Inherritance for Multi lingual fields

Hi all,
Does anyone know if there is a limitation on the ammount of characters inheritat from the primary language.
I have the English as PRIMARY and Portuduese as SECONDARY language with inherriatance set.
Example: We load long Description(field type:Large Text) as English(Primary Language), the data dispalyed in the Data Manager for the Portuguese(which is inheritat) only shows half of the data loaded(truncated).
In short it seems that the inheritat data is truncated.
I would appreciate any insight to this
Chris

Hi Chris,
as the field and its meta definition (e.g. field length) is identical, you should always see the same text if it is inherited. This seems to be a bug. Maybe you can report it in OSS?!
Best regards
Michael

  • WCM for Multi-lingual Website How To?

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle UCM, and would like to know if there is any link/document talking about WCM for multi-lingual website?
Which is the best way if a website contains content in different language such as English, Chinese, etc.
    Thanks.

Sapan has provided a good start with the "lc" iDocScript command. However, this only works for your static strings such as menus, etc.
You will need to put a lot of thought into how to handle multiple languages with your data files. A lot of people have several copies of their web sites (one for each language), but this gets kind of difficult after the languages start to add up. WCM is very good at multi-site management, but the number one thing to keep in mind for multi-lingual: do not be fooled, it is going to take some real roll your sleeves up old fashioned work.
There are several options for multi-lingual site architectures and I recommend you spend a few weeks with an Oracle WCM Architect talking it out (either form oracle or one of the many partners). It's just too large a topic for a forum post to answer satisfactorily.

  • How to define additional virtual image directories for multi lingual app.

    Hi,
In my ApEx application, for English language I want to use default image directory /i/, but for other languages I want to use seperate image directories like /i/fr/ for French etc. In - Translate Application -> Application Language Mapping , there is a text area to capture the Image Directory.
How can I define additional image directory (apart from /i/) in my multilingual application? What are the steps for defining these virtual image directories in a multi lingual setup?
    I am using ApEx v 3.1.2 on 11g with embeded PL/SQL gateway.
Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction are highly appreciated.

  • Selecting OS language for multi-lingual systems

    Hi,
I just got a T400 yesterday, which was supposed to include a multi-lingual version of XP (English/Swedish/Finnish). However, I never got the choice at startup to choose language, and it defaulted to swedish. I have already tried to restore the system to factory defaults from the Rescue & Recovery partition, but also then I didn't have a choice.
Is there anyone who knows how I can switch OS language to english, or, is there any way to check that my version is indeed multi-lingual?

  • Delimiter in Syndication Maps for Multi-Valued Fields

We are in the process of upgrading to MDM 7.1 from MDM 5.5.  In one of our syndication maps we are syndicating a multi-valued hierarchy field with no particular limit as to how many values the field can hold.  In the old MDM 5.5 Syndication map the xml output delimits this data with ";" (semi-colon) as in the below example.
    <Field>Level 1Level 2Value 1; Level 1Level 2Value 2;Level 1Level2Value 3</Field>
In MDM 7.1 the values are separated by a "," (comma) like in the example below.
    <Field>Level 1Level 2Value 1, Level 1Level 2Value 2, Level 1Level2Value 3</Field>
Is there anyway to change the delimiter in MDM 7.1 from a "," (comma) to a ";" (semi-colon) with out splitting the field?
    Thanks!
    Sincerely,
    Courtney

    Hi Brewer,
Is there anyway to change the delimiter in MDM 7.1 from a "," (comma) to a ";" (semi-colon) with out splitting the field?
Yes, for e.g in in your syndication map at source item lookup field display as follows
    Country
            |___ Code
            |___ Name
just map country to destination item instead of using Code or Name, multi vaule will display with ; operator
In one of our syndication maps we are syndicating a multi-valued hierarchy field with no particular limit as to how many values the field can hold.
if you want to set length of field you require to set properties at destination item as follows :
Fixed Column Width : the specific with  destination item
Max Item Length : Maximum length allowed for the item
Hope Above mention point will resolved your problem if not revert back

  • Merge PDF Object for Multi-Lingual Repository

    Hello All-
I have a repository with 3 languages and I want to merge 3 separate PDFs into a single record so I can assign them to their respective language layers.
The process I'm following (from the Data Manager Reference guide) is:
    1. Upload the PDFs to the PDF objects table
    2. Select all three PDFs
    3. Choose Objects -> Merge Objects from the Main Menu
    4. When the Merge dialog window opens, I double-click any language layer to assign the right PDF file.
At that point, Data Manager crashes. However, when I perform the same steps for merging images it seems to work.
This seems like a bug to me, but I thought I'd put it out here if anyone has any advice or can help me correct this.
    Thanks
    Tim
    MDM Version 5.5 SP06 Patch 1 (5.5.61.48)

    Hi Tim,
    Try doing this way
    1. In the Records pane, select all of the object records i.e PDF's you want to merge.
    2. Right-click on the single selected object record you want to survive the merge and choose Merge  Into from the context menu not main menu.
Since the right-click is necessary to identify the surviving record among the group of records to be merged, the Merge Into command is available only through the Records pane context menu and not the main menu.
Please let me know if this worked
    Thanks

