As a installation prerequisite, we used to save the /etc/hosts file as follows.
IP hostname.domain.com hostname
This instance will be exposed to the internet using following url.
http://urlname.domain.com/
Now what should I put in the /etc/hosts file.
IP hostname.domain.com hostname
or
IP urlname.domain.com urlname
And during DB and App configuration during installation what should I put?
hostname or urlname?

Now what should I put in the /etc/hosts file.
IP hostname.domain.com hostname
or
IP urlname.domain.com urlnameIP hostname.domain.com hostname

I read the ssh wiki article which teaches to add an entry to /etc/hosts.allow for sshd. I am know that tunneling vnc through sshd is the way to go security wise, however, there are cases where I need to switch on un-encrypted vnc for the purposes of sharing my X11 session with family members. Anyway, my question deals with an entry in the /etc/hosts.allow for gnome's desktop sharing (which is vnc as I understand it). Does anyone know the syntax to allow vnc for any incoming connection (default port of 5900).
I have tried:
vino: ALL
Xvnc: ALL
X11vnc: ALL
None of which worked.

/etc/hosts error

Hello,
I'm trying to follow the cookbooks to install rac/linux/vmware on xp professional. Whenever i try and install the CRS I get an error message that says
The local node entry in Cluster Configuration inforamtion does not match with the entry in /etc/hosts file. Verify local node information in /etc/hosts file and re-enter the correct value.
I have followed the instructions and can't see where I have gone wrong. Can someone point me in the right direction...

My nslookups, and /etc/hosts match up across the nodes, for the private and public networks, and the Cluster is created and looks good from clverify.

I'm having some issues in our QA system
The SE80 objects attached to a transport & transported no problem.
I had to manually add the ICF objects onto a transport but I got 'em there
I had to manually create the Service and Endpoint definition in SOAMANAGER
Unfortunately in our QA system I'm getting the following error in SOAMANAGER.

I haven't seen this before but I had a quick look at SAP Note 1319507 & it gives a clear indication of how to fix this with report WSS_SETUP. Did this approach in the note not work?
One more point...I'm not sure which ICF objects you manually added but in general you would just transport the SE80 objects. Once the SE80 objects are QA you would then re-do the SOAMANAGER (service & endpoint) configuration, this would then add the ICF nodes automatically.

How could a java process bypass etc\hosts file while doing dns lookup ?

I am developing a java web proxy and developer tool [http://www.tcpcatcher.org|http://www.tcpcatcher.org] .
Right now it is working as a none transparent web proxy.
In some situation and for some hosts, I would like to turn it into a transparent web proxy.
Suppose, user's browser and java proxy are running on same host (typically on localhost). An entry is added in etc\hosts file, for example:
127.0.0.1 google.com
So without any change in browser config , if user visits google.com with its browser , http request is received at proxy level.
Now my proxy has to get the actual ip address of google.com bypassing the etc\hosts file (right now the proxy is doing a loop on itself).
Any idea how this could be achieved ?
Am I searching in wrong direction ?

This is a shot in the dark, but I'll try anyway.
Take a look at dnsjava (open source, I never played with it).
My understanding is that using this to resolve names instead of normal Java API's would allow you to bypass etc/hosts in the java code
(see [http://old.nabble.com/DNS-Resolve-from-hosts-file-first-then-DNS-Server-td15431381.html]).

Supported Configurations for VDI 3.1

I have a question about the supported configurations for VDI 3.1.
We have a small office where we would have only about 12-15 desktops and would be using the VirtualBox virtualization platform with VDI. The standard vbox configuration recommends 4-5 servers depending on whether you have one of the VirtualBox hosts sharing a machine with the primary VDI node or not. The only other supported configuration is a single host configuration where everything resides on one physical host (and thus one big single point of failure).
My question is can you have a modified version of the single-host configuration for small office environments? For example, I have two X4240 servers with 4x 136GB hard drives each. I know the VDI hosts need to be on three different hosts to satisfy the MySQL clustering configuration. So can I have something like the following on only three boxes?
[Sun VDI Primary] on a small (Dual Core CPU, 2 or 4GB RAM) X86 server
[Sun VDI Secondary + Virtual Box desktop services + Storage services] on X4240 (2x Quad Core CPU, 16GB RAM)
[Sun VDI Secondary + Virtual Box desktop services + Storage services] on X4240 (2x Quad Core CPU, 16GB RAM)
I'm just trying to design a configuration for a small office environment that uses the fewest servers but at the same time is not one big single point of failure as would be the case with a single host configuration.

Just simply load balancing? Or something more?I often encounter potential customers who'd be interested to buy Sun VDI but they shy away from such thoughts because they realise that the VMware ESX license costs they would have to spend money for will be killing them financially. And they don't see VirtualBox as a "good enough" alternative: It's a "toy", it can't do live migration (e.g. with VMware if they wanted that feature one day they could simply license it and "unlock" it), it's not a bare metal hypervisor ....
So now I could at least counter the point about VirtualBox not being able to do live migrations because now it can do that and there are no additional licenses to pay and no features to unlock. The feature is there from start. So that's good.
But the other issues remain: it's not "bare metal". It would have been nice to have some sort of true "VirtualBox Server" or "VirtualBox for VDI -- Bare Metal Edition". Sun had such a product in the pipelines: "Sun xVM Server" ... but this product was killed after EA #2. Silly move, IMHO. It would have been wiser to finish this product and then have Sun VDI support it as virtualisation backend as well.
Talking of which: Any chance that Sun VDI might one day support the various XEN-based products that exist? If I am not mistaken Sun's "xVM" hypervisor in Solaris/OpenSolaris is in principle just another XEN implementation too. And then there is "Oracle VM" .... so in light of the merger with Oracle I'd say it would make sense if Solaris xVM and Oracle VM/Xen were supported as well. I find it odd that XEN-based products which are widely used in certain circles (e.g. Universities) are being omitted but that there is support for Microsoft Hyper-V which is so brand new and still so lacking in the features department that it is hardly used by anyone except by some paid "early adopters" ...

