Ingesting media from Sony XDCAM HD

What software/drivers do I need to ingest media from a Sony XDCAM HD deck? A link would be great if anyone has it. I really appreciate it.
Best.
Tom

It might be nice if you tell us how you solved the problem so that others seeking a solution can find your post and use the same method.
Not for me though, I already know the answer.

  • Can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6

I can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6.01 HD. Am using Macbook Pro, 2 gig of RAM. This is my first time NOT using tape. I can copy the files off the memory card onto an external drive (to free up the card for pro crew's next day's shoot), but can't import either to FCP. Do I need to convert the files in some way before FCP can read them? Need to fix this problem fast as the crew are off to Nepal for 2 week shoot.

    Laura,
First, I'm assuming that you're referring to the XDCAM EX. You'll need to install the FCP 6.0.2 upgrade, which contains the XDCAM EX codecs.
Second, You'll need to install the PDZK-P1 Transfer Application, and use that to import your EX clips into FCP. I just noticed that there is a new version available, 2.5.1 which is labeled specifically for Tiger/Leopard. I haven't tested this version yet, and will report back on any stability issues. We're currently running version 2.1.1, without many issues.

  • From Sony XDCAM to DVD

Ok, give me a simple flow chart on how to get HD video from and Sony XDCAM (PDW-700) to a DVD. Here's what we are doing now...
We import the vids off the recording deck using Sony's XDCAM transfer utility. Once in FCS, we edit and then shoot it over to Compressor. From there, it goes to DVD Studio Pro. Is that the correct process or is there something else?
Our finished product is fuzzy and wavy...not smooth and crisp like our source video. I want to nail down the process first before I start playing with the settings in each software package.
All I am trying to get from this questions is a step by step, from this program to that so I'll understand the workflow.
    Thank you.
    Cliff

Hi can you post a few seconds of your "finished product" and possibly your FCP sequence settings and Compressor settings. Cheers, G.

  • My audio gets out of sync with my video after capturing from Sony XDCAM

Everything was fine. I captured content from my Sony XDCAM, created pieces, no problem. Imported a .mov from my older FCP (5.1.4). FCP told me I needed to change my settings in order to use the .mov with my current timeline. I said OK, fine. Now, when I capture from my XDCAM some of the audio is in sync but it goes out fairly quickly. Any Ideas? I noticed in the bin the clips which are out of sync have a different data rate then the good ones. HELP!

  • Inquiring about mpg4 rapping from sony xdcam to premiere pro cs6.

I am currently using a sony ex1r and am trying to import the footage into premiere pro cs6, I copied the file to the desktop (BPAV) file, but the
software premier Pro cs6 keep saying that there is no audio/video files or stream not supported,  i.e. corrupted  files after I tried to use the media Browser. etc.  Is there a better way or can I get some help I tried to see if there are any upgrades in the system  I am curently using verson 6.05 I am not aware if there are any other uptates available. I cannot find anything on line to
correct this situation, are you able to point me in the right direction, you can email me with some way of resolving this situation at  [email protected]

You can download a fully functional demo of Sony Vegas 12 Pro.  That's what I did.  So far I like it and will be making the switch to Sony Vegas 12 Pro.
They also have Suite version which include HitFilm 2 Ulimate.  This program is like After Effects.  I haven't started playing with that yet.
Also, there is Movie Studio 12 Platinum Visual Effects Suite 2.  That's a mouth full.  Anyhow, it is based on Sony Vegas 12 and it comes with HitFilm 2 Express.  The Express version is a stripped down version of HitFilm 2 Ulimate.  The Express version is still a great program for adding effects.  For some people Movie Studio 12 is all they will need,
Both version, Vegas and Movie Studio, have GPU acceleration which is really nice.
I also just picked up Corel PaintShop Pro X5 Ultimate.  It sells for $69.95 and it can open and save .PSD files.  So I don't have to worry about all of the .PSD files I saved in Photoshop
Right now I have CS5 and CS6.  Premiere CS6 has a lot of bug, the AVCHD spanning clips, slow motion that jitters, caching problem, slower exports, etc.