  • Multi-Select Fields on Report

I have a report that includes a few multi-select fields which are associated with LOVs.
On the report, I have the fields with LOVs set up to have a Column Filter Type of Use Named List of Values to Filter Word Contains.
When there is only one value in the field, it shows the display value of the field as I would like. However, if there is more than one value, it continues to show the stored values in a string separated by colons.
For example, the display value for two values might be Smith, Bob and Jones, Julie. (Their stored values are BSMITH and JJONES, respectively.)
When there is only one value selected, the report displays "Smith, Bob" for example. However, if two or more are selected it will show the stored values, such as "BSMITH:JJONES", separating the values by colons. Can this be changed so that the columns with multiple values will show "Smith, Bob:Jones, Julie", for example.
How can I get all of the values to show in the displayed format for multi-select fields on both reports and charts?

  • Creating multi-lingual websites in ucm

    Hello,
is it possible to create multi-lingual websites in ucm?
The product webpage (http://www.oracle.com/products/middleware/content-management/web-content-management.html) says yes. But I can't find anything in the documentation or in Site Studio.
    Regards

Internal content server and site studio pages (and a few others) can use the "lc" iDocScript function and a set of resource files to localize things. From there you'll need to figure out an approach for multi lingual contribution regions which can be anything from some serious customizations to having a separate copy of the site for each language.

  • Change multi-lingual text for equipment

    Hello,
I'm trying to change some equipments fields, which are covered in BAPI_EQUI_CHANGE but also update multi-lingual text that can not be updated through this BAPI.
Is there any other BAPI or FM to update the equipment text?

    Hello,
There is no separate function module or BAPI for this.
We have used function modules INIT_TEXT and SAVE_TEXT for this.
These are generic routines that can be used for all long texts in all languages.
You always need following key fields for a long text : ID, LANGUAGE, NAME and OBJECT
To find out these values check one of  your manually created equipments (check header of one of the long texts).
Also check function group STXD for other usefull function modules.

  • How to make multi-box fields for name or address in a PDF form to be filled in?

I would like to know how to make fields for name and address in a PDF form.
I am now using Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows Vista. I have downloaded a form in the format of a PDF file. Basically it is just a file holding images of pages of the document, and there are no fields for me to type something on it using computer. This form will be used frequently by me, but I don't want to print it out and fill it in every time by hand. I want to fill it in in the computer and print copies of it when needed. The output will then be much more neat and tidy.
I have seen PDF forms with blanks for typing name and address, which means the form can be filled in on the computer before printing. They are special, as these blanks allow users to type name and address with every character occupying a box in the field, which consists of ten boxes or so. These are not ordinary textfields. I want to make similar inputting field as well.
Does anyone knows something about making these input fields with each character using 1 little box in the multi-box field? Any ideas are appreciated.

Does anyone knows something about making these input fields with each
character using 1 little box in the multi-box field?
Use text fields with the comb of x characters feature.

  • Logging takes in the field for multi-camera set-up with OL

Is there any way to designate separate cameras or link shots (to be labeled as CamA or CamB) to advance takes and make notes simultaneously?
OL doesn't really seem set up to use with documentary style shooting with multiple cameras, but maybe there is some way around this?
I just want to be able to add takes in OL to multiple cameras without a lot of typing between each take...and add notes that are applicable to multiple cameras within one shot and one take.
    Any ideas?

