Infrastructure Nexus 7000 Series or 7700 Series.

Dear,
I have a big question, now the data center infrastructure and equipment changes continuously creating new top models for processing named  Nexus.
I can consider an architecture with Nexus 7K, 5K and 2K for a datacenter or should jump and use Nexus 7700 Series and 9K leveraging its capabilities and new generation?
I've clear demand and size of the data center but what is the best option.
Someone could give me your recommendations.
Best Regards.

The answer is driven by your business needs.
Install 9Ks if you need to leverage their SDN and ACI capabilities. You also need to remember that the N9Ks are relatively new to the market in comparison to the N7Ks and so their features are still maturing.
However if you don't need this functionality then personally I would install the N77Ks given that they are the newest generation of the N7K switch family.
Whether you also deploy 5Ks and 2Ks depends largely on your overall Top of Rack switch design.
If you choose a middle of row or end of row switch design then the need for these types of switches diminishes. This is based on the assumption that you don't need to leverage the N5Ks fibre channel capabilities.

Just to further clarify, we have 4 5548UP switches in the same management vlan. 2 switches are in one location lets say location A and they are CFS peers and are working fine.
These two switches which are having problem are in location B. All the switches are in the same vlan. Essentially the all CFS multicast messages will be seen by all 5548 switches as they are in the same vlan. I am assuming that this might not create any problems as we specify the peers in the respective configurations. Or do we have to change the CFSoIPv4 multicast addresses in location B or may be configure a different region.
    Regards.

  • Is a Radeon 7700 series GPU OK in a 5,1?

I have recently pulled my GTX670 from my Mac Pro so I can put it a PC that I am building.
Can I use a Radeon 7700 series GPU in my Mac?
Could I put in two Radeon 7700s and use them in CrossFire mode?
I don't want to buy another powerful GPU at the moment and am hoping a Radeon 7700 GPU will be OK, but I do want to be able to run X-Plane.  At the moment I have got a Radeon 5450 installed in the Mac.  Unsprisingly X-Plane 10 runs really badly on this GPU
    TIA for a reply.

They will only work in Windows. OSX does not support Crossfire or any of the GPUs you listed, thats why your game runs so poorly (you're not getting any GPU acceleration).

  • Cannot install Oracle Linux on HP DC 7700 series PCs

    Hi,
Im trying to install Oracle Linux on DC 7700 series and installation got hang up at the point where the "PCI Probing starts"
Please do provide a remady for this !
    Nuwan

1). Oracle 9i will be easily installed on these linux ?It will install easier on Oracle Linux than any other.
2). These linux distro is more or less same like other linux distros (eg: ubuntu, fedora) i means i do and install other utilities and software for other type of usages ??Since OEL is intended as an O/S for mostly servers, it may not include support for the very latest desktop / laptop hardware. It may not include consumer-type applications like MP3 players either.
3). I will not have to pay for any type of repo access or packages installation ???No, you are welcome to download, install and use OEL without any charge. You can get it from the edelivery.oracle.com site, or access it piecemeal at the http://public-yum.oracle.com web site.
If you want support or updated RPM packages since that distribution release, only then will you need to purchase a subscription.
So, use the original distribution RPM packages for free (edelivery or public-yum.oracle.com), only need paid subscription for updated RPM's or support.
4). I will be install other locally downloaded softwares ( .rpm, .sh. .bin) files like netbeans, amrok wiht avi and mp3 capabilities for playing video tutorials, open office, acrobat reader, flash, burning software, gimp, matlab and saas ??????In general, yes, you can install software intended for Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Oracle Enterprise Linux.
Check out the EPEL project (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL for an additional repository which may already have the extra software you are looking for.

  • Virtualized Lab Infrastructure - 3560G connecting to a Nexus 7000 - Help!