  • Ingesting avchd from sony hdr-sr11-Editing 1080i 60 need a workflow

    Hello all,
So I have successfully ingested some test shots into fcp for a cousins wedding that i am shooting in a couple of weeks. The footage looks great once transcoded to apple pro res 422. I do have a few questions.
    1) In the log and transfer window do I need to check remove pulldown? I though this was for progressive mode
    2) Should I edit in a native 1440x1080i 29.97 sequence? then render and export that sequence?
    3) Do I need to worry about deinterlacing issues?
I have monitored it out through my canopus and it looks terrible. Alot of jagged edges. I have tried the deinterlace filter. No go. I looks fine on my monitor though?
    3) I will be mastering to SD/DVD
    4) Once complete, do I render out a reference quicktime apple pro res import that into compressor
then import that into studio pro? What is the best way to downconvert this final locked sequence?
    5) What would be a good workflow? I do plan on doing some after effects work for this.
I have searched all over for a workflow and everyone seems to have their own opinion.
    Anyone?
    thanks in advance,
    darryl

No. It doesn't work. The Log & Transfer window still shows "downmixing to stereo"!
I have also read in the Apple HD Users Manual that ALL AVCHD 5.1 surround sound will be DOWNMIXED to Stereo. Why they would do it is only they know! G H U !
Most Gurus very silent on this issue ... ignorance is bliss ... As the Silfen said (a long time back) Ozzie's lost to the pathways - don't let the glitter of mobility pale your thoughts of the solidity of the apps!

I need to ingest media from a Sony XDCAM HD deck. What software/drivers do I need to download? I believe it is a log and transfer app. Any ideas?
    Thanks much.

Just for future reference, AJA has a free app called "AJA VTR Xchange" that would capture just fine for you.  It would probably capture directly from the camera, also.

  • Importing P2 Media from Hard Disk?

This is fairly new technology and I have been having a very difficult time finding anyone who has done this, so any help/guidance is much appreciated. To be clear, I am not trying to ingest media from a P2 card reader/camera or P2 store. I have the media Card files on a G-Drive and I'v found the work-flow instructions for this task in the Apple "HD and Broadcast Formats" Users Guide in FCP 5.1.4 and I'm following it thoroughly, yet the P2 volumes do not appear in the Browser window of the 'Import from Panasonic P2' pop-up window no matter what path I take. Any ideas from one of the few that have done it?

  • Premiere Pro v6.0.3 won't accept drag & dropped files from Sony's XDCAM Browser v2.1

Premiere Pro reports a "generic file import" error when I try to drag & drop my video files (.mxf) from Sony's XDCAM browser directly into Premiere Pro project window.  However, I can drag & drop the same file(s) directly from a file folder on my computer and I can also use the "file import" from Premiere Pro drop down menu to import the same files with no problems.
Also, I can successfully drag & drop video files (.m2ts) from Sony's Content Management Utility into Premiere.
But why can't I drag and drop the same files (.mxf) directly from my Sony XDCAM Browser.   It appears to me that my issue is related specifically to XDCAM Browser & the .mxf files it supports (note:  Sony's Content Management Utility does support .mxf files so I can't simply use that Utility).

I try to drag & drop my video files (.mxf) from Sony's XDCAM browser directly into Premiere Pro project window.
You need to use the Media Browser within Premiere
    to import these files.
Copy the entire contents of the media card to an internal drive first.

  • Can I connect 2 sony bravia's, a sony home theatre, 2 macbooks, 2 ipads, 3 iphones and a dell laptop and stream media from my apple devices to my tv?

Can I connect 2 sony bravia's, a sony home theatre, 2 macbooks, 2 ipads, 3 iphones and a dell laptop and stream media from my apple devices to my tv? I have a sony bravia 600 series and 700 series and a home theatre( sony 7100 series)

The only way to stream directly to your TV would be if it is an AirPlay-enabled device.
There are many AirPlay-enabled devices but I am not familiar with Sony's products. If yours do not specifically indicate AirPlay capability, then you need an AirPlay-enabled device such as an AppleTV connected to your Sony TV or Sony AVR.

  • Great news from Sony about XDCAM Softwares and Snow Leopard.

Received this infos from Sony today and have think you would like to know about-it :
"Sony is currently studying positively to offer a solution to support Snow Leopard with XDCAM Transfer ASAP (much earlier than the previously discussed March 2010).
And will update to the market of its revised schedule in a couple of weeks."
I got the go for it and post it from Sony a few minutes ago , have a nice day.

Yes XDCAM Transfer 2.11 and XDCAM Browser 2.6 are now available for Snow Leopard.
Only XDCAM EX is fully supported at this moment but optical XDCAM HD is planned March 2010.

