Information About My iMac Computer??

Add External eSATA Port
am i'm allowed to use an External eSata Drive for My iMac Computer? cause i need more Storage but my Memory is in good Standards & where can I Get an External eSata Drive from? I Went to OWC.com & I Contacted them on Twitter & they told me that I Can use there iMac Turnkey Service and add more than one drive :-)
so can I Really use an External eSata Drive or port or whatever it's called on my iMac Computer, I Told them i had an 2009 24inch Apple iMac Computer & i told them i don't know how to install Hard Drives cause i never done it before so i'm a little scared to do it? so i had to ask this question??
or what kind of Hard Drive I Can put in My 2009 24inch iMac Computer, i'm looking for a 2TB Drive? & will The Apple Store install it for me?

The Apple store won't install it, but an authorized service provider will. That is if you want to replace the internal hard drive you have now. The only other way (and only on some models) would be that they take out the Super Drive and put another hard drive in there. Not worth it with the age of your computer, Byron.
Much better (and cheaper): get another external hard drive and park all your movies, etc. there and get them off your internal drive. Here are some good ones from OWC:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/EliteALmini/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
You can't use an eSata drive because your Mac doesn't have an eSata port and, again, considering the age of your machine, it is not worth adding that expense. Firewire 800 will work just fine.
And PLEASE - do not even think about taking apart your iMac - only people who are used to this kind of stuff should do it. There are many many parts inside to remove. Here are some photos:

  • Confusing information about expanding iMac 2.3

    hi,
there are confusing information about expanding my white iMac 2.33 GHz. I want to change the RAM configuration. Today the Mac contains 2x 1GB RAM (DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz).
Apple says I can go up to 4GB - but only use 3GB. Is there anyone using 4GB in the same computer?
Which specification is the right one PC-5300 or PC-5400. This information confuse me, too.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3011?viewlocale=de_DE
    or
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2821?viewlocale=de_DE
    Any answers or comments?
    THANK YOU!

Your imac should be the one on the right in the tech specs here (upgraded to the 2.33 GHz), which is essentially the same as mine except for the upgraded processor:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP28
Yes, you can put a total of 4 GB in there, but from what I've read here, it will only recognize about 3.2 or so of the RAM, so I decided to simply go with a total of 3 GB and it is running well. So you could just replace one of the 1 GB sticks with a 2 GB stick. And, according to the specs, it is the PC-5300.

  • 2 Questions about My iMac Computer?

When I Restart My iMac when the Machine Restarting the sound got low & i wanted to know if an Update have to do with that? is that normal? does that mean my computer will die out in about a few years depending? just making sure everything is ok? & I Never get any Errors & My 24inch iMac Computer still works Excellent.
When I Put My iMac to Sleep The Tapping sound got a little low does an Update have to do with that? is that Normal? My iMac still works Excellent, no problems whats so ever.

Hardware test is not a bad thing to do - it won't hurt your machine; it tests all the hardware parts (it's not 100%, but pretty good). You follow the instructions exactly, unplug everything but the keyboard and mouse, and start up with your original CD - just print out the instructions from Apple. Then choose the extended (long) test and let it run - it can take quite a while. It should show everything is ok; if there is any message other than ok, copy it and post it here.
As for the noises, it is probably just the hard drive spinning; we talked about this before: hard drives can go bad - some last 10 years, others only 5 - it's unpredictable; that's why you have a backup on the G drive. You are keeping that up to date?
Also, highlight your hard drive icon and hit Command + I - in the get info window, post back with what it says about total capacity, used, and available spaces - please.
And I know you install lots and lots of software, so do you repair permissions after every install? You know how to do that, right? If not, let me know.

  • Servlet to gather information about clients computer

I was wondering if there is a way using servlets to gather information about a persons computer when they run the servlet. for example, their ip address, name of their computer, etc..

A servlet is a bad choice for spyware. For what you can get, see the API documentation for HttpServletRequest. There's getRemoteAddr, getRemoteHost, and getHeader for example.

I would like to know if it is possible to find technical information about my iMac using its serial number as I do not know what year it was produced.

    Glenn,
I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about.

I have all my previous music files in wma formats from my previous PC Windows xp computer. And only two weeks ago I decided to purchase an iMac computer OS X Maverick, and there are a lot of files and information I would like to bring to the Mac, but I'm having problems playing my music file, suited to the PC but not with iMac as yet. So, I hope you can help on this...
    Kind Regards
    Robert Klaassen

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

  • About My Apple iMac Computer & Apple iTunes???

just now A Blank Gray Screen Came on when i was on Apple iTunes & I Was Downloading Music & Syncing My Music & Music Video's to My Apple iPod Classic 160GB & then it said it had to Restart My iMac Computer cause of a problem & i pressed ok & words came on the screen to but it did Restart My iMac Computer & i'm back on now & this is My 1st time this has happened & i'm running Mac OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks so is this normal? or is my iMac Computer ready to fail? & also a little screen box came up telling me to Report it to Apple so i did that so i wanted to know if this is normal & that if anyone else had the Same Problem as I Did?
Everything is back to normal now.

Well, when you're going through the first setup on the new one, there is a window that comes up that asks if you want to import anything (from another Mac, or other source), so you'd connect your old Mac to the new one and then should be able to transfer stuff. The new ones have a new kind of port (Thunderbolt), so you'd need a cable with a firewire port on one end and a Thunderbolt on the other for that - or, if you have a firewire cable, you can get an adapter for the one end. If you have it on the Gdrive, you can transfer from there too. Time Machine would be a good thing for you to use or a clone (use CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper for it).
Anyway, if all you want to transfer are some files, you could also just drag (copy) them over. Here is some good information:
    http://pondini.org/TM/19.html
You can see there a lots of ways to do it - you just need to pick the one you want to use.

  • Firefox is about 80 percent downloaded onto my new iMac computer and will not finish.

I have a new iMac computer and tried to download Firefox. It downloaded about 80 percent and stopped. what should i do?

Are you updating or downloading the full version?
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
