct updating of Infosource, I kind of know the definitions but need more explanations.
    Krishma

    Hi Krishma;
    InfoSources with Flexible Updating:
For an InfoSource with flexible updating, the data from the communications structure is loaded into the data targets (InfoCubes, ODS objects, master data) using update rules. Several data targets can be defined by one InfoSource. The InfoSource can contain transaction data as well as master data.
    InfoSources with Direct Updating:
Master data (characteristics with attributes, texts or hierarchies) of an InfoObject can be updated directly (without update rules, only using transfer rules) to the master data table with an InfoSource with direct updating. To do this you must assign it application components. The characteristic is subsequently displayed in the InfoSource tree in the Administrator Workbench. You are able to assign DataSources and source systems to the characteristic from here. You are also able to load master data, texts, and hierarchies for the characteristic.
Hope it makes clear to you now.

  • Direct update DSO filed is missing in RSINPUT

    Hi Experts
I am facing an issue while maintaining data for Direct Update DSO.
I create a  Direct Update DSO with some key fields and two data fields , the two data fields are the same type with'CHAR' and the same length with '01'.  Actually , they are flags for different purposes.
when I am trying to maintain data for this DSO in t_code RSINPUT, only one data field presents.
as showing above , field RL000966 is missing in RSINPUT.
I need maintain two flags in one record , please tell me how to do?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Check whether the infoobject RL000966 is an attribute only infoobject !!
If "attribute only" is checked then uncheck it and then try .

  • Loading complex report data into a direct update DSO using APD

    Dear All,
Recently, I had a requirement to download the report data into a direct update DSO using an APD. I was able to perform this easily when the report was simple i.e it has few rows and columns. But I faced problems If the report is a complex one. Summing up, I would like to know how to handle the scenarios in each of the following cases:
    1.   How should I decide the key fields and data fields of the direct update DSO ? Is it that the elements in ROWS will go to the
key fields of DSO and the remaining to the data fields? Correct me.
    2.   What if the report contains the Restricted KFs and Calculated KFs? Do I have to create separate infoobjects in the BI
system and then include these in the DSO data fields to accommodate the extracted data ?
    3.   How do I handle the Free Characteristics and Filters ?
    4.  Moreover, I observed that if the report contains selection screen variables, then I need to create variants in the report and
use that variant in the APD. So, if I have 10 sets of users executing the same report with different selection conditions, then
shall I need to create 10 different variants and pass those into 10 different APDs, all created for the same report ?
I would appreciate if someone can answer my questions clearly.
    Regards,
    D. Srinivas Rao

    Hi ,
    PFB the answers.
    1. How should I decide the key fields and data fields of the direct update DSO ? Is it that the elements in ROWS will go to the
key fields of DSO and the remaining to the data fields? Correct me.
--- Yes , you can use the elements in the ROWS in the Key fields,  but in case you get two records with same value in the ROWS element the data load will fail. So you basically need to have one value that would be different for each record.
    2. What if the report contains the Restricted KFs and Calculated KFs? Do I have to create separate infoobjects in the BI
system and then include these in the DSO data fields to accommodate the extracted data ?
Yes you would need to create new Infoobjects for the CKF's and RKF's in the Report and include them in your DSO.
    3. How do I handle the Free Characteristics and Filters ?
The default filters work in the same way as when you yourself execute the reoprt. But you cannot use the Free characterisitics in the APD. only the ROWS and cloumns element which are in default layout can be used.
--- Yes you would need to create 10 different APD's. Its very simple to create, you can copy an APD. but it would be for sure a maintance issue. you would have to maintain 10 APD's.
Please revert in case of any further queries.

