Initial iPhone 5s setup in German?

I just ordered an iPhone 5S from Apple and when I received it, the initial languages was set to German.
I had the option to select either English or German and continue, but it strikes me as weird that German would be the default for a phone ordered in the U.S. and shipped to the U.S.
Maybe I swiped while the screen was showing "Willkommen?" Is this a feature?

Actually it wasn't the language selection, but the "Select Your Country or Region" screen. Germany is first, followed by United States (even after I pick English as language)

Why would an iCloud backup file be grayed out on an initial iPhone 5s setup screen?

I have a 4s with the latest update and recently upgraded to a 5s. I backed everything up in iCloud on the 4s before setting up the 5s. After everything is done, I stated the 5s setup. However, after I select 'restore from iCloud,' the backup file I need from my 4s is grayed out (no error message) and is not selectable.
My first thought was that the new 5s didn't have the latest update. So I started the phone, updated it, and then followed the recommended instructions on how to restore a backup file. The restoration seemes to wipe the ios update and the backup file is still gray.
Scoured the forums and google for an answer and came up with nothing. So I pose it to the group.

UPDATE (13-Jan 2015): Took my phone do a different AppleStore and had an appointment with a Genius. The Genius hinted that I should call AppleCare (1-800-APL-CARE) and tell them my story. He said that it was not possible for him to do it, but that by escalating the problem to AppleCare that they may help. I was on the phone with a rep and his supervisor for about an hour before they told the Genius to replace my phone as a one-time out-of-warranty replacement. They stated that because the phone was working fine before the update, and showed no damage, that they would grant my request. Yay Apple for making this right!
This is a known bug, error 101 or something. Only solution they have at the moment is warranty replacement.

Itunes displays Iphone setup in German?!

Trying to sync my new Iphone to Itunes to load an old back up on to it, however when I plug it in itunes displays the Iphone setup in German?! Both my Iphone and Itunes languages are set to english so don't know why! Please help!

Problem solved...
I think mine was in Russian or something. IDK but I couldn't read it. I called Apple and turns out all I had to do was reboot iTunes. I had tried unpugging the phone and that didn't work but if you X out of iTunes and reopen it should solve your problem =)

My US apps are not showing up on my German IPhone after setup and Sync

I have just moved to Germany. Shortly after arriving I purchased a new IPhone 4S with a plan from Vodaphone to use in place of my 3GS that I had in the US. I backed up my old phone and then set up the new phone. I had to put in my German address and phone number and then of course the apple store info was all in German. I can probably work through that but after sync'ing my new 4S, some of my Apps did not make it over. I can see them in ITunes but when I reselect them and re-sync, it says the app cannot be found. Not sure why I could use an app in the US and not be able to use it in Germany. Am I missing something regarding setup that I should be doing differently?

Isn't iTunes 10.5 r 9 a beta release for developers? If that's the case then isn't there a special web site for developers to discuss issues (and they are not supposed to discuss them on the public forum)? If you're not a developer and have this through unofficial channels then I'm not sure you can expect full functionality.

Can't get past the initial "Slide to Setup" screen on iPhone 5c

My new Virgin Mobile iPhone 5c arrived a little while ago, and I've gotten as far as installing the SIM card and am now stuck. The multilingual "Hello/Slide to Setup" screen won't go away. I slide, and a voice says "Hello. Slide to setup" (or one of the non-English variants) and nothing happens. Am I oblivious to something? Please help.

Transfer data from old to new iPhone after setup

I Got a new iPhone today and they set it up in the store using my iCloud accout be it hasn't been updated in a few months so the data was out of date. I'm trying to transfer the data from the old phone to the new one using iTunes but I can't figure out how after doing the initial setup? I haven't really used the phone yet so I dont mind doing a factory reset as long as it won't effect my cell and data ( I don't want to have to go back to the store).

You need to plug in your old iPhone first. Then, select backup in iTunes 12. After finishing backup, plug in your new iPhone. You can choose to Restore Backup in the iTunes 12 which you had backup on your old iPhone.

IPhone Mail Setup Issue

I had configured my iPhone to access my corporate mails through Microsoft Exchange server (Office 2003 server and it uses RPC type connection). At first I was able to access my mails, but in my organization it is mandate to change the password every 60 days. So I changed my password word and tried to do the same in my iPhone. It connected to the email initially with my new password. After that when I check my account settings in iPhone it still shows the old password and it tries to connect to the mail and then locks my account. I tried following things
1. Deleting the email account and recreating the new one but it still shows the same old password even though I give the new password while I setup the account.
2. Deleting the email account and then Resetting the network settings to factory setting and creating the new email account again with new password but it still connects with the old password and locks my account.
I do not want to restore my iPhone with the option in iTunes and also do not want to use the erase all the settings in iPhone. Please help me to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thanks in advance. I am using iPhone 2.2.

I previously had an iTouch (3rd generation - 32 GB), now I have a new iPhone 4S. During the beginning of the setup process in iTunes, after reegistering the new iPhone with APPLE, when I am asked to set it up as new iPhone, or to restore it from my previous iTouch backup, which do I choose? It isn't clear to me, and I can't find the answer anywhere.
If I choose to set it up as a new iPhone, will I lose all my apps and all my previous settings (and start over)?
My computer is a MacBook laptop.