OnLocation CS5 has an entirely new feature set known as the File-Based Workflow that may be just what you are looking for. The basic steps are as follows:
    PRE-PRODUCTION (IDEALLY)
    1) Create a placeholder for one camera angle of a given scene/shot. (Consider using Adobe Story to prepare your script. Then you can hand the script off to OL and have it automatically broken down into scene-level placeholders. You will then still need to break those placeholders down to the shot level)
    2) Use the Camera Name property to designate the camera for that shot. If you use the "auto-matching" process, which you will likely want to do if you're entering notes per take, then this data point will be used to automatically mate a set of clips from, say Camera A to the correct set of placeholders.
    3) Fill in any other metadata that is common to other camera angles.
    4) Duplicate the placeholder for other camera angles & shots of the scene. To do this, you can use either the Duplicate Placeholder command or, to create multiple duplcates, the Break Out Scene command, both of which are available in the context menu when you right-click a row in the shot list. Note that both commands work with multiple rows selected.
    5) Customize each duplicate as appropriate.
    6) Repeat for your other shots.
    DURING THE SHOOT
    1) [Strongly recommended] For multi-cam shoots, synchronize the date/time on all the cameras. Ideally, synch them all to the date/time on the computer running OnLocation. This greatly simplifies the auto-matching process by saving you the hassle of repeatedly changing the camera date/time in OnLocation.
    2) Select placeholder(s) or clip(s) for the next shot.
    3) At any time between starting and stopping recording of the take, click the Timestamp button (upper left corner of the Project/Shot List panel). This step applies a timestamp to the placeholder, which makes it possible for the auto-matching mechanism to determine which clip belongs with which placeholder.
    4) Optional: Add temporal comment markers to timestamped placeholders, which will be aligned to the clip when you auto-match. (Note that PPRO does not recognize comment markers added in OnLocation.)
    5) Repeat steps 1-3 for subsequent shots
AFTER TRANFERRING CLIPS TO THE COMPUTER
    1) In the Media Browser panel, navigate to the folder where you copied the content.
    2) Select the clips.
    3) Click the Auto-Match button at the top of the panel. This opens the Auto-Match dialog.
    4) if this is a multi-camera shoot, check the appropriate box and select the name of the camera that this content came from. The list for the Camera Name setting is populated from what you entered in the Camera Name field for all timestamped placeholders. [Be alert for unintended variants. For example, if you entered "Camera A" for some shots and "Cam A" for others, you'll see both versions in the list. Before proceeding, you should standardize the entries.]
    5) Set the Camera Date/Time. If you synched the cameras' date & time to the computer's, then this step is not necessary (unless you previously set a Camera Date/Time offset in OL, in which case you will need to reset the Date/Time to match the computer's.)
    6) Click OK to proceed with auto-matching. OnLocation will proceed to find the placeholder whose timestamp fits within the Start and Stop Recording times of one of the clips and, if relevant, whose Camera Name matches your selection. All metadata from that placeholder will be merged into the clip.
[Please note that all of the foregoing is from memory--I don't have OL CS5 installed on this home computer--so I may have gotten the names of some of the controls wrong. I'm pretty confident that the basic workflow is sound, however.]
Here's the help page for this feature. I'm afraid it's does not really cover the particulars for a multi-camera workflow. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/onlocation/cs/using/WS89e4fde9608114f41e5eb2de124b454ea2b-8000 .html
As for entering the same string in the Comment field (or any other metadata property) for multiple placeholders or clips simultaneously, simply select whichever rows in the Shot List that you want to edit, then in the Metadata panel edit whichever properties you choose to. Your changes will be applied to all selected rows (assuming they're editable--i.e., not read-only or offline, both of which apply only to clips, not to placeholders)

  • Multi-Lingual JSP Reports

    Hi,
Can I use the customize xml functionality for providing multi-lingual capability for JSP reports?
I have been able to replace report fields labels with foreign language/customized labels for PDF and 6i-style HTML reports. How should one go about implementing this feature for JSP reports (reports with web source).
    Thanks,
    Bharat

    Hi Bharat
I do not think you can use the xml customization for web reports which you run from jsp engine and not through Reports servlet. However if character set setting in your web report jsp page matches with your required language, the report output with come in same lang settings. So you do not have any issue for the data part. And you can edit the web report jsp page to correct the Labels etc.

  • Multi Lingual Report issue

    Hi Everyone,
All our reports are multi lingual. By setting the "NLS_LANG" parameter the report displays french or spanish or english strings. The problem I am having is when I open this report in the report builder and make any change and save it, the report no longer displays the strings based on the "NLS_LANG" parameter. It only displays the strings in one language based on the "NLS_LANG" value that was set, when the report was saved.
Can any one help me with this issue. How do I save this report so that it continues to display strings/boiler plates based on the "NLS_LANG" parameter.

  • How to insert multi-lingual information into an NVARCHAR column

    Hi,
I've searched through the forum but couldn't find an answer, and have spent days on this already.
I have a Java Web Application, and the user may enter information in any language into one of the forms. I need to collect the user-input, and insert it into an Oracle 10g database.
    My database settings:
    WE8ISO8859P1 for Char/VarChar/CLOB fields and
    AL16UTF16 for Nchar/Nvarchar/NCLOB fields
I have defined the columns that require multi-lingual support to be NVARCHAR.
My question is, how do I insert into this column? From what I read, it seems that no conversion needs to be done, but doing this:
    update <table> set <column> = '什么'
does not work. The '什么' is some Chinese characters I copied and pasted from a Chinese site.
Apparently, if I convert the Chinese characters to a hex string and do this:
    update <table> set <column> = unistr('\xxxx')
    then it will work.
However, is there a way to avoid doing this conversion and let Oracle handles the conversion?
    Thanks in advance,
    Elaine

    Hi Denes,
I saw the example in your workspace and it is the same what exactly i want and instead of storing in one column i want to store the two selected values into two different columns. Also i need to restrict the selection of checkboxes upto 2 only. So If the user tries to select the third check box it doesnt have to accept.
Even I am ready to change my table as according to your example i.e. creating only one column. Store the values of selection into that column.
I was unable to see how u wrote the logic (Code) for your example in your workspace. It helps alot if you provide me the code for that example(Multi Checkbox One Column).
I was facinated after watching your examples in your workspace and am very much interested to know more about Apex.
Please help me insolving this as it is long pending issue for my requirement.
    Thanks a lot again,
    Sekhar.
