Initial charge question

Just bought a 3G tonight...I intended to use it completely with the charge that it came with out of the box and then charge it fully and deplete it fully. Without thinking, though, I ended up plugging it into my macbook to sync. So did I mess up the right way to do the initial charge? Thank you.

The phone does not come charged out of the box and should be fully charged before first using it. Once a month or so, let the phone fully discharge (until it shuts off, not to the low battery warnings) and then fully recharge it.

I got my first Macbook Pro earlier. Tomorrow I'll be charging my mac, but what's the initial charging? Thanks.

Charge it until it reaches 100% which at 100% it will stop charging all by itself. The leave it connected to the AC whenever possible and only run it on the battery when not near or convenient AC power source. If you leave it connected to AC most of the time let it run on the battery every week or so or once or twice a week to work the battery.
BUT NEVER EVER Drain it down to zero. Recharge (connect to AC) at 20% or above if at all possible.

thanks for the help. the answers have varied and i was not sure if all the deviations were a result of the technical issues associated with this product. people are rightfully worried (and over-worried) that a player costing upwards of two hundred dollars may need extra attention, esp. if its sensiti've and moody.

  • Charging Questions, I Have a Faulty Battery...

Hi! I heard that the battery used in the iPhone can safely be charged during the night without causing problems and that draining it down to as low as it can be (even turning it on after it powers off on its own) actually helps the battery last longer. I can't provide a link to the site that told me this, unfortunately... Is it true, though?
Also, my iPhone has a faulty battery and I think it have a faulty speaker, too. The battery image on my iPhone never reaches the end no matter how long its charged. It reaches about 90%. I saw an image online comparing the battery picture that the faulty battery has and the one that reaches the end and glows on regular batteries. Anyone else have these problems? Thanks!

it is a good rule of thumb to take the battery and charge it over night before using it or keeping it attached to the charger. Then in the morning use it until it is completely dead. I only do this about once a month or sometimes longer than that but for the first initial charge you should do that. you say it doesn't get above 90%; i had a similar problem and then i turned it off when it got as high as it would go and turned it back on again and it started charging up further(to 100%) and i have not had any more problems with it; and it meets or usually exceeds apples specs for battery life. the speaker is probably not faulty it is just low allot of "complaints" have been voiced about the speaker being low. but try that if it doesn't work then by all means take it back because it is probably a faulty battery.

  • Charging question considering specific use schedule

IPad 16 WIFI new no issues.
Got a specific battery charging question. Have read the Apple recommendations and would like to get some expanded information considering the specific way I use my IPad please.
I use my IPad 2 days a week; Wed and Fri. At all other times the IPad is not in use.
So far I've simply left it on the AC adapter when not in use and completely drain and recharge the battery every 30th of the month as directed for Lithium batteries by Apple.
    Question is this;
Considering the specific way I use my IPad, should I leave it hooked up to the AC adapter on the days it's not in use, or would it be better to simply charge it back to 100% say on Wednesday after using it then take it off the AC and store it fully charged until Friday when I use it again?
In other words, which way would be OPTIMUM and cause the IPad less battery stress?
Many thanks for your advice on this.
    Dudley Henriques

completely drain and recharge the battery every 30th of the month as directed for Lithium batteries by Apple.
    That's not "directed".
The only reason it is recommended is so the system knows how much battery is left.
In fact, draining lithium batteries is not a good idea as they are not meant for deep cycling.
And completely draining the battery means simply using it till it shuts down (~15%), not till the charge is zero.
I would not recommend leaving it plugged in all the time.
Just use it and charge it when you need to. About once a month, don't charge it and just use it till it shuts down then do a full charge. Again, this is only so the system knows how much battery is left. It's not for "conditioning" the battery.

  • What is initial charge time?

What is the initial charge time for the iphone 4s?

    Until it is charged.
It is not very important how long, just let it charge to full.

  • Plugged in for 2 hrs after initial charge?

am I support to keep my power plugging in for 2 hrs when the initial charge in full (green) before unplug it & play with it until the battery is drain & leave it sleep for 5 hrs before charging again?