    Hi all,
I've been struggling with the configuration for my small environment for a week or so now, and being a Cisco beginner, I'm worried about going down the wrong path, so I'm hoping someone on here would be able to help with my lab configuration.
As you can see from the graphic, I have been allocated VLANs 16-22 for my use, on the Nexus 7000. There are lots of other VLANs in use on the Nexus, by other groups, most of which are routable between one another. VLAN 99 is used for switch management, and VLAN 11, is where the Domain Controller, DHCP and Windows Deployment Server reside for the lab domain. Servers across different VLANs use this DC/DHCP/WDS set of servers. These VLANS route out to the internet successfully.
I have been allocated eth 3/26 on the Nexus, as my uplink connection to my own ToR 3560G. All of my servers, of which there are around 8 in total, are connected to the 3560. I have enabled IP routing on the 3560, and created VLANs 18-22, providing an IP on each. This config has been assigned to all 48 gigabit ports on the 3560 (using the commands in the graphic), and each Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host connects to the 3560 via 4 x 1GbE connections. On each Hyper-V host, the 4 x 1GbE ports are teamed, and a Hyper-V vSwitch is bound to that team. I then assign the VLAN ID at the vNIC level.
Routing between the VLANs is currently working fine - As a test, i can put 2 of the servers on different VLANs, each with their respective VLAN default gateway, and they can ping between one another.
My challenge is, I'm not quite sure what i need to do for the following:
    1) How should I configure the uplink gi 0/52 on the 3560 to enable my VLANs to reach the internet?
    2) How should I configure eth 3/26 on the Nexus?
    3) I need to ensure that the 3560 is also on the management VLAN 99 so it can be managed successfully.
    4) I do not want to route to VLAN 11, as i intend to have my own domain (DC/DNS/DHCP/WDS)
Any help or guidance you can provide would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hi again Jon,
OK, been battling with it a little more.
Here's the config for the 3560:
    Current configuration : 11643 bytes
    version 12.2
    no service pad
    service timestamps debug uptime
    service timestamps log uptime

    switchport mode trunk

    <same through interface GigabitEthernet0/48>
    interface GigabitEthernet0/52
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 16,99
    switchport mode trunk
    interface Vlan1
    no ip address
    interface Vlan16
    ip address 10.0.6.2 255.255.255.252
    interface Vlan18
    ip address 10.0.8.1 255.255.255.0
    interface Vlan19
    ip address 10.0.9.1 255.255.255.0
    interface Vlan20
    ip address 10.0.12.1 255.255.255.0
    interface Vlan21
    no ip address
    interface Vlan22
    ip address 10.0.14.1 255.255.255.0
    interface Vlan99
    ip address 10.0.99.87 255.255.255.0
    ip classless
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.6.1
    ip http server
    control-plane
    l
    end
At the Nexus end, the port connecting to the 3560 is configured as:
    interface Ethernet3/26
      description DX_3560_uplink
      switchport
      switchport mode trunk
      switchport trunk allowed vlan 16,99
      no shutdown
Now, the problem I'm currently having, is that on the 3560, things route fine, between VLANs. However, from on a server within one of the VLANs, say, 18, trying to ping the default gateway of the 3560 fails. I can ping 10.0.6.2 which is the 3560-end of VLAN 16, but i can't get over to 10.0.6.1 and beyond. I suspect, it's relating to what you said about "the only thing missing is you also need routes on the Nexus switch for the IP subnets on your 3560 and the next hop IP would be 10.0.6.2 ie the vlan 16 SVI IP on the 3560"
I suspect that, in layman's (my terms!) terms, the Nexus simply doesn't know about the networks 10.0.8.1 (VLAN 18), 10.0.9.1 (VLAN 19) and so on.
So, i need routes on my Nexus to fix this. The problem is, I'm not quite sure what that looks like.
    Would it be:
    ip route 10.0.8.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.6.2
ip route 10.0.9.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.6.2 and so on?
To give a bit of history, prior to me creating VLANs 18-22 on the 3560, all VLANs originally existing on the Nexus. Everything routed fine out to the internet, for all of the VLANs (with the same subnet settings that i have configured, i.e. 10.0.8.x for VLAN 18 etc), so i'm presuming once I get the Nexus to understand that the IP subnets live on the 3560, traffic should flow successfully to the internet.
    Should.... :-)

  • Nexus 7000 route leak from GRT (default VRF) to other VRF's

    Hello
We have a Nexus 7000 infrastructure whereby we have had multiple VDC's and VRF's deployed. A requirement has now come about whereby one of these VRF's needs to be able to see our GRT (default VRF) so we need to leak the GRT routes into the VRF and vice versa.
I have been doing a lot of reading and I am happy with the how this works with inter-VRF route leaking but I seem to missing a few things in respect of how this works with the GRT.
I have also read on another forum that this is not supported. See link below.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/133711/vrf-configuration-and-verification-nexus-7000
Does anyone have experience of this? I can also see how this works in IOS and I have GNS3 and got this working.
We use BGP currently so we are able to use MP-BGP if required.
Any help would be very useful.

