Information windows hide themselves

Why is it that the Windows 7 version of windows hides information windows and frequently other types of windows from view behind other windows. Often no notice of the window is even present in the taskbar and therefore can cause the user to believe the computer
is locked up when its merely waiting for user input. If the most recent window open were to be pushed to the foreground always, it would eliminate the need to when something is not working to minimize all windows in case there's a message lurking that can't
be seen. I find this quirk of 7 intensely annoying at best.

WIndows hide whenever I change to another app

Hey guys, I don't know if I changed with a setting or something, but something strange is happening. When I click on an open application in the dock to start working on it, the rest of the open windows that are open hide themselves. If I click on them, they reappear, but the window I just clicked on hides itself as well.
So only one program can be seen at a time, anyone have an idea as to why this might be happening?

It is possible that a hidden "Dock" setting has become enabled - if so, it wouldn't have happened by accident because there is no GUI for that setting in OS X, however some third-party software could have been responsible.
If this behaviour only happens when switching applications via the "Dock", and not when using "Cmd-Tab" or the "Finder", etc., try opening "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering these commands:<pre>defaults delete com.apple.dock single-app
osascript -e 'tell application "Dock" to quit'</pre>

How do you get to the "Multiple Item Information" window so I can click "Part of a compilation:?

How do you get to the "Multiple Item Information" window so I can click "Part of a compilation"? When I transfer a CD to iTunes, and the CD has ten tracks, it loads as ten different albums. Also, once this happens, do I have to delete the album and start over or is there a way to merge the albums in iTunes? Using iTunes 10.04.08.

And you've made me remember that using the compilation flag may only work in iTunes if you go into the Songs view, then use View > Column Browser > Show Column Browser and then View > Column Browser > Group Compilations to make sure this line is ticked.
It is also best if View > Column Browser > Use Album Artists is also ticked.

Changing "file type" in Link Information Window (CS3)

Hola,
I am having a problem in Indesign (CS3), and I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help.
I'm a student updating an older .INDD file for a 47 page book. The pages were all updated as .AI files, but for some reason
3 of the pages in our InDesign document were assigned a .PDF "file type" in the Link Information window. When I try and "Relink" to the updated .AI files,
the program won't link to the .AI file. It will properly re-link to a .PDF version of the file.
Is there a way to reset that "file type" in the Links Window from .PDF to .AI?
Ultimately I can use .PDF versions for this, but I'd prefer to have them all .AI files.
That would be cleaner and easier for the next students down the road who are going
to inheriet this project. It seems like this should be an easy thing to do, but I can't figure it out...

Thank you for the quick reply! I now suspect that I didn't correctly identify the problem.
In the Links Panel for 44 of the 47 pages, they read pathname/*.AI, so no problem there (although the file type is also .PDF in the link window for those 44 pages that can link to the .AI).
For three of the pages though, when I try and link them to pathname/*.AI, I get an error message in the document that indicates that "this is an Adobe Ilustrator file that was saved without PDF content". When I relink those three to pathname/*.pdf, they work.
So I'm thinking at this point that the problem isn't Indesign, but with the original .AI files that I'm trying to link to. I also suspect that my original idea to change the "file type" in the Links Panel to ".AI" is incorrect, since it's a .PDF file type for all of the 47 pages in this document!

Can't highlight and copy text from the Podcast Information window

With previous versions of iTunes I was able to convert Podcasts to AIFF files in my music library and then copy the track notes and text from the information window pane in Podcasts. With iTunes 8, I can get the information windows to pop-up but the text is not highlightable. Any ideas how I can cut and paste the info? thanks.

I think I finally figured out the copy paste podcast thing and I do not know why I did not think of this earlier.
Instead of clicking on the "i" symbol to get the information about the podcast to come up in the window that you cannot copy and paste from, hit command i or File> Get Info. The window that opens is just like the one that opens when you get info from a track in your regular music library. You can copy and paste from this one, even if it is a Podcast.

How do you close an information window when you can't see the close button?

One of my Macs is a trusty old G3 iMac and since version 8 I've had a problem with the information window you get for podcasts when you click on the 'i' button. The window goes to the full screen height, in fact it goes beyond because you can't see the top and button. Therefore I can't close it with the mouse or move it.
I also can't find a keyboard shortcut that will close this window, so I have to exit iTunes and re-start, which on this machine is a slow process.
Anyone help welcome - is there a keyboard shortcut?

