Infrastructure Questions

We are installing HFM. We will be using reports(latest version) and Analyzer 6.5. Can Reports and Analyzer sit on the same server? Hyperion tells us Reports and Analyzer must have their own servers. We will have roughly 100 concurrent users. Thanks!

Hi Calvin,I have had both Analyzer and Reports working on the same server in fact using the same instance of Tomcat (on Windows 2000). If you want to have two separate installations of tomcat on the same server just install on different ports e.g. 80 and 8080. I guess Hyperion are just being cautious in there recommendation but technically there is no reason why they can?t co-exist.Hope this helps.Paul Armitagewww.analitica.co.uk

  • WebCenter Sites (WCS) Community Application infrastructure questions

Essentially, we are looking to perform the most basic, bare-bones installation of WCS Community. After reading through the Community installation guide, I have gathered that the following infrastructure will be necessary, and I am hoping you can either confirm or correct me if I am wrong. We will be deploying on WebLogic. Figure 3 on page 11 of the Community install guide diagrams the most basic infrastructure as I understand it to be, which is:
    1. Two separate physical servers, one for the Production Stack, and one for the Management Stack.
    2. Deployment of a Production Delivery instance of WCS on the Production Stack (the Co-Resident Satellite Server that comes out-of-the-box with WCS install is not enough).
    3. Deployment of a Management instance of Community on the Management Stack (but on a separate WebLogic managed server instance than the WCS Management deployment).
    4. Deployment of a Production instance of Community on the Production Stack (but on a separate WebLogic managed server instance than the WCS Delivery deployment).
I understand that all 4 deployments need to happen on separate WebLogic application (managed) server instances. But to dig a little deeper, I guess my main question is, do the Production and Management Stacks need to be on separate virtual machines (we are using VMs to house WebLogic), or can we have 4 WebLogic managed servers on the same VM and house all 4 deployments on the same WebLogic domain?
Thanks, and your advice will be greatly appreciated,
    Somen

    Hi Somen -
Sorry for the delay in responding.
There's no need to install WebLogic on separate domains, just be careful that they don't collide. If you get creative, you'll also see that you can actually configure CoS on far fewer WL instances than those called out in the spec. Support issues may ensue, however. But for dev purposes, no need to torture yourself with 4 app servers unless you want to.

  • Oracle Based Infrastructure question

Do you have any info on core technology licensing in the cloud??  This is becoming a bigger and bigger issue as customers are trying to move to a cloud based infrastructure to avoid Oracle licensing requirements.  I would like to become way more educated on licensing in the cloud so please forward any partner approved material on that subject please.

Unfortunately, there's no way to avoid licensing our software, whether for a public or private cloud.
If it's a private cloud (on-premise), the standard licensing rules apply based on either user, processor core factor, approved hard partition (eg., OVM), etc.
For a 3rd party public cloud, the licensing rules can be found here:  http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/cloud-licensing-070579.pdf. The important point is that it needs to be an approved cloud platform, such as Amazon or Microsoft.
For our own cloud, pricing (in most cases) is clearly listed at https://cloud.oracle.com/home. For example, our Database Cloud pricing is here:  https://cloud.oracle.com/database?tabID=1406491812773.

  • Installing OracleAS Infrastructure Question

I'm familiar with the database products and want to kick the tires of ContentDB on my home server to evaluate it for work, but I'm confused on exactly what is OracleAS Infrastructure and which product to download from Technet. I started with downloading Application Server 10g Release 3 (10.1.3) but this doesn't seem to be the correct product. Before I download another gigabyte of software, do I want Oracle Identity Management 10g (10.1.4.0.1) instead? I don't see a product explicitly called OracleAS Infrastructure, or am I just missing something?

    Hi
OracleAS Infrastucture - is the infrastructure/identity management option of Oracle Application Server Enterprise Edition. It contains things like OID.
To run Content DB, the minimalist installation would require just the Identity Management 10.1.4 install (which is based on Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 Infrastructure with various patches including 10.1.0.5 DB patch), and the Content DB cd.
You could then install Content DB repository into the 10.1.0.5 identity management database (containing OID repository etc).

  • Infrastructure Question: setup a 100TB database/data center

    Hi guys,
Looking for your guideline and assistance, in setting up, this big environment, these numbers are not accurate, but just to give some idea, I'll mention, which are the correct numbers (correct).
The environment is an Oracle/Linux, but no VMWare.
    250,000 transactions/day (*correct*) - at least for 1 year => 260 (working days in 2010) * 250000 = 65,000,000.00
Each transaction size will be, max = 2mb
2mb * 250,000 = 500,000 mb or .5 tb (approx) per day data will be coming to our data center
    98% it'll be Inserts only
the rest can be divided into SELECT or UPDATE, almost no DELETE at all.
What I'm looking for, some guideline, assistance & help, in taking up this task and proceeding and forwarding in the right direction.
Will highly appreciate your help & guidance.
    Best regards

The setup of such a massive system could almost take as much as a year by itself unless you can somehow rent a pre-configured system.
Oracle is recently throwing everything onto cloud computing. They have a lot of experience in this,
You can also start thinking about companies online with a 'rent a cloud' policy like vmware.com, but since it is an Oracle database I would definitly ask Oracle first.