If you set up it as new, you will lose the settings, but not your apps. You can try to restore from the backup because you will recover your settings and your apps automatically

Connect iPhone and Setup as new iPhone appears when it's not new

I connect my iPhone 4, and get the iTunes 2 options, Setup as new iPhone, and Restore. I don't want to reset my iPhone. It has pictures. I tried Setup as new iPhone, and then it's starting synching to my husband's iPhone. I'm not sure what is happening, so I ejected and stopped the sync process.

I've checked the wire, but that's a good point, I'll see if I can find another cable to test this out. I'm not sure what you mean by the external power symbol, the symbol I'm seeing is the plug in the battery, the same symbol I see when my phone is fully charged and plugged in to my computer or a charger.
I also made sure my computer wasn't asleep, same issue.

IPhone in "setup new phone" mode all of a sudden

Yesterday I plugged my iPhone to the charger.
Today when I took my iPhone 4, I noticed there was a gray linen background on the lock screen, there was a little round icon with an "i" above the unlock bar. I was expecting the picture of my family.
I unlocked it and was presented with a "choose a language" dialog. Hmm. So I scrolled down to Swedish, then back to English because that's the language I use on all my devices, and selected that.
I THINK I saw some cyrillic characters at the top left where the operator typically is displayed, then it changed into "No Service". That made me very wary.
Then I had to go trough the whole phone setup. Activate the phone. The phone knew none of my WiFi passwords. Luckily the last iCloud backup was from when I plugged in the phone last night, but it's still a hassle to set up everything.
I had to put in a new lock code and it kept interrupting me setting that up with other notifications. Our office exchange accoung required a lock code. Apple should have a look at this, notifications interrupting each other during setup...
But what happened? That what really buggers me! What possibly could have factory resetted the phone in the middle of the night? A bug? Have I been compromised somehow? Was it remote wiped without my knowledge? It wasn't turned off, i just pressed the home button and my iPhone had become a out-of-the-box thing with all my stuff gone! I tried to search the forums, I checked the usual Mac sites and tried to google around but I could not find anyone whith the same problem. Have I been compromised? Did my phone somehow receive a remote wipe?
The Diagnostic & Usage setting is completely empty. I had hoped that there maybe might have been logs.
Now I have to check settings because I use several itunes accounts (since I want to share photostream with my family but not imessages) and the setup process did of course not account for that. I suppose all my WiFi network passwords are gone. Or then all this stuff got restored by the iCloud backup. I can only hope. It seems my phone will be downloading apps and podcasts a few hours.
Listening status of my Podcasts is toast for sure, since that bit isn't cloud enabled yet and I haven't synced with iTunes for a few days.

Root cause found. I'll still post this in case someone else finds himself in this perculiar situation then his google search is maybe more successful. Turns out my youngest boy apparently could not leave my phone alone. Our phones are set up to erase all data on the phone after 6 failed passcode attempts.
Since I was too cheap to purchase additional storage on iCloud I had to excluded backup of the camera roll (the pictures are on Photostream anyway) which means all videos made the past few months including of one birthday are all gone

It's rare, but it does happen. You could try a restore & see if that fixes the problem.
Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes.
Connect your phone, right click it in the device pane and choose backup.
When completed, right click the phone again and choose restore from the backup you just made. Disconnect your phone and see if the problem goes away. If not, it might be a hardware problem since you've stated you did a reset.
Reset: Press the sleep/wake button and home button at same time, keep pressing until the apple logo appears and then release.

How can I access advanced settings during initial email account setup?

Having just bought an iPad Air, I've tried to setup my email account (with John Lewis) on it during the initial startup process and repeatedly failed, both with SSL on and off. I imagine that I need to change the port settings or some other advanced parameter, but I can find no way of accessing them. It looks simple once you have the account set up but obviously that is of no help here. I apologise if I am being dopey but this is my first experience with an Apple product. Thanks for your help. Does the north american iPhone 4S' siri speak German?

Just wondering if I buy an iPhone from the Canadian apple store if it will have the option of using Siri in German. It's important for me that it can, so I'm not sure if I want to get it off the apple store here or find a european one that does have the German included.

There will be idiots that hack their iPhone removing all built-in security included with iOS regardless what Apple does or doesn't do.

Issue with iPhone 4 setup/restore

I had an iPhone4 which was replaced by a new iPhone 4, due to an issue with the proximity sensor.
Hardware details:
My Macbook Pro to which the iPhone is synced to has the latest version of iTunes, the old phone was running iOS 4.3, while the new one had iOS 4.2.
I tried to do a restore (setup) on new iPhone, but I kept getting an error. I then checked iOS on new phone and realized it was running 4.2. After which I updated it to 4.3. This still didn't fix my problem with restore, as they were still failing. So I set it up as a new phone. Assuming all my data would be safe and I could then copy to my new iPhone.
When setup was complete I saw that my address book and photos (which came from my original iPhone) were all gone from my laptop. After searching everywhere, I found a file that appears to be my iPhone data backup, in the trash bin. I assume it contains all my data from the old phone.
My question is, am I correct in that, this is my cell phone backup data file and if so can it be retrieved?

IPhone 5 AppStore got German?

My AppStore just got German. (Im Norwegian and im in Norway)
Just after my syncing my iPhone 5 yesterday (Around 15 hours when you see this)
The only thing i did in the syncing was adding some music. (German music)
