Information about smd agent

Hello
Do i need to install smd Agent in every system that in my landscape to monitor the system?
I try to look for the answer in the documentation but I didn't find it.

Hi,
SMD Agent should be installed once per Host (or say Managed system). And that Managed system/host may contain any number of ABAP/Java/Standalone systems(& there combination).

Hi All,
Thaks for your suggestions. I chcked the note 182020, but the issue described in the note is for error byte code adapter installation whcih is not my case. The byte cde adapter intallation has been successful in our solman system All the steps from 1 to 9 are green. Only in step 10, check cniguration I am getting the above error.
The logon test wth the user id in step 3 "Enter system parameters" is successful. The message server port is also correct.

when you performed the SMD Setup Wizard in the managing system, created the SMD_ADMIN user and the enter the passowrd
please reset the password for the smd_admin user in the managing system (satelite system and try)

Procedure
1. You can either change the password of the J2EE user used by the agents or create a new J2EE user in User Management.
2. Open the Agent Administration application
In the Agent Credentials panel, fill the previous login of the Diagnostics Agents and enter the new one (or enter the same login with a new password). Click on the Update all agents button.
3. All the agents are disconnected and reconnected with the new credentials

Configure com.sap.smd.agent.application.portalactivityreport

Hi,
I am trying to use the solution manager diagnostics and the portal activity reports to gather some information about our portal utilization. I have my portal system connected using SMD agent, I am able to run other monitoring application within SMD but when I try to execute the portal activity report I get the following error:

Could invoke portal activity report web service properly, please check the configuration
On the configuration of the application there are not parameters to configure, and the agent application seems to be running and deployed:

If somebody has implemented this functionality or have had the same problem let me know with any idea of pointer.

Hello,
You have to follow the SAP Note 893101 to set the security zone to Everyone on the Portal Activity Report web service on the portal.
And you need to restart the service com.sap.portal.activity.report.core.

Cannot connect SMD agent to SOLMAN

Hi I have started SMDagent and it doesn't connect to SOLMAN. here is the log info:

I have the same error message for all my SMD agent instances and they are well running.
About the initial problem :
if all informations are correct when you installed it, it seems to be a problem of firewall.
If i were you, i will :
- connect on my agent server
- tape the following command : "telnet <solman_hostname> 81<NR+1>
if you read a message that's says it's impossible, this means the port 81<NR+1> is not opened on firewall.
if you read : "connected to <solman_hostname>", you 'll have to reconfigure the properties of your agent by the script smdsetup.sh in /usr/sap/SMD/J<NR>/script

SMD and SMD-agent - network load

We have a SolMan with SMD, monitoring a portal (with SMD agent).
The network people tell us there is a lot of communications going on between the 2 servers - approx. 10 GB/day.
Could this possibly be the communication between SMD agent and SMD?
(Or the comminication between the Introscope agent and the Introscope EM?)
If so, could it be reduced by configuration of the agent (configuring the level of detail of the information it sends across)?
Where can I find the documentation? The documentation I have found so far is about set-up - making it work - not about fine-tuning.

Are you sure that those 2 servers are dealing with this much # of data?
That's what the network people see in their tool.
Basically, how come you can arrive at a decision that SMD agents is using this much load..there can be any other processes too, which are causing this traffic of data...
The reasoning is, that this is the only functional relationship. The only application on server A that has a need to communicate with anything on server B is SMD. This assumes that the application manager has not overlooked any interactions.
On the other hand, we are now looking at port numbers and checking what's listening on those port numbers.

Information about fwdservice dot com?

Earlier today I tried to access www <dot> casponline <dot> org which is supposed to be the site of the California Association of School Psychologists. When I had trouble viewing content, I enabled javascript for two sites the page seemed to need: cdn <dot> rooktemplate <dot> com and fwdservice <dot> com. This didn't seem to help much. I went from blank content to perpetual loading.
As far as I can tell fwdservice is associated with Windows malware which redirects attempts to access various webpages to fwdservice's site. I am guessing this simply fails on Linux but does anybody know anything more about this? The information about Windows is what I gleaned from a web search but I am not sure how reliable it is or if there is more to this. Because I was on campus at the time, the university's rule set typically blocks malware sites. (E.g. a link which would take me somewhere at home will be blocked on campus.) Obviously that's only a certain proportion of what's out there, however, so it doesn't show the information isn't reliable.
I am pretty sure that casponline should be a legitimate site or used to be one as I've found links to it from enough kosher-looking pages for it to seem unlikely they are all fake. (And they are always pages about psychological research etc.)

OK. If I ping casponline.org, I get the same ip (68.171.213.42). If I load that ip in my browser and allow it to load the script, it all looks fine. But if I load www.casponline.org, I get nothing and the source code for the page is completely different.