The VDI Demo is not a supported production environment configuration, but the "All on One Host" configuration is fully supported as long as you have an extra support contract with MySQL to cover the InnoDB engine.

Prerequisites to configuration for ABAP Proxy -???

My scenario is file->XI->R/3(abap server proxy).
Xi and R/3 are 2 seperate business systems
-Abap server proxy created on R/3 business system. R/3 client 550
-Xi client 400.
-SLD is common for both XI and R/3
My question is in reference to the below message thread:
1.I understand all the below configuartaion has to be done on R/3 business system, tell me am I correct
2. are these configuartion needed for client proxy as well as server proxy also?

Editing etc\hosts file on windows xp for apps. problem post installation.

Hi all,
I was able to install 11.5.10.2 apps on my win xp prof machine. During that process I had to edit the etc/hosts file in windows directory as a work around for that domain name field during installation. Also added the primary DNS suffix as 'suneel.com' . I gave the domain name as 'suneel.com' during installation. The RapidWiz is taking localhost as the system name and referring to this system as localhost.suneel.com, though the actual system name is 'websoft-xp' .
The host file on Apps machine has the following entries:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost.suneel.com suneel.com
127.0.0.1 websoft-xp.suneel.com
So when I connect to apps login server from other systems in lan, I've to edit their hosts file and add an entry for localhost.suneel.com to point to its ip address or else the apps throws an error after logging in as operations/welcome using a different url say 192.168.1.4:8000 . Is there a way to get around this issue?
More over I'm not able connect to VIS db from other systems. The oracle clients give an error 'No listner' at this address. (The original listener was listening at localhost.suneel.com:1521). So I tried to create a new listerner from Net Manager that actually listens at websoft-xp (the real system name) but it throws me an error 'A valid log file is required' while saving the network configuration and prevents me from saving the network configuration.
Did I do something wrong with the hosts file during installation or did i miss any entries in that file thats causing this? Any solutions for the above problems will be appreciated?

Well I tried that option but for some reason it didn't work for me. It kept giving the tns:connection closed error. Then I searched in metalink and found this note : Note:333158.1
It suggested setting tcp.validnode_checking = no
in sqlnet.ora. in
F:\oracle\visdb\9.2.0\network\admin\VIS_websoft-xp
And it works. Hope this helps someone facing a similar problem. Good luck.
BTW how do I run autoconfig?

Hi, I have installed vmware 5.5 hypervisor on hp G8 microserver. I have created one vm as windows 2008 R2. I have also install vmware workstation 11 on this vm. In this workstation when I tried to run vmware 5.5 hypervisor I come across "This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host does not support Intel VT-x" this statement. Which shows that the host machine does not support virtualization and for that you need to go in Bios and enable it but in present case as host machine is also a vm and you would not find much detail of Bios when you log into the Bios therefore, I am pretty much stuck here. BizTalk 2013 SFTP Adapter : Host Instance configured for SFTP Receive cause high CPU usage

Hi,
Our BizTalk 2013 Server test env have 16 GB RAM. We have one SFTP Receive Location which is using a dedicated Host instance for SFTP receive.
As soon as we start this SFTP Host Instance it starts consuming 50-60% CPU. (Even when it is not handling any file receive)
As suggested in below thread, to fix this issue, we changed the SFTP RL default configuration. i.e. Changed polling interval from default 0 sec to
10 minutes and also changed the RL Schedule window to business hours only.

Even after changing the RL configuration , the Host Instance continuously consumes ~60% CPU.
Any suggestions to troubleshoot more on this issue ?

This is one of the issue which has already been raised to Microsoft and hopefully a public build will be available soon in next cumulative update pack .
There are variety of reason for this starting for password mismatch or password not given , SFTP adapter unable to connect and so on .

Another greate artcicle is by Nino which states these issues .SFTP adapter is protocol sensitive and some configuration by server side, can cause a lot of crazy situations

I have just created my First website using Muse and Its all been uploaded to my FTP server but i cant access the in browser editing which was the whole reason why i re-done the website for my client using muse
its saying the following

Yet i Can access my website fine "www.calmwood.com.au"
My ftp server responds to either the IP Address or the DNS Address www.calmwood.com.au
so i am not understanding how it thinks its different. when its fully referenced
any help would be appreciated.

Code for restoring default permissions to etc/hosts?

Could someone help me with the proper code for setting the permissions on etc/hosts to their proper default setting?

sudo chmod 644 /etc/hosts
sudo chown root:wheel /etc/hosts
Those are the settings on my iMac.
If you use an editor such as
sudo nano /etc/hosts
you will most likely not have these problems.
If you are a more experienced Unix user, then vim or emacs are good choices as well, but both of those editors have steep learning curves.
