Infrastructure Install

After installing Oracle Infrastructure 9.0.2 (Release 2) on Solaris 8, I get the message that the install and linking was successful. However, when the install proceeds to automatically run the configuration assistants about 8 of the processes fail. For the Oracle Net Configuration and Database Configuration Assistant I get messages such as, can't find file "/lib.../libjava.so" and "could not locate java runtime."
I've noticed that the emca and dbca scripts try to use JRE (v1.1.8). When I try running the jre under ORACLE_HOME/JRE/bin I get a message, "could not locate java runtime."
Am I missing an environment setting needed during the install (or later) that is causing these problems? I'm guessing that the 8 automatic starting of processes that fail after the Infrastructure install is related to a Java path issue?
I do have the environment settings set that are described in the Install doc and I did modify the kernel parameters. I believe I've setup everything properly before the install based on the install doc.
Any ideas?
-Brian

After looking on Metalink I found the problem and resolution. Doc ID: 212401.1 on Metalink.
The oracle account used to install the Infrastructure needs read AND write access to the parent directory of the directory specified for oraInventory (or equivalent). The installer needs to create two other directories at the same directory level as oraInventory.
After deinstalling, modifying permissions and reisntalling 9.0.2.0.1 Infrastructure, the java and jre problems went away.

  • DB and 10gAS infrastructure install...

    Hello:
We have an ERP product just like Oracle eBusiness suite (Oracle Applications) built using Oracle DB, Forms, Discoverer, Reports, Portal etc. for small and midsize companies (very low foot print compared to Oracle eBusiness suite). Our product is deployed/installed at customer sites who buy the product. Most of our customers are small and they would have one box for 10gAS and one for DB.
Based on above, we are debating how to install infrastructure DB and our applications database…
    1.     It is better to have the Infrastructure database on the same server as the Mid Tier as it installs by default? And then just connect to the application’s database on a separate database server (create a link from infrastructure to applications DB)?
    2.     Should we put the Infrastructure instance on the Database Server in a separate instance from the application instance?
    3.     Should we (or can we) put the Infrastructure in an instance on the database server and then add our application schema inside this same instance so we minimize the number of instances on the production database server.
    Please suggest…

Based on experience working with Application Server since the 8iAS days, one can install it in a very complex spread out manner. Unfortunately, the complicated deployments are almost impossible to upgrade. When Service Requests are created, it seems that the upgrade process is only really tested on the simplest configuration. If you want a supportable/upgradeable configuration, you may want to consider the simplest configuration as long as performance is acceptable during normal day to day operations.
One caveat to putting the application schema in the infrastructure database is you limit your database upgrades/patches to only those supported by the application server family.

  • Infrastructure Install Into Existing DB?

I have a box running 9i v 9.2.0.1 I need to use Infrastructure (for Discoverer). Is it possible to install the Infrastructure repository into an existing database so that I don't have to run two DB instances?

    Hi,
    Not yet..
The next release of 9iAS (9.0.4) will have support to install the infrastructure in an existing DB.

  • Oracle9iAS Infrastructure install

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle9iAS Infrastrcuture on Red Hat 8.0. I know it is not certified but don't have a choice at this point but to give it a try. The install went fine till the DBCA part where it blew up with an ORA 1503 error in creating control file. I tried to resolve it, but have not succeeded. Does anyone know a work around ? Also how do we bring up the configuration assistant to install the components that have not installed fine. Just the ones that failed. Do we have to uninstall and do a full re-install. Thanks for ur help.
    SV

    9iASR2 doesn't require a pre-installed DB (has a built-in 9i for Portal repository+OID = infrastructure). But maybe you already knew that ;)
To install R2 on a single PC:
    - install infrastructure in its own home
    - install 9iAS R2 in own its home
Beware of confusion (tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora) since you now have 3 different HOMEs. Also - please note that starting R2 on Win2K can be tricky since they need to be started an specific order (something not very clearly noted anywhere).
    Good luck!

Attempting to install a 10g Infrastructure (10.1.2.0.4) on an RedHat ES 4.0, update 2 Server (Brand new clean install of OS followed by install of Infrastructure.) System is a AMD64 3000+ with 2GB memory (we will be loading the AS on this same server, so we went with extra memory.)
Following the Installation guide to the letter (even caught and corrected the incorrect SHMMAX parameter value in the QIG)… All of the pre install steps completed. I see several others have done this without a problem so I home they can help… Ideas from anyone?
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael!
The problems I had with SSO were way different than your problems. What came to my mind is to check the network settings of the machine. What I usually do is to set the hostname and the domain in the /etc/sysctl.conf .I have a ES40u2 were I had no problems whatsoever.

    Hello,
I arrived on this thread by trying to install Oracle Portal 11.1.1.2 from scratch.
My environment is just for evaluating, so it is a vm with 6GB of RAM on 64b architecture.
    I've installed so far:
    OS: OEL5.6 - 64b
    DB: 11.1.0.7 -64b
AS: Weblogic - [10.3.5 from JAR, as this is available for 64b|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/wls-main-097127.html]
    OID - [11.1.1.2|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/oid-11g-161194.html]
so until now everything went pretty smooth.
Further according to the install guide for portal , I needed to install SSO.
So I continued to install the mrcu(metadata repository ) which went fine
    MRCU: [10.1.4.3.1|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11-download-092893.html]
Further I for SSO and DAS I've started to install following document:1069426.1
    SSO+DAS : 10.1.4.1
Installing this I've get next error
Output generated from configuration assistant "OC4J Instance Configuration Assistant":

  • Oracle9iAS Infrastructure Install Prob

When I am installing 9iAS infrastructure I get an error on the Database Configuration Assistant. At 44% complete the DBCA gives an ORA-01503 cannot create control set error follwed by a ORA-01990 cannot open orapw. These are follwed by a other errors. I am installing on RH 8.0. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I have the same effect ( also RH 8.0). Before Database Configuration Assistant starts, you can use the orapw utility to create a password file yourself. Then the Database Configuration Assistant will continue. This will solve the Database Configuration Assistant problem, but you will face other errors with the Oracle internet directory config assistant and all stuff that depends on OID. I was not able to solve these.

  • Error In 9iAS V2 Infrastructure Install

    Hi,
I am trying to install 9ias V2 (9.0.2.0.1) on sun solaris 8. The machine has enough memory and space. There is no other software on the box except the O/S. I have tried installing the infrstructure twice and it gives me the same error. Has anybody faced it before.
The install takes all the informatio correctly and then it links also properly (I think). Atleast it shows linking 100%. Then it starts the configuration section and hangs up just after Internet Directory Configuration Assistant.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    hmm....I'm really at a loss then..Sorry :(
I did a quick look on Metalink and found you are not the only one with this issue. However, there were no workarounds or solutions published. You may have to launch a tar with Oracle.

  • 9iasr2 infrastructure install - host name can not start with a digit?

    Hi,
During the installation of the infrastructure the installer builds the database domain by using the host name. If the host name starts with the digit as in our case the installer fails with a blessing 'Database domain name should start with a letter'. How can we workaround the problem?
    Thank you.
    Anatoliy Smirnov

    Chris,
Thank you for your reply. I looked at this thread before I posted my question, but I could not find an answer to what is wrong with this line in the hosts file:
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com 7xpsm01
    or
    10.0.0.80 7xpsm01 7xpsm01.us.oracle.com
If you know what the problem was in your case could you please let me know? Appreciate your time.
    Thank you.

I have worked out OSSO10g with PKI certificate authentication recently. I had the OAS Infra10.1.4.0.1 installed and that included the OID10.1.4. SSO10g and +. I think OID 11g still needs SSO10g work with. When I reviewed the 11g Fusion Middleware doc, found out it'd be better to do OAS10g installation. If you have the questions about the setup, let me know.
Edited by: user12220476 on Aug 8, 2010 10:49 PMOriginally I was looking at installing the necessasary support for OID on a separate server, but we do have OAS 10.1.2. running as the host platform for most of our apps, which are Oracle Forms apps. A check of the installed products shows
      Oracle Homes
        Oracle10gASR2_Forms9i
Oracle Application Server Forms and Reports Services 10g 10.1.2.0.2
            Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2

Oracle Application Server Core Products 10.1.2.0.0
                  Oracle Internet Directory Tools 10.1.2.1.0
Oracle Internet Directory Tools Patch 10.1.2.3.0So it looks like I have what I need already installed.

  • 9.0.4 OID Upgrade Assistant - Infrastructure  install ora-00911

    Hi,
upgrading from 9.0.2 to 9.0.4 on windows server.
Configuration assistant failed on Internet Directory Upgrade Assistant
    output:
    Non-SSL port:4032
    4031
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00911:invalid character
My upgrade is sitting here going nowhere and my searches have not yielded an answer - any assistance would be very much appreciated
    Thx, Pat

    Hi Mojo,
There is no direct upgrade path fro 9.0.4 to 11g as you have OID involved so that latest being 11.1.1.7.0.
In order to upgrade Oracle Application Server to 11g the first step is to upgrade the 9.0.4 to 10.1.2.3 which is a manadatory prerequisite.
So in-order to get Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 you need to create an SR with Shipment team as 10.1.2.0.2 is de-supported since Jan 1st 2012 and the download the path "5983622" to upgrade
10.1.2.0.2 to 10.1.2.3.Once the upgrade is successfull then you need to proceed to to 11g upgrade.
Also there are some limitations of using Application Server 10.1.2.3 on DB 11gR2 for which please review the note:887365.1 "Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2) Certification for Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2, 10.1.3, 10.1.4)"

    Hi,
One of the recommended solution for this issue by Oracle.
Have the DISPLAY variable set when running root.sh. This is the th recommendation by oracle to a SR opened by another vendor for this issue.