...that's the sound of me hitting my head on the keyboard. I never knew about Command-W because, you know, it's only a menu option IN ALL THE APPLICATIONS I JUST LOOKED AT!
Oh well...you learn something every day...and I would like to point out that if you use OSX Leopard's help system and search for "keyboard shortcuts", Command-W isn't mentioned.

Captivate Project Information window on Flash player

I published a Captivate Project as an executable file for
Macintosh. When I click on the SWF file, it opens up in the Flash
player, and not in my browser. Also, the Project Information window
does not go away, even when I click on the close button. Some of
the buttons on the navigation bar don't work either, like Exit and
Forward. Has anyone come across this problem?

If you think it is a Flash Player bug, report it at https://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/
If Flash Player works fine on the release version of Firefox, then I suggest that you reinstall that version.

Stickie's note file information window. How do I turn them off?

These windows /certainly/ don't give information about what stickie can do. Try this. Open a sticky note. type something into it. then hold your cursor over the title bar, maybe m,ove it arfound once. Then wait, it takews a little time. You should then see the window I'm talking about open. I have 5 sticky notes open. I pressed the close button upper left corner on /one/ of them. I am asked, ? Am I sure I want to discard this stickie? No. I press SAVE (Big blue button). Then I go to a window that says export. I choose a folder or create a folder, or just save the thing. It is saved as a text edit (?) file. The only way I can get it back to be a stickie is to select copy paste from text edit file into a new stickie note. I should think Apple would realize that a user doesn't want a date log to come up in front on the stickie every time he's working on a a stickie. To reiterate,

When you open a popup window you create an instance of that window.
That instance needs to be destroyed on Action of your close button.

Rgb - cmyk numbers in information window

When I have the Information Window open, I can select to see the RGB and CMYK information about each pixel (or other info if I wish, such as Web color or Lab color ). I understand the RGB numbers are based on 255 (number of greyscale steps), and greyscale numbers are on percent, but what is the 'scale' of the CMYK numbers, what are they based on or showing me?
An example is the color with RGB values R255-B255 has CMKY values of C11-Y79. What do the 11 and the 79 mean?

value for each of the process inks. The lightest (highlight) colors
are assigned small percentages of process ink colors; the darker
(shadow) colors higher percentages. For example, a bright red might
contain 2% cyan, 93% magenta, 90% yellow, and 0% black. In CMYK
images, pure white is generated when all four components have values
of 0%.

Project Information Window?

How do I open the Project Information window in order to reorganize the memory? Where is the key command to open the project window?

Additional Info to save time...
In LPX using the default US Key Command Set.... you must assign a key to that Key Command to see the Project Info screen....
LPX Menu Item..... Logic Pro X / Key Commands / Edit....
Next... in the key Command edit window that will open.. search for Project Information...
...and then assign a key..
I use the "Learn by Key label" method and then just press the key combo I wish to assign.
The assignment I choose is SHIFT + OPT + CTRL + P but you can assign whatever you like so long as it's not already used....
In LP9 (Or the LP9 Key Command set if used in LPX) the default Key Command is CTRL + D
Note: In LPX default US Key Command Set... CTRL + D is used for another key command.

10.6. - file information window - 'open with' (program) can't be adjusted?

... but I am missing a handy feature. Maybe it has been moved somewhere else?
Usually when you click Cmd-I at a file to display it's information window you can adjust with which program that (and optional) other files of that kind should be opened.
I can only see the set program, but not where I can change it...
Maybe somebody has a hint for me?

today, after I had switched off my Mac over night and started it this morning, the 'Open with' dialog offered the pulldown-menu to choose a program as expected (and not only showed one program icon as it did yesterday... (but why didn't it after the installation yesterday/restart?)

Project information window always show

Greetings,
I published a Captivate project (a simple recording) as a
Flash movie and it is used in an Authorware project. When the movie
plays in the Authorware file, the Project Information Windows shows
from the beginning and it never goes away, even when I click its
close button.
A similar question was asked in this forum in July 2007, but
it was not answered.
Any tip will be much appreciated!