  • Prime Infrastructure blocks SNMP during sync causing PRTG alarms

We're running Prime Infrastructure 1.2, and until yesterday we were mainly using it for wireless monitoring. We use PRTG for monitoring the state of the rest of the network. I added our core router (6509-E w/VSS), and during syncs, we will get PRTG alarms (SNMP traffic sensors) saying "No response". The downtime is ~5 minutes (which is the PRTG scanning interval). So, it seems like Prime is preventing other SNMP traffic during the syncs. Is this normal? I don't really like the thought of receiving a boatload of false alarms several times a day.

    Hi Brian:
Prime Infrastructure 1.2.0.103 was deferred and removed from Cisco.com in favor of 1.2.1.12, for a number of issues.  The current release is 1.3.0.20 Update 1.  Between the two, there have been a number of fixes with regards to Java threads being locked, amount of system resources being used by the Oracle engine, size of the backups, and a lot more.  You may want to look into getting current to see if the behavior changes.
Clarifying the upgrade path to Prime Infrastructure 1.3.0.20 Update 1
Given the volume of data polled during sync cycles, I could see where Prime Infrastructures questions might dominate or even overwhelm the router's SNMP agent, but there's no process that puts an access-list to prevent the agent processing any other station's traffic while sync is going on.  You may want to check the CPU utilization of the SNMP agent (show process cpu | i SNMP ENGINE) before, during and after the sync to see what impact the sync has.

  • IIS - Webserver - Best Practice ?

    Hey Community
I have some questions , and i´d love to hear some responses.
    I have a virtualized environment at home ... DC-1 , DC-2 , GW-1 , WEB-01 and some client and application VM´s running.
GW-01 and WEB-01 are not part of the domain mcsa.local
I have setup WS2012-r2 on all machines.
And on WEB-01 is IIS role installed , and i only use the IP address , i dont have a www domain.
    My questions are these :
question 1. What is the best practice for this setup ?
question 2. And how do I forward http requests from gw-01 to Web-01 ? (do i do that in DNS or do I do that in Routing and remote access MMC console ?)
question 3(not necessary to answer this one). How do I add a second site easily , and how do I visit the second site from the outside ( do i surf to x.x.x.x/secondsite? )
Any step-by-step guide would be really helpful, on how i would do this so that external computers can visit my website that is hosted on WEB-01.

    Hi,
question 1. What is the best practice for this setup ?

  • Experience about life without Novell Client?

    Hi,
got anyone a wider experience about OES Infrastructure without Novell
    Client and W7 Workstations?
We didn't need absolut highest performance but an absolut stable and
    reliable Environment (24h Healthcare).
    - Is Performance with CIFS Access to OES NSS Cluster Ressources comparable?
    - Is availability comparable (in special Cluster migrations, Filelocking
    on Files)
Today we run ~250 XP Workstations on OES2
    Cluster/Filesharing/iprint/Zen7 and Groupwise.
Now we are going to ZCM11 and W7/64bit and think about avoid to use the
Novell Client for Windows to reduce complexity and switch on Client Side
to AD-Domain and use OES Infrastructur only for the "Backend".
Most Novell Services (Groupwise/iPrint) are going to auth to AD too, so
why should we use Novell Client and the NCP Protocol anymore?
Is the NCP Protocoll so much better against CIFS in current OES
Implementations (i'm no Expert in this Things).

What would you like to know?
Most infos are on my first post.
We get more and more Windows Applikations who need a Windows Server as
Plattform for Services, Shares and Authentication.
In the past we create lokal "system" Accounts on these Applikation
Servers and map there Shares with help of the Loginskripts.
    like map use R: \\app-server\files password /user:<systemaccount>
But now we are low on Drive Letters...
So now we think about to bring the Applikation Server and Windows
Workstation into AD-Domain for using same User Accounts/Passworddatabase
and use the UNC Syntax for this kind of Applikations.
Or we use some Applikations/Infrastruktur who use "transparent" Login
with AD Authentication (sp. Citrix) or use this as Authentication Point.
And that's our thoughts about CIFS and Novell Infrastractur in General.