Until you've used the computer for a while (and thus given it some experience on which to base its estimate of your likely battery life in the sort of usage that's typical for you), the estimates it provides will be meaningless no matter which processor you're using. In fact those estimates are never very reliable, and provide no basis at all for comparing one MBP's or battery's performance against another or against Apple's claims of battery life. The only figure that is worth comparing against anything is the measured amount of running time you actually get on a charge.
You will get the most accurate time-remaining estimates possible if you always use your machine exactly the same way, visiting the same websites, doing the same amount of photo editing, gaming, Youtube video watching, etc. The more your usage varies, the less useful the time-remaining estimates will be. Opting to display the percentage of charge remaining provides more reliable information than displaying the estimated time remaining.

  • During initial charge, can i transfer songs? or should i wait till after? ASAP plea

hey guys...im getting my zen touch in the mail today around 0. i have classes from -3 and i heard you should full charge the battery once you get the touch and was wondering if i plugged the zen in and transfered the songs i have ready to transfer or if i should do the initial charge to full and then transfer (while keeping it plugged in)?

It doesn't matter because the mains adapter provides more than enough current to power both the player and charge at the same time, just make sure that the charge itself completes fully (it should take a maximum of 4 hours).

  • Charging questions

    1. How long does it take to charge the iPhone completely initially?
    2. Is there anything wrong about docking the iPhone and connecting the dock to the AC adapter to charge it up? The diagrams do not show this hook up scenario.
    3. How long should a fully charged iPhone last (approximately)?

Here are my answers to your questions:
    1. It took a couple of hours to completely charge...
    2. There is nothing wrong with using the AC adapter to charge the phone. That is what it is there for. Whether or not you use the dock doesn't make any difference.
    3. It depends on what you are doing with the iphone. If you have wifi and bluetooth on you will get shorter battery life. I typically get about 8 hours of use with mine, and about 1.5 to 2 days of standby.
    Hope you find this helpful...

  • IPad 3 Charging question

I just got my iPad 3 today, and it seem like the charger have some problem at first (but now okay, the charger is not charging my iPad 3 at first and I did a reboot, now all good.)
Well my question is, when you turn off your iPad 3 while charging, is that normal that the screen do not display any battery sign?
Just nothing? Or there will be a battery sign (like a green battery telling that you are charging the iPad 3?)

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Initial installation question

I just recently downloaded all of the Oracle 9iDS release for the Discoverer (Win2K). I got as far as running the 9.0.2.ids_win32.exe without any hitches. However, the next step is to "Run setup.exe (located in the \disk1 directory)". Now, we have a problem. I actually have a couple of setup.exes in the \disk1 directory that I created to initially download and setup my Oracle 9i db. My question is, which setup.exe am I supposed to be using? Is this the universal installer, or should there be another setup.exe somewhere that I should be using instead?
    Thanks in advance--

Make sure you're hard-wired to the router when you try to access it's address.
Check also if all LEDs are lit up properly. Power LED should always be solid.
Check if the router's still giving you an IP address.

  • Important Charging Questions

Recently, I bought an iPod Touch 4G. However, its charger (usb cable) wasn`t included with it. Therefore, my brother had from a long time ago a charger which he got when buying his iPod Touch 2G. By the way, he now uses it with his iPhone 3GS and he thinks that the charger affected his colors.
So I am scared to use his charger on my Touch 4G since it seems that his charger affected his iPhone. I also saw on forums that iPhone 3GS/4G and the iPod Touch 4G had a different voltage than the older ones so using an old charger would affect them.
To this end, here are my questions:
    1. What version of the IPOD Touch and iPhone uses 5V.
    2. What version of the IPOD Touch and iPhone uses 10V.
    3. Using an older charger would affect newer iDevice?
    4. Do wall chargers for iDevices change the voltage?
    Thanks for you help.

Per the following Apple charger description, all the iPhones and iPod Touchs use the the same charger.  It outputs the same voltage (5 V) as a compuer USB port.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB352LL/C?fnode=MTY1NDA4NA&mco=MTM3NDk1MjI
Some early hard-disk iPods used FireWire which is 12 V
Unless the 2G charger was defective, they is not way itcou;d adversely effect an iPhone.

