Information platform services in BODS 4.0

What are the pros and cons of using information platform services that come with Data Services 4.0 and if we use Data Services 4.0 with information platform services from BOE4.0?

Depends on what you want to do.
IPS is the light version of BOE.
IPS contain only the Adaptive job and process server plus FRS and CMS.
BOE i can't list all of them but it is an Enterprise BI product  which has server handling reporting such as Webi crystal report ect ...
in another word you need at least IPS in order to use DS4 if you need to do BI stuff you will need BOE.
let me know if that helps i tried to make sweet and short ;).

  • Help - Broken Information platform services

    Hi,
When we originally set up Data services we set it up under the system account.  Last week I changed it to a domain account (I changed the account in the windows services manager for both the BOEXI40Tomcat & BOEXI40SIAAUNDDMSETL01 services).
I thought everything had worked fine until this morning when I went to login into the 'Information management services central management console'.  When I do this I get a tomcat error.  I know tomcat is running as the 'Data Services management console' works fine.
Any ideas ?  I'm thinking maybe there is another service i've missed or a config file I have to change.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Leigh.

  • Platform service is unavailable

    Hello -
I am running OWB 10.2.0.1 on a Linux x86-64 platform and am unable to start the control center service. After ensuring the ORACLE_HOME is set correctly, as well as the ORACLE_SID, I go to the following directory:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/owb/bin/unixI then run the local_service_login.sh file via the following command:
./local_service_login.sh -startup $ORACLE_HOMEThe correct login screen pops up and I am able to enter in my credentials (the repository owner credentials). After hitting enter, it acts just as I think it should but when I attempt to enter the Control Center Manager from the Design Center, it pops up the error RTC-5301stating the Control Center Service is not currently available.
I have tried all sort of combinations of logging out of the Design Center and logging back in/starting up and stopping the control center service but the same error continues to plague me.
After peforming a little bit of research, I discovered that you could also start up the control center service via the start_service.sql file in the $ORACLE_HOME/owb/rtp/sql directory. So, I logged on as the repository owner, executed the start_service.sql file and received the following message:
    Not available
    Diagnostics:
service startup failure using command "/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh -manual 1
    OWB_REP_OWNER 192.168.0.7 1521 OWB" reason ORA-29532: Java call terminated by u
    ncaught Java exception: java.io.IOException: can't exec: /owb/bin/unix/run_serv
    ice.sh doesn't exist
I then ran the show_service.sql file and received the following message:
    Not available
I then ran the service_doctor.sql file and received the following message:
All PL/SQL packages and functions are valid
Platform properties have been loaded correctly
Platform location has been seeded correctly
NLS messages have been loaded correctly
The platform service is not available
There is a problem accessing the service startup script from the database server
Here is the detailed error message which contains the name of the start script file:-
Service startup file 'null/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh' is not accessible from the database server on instance number 1
Please verify that the disk containing the file is visible to the database server
Please verify that the database server account has access rights on the fileConnection information stored within the repository is correct
I found it a little curious that the ORACLE_HOME was null in the above message, seeing as I have double checked millions of times via the 'env' command in Linux and verified that ORACLE_HOME is in fact populated correctly (perhaps this is not how ORACLE retrieves the ORACLE_HOME, however. In which case, how does ORACLE retrieve the ORACLE_HOME?). I have attempted to review the PL/SQL that OWB generates and uses in the start_service.sql file, but could not read it because the code is 'wrapped'.
Is this a bug that anyone else has dealt with, or am I just overlooking something. I have read other posts about this topic for previous releases and did not find a solution that has yet worked. Any help would be awesome,
    Mark
P.S. I should also mention that I am running everything OWB related through a VNC client (because my machine is a Windows machine while my client has OWB loaded on a Linux machine). When I start the control center service from my Windows machine for my client's OWB instance, the control center service does become available and everything is hunky-dory. However, this will not be a great solution once I pass the knowledge on to them and they start running everything from that Linux box via a VNC client as well (their repository is not located on the same network that their developers currently develop on, and since OWB is very chatty, this is the solution we have chosen to implement).

