Initial loupe view appears a little soft in LR3

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate
12 GB ram
30 inch monitor resolution 2560x1600
12000+ images in catalog
Standard previews set to 2048 Medium
Detail in loupe view seems to be soft.  When I zoom in, the detail is great.  When I zoom back, the detail remains good.  If I close LR3 and reopen, I have to zoom in and out to get the best detail in loupe view even on the same image.  I deleted the preview folder and regenerated previews at 2048 High Quality.  The same problem occurs.  This is making it hard to determine the quality of my shots.  It’s too time consuming to zoom in and out on every shot.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the update Ian,
Maybe next time around.
That's really the only problem that I'm having, so otherwise I'm real happy with 3.2.
Thanks for all the hard work!

  • Preview Panel Appears Brighter than Loupe View In Develop Module

    Settings and Hardware:
    - Macintosh 15" Power Book G4
    - Lightroom Version 2.1
    - Attached Apple Cinema Display
    - Mac OSX 10.4.11
When viewing Lightroom on the PowerBook monitor all is well and the Preview Pane shows the same brightness value. Yet when the Lightroom interface is brought over to the Cinema Display the Preview pane in the Develop Module is significantly brighter than the main image in the Loupe View.
Any help with getting the value of the Preview Pane to the same brightness value of the Loupe view would be of help. Or if there is a simple explanation as to why this happens, that would also be appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jarrod.

Monitors should be calibrated at around 120 cd/m2. This is usualy around 2/3 brightness for Cinema displays and around 4 to 5 clicks back from maximum on a mac book Pro. If you don't, you'll think all your prints are far too dark.
    >being a different luminance than the loupe view image on the same monitor
huh? I thought you were comparing between monitors?
Lightroom might not realize that you moved the entire interface to a different monitor and use the wrong profile or it forgets to use the different profile for the preview. This is very common even in managed apps. Lightroom does have a nice dual monitor interface now that uses the correct profiles for both monitors, but I don't think it likes the main window being dragged over.

  • Initial Page View Overide w/ Download?

    Hello,
I'm having an issue with my initial page view settings. I have them set to two-up (cover page) which I can view just fine as can a few colleagues I emailed it to. Now the problem occurs once I upload the spread to our ftp site and try to dowload it from our website (as our clients will need to do). Once downloaded it defaults to Single-Up. Anyone have the same problem?
    A little more info:
    Using Adobe Acrobat Pro X
    Using Google Chrome
Open settings: "Restore last view" is not clicked
    I cleared my cache
The (single-up) file was replaced on the ftp with the same name, overiding the older copy (single up). If I click it within the FTP, I see it as two-up - it is on our website that it appears as single-up.
Is this an issue with Google Chrome? Is there something I'm overlooking? Anything will be of great help. Thanks.

    It is in fact Chrome:

  • Screen redraw bug when panning in Loupe view at high magnification

I think I've found a bug in Lightroom.
Using the Loupe view at higher than 1:1 magnification and panning whilst zoomed seems to cause screen redraw artifacts. It is most noticable at high zoom (say 11:1) when panning diagonally. The edges being revealed draw incorrectly. Seems to only happen once the 1:1 preview rendering has been completed, initial panning whilst the preview is being rendered looks fine. Zooming out and back in redraws the screen correctly, but subsequent panning still causes artifacts.
I first thought it must be my graphics drivers, but have updated to the latest available driver (version 7.2 21 Feb 2007) for my ATI Radeon 9800 and the problem remains. I have also tried this on my laptop a Sony VAIO VGN-S3HP (with NVidia GeForce 6200 based graphics) with the same problem. Therefore as this happens on both a NVidia and an ATI card I can't blame my graphics drivers any more.
    Can anyone reproduce?
    Best regards,
    Andrew

I've just seen a similar problem on my DELL laptop. Anything at 2:1 or greater magification gets the jagged edges whilst panning up and down in loupe mode. This makes the compare mode to be worthless as the two images can't be compared as they each suffer different amounts of jaggies.
Windows XP, Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset.
I'm going to raise a bug report.

  • Loss Of Loupe View

I wrote of this phenomena when I had LR 1.2 Now I have LR2, and I am getting the same problem as described below:
After importing 200 plus photos and looking at them in the library, I lose the loupe view. In the loupe view I either see the same thumbnails I see in the Grid view or simply a blank screen. It appears that the view changes to loupe, but the center display does not. Seems to me that somehow the system is getting overloaded. However, I have an AMD dual core and 2G of RAM, so it ought to handle almost anything I throw at it.
    ATI Radeon Express 200 256MB
Anyone every experience anything like this?

Never seen, nor heard of this before.
    Try a video driver update.

