Initial backup disrupted, and now "Preparing backup" endlessly

I just got a Time Capsule and my initial backup was interrupted by a dead battery on my laptop.
Now, this AM, it seems to spin "Preparing backup" forever. Should I just wait?

I had a similar problem and no amount of waiting (like over 24 hours) solved the problem. I initially thought that it was just taking a long time to complete a "deep traversal" because of a database inconsistency, but that was not the case. Fortunately, the solution was remarkably simple.
Open time machine preference pane.
Select the "Change disk" button.
Select your time capsule or backup disk and click the "use for backup" button.
Apparently this will cause a reindexing of the database. It will again say "preparing for backup", but if you don't get an error message in the first 3 minutes or so you should be OK.
The next backup will probably still take hours, but after that you should be back to normal. For the first backup I would suggest that you turn off any automatic log off in the security preference pane, and also uncheck Put hard disk to sleep when possible in the energy saver preference pane. After the first "Deep traversal" backup you can go back to normal setting.

HELP!! I viewed my "backup" files, and now ALL of my photos are no longer "linked" to Lightroom.

I thought I was missing some files, so I viewed my backup files. I received a "warning" that Lightroom would restart and view my backup files. I did NOT receive any warning, that there was NO GOING BACK!! I've tried everything. I cannot re-link ANY of my photos. Well, I did just do one, and it told me all the other photos in the folder were corrupt and Lightroom would not be able to edit them (and no, it was not an exported .jpeg file). Fortunately, I am not concerned about this folder, that's why I tested it. I was forced to moved all of my photos from my C drive to my D drive because for some weird reason on this computer, my D drive is 5 times bigger and I ran out of room. When I did that, I was able to relink all the pictures. Sadly, it didn't keep my Folders, it just relinked them all by date. That I can deal with, even though it makes finding photos much more difficult, but I wasn't about to try to rename any of them and have to relink again.
Now, I can't relink any of them because it appears in Lightroom that all photos are back in the C drive and therefore, the new photos that I placed on the D drive are not there, and nothing will relink, period, not even the ones that were originally on my C drive!
I have never been so aggravated in my life. I LOVE Lightroom capabilities. I have version 2.3. When I look it up on the online help, all I get is how the photos are in whatever location they were saved, but they are linked, etc. I already know that part. I seriously wish I had NEVER looked at my backup files. I don't think I'll bother backing up stuff anymore because apparently looking at the backup messes up everything.
I fully anticipated that I would be able to go back, choose my folders on my D drive and have all of my current photos available. Sadly, not.
My user name should be FREAKED OUT!

Thanks! I've been practicing deep breathing between yelling at my computer. I use Windows 7. I was in my "regular" Lightroom photos, and I couldn't locate some pictures I took last December. So, I thought, well, why not look at the back up files? I'm normally excellent at remembering exact steps, but I'm so worried about all of my thousands of photos, I can only explain what I think I did. I went into Windows Explorer, and chose the backup files. When I did, I received the warning about Lightroom restarting and loading the backup photos. I hesitated for a full minute, but thought, well, isn't that what backup files are for? So, I selected it. Lightroom opened the backup photos without any problem. But, when I went back, and tried opening the photos that were linked to Lightroom, they were no longer linked. When I click on the formerly linked photos, they just open in Windows Explorer, not Lightroom. When I open Lightroom, it has says all the photos are "missing." All of the folders are listed in my C drive (in Lightroom), not where they'd been moved to on my D drive. The one photo I relinked, stated the photos in that folder could not be edited in Lightroom. So, I'm afraid to try to relink anymore of them. Also, as I said, any photos that I originally imported to my D drive are not showing up in Lightroom at all.
I would say, I normally learn software quickly. That was my experience with Lightroom. I installed it, went through all of the online training sessions, and have loved it. Admittedly, I'm sure there are features that I don't make use of that many people do, but I'm just a passionate photography nut, not a professional.
The online help basically explains the linking, and even how to relink if you "move" a file, a folder to another location. It doesn't cover this, or not where I can find it.
I've think I've given up on yelling at the computer, now I just have knots in my stomach about getting photos relinked. I have probably 80% of them exported, with the adjustments I made, but that does not make me feel one bit better.

E72 Deleted all messages and now OviSuite backup w...