  • Car charger question

ok, they apparently have no car chargers made specifically for the 3g, and some of the older ones are coming up with error messages...I went to the apple store and they said they don't know for sure and can't garauntee anything but sold me one that is basically a carcharger usb converter...He said these have been working...
It seems to work with no error message, but I do hear a VERY FAINT high high pitches hiss(similar to a misquito ringtone) when the phone's screen is on, coming from the charger, not the phone...
I remember this happening with my old clickwheel ipod car charger.
Main question...Is this ok, or is this abnormal? I only got it for emergency use and don't plan to use it unless I have too, untill the new ones come out...Also, where the heck are the 3g cases...They had a bunch of cases my grandma would wear...
***Also, I already lost my cloth, do they sell replacements.(I know any microfiber will do, but I liked that it said iphone on it and was the same size as the phone...lol

The hiss is ok, but you need to be aware that you need to turn your phone feature off while listening to the iPhone in the car radio (that is, put it in airplane mode). The iPhone is not shielded and will cause terrible interference with the car radio signal.

  • Premiere EL 11 - project initial settings question

    Hi,
Properties of the recorded video (by a JVC handycam) are as follows:
    - AVC 720 x 576 pixel - 16:9 - 25 fps - PAL - 8 bit - Interlaced - Bit (poxel*frame) 0.558
Properties of pictures I wish to use are:
    - 1944 x 2592 or 2592 x 1944 - 300 dpi - 24 bit similar resolution bigger or smaller
In the past in order to keep the Aspect Ratio 1:1 so that pictures in the video would display properly 1:1 mixing video and pictures I created a HDV 720p 25 (1280 x 720 25 fps PAL) project.
Once playing the DVD on a TV I was able to see the pictures not being distorted and the video fine.
On the contrary, what I was told was to set the Premiere EL project with the same video source properties, but if I wanted to insert a picture I would have had problems (PAR) and needed first with Photoshop EL to save a picture from squared to round pixel, something I do not know how to do.
I know about the PAR (which i really hate) and this is why I am asking the quesiton.
Q1. I wish to create a video project for a DVD 4.7GB. Obviously, the video will be PAL and 16:9. Wishing to include to the video some pictures. What do I have to choose as the initial project to work on from Premeiere EL when starting the program?
Please see video and picture specs above posted.
Q2. Also, any way to learn how to confert a picture with Photoshop EL 11 from square to round pixel?
    thank you,
    Spiro

    Spiro
For the still import in Premiere Elements where you want to perserve the transparency in the image after it is imported into the project, I would go with .psd or .png. I would probably go with the .psd for that. As for non transparency related images, I would prefer to go with the JPEG highest quality. The use of the larger file size PSD is preferred by many who cite JPEG degradation issues. In the absence of repeated Save As, I am not running into that issue with my choice of the JPEG image.
But, my questions to you now are not meant to get into the back and forth between JPEG vs PSD. For now, I wanted to suggest a generalized workflow to accommodate your 16:9 project and your 4:3 still images.
Open your Premiere Elements 12 Windows project
    File Menu/New/Project
and set the project preset to PAL DV Widescreen.....
before exiting that area, put a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project".
Next, in the Premiere Elements Expert workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preference/General with its option "Default Scale to Frame Size" and remove the check mark if there.
Then, since you have only a few photos, import your photos as is into the project using the project's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets. Scale the image for each to fit the Edit Mode monitor space provided by the project preset set.
    You can do this
    a. By clicking on the monitor and using the handles of the images bounding box
    or
    b. Selecting the file, going to Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded and its Scale property (with Constrain Proportions with check mark) and using the Scale slider for the scaling.
If your videos are 720 x 576 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second, just import them.
What does the rendered Timeline of all of that look like? Is your Premiere Elements 12 overall performance degraded by any of the above?
There are all sorts of variations on all this and differences of opinions, such as jpg vs psd, cropping/resizing (IrfanView or other) or not before import, etc. But, let us see what works here with Premiere Elements 12 in a Windows 7 64 bit provided with adequate resources to support the project.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thanks.