  • LR screen problem: dims automatically in loupe view

I have a bit of a problem that appeared the past weeks... Lightroom dims the screen in loupe view; when I adjust exposure or click into a menu, the screen lights up again, but dims very fast once out of that... makes it near impossible to correctly edit exposure.  Cycling to light settings doesn't help any; checked power settings on the display adapter as well... but since it does not happen in other software on my Win7 64-bit, it seems LR specific.
I don't recall having changed any settings though; not sure what is triggering this.
Hope someone can help out, because LR has been pretty useless to me for a few weeks now.

This can happen whilst LR is rendering larger previews for the second monitor. It should only take a very short time and "rendering larger previews" should appear on the screen until it has done so. You can set how long LR retains these preview files in the catlog settings.

  • Loupe view caching- not even two images?

Is there a way to adjust how many previews are kept in RAM for the loupe?
I've found that most of the time I can't even bounce between two images without waiting for several seconds for the image in the loupe to appear. This is on a first-generation macbook pro with 2GB of ram, no other open applications, and 20GB of disk space free (and just defragmented.) The preview quality slider is set to the middle position. I shoot exclusively in RAW and upgraded recently from a 10D to a 40D; I'm guessing that Aperture only allocates a fixed amount of memory to storing previously viewed images, and the larger 40D images are too big for the default settings.
Sometimes I can go through three images without seeing the "loading" prompt; other times, I hit the arrow keys back and forth between two images, not even moving the mouse to compare two shots, and see "Loading..." for long enough that I can't make a visual comparison between the two images for finer detail. In one word: useless.
Is this a restriction of VRAM? System memory? Graphics processor in the original MBP? Pure "policy" in software, ie, "we will use 40MB of memory to cache previews"? Anything that can be changed via 'defaults'?

    Janet,
The loupe is "smooth" panning around the image (except after more than 1-2 adjustments are applied, then it rapidly deteriorates.) The issue is switching between two photos rapidly to compare details such as "who's looking which way" and "what is in focus." I can sit for 20 seconds or more flipping between two images next to each other in the strip, and each time "Loading..." will appear and the loupe will be blank.
I just tested it on a Core2 MBP (2.3ghz, 2GB), and received different behavior. The "loading" delay happens once or maybe twice, then I can repeatedly swap between two images with no "Loading", but two is the limit- seeking to a third causes the first image to drop out of the 'cache'. The newer system has only about ten photos in it; the older system has almost 20GB of 10D images and another ~2-3GB of 40D images. I'm not entirely sure how valid the comparison is, then.
Both systems have 256MB of VRAM, and both are the Radeon X1600 (which is curious- I expected the Core2 machine to have a newer card. I guess it's one of the very early Core2 machines. I wonder if they simply bumped up the clock speed- the original MBP's X1600 was intentionally downgraded by Apple in clockspeed.)
I'm not using sRGB space- I shoot everything raw and have always set my cameras for Adobe RGB. I'm not a new user of Aperture, so I'm aware of thumbnail/preview building etc. I've tinkered with it on other people's machines since v1. I've never witnessed an Aperture crash, but I've only played maybe once or twice a month.
I've also noticed the quality of display in the main viewer window to be exceptionally poor with images from the 40D; it seems very fuzzy, and almost like it's up-sampled from a low resolution version. Sharp edges are very oddly (and poorly) aliased; almost like Aperture is using the preview image from the camera, instead of building its own.
Another thing: sharpness on exported JPEGs, both full size and scaled down, seems downright lousy. Odd...a couple of versions ago, they were too sharp, it seemed.

  • Email Photo option Greyed out in Loupe View in Library Module on Mac in Lightroom 5.7.1

In Lightroom 5.7.1 on Mac OX X Yosemite, when in the Library module, in Grid View the option to Email photo is available; however, when in the Loupe View, the Email Photo menu option is greyed out.  I have seen this question posted on the web and there are no answers anywhere.  Please address this issue as soon as possible since this appears to bug.

    Hey Scott,
After expermienting extensively (well relatively speaking), I found that hardware wise, there needs to be a AC3 decoder on the end where the audio is being sent. And without that chip there the AC3 option won't work weather or not you can get it showing. Our interfaces don't have this AC3 option so theoretically speaking we would have to create/purchase an AC3 to Analogue converter, and take the outs to our monitors/inputs of our interfaces. There seems to be no easy hardware or software work around, because even if the software workaround were to get the AC3 option available it seems that it sends the AC3 option out over the SPDIF/ADAT connection meaning the software didn't really convert it it just made it possible to send the signal. So I didn't have any luck. In the end it seems you need a AC3 decoder/DA converter to 5.1 out which they sell but not at a reasonable price. Hope I was of "informative" assistance, if not any actual help towards solving the problem.

