Infrastructure Navigator considerations or negative impacts

Hello.  I have navigator installed in our test environment and it seems pretty straight forward.  You can turn it on or off through the web client.  It maps alot of the heavy hitter applications by default.  I have a couple questions before I put it into production though.
1.  Our production environment is setup differently than my lab.  There are 3 datacenters in prod and one in my lab.  Does Navigator see all VMs in all datacenters within one virtual center?
2.  Are there any negative security or performance impacts by enabling navigator?
Thanks for your input!

Hello CHJamey,
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. Indeed.  The VIN will detect all traffic in the VC it's installed within.  You'll see all 3 datacenters and the lab.
2. There aren't any negative security or performance impacts.  VIN uses a secure channel to detect the services and traffic occurring in your VC, and you'll not feel an impact in your production environment.
Hope those answers help!

  • Infrastructure Navigator 1.2 monitoring and alerting

I was under the impression that Infrastructure Navigator did monitoring and alerting of services and applications where if something stopped working or had issues it can notify you via something like email or SMS etc. From what I have seen it appears that it only shows you what services are running on a VM and the dependencies it has with other servers. Is that the case or am I missing something?

    Take a look at http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vcenter-infrastructure-navigator/overview.html:
vCenter Infrastructure Navigator automatically discover application services, visualize relationships  and map dependencies of applications on virtualized compute, storage and  network resources. A component of the        vCenter Operations Management Suite,  vCenter Infrastructure Navigator enables application-aware management  of infrastructure and operations to better understand the impact of  change, provide more complete disaster recovery protection and minimize  downtime.
Automatically discover and keep up-to-date the names and version numbers of application components and services
Visualize application relationships, communication paths and  backend connections at the infrastructure, guest OS and application  level
Map dependencies of application components on the underlying  virtual infrastructure to understand the impact of change and build  disaster recovery plans with confidence
The use case you describe is more relevant to vFabric APM - VMware's perfomance management suit which among other capabilities, will alert and notify in case of application performance issues, unavailable services etc. take a look at http://www.vmware.com/products/application-platform/vfabric-application-performance-manager/overview.html

  • Error while receiving data from infrastructure navigator server -- 5.8.3 against distributed vCenter 5.5

    Details...
    New install
vCenter 5.5 build 2026576 in a distributed install, Server A MS SQL only, Server B SSO and web client, Server C Update manager and inventory, Server D vCenter service
    VIN 5.8.3.140 build 2170967
I looked at and tried the recommendations in KB2044117 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCAQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fkb.vmware.com%2Fkb%2F2044117&ei=LZ2dVP_4BcOnNum9gNAK&usg=AFQjCNFJUvvafrHpq5CluejRiVwWD0ZgCQ&sig2=dbADxFpPJ5giAHdYEz_vkA&bvm=bv.82001339,d.eXY
    No good.
I did take a look at /var/log/vadm on the VIN and see several lines of "TCP Connection(xxxx)-Server B's IP com.vmware.vcext.vim.VcConnection -- Connecting to vCenter at Server D's IP" So it looks like it sees the request from the WWW client but then is trying to go to the vCenter service and not back to the WWW client.
I ran into the support assistant not being supported in a distributed vCenter install, and am left wondering if the same is true with VIN...
It also leaves me in a "tough spot" in that the uninstall instructions require access to a working web client interface to VIN which I do not have...
Any ideas as to what else I might try here?

    Solved but not happy!
VIN is not compatible with a web UI that uses standard ports, i.e. TCP 80 and 443. No notes (at least that I seen) in the documents stating this as a requirement.

  • RegionRenderer encodeAll The region component with id: pt1:r1 has detected a page fragment with multiple root components. Fragments with more than one root component may not display correctly in a region and may have a negative impact on performance.

    Hi,
    I am using JDEV 11.1.2.1.0
I am getting the following error :-
<RegionRenderer> <encodeAll> The region component with id: pt1:r1 has detected a page fragment with multiple root components. Fragments with more than one root component may not display correctly in a region and may have a negative impact on performance. It is recommended that you restructure the page fragment to have a single root component.