Hello there - I am in such a mood and want my problem resolved so much that I will pay anyone that helps
Basically on E72, I had messages in inbox, my folders and sent section. Once I restarted phone and then phone froze. I felt the problem was due to Vlingo application, because I pressed home button to see which applications were open that were casuing the freezing. So I restarted the phone and all messages were deleted. However my messages were saved as a backup on another memory card. So I only lost a couple of texts. But the same, exactly same problem happened yesterday. Now all texts on both memory cards have been deleted. I have now disabled vlingo to open on start up.
1. The only backup I have now is a pc suite backup of texts, as an .nbu file which I can restore using pc suite or ovi suite. However after I restore, the messaging application does not open and I have to restart phone. Also the texts inside "my folder" do not appear, only in my inbox and sent. Is there any way, of getting all the texts to appear including my folder texts? I really need the texts in MY FOLDER from the backup.
2. Obviously the above solution doesnt give me all my texts back, so is there any chance of restoring the texts, from the memory cards even though it doesnt work when I insert it inside the E72. Im hoping by restoring old data inside the memory card by opening it on the laptop or something?
3. I heard, that texts do not get deleted at all, but just blocked, so anyone know if I can unblock them?
4. Or can my network provider send me texts, that I have recieved and sent over last couple of months.
Please anything that will help, from anyone thats experienced and can solve my problem or from a Nokia technician, anyone???

Which software do you use to back up - pc suite or ovi suite?
I used pc suite ONLY to backup, hence maybe why it didnt save messages in myfolder? I have 3 other old backups, but even they do not have myfolder messages, only inbox and sent.
The backups are a month old anyway..both the memory cards had new updated texts - anyway I can retrieve them? I still insert them every now and again, hoping they appear, but they dont.
Ive tried using Recuva software, but I dont know which format txts are saved in memory cards, like is it excel etc? So i dont know which files to recover, ive tried recovering everyfile, but then it says material is copy protected or something similar.
Youve been great help so far, regarding NBUexplorer. thank you very much. If you or anyone could help me with recovering memory card texts, then it would help, seeing as the backups are of no use now.
I still dont know why, on two occasions my e72 froze and after restarting it, all texts were deleted. Like I said, I saw vlingo start on both occasions, so Im blaming it on that

I deleted some backup folders and now i can't turn on backup

i thought i was cleaning up and deleted some backup folders. now when i click on time machine i don't have the option to turn on/off backups. if i attempt to access it via Finder it will not allow me or another networked computer connect.

Please explain what you mean by "backup folders".
Please update your "Profile" (under "My Stuff") to include the version of OS X you're using and the details of your hardware. The advice you need can sometimes depend on those details.

Nope, the apps stay there until you delete them.
I currently sync 2 iPhones and 2 iPod Touch units all to one iTunes store account, and per the Apple licensing, they all can run apps I have purchased. I had a similar question as you when I first started using multiple devices, so I sent an email to the app author for the app I wanted most to do this with. His response was that this is Apple's terms, so if I didn't want to purchase a second license to use his app on a second device, then I didn't need to (but he wouldn't stop me if I wanted to either). In the end, I found this app author to be very dedicated to his app, and very responsive to my comments/requests, so I did purchase a second copy of his app (yes, I had my wife create an iTunes account and purchase it under her account).

How do I stop a copy of backup files? Time Machine filled my extern HD, I bought a 2TB, drag and drop the old backup files and now my iMac has been stuck in "preparing copy" mode all night.

My 235 MB external HD was full, I bought a new 2TB and dragged and dropped the old backup files to it. Now my iMac is frozen in "preparing copy" mode. How can I 'unfreeze' it? How should I move the backup files from one external HD to the other?

Time Machine backup stopped and now external HD cannot be mounted

While I was doing a backup on Time Machine, it cancelled itself and said there was a problem with backing up my Macbook Pro. Now, when I go to Finder, I see that my external hard drive isn't mounted. I checked Finder preferences and I already have the option checked to view external hard drives in Finder
I can view the external hard drive in Disk Utility, and I even tried mounting it from there, but it doesn't. I tried verifying and repairing, and Disk Utility says the external hard drive cannot be verified or repaired.
My external hard drive is a WD 1TB My Book Essentials.

There's a chance a 3rd-party disk repair app, such as DiskWarrior, can fix it, but they're expensive (DW is about $100 US), and there's no guarantee.
You might be able to reformat it, with Disk Utility, and keep using it. Time Machine will have to start fresh, of course.
Or contact WD. The drive may be dead or dying.

Well, you or someone had to elect to encrypt your backup. This can also be enforced by an Exchange account if you have such on your phone. Regardless:
If on a Mac, and you elected to save such to your Keychain, you can recover it from your Keychain. Otherwise, you can't.
While you can continue to sync/backup, if you can't remember it & want to remove it, you'll have to delete your existing backups & restore the phone as a new device. Your data will be unrecoverable.

If that doesn't help it may pay to tear down and reinstall iTunes in the following manner...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
