Infosource and datasource connection

Hi Experts,
In the BI 3.5 business content, what is the best way to decide which datasource connects to which infosource? For example if i were to install BI content for SD i have about 8 datasources and 20 infosources and 6 cubes only.
How can i setup a dataflow based on Bi content only?
Should i make a decision based on the fields i am interested in? Please educate me on this.

Hi Krishna,
Go to RSA1--->, right mouse show data flow you can double click the elements.
On the Source systems you can see the relation between DS and IS.
Also try table RSOLTPSOURCE - field OLTPSOURCE for datasource,field BASOSOURCE for infosource.using 'show data flow' as mentioned, click 'technical name on/off' to have the technical name displayed.

7.0 DSO Activation creates 3.x InfoSource and DataSource

Hello experts,
Just wondering if the following is a normal behaviour or it's our system that has not been set up properly. After I create a new 7.0 DSO, I go to activate it and I noticed that it creates an infosource/datasource in 3.x version instead of the 7.0 version that I expected to see. Is this normal? If not, is there somewhere we can correct this?

Yes, It's normal .. During activation of DSO it generates export datasource i.e. 8DSO

Differences between jdbc connection and datasource connection

Hi all
What are the differences between javax.sql.datasource and java.sql.connection.
Is the datasource needed on in distributed databases or ??
In a distributed EJB enviornment, what happens if a component has a transctionattribute setting as SUPPORTS and tries to commit data - will the ejb container start a transaction though the setting is SUPPORTS.

What are the differences between javax.sql.datasource
and java.sql.connection.
Both are database connections. A connection is a handle to database. When you are directly creating a connection by calling Drivermanager.getConnection(..) , you are creating a connection by yourself and when closing close() on it, the link to database is lost. On the other hand when you get a connection from a datasource, when you call the close() on it, it will not close the link to database, but will return to a connection pool where it can be reused by some other classes. It is always better to use a connection pool because creating connections are expensive

hmmm..i am not sure. I think the container sets the commit and rollback points for it . so container will override database settings.

Data source: It provides the data of source system,created in source systenm side and then replicated in BW side.Itis one which provides the data available in the tables to the BW System.A group of fields which are coming from one or more tables is called as datasource.Data will not be resided in the datasource.It will be present in the Tables.Using Datasource we extract the data into BW.
_TYPES OF DATASOURCE: _
datasource for transction data
datasource for char attributes
datasource for texts
datasource for hierarcy (att,texts, hier are master data datasources)
InfoSource: It is the source of meaningfull data for data target...created in BW side..it is basically logical pool of data ( no physical storage) from one or different data source... It is on the BW which contains all the InfoObjects. It contains transfer structure and communication structure. Transfer structure is actually the structure similar to the R/3 Datasource structure and comm. structure contains all the InfoObjects.
in 3.5 it has two types of infosource... flexible update(transction data) and direct update (master data)
core parts: communiation structure and transfer structure...
and infosourc in 7 you logicallcy group striaght infoobjects......

DataMarts, Generated Export DataSources, Connecting DS to Infosources

I try to build a Data Mart Architecture and thereby an ODS with their Export DataSource gets connected with a InfoSource of an reporting cube. After generating the export DataSource, I replicated it. After this I tried to connect the InfoSource with the DataSource, but the system didnt display any custom generated DataSources (starting with 8*****) when I pressed the button select DS in InfoSource.
I checked the DataSource with RSA6 and it exist on BW myself system. I also tried insert lost nodes in Infosource and display generated objects in RSA1.
Has someone an idea what other problem it could be?

hello heiko,
There is a setting that enables you to view generated objects. Go to RSA1->Settings Menu->Display generated objects->Show generated objects.

Connection pool and datasource

In WL 7, we need to configure a datasource and a connection pool in order for the application to get a connection to the database. How is the datasource and connection pool related?
In WL 9.2, there is no option to configure the connection pool, there is only the option to configure the data source. Where did the connection pool go in WL 9.2?

It depends on the WLS version. pre-9.X, there can be more than one datasource pointing to a given pool,
but you do need a datasource typically to use a pool.

SOAP DATASOURCE and UD CONNECT

HI SAP GURUS,
I want to know the difference between the SOAP DATASOURCE and UD CONNECT.
in which scenairos we go for them.Can anybody enlighten me.

In short , you use SOAP to extract data from XML , and UD Connect ( which means Universal Data Connect ) with this you can extract any data from the relational ( tables ) or Multidimentional ( OLAP ) Sources, for this we need to have JDBC Drivers on the SAP Netweaver J2EE Engine Application Server.
For the connection to data sources, UD Connect can use the JCA-capable (J2EE Connector Architecture) BI Java Connectors that are available for various drivers, protocols and providers as resource adapters.

·        BI SAP Query Connector --
·        BI XMLA Connector -- ( you can query in BEx by linking the data from XML )

1. make sure that your datasources have activated (trans RSA5 in SAP Source System) from the SAP Source system (Ex: R/3 or SCM System)
2. after that you have to run trans RSA9 in SAP Source System to transfer new datasource in to BI System.
3. log-on into BI System, run trans RSA1, choose SourceSystem Tab in the left panel. Right click on to your SAP Source System then choose Replicate.
4. in the left panel choose BI Content tab, select infoObjects by infoArea.
5. then Click on Grouping, select in Dataflow Before and afterward. Click Collection Mode, select Collect Automatically.
6.in the middle panel, expand "Supply Chain Management" infoArea, select both Characteristics: Logistics General and Key Figures: Logistics General. Right click on it and select Insert Objects for Collections.
7. After the objects have been inserted into Collected Objects then choose install with option Install in Background.
8. Wait for the result.

In BI 7, info source is an optional object. You can directly connect the data sources to the data target and perform all the deletions, checks, validatins etc in the transformations. Before, you had 2 layers ; transfer rules and update rules.
As I said info source is optional, and SAP's recommendations to use info source is as follows:
"We recommend that you use an InfoSource if you want to connect a number of different DataSources to a target and the different DataSources have the same business rules. In the transformation, you can align the format of the data in DataSource with the format of the data in the InfoSource. The required business rules are applied in the subsequent transformation between the InfoSource and the target".
However, multiple transformations not only drag down the performance but also more objects to maintain.

Not able to find the infosource and transfer rules in the infosource tab

Hi everyone,
Not able to find the infosource and transfer rules in the infosource tab in Modelling. I was able to see that the infosource is available under nodesnot connected in the transport connection tab. But i cannot see the same in infosource tab. Please advise.

I have searched with technical name, I am not able to find it, but when i double click on the datasource .....the transfer rules pop up. Because I have not transported the application component, I am not able to find it. But even though it should be available on the nodesnotconnected, I still cannot see it. Is there a work around this ?
I have also tried rsa1old, it still could not find.

Loosing datasource connection in a server thread

Hi,
In a backing bean I start a long term thread that uses the datasource connection taken from application module.
Everything works fine but after a period of time between one and two hours the connection is lost and server throws a
<BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT 1 FROM DUAL" set up for pool "AEE2010DS" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLException: Connection Closed".>
Is there any way to stop the server from closing the connection that is used in a separate thread, programmatically or using configuration?

That looks like something external is killing the connection, either the DBMS or a firewall.

Error !! Cannot fetch a datasource connection

I am a beginner in Oracle BPEL process Manager,
i am experiencing the following error :
After starting the BPEL PM server, i got the following in the Dos Window:
" Message Handle error:
An exception occurred while attempting to process the message "com.collaxa.cube.engine.dispatch.message.process.SetDbDefaultMessage."the exception is tranaction was rolledback........"
then i tried also to open the BPEL console and i logged in , but i got
"Cannot fetch a datasource connectionThe process domain was unable to establish a connection with the datasource with the connection URL "jdbc/BPELServerDataSource". The exception reported is: Internal Error:Invalid Connect String
Please check that the machine hosting the datasource is physically connected to the network. Otherwise, check that the datasource connection parameters (user/password) is currently valid."
What could be wrong !

in OC4J_BPEL container, that is located under $AS_HOME/j2ee go to the config directory and open data-sources.xml.
it seems during installation you might have provided wrong information..
could you pls paste it here, that we can figure out what's wrong..
in what enviroment did this occur,