    Thanks,

    Hi,
I see at least 3 errors
    1. <RegionRenderer> <encodeAll> The region component with id: pt1:r1 has detected a page fragment with multiple root components.
the page fragment should only have a single component under the jsp:root tag. If you see more than one, wrap them in e.g. an af:panelGroupLayout or af:group component
    2. SAPFunction.jspx/.xml" has an invalid character ".".
check the document (you can open it in JDeveloper if the customization was a seeded one. Seems that editing this file smething has gone bad
    3. The expression "#{bindings..regionModel}" (that was specified for the RegionModel "value" attribute of the region component with id "pePanel") evaluated to null.
"pageeditorpanel" does seem to be missing in the PageDef file of the page holding the region

  • CIF variants exist in system for last 4 years - Any negative impact ??

    Hi Experts,
I observed that we have variants of CCR existing in the system for last 4 years!!! Will it make any negative impact on the system in terms of performance ?
If yes then do you suggest to delete unnecessary Logs?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Chandan

    Hi,
We have not observred measurement of  performance deterioration due to number of variants over a period.
Variants are stored in VARID database table.
Please check how many entries are there in this table for the CIF related programs.
You may check with Basis team , if the table size is okay and also find out the rate of increase.
This can be a good housekeeping activtiy to delete obsolete variants older than say a few years.

  • User Status (OK02) without business trans control - any negative impact?

    Hi,
I would like to know if there will be any negative impact if I do not maintain any business transaction control for my user statuses (OK02 config).
    Thanks!
    Vivian

    Hi Vivian,
As such there will be no negative impact in general but user statuses are required to control business transactions according to one's need . For example say there is a project created in CJ20N but management doesn't wants to release the project without budgeting. So this can be achieved by various user statuses.
Otherwise if you do not set the user status , it will not make any negative impact.
    Thanks,

  • Can Virtual Machin system make negative impact to the database performance?

Can Virtual Machin system make negative impact to the database performance?
I want to make a virtual machine system in my server and then install Oracle 10g database on the virtual machine system. But I am not sure if Virtual Machin system can make any negative impact to the database performance.
    Thank you

The virtual machine software vendor must have certified and provided some performance figures like running Oracle on our VM would have a performance hit of n%. VMWare has such a figure published (8% if I recall correctly).
Besides, the load on physical server, apart from the virtual machine running, would also have the impact on performance.
    Other factors would be
    1. how quickly the host OS can cater to the guest OS with the RAM requirements (it would be good if you could pre-allocate RAM to VM)
    2. with the assumption that you will be running an OS within OS, files on host OS forming the VM, should be pre-allocated in terms of space, avoiding runtime extentions.

  • Any negative impact on Customer system after switching on Delta...

    Hi
Could u pls let me know that:
    1) In general client switch on their Delta System for Data Extraction or not?
    2) If they switch on Delta, Is their any negative impact on customer system?
    Thanks...

    Hi Harpal,
First of all if you switch on delta there is no negative impact. The only thing is you need to follow some precautions before you switch on delta.
    1) It is always a good idea to have DSO before you load data to cube in case of delta.
    2) When you are loading delta for first time you need to be careful with delta initialization. Because whatever initialization you do that will remain constant for your future delta.
And the reason behind the delta mechanism is as your system becomes old then it becomes very difficult to extract Full or All data on daily basis. The extraction time will also increase and there are more chances of load failures.

    Hi GAIKWAD,
Asper your requirement i dont think so there will be a problem, (Except for regular sales)
but carefurll when you are creating the excise invoice (J1IIN) for the exports and deemed exports, since those two sales processes system will expect the utilization option then only can able to go for the next process like ARE1, ARE3.
check it out, whether you have both exports and deemed exp scenarios
or else plz let me know(if i am wrong) if you hav any other way for both exports & deemed exp. (Automatic process)

  • Negative impact of the program- RSDMD_CHECKPRG_ALL

    hi all,
we are facing an issue with master data inconsistency . can anybody let me know if there is any negative impact of the program
RSDMD_CHECKPRG_ALL if we run it in repair mode for a single characteristic . We donot have aggregates.
    Regards,

    Hi Dola,
There will be no negative impact of the program  RSDMD_CHECKPRG_ALL if you run it in repair mode for a single characteristic Even if you do not have aggregates it will not impact...Most of options provided in RSDMD_CHECKPRG_ALL are the ones in RSRV checks. At a time you can check only for one characteristic.
    Hope it clarifies your doubt..