As you stated in your first post, it is really odd having NULL in the error message:
Service startup file 'null/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh' is not accessible from the database server on instance number 1At this point, I can only give you few suggestions of what I'd look for...
Check if there's OS restrictions acessing the file. Can you perform a "chmod 777 run_service.sh" and retry? Still, I don't really think this is the reason.
It seems like the Repository Assistant software, for some reason, does not recognize the ORACLE_HOME variable. I thought that could be due to having more than one Oracle Home, that this could cause conflicts, but i guess i was wrong.
Plus, check the UTL_FILE_DIR parameter, in the instance you are runing the sql script. Try to include the $OWB_HOME\owb\bin\unix directory in this. Not sure this is going to help.
Also, try to run run_service_local.sh instead of run_service.sh.
I know this sounds stupid, but, did you bounced your server? I had this same issue few years ago, but it was a different OWB and DB version. Restarting database used to work, but I can't assure this will help you. And I guess you don't want to restart it every single time the runtime platform service fails...
You may also look at this and see it helps you in any way:

  • Dashboards with BICS connectivity and Infoview (BO4.0 Information Platform)

    Hello All,
I have worked on Xcelsius 2008 with BICS connectivity to consume BEX Queries,
and I'm aware that its not possible to export BICS based dashboards to BOE.
But with the latest BO 4.0 release,
I understand that BICS connectivity is inbuilt in BOE and we can consume BEX queries directly to create WEBI Reports.
    so my question is :
in the latest version of Xcelsius ( Dashboards ),
is it possible to Export Dashboards based on BICS to BO Information platform (4.0)???
or is it still published in BW server only like the earlier (2008) version??
To be able to create BEX based dashboards published on Info platform ,
is QAAWS/Liveoffice still the only available possibility???
    Appreciate the help ,
as we need to propose high level architecture to a customer who want to use Information platform as report
delivery tool, and use BW as backend.
    Thanks and regards,
    Vinay
    Thanks and regards,
    Vinay

    Hello Tracy,
Thanks a ton for the response.
But in our case the customer does not plan to have Enterprise portal integration.
So to be able to Deploy dashboards directly to Infoview from BEx query, will the below architecture work?
1.Creating WEBI (4.0) document from BEX Directly  ( new functionality with 4.0)
2.Create BI web service or Live office document
3.Consume the same from Xcelsius and deploy into BOE.
This will internally use BICS as it is internally used to create WEBI docu in 4.0.
Let us know if there are any limitations with this architecture.
    Thanks and regards,
    Vinay

    Hi
As I see your error message: "Service startup file 'null/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh' is not accessible from the database server on instance number 1", I think that your ORACLE_HOME is not set in your unix/linux enviroment (null = no ORACLE HOME). Check this enviroment variable, and set it, if it has not set yet.
And "use the 'set_repository_password.sql' script to reset the stored password" because your parameters not set: "Cannot connect: user=null host=null port=null service-name=null"

    Open Registry Editor.
In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
Create the following value (REG_SZ): Working Directory and give it a value that points to the new database folder.
Make sure you back up the registry before you do any changes on it.

  • Unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service from command line - Win81 MS Office 2013 SP1

I'm unable to restart the Microsoft Software Protection Platform service on a Windows 8.1 laptop for MS Office 2013 SP1 (32-bit) using the following command:
    cscript ospp.vbs /osppsvcrestart (issued from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15)
When this is run, a window appears with the title ospp.vbs and the text "Error: The Software Protection Platform service is not installed"
I verified that the service is installed in services.msc, and was able to manually stop and restart the SPP service in the Services console without issue.
The command runs correctly when restarting the MS Office 2013 SPP on Windows 7 devices.
Has anyone else seen this or have a solution for it?
The reason that I am attempting to restart the service from the command line is because this command is part of a script to change the KMS server IP Address used by OSPP prior to software activation.
The only other options that I have at this time is to ask the users to reboot, or manually force a reboot.  This is both time consuming and disruptive to the users.
The Fix It tool to remove MS Office 2013 was run, and the MS Office 2013 software was successfully reinstalled after a reboot.  The software was successfully activated.  When the command was run, it produced the same exact error.