    Hi,
In Table 14 of the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series NX-OS Verified Scalability Guide the verified limit is specified as 1000 per system i.e., across all VDCs for NX-OS release 5.2, 6.0 and 6.1.
There is a footnote associated with this number which states:
With each new VDC configured, the number of configurable VRFs per system is reduced by two as each VDC has a default VRF and management VRFs that are not removable. For example, with 8 configured VDCs on Cisco NX-OS Release 5.2, you can configure up to 984 VRFs per system (either all in one VDC or across VDCs).

  • Ask the Expert: Basic Introduction and Troubleshooting on Cisco Nexus 7000 NX-OS Virtual Device Context

    With Vignesh R. P.
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions of Cisco expert Vignesh R. P. about the Cisco® Nexus 7000 Series Switches and support for the Cisco NX-OS Software platform .
The Cisco® Nexus 7000 Series Switches introduce support for the Cisco NX-OS Software platform, a new class of operating system designed for data centers. Based on the Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS platform, Cisco NX-OS introduces support for virtual device contexts (VDCs), which allows the switches to be virtualized at the device level. Each configured VDC presents itself as a unique device to connected users within the framework of that physical switch. The VDC runs as a separate logical entity within the switch, maintaining its own unique set of running software processes, having its own configuration, and being managed by a separate administrator.

    Hi Vignesh
Is there is any limitation to connect a N2K directly to the N7K?
    if i have a an F2 card 10G and another F2 card 1G and i want to creat 3 VDC'S
    VDC1=DC-Core
    VDC2=Aggregation
    VDC3=Campus core
do we need to add a link between the different VDC's

  • Connecting IBM B22 FEXes to Nexus 7000

    Hello everybody,
Could someone give an definite answer, better to based on personal experience - is it possible to attach B22 FEX going to the IBM chassis to Nexus 7000 via F2 series 48-port 10G card?
NXOS is currently running 6.1.5a but we plan to upgrade to 6.2.8 or 6.2.12 once we get new 4GB DIMMs for SUP1 modules.
    Thanks.

In my case, I was getting this error on a interface of a Nexus C6001 with the FET-10G transceiver.  I was able to clear it up by temorarily replacing and configuring a slower GLC-T which worked as expected.  I then removed all the settings an got the FET-10G to link.

    Hello,
I have a couple of design questions that I am hoping some of you can help me with.
I am working on a Dual DC Upgrade. It is pretty standard design, customer requires a L2 extension between the DC for Vmotion etc. Customer would like to leverage certain features of the Nexus product suite, including:

    High Bandwidth Scalability
    Unified I/O
As always cost is a major issue and consolidation is encouraged where possible. I have worked on a couple of Nexus designs in the past and have levergaed the 7000, 5000, 2000 and 1000 in the DC.
The feedback that I am getting back from Customer seems to be mirrored in Cisco's technology roadmap. This relates specifically to the features supported in the Nexus 7000 and Nexus 5000.
Many large enterprise Customers ask the question of why they need to have the 7000 and 5000 in their topologies as many of the features they need are supported in both platforms and their environments will never scale to meet such a modular, tiered design.
I have a few specific questions that I am hoping can be answered:
The Nexus 7000 only supports the 2000 on the M series I/O Modules; can FCOE be implemented on a 2000 connected to a 7000 using the M series I/O Module?
Is the F Series I/O Module the only I/O Module that supports FCOE?
Are there any plans to introduce the native FC support on the Nexus 7000?
Are there any plans to introduce full fabric support (230 Gbps) to the M series I/O module?
Are there any plans to introduce Fabric path to the M series I/O module?
Are there any plans to introduce L3 support to the F series I/O Module?
Is the entire 2000 series allocated to a single VDC or can individual 2000 series ports be allocated to a VDC?
Is Trust Sec only support on multi hop DCI links when using the ASR on EoMPLS pwire?
Are there any plans to inroduce Trust Sec and VDC to the Nexus 5500?
    Thanks,
    Colm

    Hello Allan
The only IO card which cannot co-exist with other cards in the same VDC is F2 due to specific hardware realisation.
All other cards can be mixed.
Regarding the Fabric versions - Fabric-2 gives much bigger throughoutput in comparing with Fabric-1
So in order to get full speed from F2/M2 modules you will need Fab-2 modules.
Fab2 modules won't give any advantages to M1/F1 modules.