I get the same result at home as on campus (but I'm on the same machine). So how would my DNS get poisoned and can I unpoison it?
Though if DNS was poisoned, wouldn't it affect ping as well?
EDIT: I just sshed into a machine at work (which I am about to lose, but still for today...) and found that ping www.casponline.com uses an ip address of 107.20.206.69. So could that have been the address I got given earlier when using my laptop on campus? Now I'm home so I get the right result from ping. But why would firefox still use the same ip as earlier? I tried removing the cache but it didn't make any difference. Is there something further I need to do? (And is this likely to indicate a more serious problem?)
The machine I sshed to is running Fedora 19 so it is definitely not likely to be an Arch-specific screw-up on my part, if you see what I mean.

we are using SRM 5.0
I need information about services in SRM
so, we have two types of product - material and service.
we have already tested shopping, bidding and other functionality with material. It is clear for me.
now it is time for service testing, and i have some questions:
1. When employee goes shopping - he chooses "Internal Goods/Services", then he click "Start". And a very long list of materials and services is displayed. Services and materials are mixed in alphabetical order.
Are there some ways for dividing this big list in two parts - materials and services? not to sort all of them by descending/ascending order, but to separate them, because to look for something in mixed list is impossible.
Can we make Product Type field to be mandatory for entering before displaying the results? I mean having a binocular near this field, and clicking on it will give us a chance to choose Services or Materials. It will make more simple the whole process.
2. After adding to a SC, are there any differences between processes with Materials and Services? Or no differences, and the same biddings, auctions and others..
3. What is the "Requests" menu in Go Shopping? for which purposes i can use it?
4. Managing Business Partners and it's employee, i have a check-box "service agent". Where this status of partner is use? i can't see in the shopping cart any fields for choosing a service agent

Does solution manager 4.0 require SMD Agent?

we have solman 4.0 abap+java with sp11.we are in the process of configuring sol mananager diagnostics for sattlite systems.
for monitoring solution manager java stack it self from solution manager do we need to install SMD AGENT even thogh solution manger it self has SMD server ? still solution manger need SMD AGENT ?

SMD Agents are mandatory to run Diagnostics on sattelite systems.
Each Agent is connected to SMD Server and is able to run task or collect information from central request (SMD Server).
If you do not have them, you will not be able to run any tools in Diag.
SMD Server is one sub-component of Solution Manager 4.0.

Monitoring SMD Agent with CCMS

Hi gurues, I need to know if there is any way to monitor SMD Agent installed in an application server via CCMS CEN system on a Solution Manager.
Right now we have CEN Monitoring define on Solution Manager, and several SMD Agents over the whole landscape, and it is critical for us to get alerted when this SMD goes down, so we are thinking about monitoring through Solutin Manager, isthat possible or we must do it in another way?

It's so typical SAP; I was looking for exactly the same question. SAP changed from 7.1 the OSCOL to run by the host agent instance and will not install the OSCOL to the SAP instance. You also will not be able to download OSCOL separatly.
But OSCOL is needed to monitor processes on host side. If the host agent don't starts also the OSCOL will not start (on LINUX side) and so you are not be able to monitor the SMD process.
The only chance is to start the SMD via init script.
A better way would be to implement a GRMG availability monitoring; this can be implemented in the CEN system independent from the monitored host. In the first solution the host has to be create itself the basis to monitor itself... that's nonsense.
I absolutly don't understand why SAP always and everywhere ignore his own design concept and reinvent the wheel. It would be so easy to design and implement the availability moniroring on SAP development side but they don't have a focus on that. It is the same with SAP router connection via host agent to the CEN system. It was implemented as very last feature after a lot of disgruntled customers (administrators).

Registration of SMD agent

I have encountered this error when we are trying to register the SMD agent (a few tries already)
As we still cannot see the SMD agent running from our SolMan server

What is your Solution Manager version? Inform the SP and the LM-SERVICE.
Try the following:
1. go to agent admin and enable Maintenance Mode
2. go to tab advanced settings
3. increase the value as follows
Smd.asio.remote.time.out.long.ms = 1800000
smd.asio.remote.time.out.ms = 60000
4. go to NWA page and restart the service
tcsmdserver~service
5. go to agent admin and disable Maintenance Mode
6. restart smd agent and see the result.

SMD agents for Solaris X86_64

According to PAM Solaris X86_64 is released generally for WebAS 7.00 ABAP + Java (NW2004s SR1 to be exact).
However, there are no SMD agents available for that platform. Any idea why those will be published?

thanx - did that - and they told, that they "do not exist" (that's what I know already).