  • Loading Master Data with Flexible Update

    Hi,
I have created an Infoobject - Business Partner (Master Data bearing characteristics). The attributes to this are Region, Sales Person, Industry code which are master bearing characteristic as well.
I need to load data to the business partner from a csv file.
The layout of the CSV file is -
BP number, BP text (long Text), Region Code, Region Desc (Med Text), Sales Person Code, Sales Person Desc (Med Text), Industry Code, Industry description (Med Text).
How do I define the infosource to load this data.
    Appreciate any help with this.
    Thank You,
    Prashanth

    Hi,
First of all, I need to note that there are two kind of Infosources: with direct and flexible update.
If you choose a direct IS, then in the creating of the IS you just enter the name of the infoobject where you are going to load data. The system will create a IS (comm. structure). Enter this IS for changing. The system will propose you the communication structure,  click on a bottom icon “Transfer structure/Transfer rules”, choose as a ‘Source system’ your flat file system. Agree with the system when it asks you to save assignments (up to 3 times). Activate TRs. Then click in the field for Datasource. You may see there another datasources (for texts, attributes and hierarchies). Choose one by one another datasources with their activation.
Now you can create an infopackage for a load – you can choose what kind of package it is going to be – for loading texts, attributes or hierarchies.
Note that in this case the structure of the flat file is proposed by the system and you need just prepare the flat file corresponding to the proposed structure (different for each of 3 possible datasources). Execute infopackage.
If you use a flexible IS, then you may insert into comm. structure the fields that you think you may need in the master data. Note that here you may have not only attributes but TEXTS also. Save a comm. structure. Assign a flat file source system and activate a TRs.
After that in RSA1-dataproviders tab – right click – insert IO as a data target – choose your IO. Refresh the screen. You’ll see up to three data targets. Create update rules for each of them. In URs map the fields in the IS with the fields in URs.
    Best regards,
    Eugene

  • Look up InfoObject's attributes in update rule

    Hello Gurus!!!
I have an update rule that looks up for an InfoObject's attributes to update some fields of an InfoCube. Is there another way to do this look up than load all InfoObject attributes into an internal table from the start routine? I tried to read the attribute's table directly from the routine but it takes very very long time.
    Thanks for your help!!

    Hi:
I think you made good progress with Viren's advice.
Your statement looks fine. Now, I think you should play with some settings.
    1) Try reading a sebset without too many AND statements. I cannot tell you which ones are important.
Look at it this way, if you get 1 million by htis complex Select, try to get 1.5 mil by simplifying the statement since you don't have memory problems anymore.
If you are reading my Master Data table, why don't you read by KEY, Active Data and just one more FIELD (you pick the field which will give you least values).
    E.g.
    SELECT * FROM /bic/pzdocument
       INTO TABLE it_document
       FOR ALL ENTRIES IN DATA_PACKAGE
       WHERE
       /bic/zdocument = DATA_PACKAGE-ac_doc_no AND
       objvers = 'A' AND
       item_num = DATA_PACKAGE-item_num.
Another one is that there is a good chance your DATA_PACKAGE-ac_doc_no  is there Multiple times. Now your Select Statement will read the DB table Multiple Times. So, you can do this:
    DATA_PACKAGE_1 like DATA_PACKAGE.
    DATA_PACKAGE_1 [] =DATA_PACKAGE [].
    DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM DATA_PACKAGE_1
                 COMPARING ac_doc_no.
    Then, write your Code.
    SELECT * FROM /bic/pzdocument
       INTO TABLE it_document
       FOR ALL ENTRIES IN DATA_PACKAGE_1
       WHERE
       /bic/zdocument = DATA_PACKAGE_1-ac_doc_no AND
       objvers = 'A' AND
       item_num = DATA_PACKAGE_1-item_num.
Its difficult to tell which one is more efficient. Your best bet is to spend soem time on these Codes and get the Statistics. Also, take an ABAPers help if available.
    Good luck,
Forget: Its a good time now to play with your Laod Tansfer Settings (do it at the InfoPackage Level so that you don't change others' load)
Go to InfoPackage, Sechduler from Menu, Data Transfer Settings for Max Size, no. of data packets.

  • When to use Flexible Update and when Direct update??

    Hi ,
I know some situations when to load flexible update( transaction , flat file) and when to use direct update (only for master data).
Can some one correct me  and tell what are all the possible situations for these 2 types of Update when loading Infosource?
    Thanks alot in advance.

    hi,
The direct update methods used previously used DataSources for attributes and
texts connected directly with master data tables and text tables for the InfoObject.
In the flexible update, the master data and text tables now appear as data targets. T
he flexible update is used to fill these data targets from master data and text
InfoSources that were created for the InfoObjects listed above. This enables you to
use update rules for the data targets (master data/text tables) in addition to the
    transfer rules already used.
    check these links for detail.