  • Final cut will not ingest files from drhd100

Has anyone had a chance to ingest media using the Focus Enhancements drhd100. If so I could really use their help on getting my system to ingest it. I'm not convinced that Apple has the setup properly I know that you can ingest with p2's and sony hddrive but I don't think they've tested focus jvc's

So here is an update per my conversations with both Apple and Focus- the manufacture of the JVC proHD DRHD100 Portable HDD.
    "IT'S JUST NOT AVAILABLE!"
At this point neither apple nor Focus have the ability to communicate efficiently between one another.
By efficient I mean, whether it be apple or focus who takes the lead, I don't care, but someone needs to this is a huge problem. I suspect that the burden should lie with Apple seeing how the media ends in final cut, but that is just my opinion.
Enough ranting and raving, back to the point.
Apple doesn't have the necessary metaData file structure setup to import or ingest the HDV codec created to read the span clips generated from this medium as a single capture. (Firestore or proHD DRHD100, etc.) The newly released update to the ProHD driver will allow 60p but then it has no way to collace the spanned clip back together. That Functionality in FCP is there only for the Panasonic P2 cards, for now. Same issue in my opinion as Sony not, being able to import/ingest from the Sony HDD Cams and its .m2t files.
Regarding transport stream in .M2T I've spent alot of time on this and it's a dead end. There is no codec currently that will transfer .m2t with proper timecode to .mov. I'm hoping a programmer out there will take up the challenge.
About the only way to work with the .m2t would be to use a software like GrassValley's Canopus editing or Sony Vegas. But that's a waist of my time and Money. To use those software only as converters. Urgghhhhssh@#$$
So I'll end by saying good luck and if I'm lucky and persistent maybe I can guilt trip Apple into building the first universal log and transfer window for an NLE. That's what needs to happen, a window similar to what Log and Capture provides for the tape medium, FCP or someone needs to build that for the HDD MEDIUM and optical Medium. Who knows maybe they already have that for the sony optical, but those cameras are out of my price range anyway, so I couldn't care less if those can be read into an NLE system.
    Thanks
    J.

  • Import media from card vs. Finder

Is it a bad idea to Import MOVs straight from the Finder to FCPx as opposed to Importing from the original card structure? The only difference I see it the "Camera Name" and "Reel" columns are blank, but maybe there is something else I am missing.
    Let me back up:
I'm seeing signifigantly slower read/write speeds when I import media that are within the original CF card data structure as opposed to when I import files that are "loose" in the Finder.
I have cloned my source cards from the CF media to my RAID, which is where I am importing from (there is no card attached to my computer).
I am importing to an Event that is on the same RAID as my cloned card.
When I use FCPx to Import media from the cloned card on my RAID, I am seeing read/write speeds of about 20MB/s.
If I copy the MOV files from the cloned card to the "Original Media" folder in my Event (again, on the same RAID as my cloned card), I get speeds around 300MB/s. If I import the MOVs that I copied to the "Original Media" folder, the Import into FCPx is instant.
    Thanks

try this plugin. it will import directly to FCP X from cam

  • Sony XDCAM

I am having black frames flash radnomly with MXF clips exported from Avid Media Composer v6.5
Shot using a Sony XDCAM F800
    1080 25p
    50Mbps
They play perfectly fine in Premiere.
CS6 AE just upadted to AE 11.0.2.11.
Black frames appear in different spots than they did before.
Doesn't look so great when broadcast in my opinion.

    Thank for your input.
I did search all other threads before posting my question on this thread.
They seem to relate to MXF files from Canon cameras which is of no use to me.
I guess there was one more piece of info that I should have added and that is as you suggest
that my MXF file is separated and is not part of the structure of subfolders that occurs on an
    XDCAM disk.
My file is a standalone single MXF file exported from Avid. Not other files are with it.
It plays perfectly in Premiere CS6, and in VLC player but not AE CS6.

  • Sony XDCam HD/ FCP 5.1

Anyone have the definitive answer as to whether or not 5.1 will support ALL of the XDCam HD codecs (incl 35 mb/s) and 24p? I'm getting mixed answers on this one. Sony has a plug-in for FCP that they showed at NAB but it didn't support 35 mb/s yet. Also, I don't have an Intel machine, I'm working on the Quad Core Tower.

Apple announced this at NAB, this will be implemented through the use of a File Access Mode driver (and a FCP import component) plugin from Sony. Although the XDCAM disc will be browsable via FW, the high def media is encoded in the MXF format, which is not yet natively supported in Quicktime. It is the Sony integration plugin (and transfer app) which will unwrap this MXF file and rewrap in a QT compatible movie file on your media drive. The Sony plugin/app already supports transfer of LP,SP and HQ content, the public release for the Sony component and transfer app is slated for end of June.
At this moment, Apple have not publicly released codecs to support the "LP" (18 Mbps) and "HQ" (35 Mbps) codecs, so although one may import the files, as a working solution the initial release will likely support only XDCAM HD at the "SP" quality (25 Mbps) in the timeline using Quicktimes native HDV codec.
When Apple release the LP and HQ codecs then Sony's plugin/app will already support that workflow.
There are a number of seminars already announced regarding the XDCAM HD workflow for FCP, beginning 28th June.