Can u please tel me about the negative impact of rate parameter in RMAN backups.

    Vinay Raj Malla

    Hi Jorgen,
there's no rule of thumb, because every application is different, also the users behaviour...
    - every user needs an initial amount of memory while logged in (user context
    - then there comes the amount of memory while working with the application
    - then it depends if when for example a query is finished the memory gets freed up or if it will be held in memory
    - the behaviour of the user if he logs out correctly (memory is freed up) or just closes the browser (memory still in use until timeout occurs)
So the best would be to simply monitor your system with SM04, there you can also click on GOTO -> MEMORY and you'll see the amount of memory for each user. Look what happens when a user works with the application and also what happens when a user closes the browser.

  • Use Infrastructure Navigator to map out applications on different VLANs

Hello.  I will be trying out Infrastructure Navigator in our environment and I'm wondering how I would go about mapping out applications across our different VLANs.  We have certain networks presented to certain clusters.  Will I need to have a Navigator appliance in each network segment or will I be able to tell Navigator to look at all of the networks across the clusters?
Thanks for any information you can provide.

    Hello CHJamey,
I just saw your post and I'd like to try to help.
As long as all the VLAN's are known objects in the vSphere, the VIN shouldn't have any issues with mapping out which VMs are communicating with other VMs.
You mentioned applications, could you perhaps be a little more specific?  Did you mean Automatic Applications, Manual Applications, or the applications running inside the VMs?

  • Upgrade of Windows SP's have negative impact on BOBJ Landscape?

    Dear Colleagues,
I hope you can help in this case.
Currently on BOBJ XI R2 FP 3.6 which is on Win Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 - if windows SP's are updated to the latest will this have an impact on the Business objects environment in particular Excel?
Is there any white papers or restrictions or issues or adverse effects encountered by just upgrading Windows SP or applying Windows patches?
    Many thanks for your assistance.
    Kind Regards,
    Ailish
Edited by: Ailish Kennedy on Mar 16, 2010 6:22 PM

Upgrading the Windows OS on your BusinessObjects servers is not going to impact your ability to export to Excel. The Excel interface is more on your client side, especially on your web browser's setting.
With that being said, you should always set up a test environment where you can apply the patch and see if it breaks anything. You should always test things out thoroughly before rolling out to production.
    Hope this helps.

  • SAP F&R: Negative impact on forecast

    Hi,
One of our clients wants to reduce the demand forecast generated by SAP F&R so as to generate a lower quantities of products in the order proposals which are being generated.
I was thinking more about using the Demand Influencing factor (DIF) in this case, but as a negative value to generate the lower demand forecasts. But, I cannot get to include a -ve DIF value in any of the standard DIF types present in the system. Also, the scaling factor parameter is not editable. Can anybody guide me on this particular issue.
    Best Regards
    Prashant Kedare

    Hello Prashant,
it would be interesting to hear for me, why the customer would like to reduce the forecast? Typically the forecast should provide numbers which shall allow to meet the demand and at the same time not result into stock overages, and so far we had excellent results in that area.
In case the forecast is actually to high, there might be multiple reasons for that and I would recommend to find the root cause first, and then tweak parms (e.g. service levels) accordingly. This might yield better and more exact results than just applying a global corrective DIF.
I can also imagine scenarios in which the forecast is quite accurate but replenishment quantities are absolutely too high due to pack size rules. That would be more of a business process which might be adapted .... So multiple reasons may apply, and I am really interested to know what kind of issue they do have?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Laura

  • Is there any negative impact disabling view merging?

    Hi
To fix an ORA error, it was suggested to set :
    simpleview_merging=FALSE
    complexview_merging=FALSE
bug is still on Development and customer wants to know the impact, implications of
disabling view merging and if there is any way to identify queries that currently does
    simple and/or complex view merging.
For the second one, I guess the answer is no, I just want double check.
    Oracle version: 11.2.0.1
    Thanks,
    Deyanira

Doing system-wide change is always a big challenge.
Since you know what queries are affected by the bug, why don’t you set those parameters for those queries only.
    alter session set "_simple_view_merging"=FALSE ;
    Buggy query…
alter session set "_simple_view_merging"=TRUE ;You can play with OPT_PARAM hint, but I do not think it is documented hint.
