Thoug you can use the computer while charging, wait until it is fully charged just to make sure that

Initial charge question

Just bought a 3G tonight...I intended to use it completely with the charge that it came with out of the box and then charge it fully and deplete it fully. Without thinking, though, I ended up plugging it into my macbook to sync. So did I mess up the right way to do the initial charge? Thank you.

The phone does not come charged out of the box and should be fully charged before first using it. Once a month or so, let the phone fully discharge (until it shuts off, not to the low battery warnings) and then fully recharge it.

I got my first Macbook Pro earlier. Tomorrow I'll be charging my mac, but what's the initial charging? Thanks.

Charge it until it reaches 100% which at 100% it will stop charging all by itself. The leave it connected to the AC whenever possible and only run it on the battery when not near or convenient AC power source. If you leave it connected to AC most of the time let it run on the battery every week or so or once or twice a week to work the battery.
BUT NEVER EVER Drain it down to zero. Recharge (connect to AC) at 20% or above if at all possible.

thanks for the help. the answers have varied and i was not sure if all the deviations were a result of the technical issues associated with this product. people are rightfully worried (and over-worried) that a player costing upwards of two hundred dollars may need extra attention, esp. if its sensiti've and moody.
i thought i may have undercharged it. the whole system locked, down to the power button. rotating the batteries didn't help either. i tried for a refund but newegg will only do an exchange/repair. rats ! i am going to have to tought this out.

You will get the most accurate time-remaining estimates possible if you always use your machine exactly the same way, visiting the same websites, doing the same amount of photo editing, gaming, Youtube video watching, etc. The more your usage varies, the less useful the time-remaining estimates will be. Opting to display the percentage of charge remaining provides more reliable information than displaying the estimated time remaining.

hey guys...im getting my zen touch in the mail today around 0. i have classes from -3 and i heard you should full charge the battery once you get the touch and was wondering if i plugged the zen in and transfered the songs i have ready to transfer or if i should do the initial charge to full and then transfer (while keeping it plugged in)?

It doesn't matter because the mains adapter provides more than enough current to power both the player and charge at the same time, just make sure that the charge itself completes fully (it should take a maximum of 4 hours).

IPod initial charging

Good day to all!
i just got my ipod video and it still has 20% battery power. When I connected it to the usb port (not usb 2) it started to charge but after a few mins. it stopped charging. I tried to connect it a couple of times but same thing happens.
will this affect my ipod's battery performance since im charging it for the first time? thanks in advance

Are you using the front port on your PC? Often these have less output than the back ports. Also, I highly suggest installing a NEC based USB 2.0 port. If you have a lot of files, 1.0 is a real drag.

Initial iPod charging suspiciously fast

I just got a brand new 2nd Gen 1MB iPod (well, it may have been sitting around for a while before I won it, since the 2MB version is current, but it was factory-sealed, so it's new).
I put it in it's dock, then plugged it into one of the USB ports on the back of my Mac Mini, expecting it to take up to 4 hours to charge.
I went through the iTunes registration and setup process and loaded some songs. By the time I was done, the charging light went from blinking orange (data transfer) to solid orange (still charging). It took less than 45 minutes from initial plug-in for the orange charging light to turn green.
I know "up to 4 hours" means 4 hours or less, but less than 1 hour seems suspiciously fast. I haven't tested how long it takes to drain the battery, but have other people had similar results in which the initial charging was a lot faster than expected, yet had no problems with battery life?

iPods retain somewhat of a charge from the factory, so usually the battery still has a good amount of charge in it. Besides, my second-generation iPod shuffle takes much shorter to charge than my iPhone 3G because the iPod shuffle takes very little power and needs just a very small battery.
