Thanks in Advance.Well you hear bad things: ... using (brain)dumps is cheating:

Searching this forum and {forum:id=923} for legitimate posts should yield some answers .... I know there have been some relevant posts on both forums.
Also check out the official Oracle Certification Website http://certification.oracle.com .... both about become certified and your paricular certification ..... there is much relevant information available there.
Also be sure to check out 'Preparation' and the new Certification help Center at support/FAQ.

  • Java Certification With Retake

    Hello guys,
I wanna know if oracle will offer a promotion to buy a java certification with retake like last year.
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, but this is a java programming forum - Oracle employees hardly ever look here. If you want to ask such questions you'll have to look into the contact information and ask them directly.

  • Java Certification Tips Anyone ??

    Hi there,
I am learning java and plan to give the exam for Sun certified java programmer. If any of you have already done this I would like some tips towards preparing for the exam.
I am planning to buy the book on java certification by Roberts, Heller & Ernest. Is this a good enough reference or do I need something more.
Also I would like to know whether certification really helps in the job market, before you have completed your graduation. I raside in India and am doing a Bachelors degree in Computer Applications.
I recently heard some people say that java is becoming obsolete. Is this true, and what are its implications for yhose who get a java certificaion.
Thanks for any help in advance

Personally I think that the Sun certification program is one of the few certs in the market that actually still holds some value to it. The lack of "boot camp" type training programs has helped this out a whole lot. Unlike other certifications, having the sun certs should give you a slight edge in the market... whereas certs like MCSE, MCSD, etc don't count much for you if you have 'em, but if you don't it looks bad.
Anyway... reading books is good. Read them through a couple of times. While the exams aren't extremely expensive, just make sure you take the time to know everything before you even attempt it once. If there's something you don't quite understand, go online and research as much as you can until you do. There's tons and tons of information out there freely available... take advantage of it.

  • How to get current file position information in JAVA ?

    Hello,
I would like to know if someone knows how to get and set current file position information in JAVA ?
In C I use fgetpos and fsetpos.
    Thanks

Instead of using a standard java.io.File, use java.io.RandomAccessFile
This is a great class - you can get the file pointer (getFilePointer()), and set it (seek(long pos) )
that will do all you need I presume - works the same a file handle in C.

I thought I'd give you a response even if I can't answer your question completely. (I think we ought to start a separate thread entitled "How do you get any replies on this forum???") Here is what I have been forced to do. I introduced some JavaScript on the web page that contains the applet I want to be run. The sole purpose of the JavaScript is to detect which platform the client is on. If it's not MacIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the <object><embed> tag used by the Java plug-in. It it is MachIntosh, then I have JavaScript write the regular <applet> tag and let the Mac browsers do as best they can. With mixed and disappointing results. Netscape 6.2 crashes with a lot of applets. IE 5 brings up the applet okay but certain Swing components aren't displaying properly. The MacIntosh I've been testing on is version 9.1. I'm trying OS X tomorrow.
Why don't you send a reply to my query under the Java Plug-in Forum--from aronsz, dated 06/11/02--if you have some more info by now. I sure would appreciate it.

  • Java certification

Hai all. I have just finished sitting for my certification exam and passed with high marks. I have one study guide that I wrote myself for the exam. I can give to you if you need it.
    bye.

I think certifications are good things. There might even be a good debate about whether programming should try to become a more "professional" profession and only allow trained, certified practitioners, but that's another thread.
Having obtained a couple of Java certifications, they're like most degrees and courses. Once you have them, nobody much cares about what grades you got or how many of them you have. They base their impressions on one fundamental question: "Can you do this for me RIGHT NOW?" If you can, you're smart. If you can't, you've either got to learn quickly or fail. All the degrees and certifications in the world only help to the extent to which they equip you to learn new things.
I like knowing things at the bottom if I can, so I went back and took fundamental computer science courses at the start of my programming career. I didn't want to be a "learn VB in 21 days" kind of software guy. I wanted to know about algorithms and data structures and finte automata and decomposition and relational databases. I wanted to minimize the chances that I'd be scorned for not knowing the basics. I still read technical material as widely as I can.
I think that's been more important than my Java certifications. - MOD

Thanks.0) The exam will be very substantially unchanged AFAIK.
    1) Compare the topics in your book compared to topics on the exam webpage. If you see any differences ... then you may need to do a little more research. Its quite normal for for exams to get an update from time to time, and often books can be less than up to date.
    2) This thread covers the typical sort of detail changes to expect.
    3) Does the book have a website where updates/errata are known? Look there.
    4) There may be a couple note either in blogs.oracle.com/certification especially wrt the prometric to peason vue transition or the oracle to sun transition. I have other things to do in my life to search for this, espeically when the train i was to catch train decided to expire itself in a tunnel. This is probably a java software fault.

  • Java certification & oracle database administrator certification

    Hello,
On this page i can see all certification paths. But when i logged into my account, on pearsonvue.com, i issued 'Schedule an exam'. But there i can't find any java certification or oracle database administration certifications. So where can i find all the certifications for scheduling, shown on that page?
    Thanks

Thanks1) You need to drill down from that link to find individual exams ... eg 1z0-051, 1z0-052, etc ... for instance via:
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=198&p_org_id=&lang=
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_052
    2) You may need to register on Pearson VUE particularly for Oracle.
(Prometric works much on on a one registration does all, Pearson VUe requires registration for each vendor, in general as far as I remember). But I was able to use my LPIC registered Pearson VUE for Oracle
To begin with ensure you go via http://www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/
    3) Java exams, having come from Sun stewardship, are currently via Prometric.
See the Sun Transition FAQ (which is now VERY hard to locate unless you know what you are looking for!)