  • Grey thumbnail, grey loupe view-- no photograph displayed in library mode

When I import a new batch of photographs my library mode, both in grid and loupe view will not show my new photographs.  And not that it just takes a bit of time to load-- the picture will not show, only gray.  This has only happened in the last month or so.  Previously everything worked well.
To get my pictures showing I have to go to develop mode and view them.  The loading is taking considerably longer than it used to as well.  I've been into my preference pane and can't see what to do.  As per a tutorial I upped my "Camera Raw Cache Settings" to 50 GB.  The problem hasn't coincided with this change however.  I don't know what is going on but I am frustrated to have all photos load but not show up in Grid or Loupe mode.
Any ideas?  I have over 7,000 photos in library.  I've validated and checked library and it comes back okay.
    Thanks for your help.
My computer is a newer 27" imac so I should have plenty of juice to run the program.  Hard drive space isn't an issue as I have a 1TB.

Sounds like a corrupted preview cache.  Let's test that theory.  Close LR. Find your catalog on your hard drive, and rename the Previews.lrdata or move it to another location - you can delete it later when we know the new one's ok.  Now restart LR, go to Grid view, select all and go to Library menu > Previews > Render Standard Previews.  Hopefully that'll bring back your previews and if everything looks correct, you can then delete the previous one.

  • Error message in loupe view

I'm using Lightroom 1.3.1 in Windows XP. Sometimes when I'm looking at pictures in a library using loupe view, instead of seeing an image I see a grey rectangle where the image should be. At the top of the rectangle there is an error message that says "There was an error working with the photo." At the lower left hand corner of the rectangle there is a message written upside down in red letters that says "Error - A2of Memory - B". Once this problem happens I can no longer display images that were previously displayed normally. If I restart Lightroom it goes back to normal. I think this problem is more likely to happen if I am moving through the images rapidly, not giving Lightroom enough time to finish each preview. Is there some way to avoid this, besides going through the images very slowly?

    HI friend,
Just check whether the error is due to the custom error message or standard error message.
If its standard then you have done any mistake which has makes the view to exit. If its custom message then it should change after you have changed the message.
If custom message , Just try activating it completely and check again. Goto SE80 and activate the function group and see is it showing any error.
    Thanks,
    Sri Hari.

  • Problem with loupe view after upgrade to LR 2.3

Has anyone had any problems similar to this? I could use some help. In the library module when I go to loupe view I don't see the selected photo, instead it gets frozen up or something. For example, if I open up a web browser on top of LR the image of the web browser is stuck in the loupe view. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for your reply.
I can try with 1.5 (not installed on the server), but this is from the readme file:
    1) To use APEXExport, a JDK of version 1.4 or greater must be used. Additionally, the Oracle JDBC
20 class libraries must be in your CLASSPATH.
So apparently, the JDK requirements didn't change.

  • In Lion, Safari pages hang in full screen mode.  If you exit full screen mode, the next page you intended to view appears.

In Lion, Safari pages hang in full screen mode.  If you exit full screen mode, the next page you intended to view appears.
This happens nearly every time I use Safari.  I will be clicking on links, when it appears to hang.  By exiting full screen mode, upon minimizing the next page I was intending to view appears.  This does not happen on all websites, but many that I visit.

Here's a stupid question, but I'm sure I'm not the only one - how exactly DO you minimize the safari fullscreen mode??  I keep reading about orange or yellow tabs which don't exist, at least on my 27 iMac. Control m doesn't work either. I wish Apple would have a basic 3 or 4 page instruction manual on this. Unless there are major bugs still.  By the way, this is only one of many problems I'm having with Safari.  Occasionally the tool bar just dissappears. And, don't get me started about how the dock in Lion simply stopped accepting some icons, including Firefox. None of these problems happened when I first installed Lion. Each upgrade seems to have more bugs, not less.

  • Detail seen different in Develop view and Loupe view

I recently took some aurora pictures, and was adjusting them to put in a slideshow, and noticed something peculiar, i.e., that the details seen in the Develop module are less than those seen in the Loupe view in the Library.  This is true in several pictures.  The Develop view (2nd picture) is smoother and shows fewer of the fainter stars than the Loupe view (first picture).  I hope it shows in the pictures below, which I created by using the Snipping Tool in Windows.
    Why is this the case?
The problem is that the Slideshow results in LR seem to be closer to the Loupe view than the Develop view.
The Exif information is as follows:
and the adjustments I made were:
    and
    I'm using the LR 2014 v 8.7.1, Camera Raw 8.7.1.
    TIA.

    Hi Michael:
You're right. When I magnified the view to 100%, the results in the two modules were identical, as you said.
It does, however, raise a practical difficulty for me.  With these kinds of long exposure, high ISO pictures, if I zoom in to 1:1, I find it extremely difficult to make any adjustments because the noise is so high.  I would basically set all the noise sliders to max, and the details to minimum.  However, this results in overadjusting  for noise and losing too much detail when the picture is viewed zoomed out to fit on a computer monitor as a slideshow.  Usually, this is not a problem, but at the high ISO/long exposures of these pictures, I find it very difficult to work in the develop module at 1:1.