    Hi,
I am able to reproduce this on my own machine, but in my case, I don't see the specific service running in the Services console.
I would like first confirm that whether you've the right service running on your Windows 8.1 system. The display name of this service should be "Office Software Protection Platform", service name is "osppsvc".
You can also check this by going to below path where you should see the executable file (OSPPSVC.EXE) if the service is installed on your system (in my case, the folder is empty):
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform

After this error, i treid to send email again and there is no error and email was delivered. What was the cause of this error?
    Hasan

    Hi,
I tried to start seeding again but it is at same status. I will try again and hopefully it will get resolved.
But, yesterday i ran in to the most complex issue i have ever seen with Exchange.
There was a unexpected power cut at our datacentre due to which both the nodes went down.
After that both the nodes came up. But the all 3 databases were dismounted.
Therefore, i ran Eseutil /mh resulting dirty shutdown.
I was able to repair 2 databases.
But the 3rd one was not mounting with below error.
    Microsoft Exchange Error
Failed to mount database 'Mailbox Database'.
    Mailbox Database
    Failed
    Error:
Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: XXXXX\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database; Error code: MapiExceptionJetErrorAttachedDatabaseMismatch: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-1216).
I was able to mount database somehow. There are 7 User mailboxes (Tier 1) on this database.
All emails sent to the users in this database are bouncing back with the below error.
This storage groups holds the mailboxes of my Senior Managements. And their mailboxes are down for almost 20 Hrs. I am spinning my head since yesterday but not able to find any fix. Can you please guide me in this concern.

  • Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service. - Error 0x96f.

PLease help, I've rstored from backup three times with no success I'm getting the following error
"Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service.   - Error 0x96f. "
It's LDap related but i have no idea why :-(
    Best Regards Bernhard

IPv6 had been disabled for months on my SBS 2008 Server running Exchange 2007 SP1.  I ran 40 or so Windows Updates; subsequently, the next morning Exchange was no longer running; topology issues, event ID 2604, 2114 and 2601 were all over my Application
Log.  After 12 hours of research I found this post; figured it was worth a shot and instantly all my services for Exchange fired up.  Thanks for the tip; I have no idea which update changed what in regards to needing IPv6 enabled, but that silly
    little check mark fixed it.
Thank you for sharing your solution!

  • Not able to uninstall or install Platform Services 6.1.3

I need to reinstall Platform Services 6.1.3 to my Windows 7 64.
Unfortunately during un-installation the PC was restarted, and now I'm not able to either install or uninstall it.
I don't see uninstall option in control panel or programs menu, and when I try to install from platformservices613654721_x86_64pc-win32.exe I'm getting error saying that I need to uninstall it first (platform services are installed and need to be uninstalled first)
I tried to remove all PlatformServices keys from registry - it didn't help, probably I didn't find the one to deceive the installer.
I tried system recovery - but it failed because wasn't able to access some files.
So, I'm stuck with this problem which looks simple at first.
Please, help me to remove Platform Services. Is there any option for FORCE uninstall or something? Any way to deceive that "great" installer?

  • Exchange Server 2013- Information Store Service not starting

    Hi Everyone,
We are having an issue with one of our Exchange Servers that is running Exchange Mailbox server role.
    Server : Exchange 2013 CU3 , Windows Server 2012 R2
We noticed on Friday that its "Information Store Service" has stopped working and we try to manually run it (Services->Microsoft
Exchange Information Store Service -> Start)
Service didn't start and gave : Error 0x80004005 Unspecified Error
Trying to start the service using the command line using:  net start MSexchangeIS gave us a different error:
    System Error 16389 has Occurred
The system can not find message text for message number 0x4005 in the message file for BASE
Event viewer has  (Event ID : 7031):
The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
Since we have got this error we have tried some fixes such as  Checking Time synchronisation  and IPv6 issues. But nothing
seems to have caused this. We have rebuild the windows server from scratch and used the recover server switch to  rebuild the Exchange server. Still the same issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Tiraj,
Any update? Does the issue still occur after install Exchange server on Windows Server 2012?
I wonder if the issue occurs suddenly or did you configured something on database.
In addition, overload on server could also cause the issue.