Does anyone know why it doesn't show any values?
    We are runing version 6.2(8)
    And here's the port configuration:
    interface Ethernet9/27
     switchport
     switchport mode trunk
     spanning-tree port type edge trunk

You are correct.  There isn't any option for seeing the hit count on the prefix-list on the Nexus series.

  • Broadcom LiveLink : Receiving MAC flaps with Cisco Nexus 7000

We are migrating from using two Nortel 8600's running VRRP at the distribution to Cisco Nexus 7K's using HSRP.  So we have a server connected to two 3750G switches which then connect to the Nexi (previously the 8600's).  As soon as we connected the 3750's to the Nexus and moved the gateway to Nexus, LiveLink forces all the servers to alternate traffic between NIC1 and NIC2.
Since LiveLink is a teaming application, it uses virtual mac for nic1 and nic2, but the virtual mac associated with the IP address moves to the active link.
LiveLink is used to check the availability of the gateway by polling the gateway out of each interface using an ARP request.
The problem does not exhibit itself in our Cisco VSS environment, and with Nortel's VRRP.  I tried running VRRP on the Nexus but no joy.
Anyone know of a bug that could cause this issue?

Unfortunately we have LiveLink enabled on most of our Windows servers in our data centers.  One of my colleagues sent me this bug issue.  I'm not sure if this is the cause, but it's worth trying.   We will update the NxOs (currently on 5.1.1) next week and see if that fixes the problem.

Symptom: Incomplete Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) entries are observed on a Cisco Nexus 7000 Series switch, along with partial packet loss and a memory leak.
Conditions: This symptom might be seen when ARP packets have a nonstandard size (that is, greater than 64 bytes).
Workaround: This issue is resolved in 5.1.3.

  • Which type of ADC is used in M Series, S Series and C Series DAQ Cards?

    Hi
I want to know which type of Analog to digital converters(ADC) are used in M Series and S Series DAQ Cards. I know that DSA Cards and some C series are using Delta Sigma ADC. What about the ADC used in non delta sigma C Series modules. Why Delta sigma ADC is not used in M series and S series DAQ cards.
    Regards
    Samuel J

    Hi Samuel.
The ADC type used is Succesive Approximation ADC. You can refer to the following links for your reference.

  • Nexus 7000 Platform Logging

    Hello,
We recently had a power supply failure in one of our Nexus 7000s, and I noticed that the syslog for the Platform is only present in the default VDC, and not in any of the other VDCs syslogs. Is this by design, or is there a logging level I can turn up in another VDC to capture this log? Thanks for any input

    Hello Carl,
What version of code are you running on your Nexus 7k?
    The expected behavior is:
"When a hardware issue occurs, syslog messages are sent to all VDCs."

  • Dell Servers with Nexus 7000 + Nexus 2000 extenders

<< Original post by smunzani. Answered by Robert. Moving from Document section to Discussions>>
    Team,
I would like to use some of the existing Dell Servers for new network design of Nexus 7000 + Nexus 2000 extenders. What are my options for FEC to the hosts? All references of M81KR I found on CCO are related to UCS product only.
What's best option for following setup?
    N7K(Aggregation Layer) -- N2K(Extenders) -- Dell servers
Need 10G to the servers due to dense population of the VMs. The customer is not up for dumping recently purchased dell boxes in favor of UCS. Customer VMware license is Enterprise Edition.
    Thanks in advance.

To answer your question, the M81KR-VIC is a Mezz card for UCS blades only.  For Cisco rack there is a PCIe version which is called the P81.  These are both made for Cisco servers only due to the integration with server management and virtual interface functionality.
