Infra red on the Macbook
Dear All
Does the infra red port on the Macbook only work with the remote control used with Front Row? I tried sending something to the Macbook through infra red with my mobile phone because it does not have bluetooth, but it does not work. Is there something I am not doing or understanding perhaps?
Thank you
Veedeekay
A brief search with a popular search engine seems to confirm that you are correct. The only apparent purpose for the infrared interface is to use the Apple remote control.

I am trying to download photos taken with a canon camera that i had converted to Infra-Red. The custom white balance i have set in my camera is not coming through when I download to bridge. How can I tweak the download process to recognize the custom white balance. I can open the file in Canon software, save as tiff and then take into Bridge but this is an extra step.

Do a google search om converting infra Red and also check luminous landscape:
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/infrared%20dslr.shtml
Don't have experience with Infra Red modified camera myself but the solution seems to convert the files to grayscale with the HSL / grayscale section in ACR.
Try to experiment with this and if you are happy with an average setting you can save it as a setting.
Then you have a view options. Either open and select all the files in ACR and point to the corrected file, then use synchronize settings.
Or select all files in Bridge and with right mouse click menu choose develop settings and choose the saved IR setting to apply to all selected files at once.
Last option is to create this settings as default for your camera and with the option to use those settings specific for serial number it will set those file to grayscale after having build the cache. Now you have a good starting point and since it is a Raw file you can always alter the files wit tweaking or completely other settings. -
I have always used the apple TV remote for my presentations. I bought a retina display last year for the betterment of my presentations and now I have to stand near my computer and hit a button to change my slides where as before I used my remote. Will a infra-red adapter work with the apple TV remote in the macbook pro retina display? Love my computer, but very disappointed not to have a remote for presentations that does not need the internet. Does anyone have any ideas?
Yes, I used that and it works great if you have wireless connection. Im looking for a remote that worked like the apple TV remote. My questions is, "Is there a USB infra-red remote that works with mac. I have found this one: Keyspan EZ1 easy presenter. It claims with works with PC and Mac and the reviews are good. Does anyone know anything about it or if it works with retina display macs?

When I plug in my MacBook Pro to charge, the light is green for a minute and then it turns red and the plug gets very hot. The plug works fine on another computer and charges it. Why won't my MacBook Pro charge?

L'infra rouge n'est plus reconnu sur mon Mac / infra red is not recognized
Bonjour,
Merci !!
Hello, I recently installed the last updates of OS 10.4.8. Since, I
cannot use any more Front View and the remote: my mac reacts as if it
did not have infra red.
I saw various subjects of discussion on this subject, but all say to go in the preferences system > security tab, and to select activate IR. But the problem, in my case, is that my mac considers that it does
not have infra red, and well I do not have access to this
option!!!
I tried to reinstall front view, in vain: it does not want because
it considers that this application is not compatible with my system! !
Can you give me a blow of hand please??? Thank you!!Hello Nitrau,
Go to Apple > About this Mac > More Info - Click on USB on the left hand side and make that IR Receiver is listed.
If it is listed then pair your remote:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302545
If it is not then the computer is not identifiying the receiver.

For Intel based machines:
From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
Wait at least fifteen seconds.
Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
Press the power button to start up your computer.
For PPC based machines:
Turn off the computer by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu, or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.
Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
Wait 10 seconds.
Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
Let go of the power button.
Press the power button once more to start up your iMac.
If the IR still does not show up then run Apple Hardware Test from the disks that came with your computer to make sure that the IR receiver is detected.
If not then you should contact Apple for repair.
Hope that helps!

Question re: 1920x1200 RGB LED Display and the Macbook Pros LED display.
My question to the Apple guys here is. What type of LED technology is used in the MacBook Pro's LED display?
I just did a side by side with my buddies new 15" MBP and my new DELL Studio 1737 which has a 1920x1200 which has RGB LED display. I had it second day air FEdEx shipped because I was dying to see this new tech.
And did it blow us away, supposedly since its this new RGB LED it displays something around 98% or 110% of the NTSC color gamut very accurate for graphics and photo work.
My buddy almost dropped when we saw the color accuracy and differences with the MBP. And why hasn't Apple adopted this superior technology? What do you mean they don't have LED its right on the main page.
Read it carefully, it says "Ultrathin 15-inch LED-backlit display." The "LED-backlit display" part means that the backlighting is LED (as opposed to fluorescent), not the display panel itself (which is LCD).
...Dell has the RGB LED backlighting....
The Dell display you referred to is an RGB LED display, it doesn't have (or need) backlighting. It uses red, green and blue light emitting diodes to produce images, as opposed to a liquid crystal display, which uses color filtered backlighting to produce images.
its confusing why Apple has not adopted this new tech to its high end $3,000 MBP 17 models.
Yet. The 17" MBPs are reportedly due for a significant hardware revision next month. In any case, RGB LED displays have their own performance issues when compared to LCD displays, so don't get too excited, and they may not be thin enough to fit Apple's ultrathin design philosophy.
I have no idea what RGB LED was it just seemed better, and boy did it pay off.
I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with Windows Vista. -
Right, here goes!
I am looking to program an infra red transmitter to do various tasks. Initially (to get me started) I would like to be able to send TV remote control commands (e.g. change channel!). So where do I begin?!
I've seen a USB infra-red transmitter, but it looks as though USB programming in Java isn't so straightforward.
The end game is to be able to send signals via my web site, but that seems a long way off right now!
Thanks