  • Mobility tunnel flapping

I am trying to understand what this error could mean to determine if I really have an issue or not.
I have one mobility anchor connected to two foreign controllers. I have a mobility tunnel on one WLAN only. I get emails from our Prime management server saying the following...
    Virtual Domain: ROOT-DOMAIN
NCS has detected one or more alarms of category Controller and severity Critical in Virtual Domain ROOT-DOMAIN for the following items:
    1. Message: Controller '10.140.x.x'. All anchors of WLAN 'HopeNet' are down.
E-mail will be suppressed up to 30 minutes for these alarms.
I have not noticied any network disruption during this time, but have not been connected to the SSID when I get the emails. And usually, as soon as I get the 'DOWN' email, i get an 'UP' email. Also, they seem to occur at random times.
Any ideas to the meaning of this? Thanks.

    Hi Josh:
This would really be more of a wireless LAN controller/mobility anchor question than a Prime Infrastructure question.  Prime Infrastructure is just the management station, and is only emailing notifications because the wireless LAN controller is sending it [Prime Infrastructure] SNMP traps about the tunnel being up and down.
The wireless LAN controllers use eping and mping to determine reachability between the anchor and foreign controllers.  If one of those tests fail, the wireless LAN controller will send the tunnel down trap.  Once they start passing again, the wireless LAN controller will send the tunnel up trap.
What this means is that something in the network is causing the eping and mping to fail.  You may want to open a TAC service request against the anchor controller to have someone look at the mobility anchor status flipping.

  • Why Does FDM need to use a Local Disk?

Quick infrastructure question: In the Oracle install docs, under sample deployment documentation they specify that FDM needs to be run on a Local Disk. Why is that so ?

It requires local windows files on the drive, it should never be installed on a network drive. You can place the FDM application folder directory on a network share, however the software itself must be installed on a local disk.

  • New to OBIEE- Questions on OBIEE infrastructure..

    Hi Gurus/Experts,
I am very very new OBIEE technology. Our company decided to change the technology to OBIEE. So, We are in process of understanding the architecture and infrastructure for the same.
    I have couple of questions:
-the BI web server is the piece that has to run on Windows or It can run any machine?
-can the BI server and the BI scheduler server run in the same physical server (AIX) ?
Please let me if you are not clear on my questions.
It would be really great help..
    Warm regards,
    Ganesh Krishna.

-the BI web server is the piece that has to run on Windows or It can run any machine?Yes, OBIEE installers are available in different flavors like windows, LINUX, Solaris etc. You can have your BI web server (SAW) on any of the supported envn. Its not mandate to have it just on windows..
-can the BI server and the BI scheduler server run in the same physical server (AIX) ? Yes, both can run on same server. This is general practice..
    Refer OBIEE documentation here..

    Hope this clears your doubt.

  • Question regarding ContentDB InfraStructure AS without MetaData Repository.

    Hi Experts,
For ContentDB Infracture AS can we use a Database that doesnt contain a Metadata Respository.
If the MetaData Repository is compulsory for Infrastructure AS... then could you please tell us why it is used for.
    Thanks.

  • 11gR2 Infrastructure Upgrade Question(s) from 10gR2

    Hello.
We are currently using both Linux (RHEL5) and Solaris (5.10) for all of our Oracle 10.2.0.5.0 RAC DBs. Weare NOT using ASM currently. So, we are going to upgrade our DBs to the latest version of 11gR2 - and this obviously will include our CRS. I know the ASM and CRS under 10g are now combined under the 11gR2 Grid Infracstructure. I have been revieiwing the Oracle Grid Infrastructre Installation Guides for both OSs. While these guides are centered on new installations, I do notice that each has a small appendix tied to upgrading activities (Appendix E in Solaris and Appendix F in Linux).
I also have a few papers I pulled from blogs related to these activities (e. g., a blog from David Marco and another from Martin Bach) where they are updating their clusterware from 10gR2 to 11gR2. So here are a a few questions I'd like to answer - one may be obvious from what I have already read.
1.) This may be the obvious or redundant question - almost the entire writeups in the earlier referenced appendices seem to center around an 11.x CRS to 11gR2. So are these appendices still the correct reference when going from 10gR2 to 11gR2? Just double checking myself/
2.) Sadly, we are not going to be utilizing ASM anytime soon (tied to $$ issues realted to fiber connections). We might later, however, go to ASM. Is there anything I should do in relation to this upgrade tied to ASM that might make it easier to say move over to ASM in the next year - or should I just ignore any references to ASM during this initial upgrade?
3.) Does anyone have any other additional document references/URLs that you might feel would be helpful in the overall 11gR2 upgrade process (both Infrastructure and/or DB)?
Thank you in advance for any help.

  • Migrating data from Cisco NCS 1.1.1.24 to Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Question

I am spinning up a new VM server for Prime to migrate from NCS. I have not been able to find the patch Cisco recommends to run before upgrading. My question is do I need to run this patch (ncs_patch-1.1.1.24-upgrade-12.tar.gz) if I am just gong to bring up a whole new machine and not upgrade the existing NCS? My plan is to do a back-up on the NCS and a restore from the new Prime.

To migrate to a new Prime Infrastructure 1.3 system, follow the process as described in the following two links below:
