Information on SAP: ERP 2004 ECC Component

Hi All,
We are performing a Pilot Project for one of our client, by integrating and harnessing the functionalities of technologies like SAP: Netweaver Portal (GUI), SAP: Exchange Infrastructure (Middleware), Manufacturing Execution System (MES) along with SAP: ERP 2004 (Client's scope).
Request all to suggest a good source (website) for collecting information on ECC component of SAP: ERP 2004.

Help.sap.com is the best. Anyways what is area of information you are looking at? is it installation and configuration of the product or is it like what the product would offer.

ESS with SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0

Hello,
with SAP R/3 we used the Employee Self Services via an external ITS. Now we are using SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 with an installed Java AddIn without Enterprise Portal.
My Question is:
What ways are possible, so that we can use the ESS functionality?
My Ideas are:
1. Use the old external ITS and connect it to the new system.
Problem: Is the connection possible?
or
2. Use the existing services from the internal ITS.
Problem: It seems that some are not working - is it possible to activate them?
or
3. Use the WebDynpro-Technology without Enterprise Portal.
Problem: Will it work?
All information I could find, is, that none of the mentioned ways will work, but maybe someone tried to do the same and was successful.

Hello Andre,
I don't have experience with using ESS web dynpro applications standalone without EP but I believe that should work just fine. We use standalone web dynpro applications for our mobile ISR/PCR approvals where we access web dynpro application directly via Blackberry. You should be able to access any web dynpro application directly without EP iView - for certain services you will need to provide the correct attributes and values via URL though.

ESS XSS delivered with SAP ERP 2004 compatible with SAP 4.7?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has sought to implement the latest version of ESS (for SAP ERP 2004) for a SAP 4.7 backend? Is this at all compatible?
I have implemented ESS 50.4 on EP6 SR1 and this works fine with a backend SAP 4.7, but I am interested in knowing whether the newer version of ESS (non-ITS) is compatible with SAP 4.7. I am thinking not, but any experiences of others would be useful.

If you are concerned about ITS rendition of WEBGui content, then according to OSS Note# 197746 the WAS6.4 Integratred ITS should do the job.
Yet, till I get my hands wet with custom ESS 50.4 ITS templates upgraded to EP6.4 SP9, then I can assure the results.

"As of release 6.40 of SAP Web Application Server the SAP Web AS Kernel includes a subcomponent called "SAP Integrated ITS". This component is the successor of the "standalone" ITS releases up to and including release 6.20. Since this component is integrated into SAP Web AS the rules that apply to the Kernel also apply to the SAP Integrated ITS.
Information on patches and maintenance periods for SAP Web AS Kernel can be found in OSS notes 19466 and 138704.
The Integrated ITS can only be used to run SAP GUI for HTML and IACs of the SAP System it is part of. Therefore there are no longer questions in regards to downward or upward compatability. Since the Integrated ITS consists of executables being part of the Kernel and templates, MIMES, etc. being part of SAP_BASIS you can only use the Integrated ITS if you have both SAP Web AS Kernel 6.40 and SAP_BASIS 6.40 or higher installed."

Hi Anand,
Seems like you failed to complete the pre-installation steps...
As far as i can see there a Mount access failure, meaning the shares or mounts necesary for the installation are either unavailable or the user <sap>sid don't have enough rights to use it.
Check all your pre-intallation steps (included on the installation guide available at SAP Marketplace) and try it agian.

I'd like to know, what's the difference between R/3, mySAP ERP, SAP ERP 2004 (or other terms). Sometimes I see R/3, sometimes ERP... I'm a little bit confused.

SAP R/3 is package which is available in different versions 3.1i,4.6c,4.7. mySAP ERP 2004 i.e. ECC 5.0 and mySAP ERP 2005 i.e. ECC 6.0 are advanced versions of SAP R/3.

actually I don't see a difference as "mySAP2004" is not an official name for anything
There is "mySAP ERP 2004" which is the marketing name for a bunch of functionality provided by several different bits of software components.

Could you help me which files i need to download from market place?

But where is the sapinstall.exe `?!?!
I need it till tomorrow, i hope you could help me...
I dont have any SAP - System installed on this system. On another i have the crm 7, but we want it seperate.
Is ERP and ECC the same one?

Before starting any installation or upgrade project ,please please go through the installation guide ,master guide and other such guide from service market place
Believe me they are the best practice guide cretaed by SAP and has everthing which is requred from prepartion to execution to after care of system .
The CD's needed for installation or upgrade will be metioned in master guide itself with cd number .
If you still have any doubt after that please let us know here

I also met the error. I doubt that it can not run the statement: exec sp_bindefault 'str_default','A305.KAPPL'. I want to test it manually, but I don't know the password of the user(same name as instance). anyone know it. In addition to, did you install the IDES on one virtual machine? I installed it on one virtual machine. someone thought that it cause the result.

SAP ERP 2005 ECC 6.0 with Windows 2000 Application Server

Hi,
We are currently running SAP 4.6C in iSeries model 570 OS V5R3.
I would like to know after upgrade from 4.6C to ERP 2005 ECC 6.0 if we will gain any performance improvement by adding Windows 2000 Application Servers in our environment. Second Question - how much load will be taking away from the iSeries if adding one application server (Memory and CPU).

How any CPUs ?
How much memory ?
You are on 4.6C ASCII right now ?
In your case, I don't see, that Win 2003 servers help in performance, I would guess, that the CPU after the upgrade is about 60% which is still ok - then using 3-tier - especially in R3 environments is mostly not good for the performance because of the DB time increasement.
The memory you will need is pretty the same for the iSeries.

I really like this error ...
it happens in 100% nof all ECC 6 upgrades - and obviously SAP likes it as well ...
You have to change the file as Guido suggested and write in a "*" instead of the local server name - otherwise localhost is not allowed ...

Access to SAP Netweaver 2004s --- ECC 6.0

Good evening....
The question is: Must I install the java engine in my sap ECC 6.0 to access via web to SAP or isn't necessary ???
I've read in the marketplace and I think isn't necessary but I need to be sure.
I'll can access via web (internet explorer) to my SAP without install the java engine ???

if using SAPGUI through the internet, you do not heed JAVA.
if you want to go through a browser, I cannot say.

Source system icons changes when connecting SAP BW to mySAP ERP 2004

Hi,
Just an Interesting observation in relation to the creation of source systems in SAP BW to SAP Web AS 6.40 based systems (mySAP ERP 2004, mySAP SRM, etc).
I thought it would be interesting to share!
The behavior is logical but can be a surprise for a BW administrator who is not aware of the new internal SAP BW systems within mySAP ERP 2004.
Scenario:
The customer was connecting a stand-alone BW system to two new systems with latest and greatest mySAP ERP 2004 (ECC 5.00) and mySAP SRM.
Observation:
In the past the SAP R/3 source system would be created with a "SAP R/3 icon" indicating a SAP Source system.
As of mySAP ERP 2004, the source systems will be created in the SAP BW standalone system with the "SAP BW System icon".
Note: This is also the same behavior for new releases of mySAP SRM, and other SAP applications that are based on SAP Web AS 6.40 or greater
Why?:
The standalone SAP BW system is connecting to a system that contains an internal SAP BW system. The standalone SAP BW system determines that it is possible to extract both from the internal BW System and from the Plug-in extractors. It simply denotes that this source system is a SAP BW system and uses the BW Source system icon. (Remember SAP BW is client independent*!).
Note: This behavior will still occur even if you do not use the internal SAP BW system within mySAP ERP! It is there whether you use it or not.
Second Note: You can still use the ERP Content extractors from the mySAP ERP Source System as you did in prior releases.
Another related observation:
I would expect that this case will probably be true even if you only use the internal SAP BW.
Scenario: You use the internal SAP BW in another client in the mySAP ERP system than your ERP processing.
Result: The connection between the BW client and the ERP client source system(s) (i.e. client 001 for ERP, client 100 for BW), both the 'myself' and ERP client source systems, will show up as BW source systems!
Source system 001 and source system 100 will be displayed as SAP BW icons because SAP BW is client independent*
user master and authorizations are client dependent

Here I select Use - but i get an error : Error in source system'.

SAP NetWeaver 2004s SR 1 SP9 INSTALL

I spent last week trying to install SAP Netweaver 2004s SR 1 SP9 in XP SP2 with no success.
The JDK version is 1.4.2_09 and the install process fail in step "Import Java Dump", the sapinst.log indicates the error:

Can we run ERP 2004 XSS applications in combinations with NW04s XSS 600?

Want to know if we can run ERP 2004 XSS applications in combinations with NW04s with 2004s BPx (XSS600)?
So our Portal is NW04s with J2EE engine 7.0 and our ECC system runs Xss 100.

The business packages ESS/MSS for SAP ERP 2004 and SAP ERP 2005 can be installed and used in parallel in Enterprise Portal (EP) NW04s, only if
ECC 5.0, XSS 500 on J2EE 6.40 is linked to BP ESS/MSS (SAP ERP 2004) and
ECC 6.0, XSS 600 on EP NW04s is linked to BP ESS/MSS (SAP ERP 2005)