The Java USB API is still in the public draft stage of the Java Community Process, so many aspects of the API are not very clear. The intent of the Java USB API is to provide a unified specification API that would allow developers and vendors to create drivers for their own application. This specification strives to provide a standard library for all platforms and is targeted for the J2ME and J2SE platforms. However we can hope that by the end of the JCP the specification team will provide a good API for USB access. It could throw open a wide range of devices and services into the market.
But, in the meantime you can search for any third party implementation for usb communication, if there is any.
good luck!!

to receive information. the information is sent using an
imbedded device (sends strings outside to anyone listens).
Where should I start ? my device supports java, is there a package
for implementing irda ? Can any midlet have access to the irda port ?
if not is there another way to use the low level API to do so ?
I stil don't know on which device I will activate the midlet ? is
this important ?

Thanks for the help BUT although your advice does work (I can synchronise after resetting phone), subsequent requests to sync fail for the same reasons given previously. There seems to be many similar problems on this forum - is this a fault with the phone and do I just have to put up with it? -
I have purchased a laptop which runs windows 7 64bit. I have read forums regarding hot syncing a z22 to my laptop and have suggested a infra red adaptor which i have since purchased, however i need help. I have installed the infra red adaptor and it is all go. I have changed the hot sync information on both laptop and device to say sync infra red. when turning on my device infront of my adaptor a message appears another device is nearby and an icon sits on the desktop. if you click on this a box appears on the laptop saying select the files anD folders you want to send to another infrared device and then click send. I stop here and go to my z22 and TAP the hot sync button however at this stage the icon on the desktop saying i am connected goes away and the z22 window appears not long after saying the connection between the device and the desktop could not be established check the connection. After this message the icon then appears back on the desktop. I have tried holding the z22 in all positions to get it to work. The other thing I tried was going back to the laptop message if of selecting the files to send to the infra red device. I found the file palm and for example the date book.mdb and sent that. The z22 then comes up with the message recieving datebook. The another window appears on the z22 saying data received in unknown format. The data cant be found. Any ideas i need help.
Hey with reference to my last message. I have since been able to hot sync with the infra red adaptor. Reading threw some other comments I spotted somthing I had'nt tried yet and that was push the reset button on my palm. Was a little hesitant at first thinking I would lose everything so done a backup on my old computer which is still running. The wala it worked I am so happy now I do'nt need to do to the expense of a new one......

Pocket PC Infra red connection to 6233
Hi
Can a Nokia 6233 establish an Infra red connection to a Pocket PC?
Want to download sim card in phone to Pocket PC like I used to do with the PSION.Hi beagle,
Welcome to the forum.
Do you get any kind of message after you input your password e.g. Limited Connectivity, or does the page just "hang" indefinitely?
Have you ever been able to access BT Fon with your login details?

Hi all,
My board has an IRDA header on it.....but where (in the UK) can I actually get an infra red receiver/transmitter jobby to connect to it? Reason is I want my Sony T610 to talk to my PC but it seems pointless buying a USB IRDA adapter if the board has the header already. Ideally i would like it as part of a card reader box that sits in a 51/4 bay (preff in silver ). Does anyone know where I can get one?
Thankshttp://www.firstphoneshop.co.uk/mobile-phone-infrared-adapters-ma-620/
thats what i ended up with
chances are evan if you could find one it might not work wit your next board -
I have a K7N2 Delta L motherboard and have decided for the first time to play around with infra red so I can send pics from the mobile phone to the computer, except I have absolutely no idea of where to start or what to do.
Could someone please help me out with this one.
Thanks heaps in advanceBuy a infrared eye
look at a piece of peper which shuold be with "eye" that states the layout of the connection pins
look into mobo instruction manual - there shuld be somewhere a description of the layout of mobo infrered connection pins
connect + to + , - to - , etc , and You may want to set bios option - I believe it's in peripherials setup or somethin like that - UART mode - to IRDA.
Now You're done, OS should detect BuilIn IRDA Device -
