Initial View in a PDF Portfolio

I have just started using the new portfolio feature, I have four forms that I've combined. I am using the Grid with Preview option to layout the files. When I open the portfolio it always opens to the same page in the second form, how do I change it to open to the first page of the first form?

Michael,
Can you explain precisely?
Cover Sheet? In Acrobat Pro 9? Where?
A search in the Help file returns nothing when searching for "Cover Sheet" or even "Welcome Page."
In Acrobat Pro 8, there was an explicit command to set the currently viewed document as the start document.
The Help files describe setting an Initial View for a Portfolio; but when you select Portfolio Properties... from the File menu, you get a Document Properties dialog, not a Portfolio Properties dialog. You only get an Initial VIew pane for a document.

  • Initial View issues with PDF portfolio

I am creating a pdf portfolio in Acrobat 10.1.1.  The layout is Freeform, when I save it and email it to clients, it never opens to the same size, depending on their screen size or window size, it either stretches or squeezes the file folders and the become out of place (and cover up other things).  Is there a way to set the properties of the pdf portfolio so that it always opens up to a certain size?  there for no matter what size the monitor is my clients use, it will open to how its designed?  I know you can set up pdfs to open up at 100%, 500%, fit to window, actual size, etc.. but I want to take those properties and apply it to the pdf portfolio..
    Thanks

    Hi "the Conditioner",
For a FreeForm portfolio you can set the default size of the icons ("cards").
You may want to play around with the options to see what works best for you.
To change the size of the cards, do the following:
    1. Open the portfolio.
    2. Ensure you are in "Layout" mode. You can click the "Layout" button to do so.
    3. Click the Edit button.
    4. On the upper right menu, click Layout to bring up the Layout panel.
    5. At the very bottom of the Layout panel is the "Portfolio Properties".
    6. Change the "Card Size".
Your choices are Small, Medium, Large and Auto-Size.
    7. Save the portfolio. Close the portfolio (don't close Acrobat).
Resize the Acrobat window. Open the portfolio (File > Open or from the recent files list) and see how it looks in different size windows.
    Hope this helps,
    Charlene

  • Link to A folder View in a PDF Portfolio - feature no longer working - please advise

Hi, I am no longer able to link to a Folder View of a PDF Portfolio:
Within a PDF portfolio i need to link from a PDF to a folder view in the Portfolio. I am using Link Action - Go to Page View.
This used to work for me - very important feature that no longer works. Please advise a workaround.
    Steps:
    1. Start a PDF Portfolio that contains files and folders
    2. Open a PDF in the Portfolio
    3. in the opened PDF click Add or Edit Link
    4. Define a link area and set it to Go To A Page Vies
    5. In the past i have been able to target a Folder View in the Portfolio - ie. direct a user not to a file, but instead to a folder view that contains relevant files. I would do this by setting the Target Page View to my desired folder view
    6. This used to work in bringing a user to the folder view i specify. Now it does nothing. If i go back to the PDF and EDIT the Link i see this. File: Parent Document Page 1. This in fact does nothing.
Please advise, am i doing this wrong, it used to work. I have tried several workarounds, with no luck.
    thanks!

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.

You need to figure out what is causing it, and disable that extension/s until they are fixed by their developer.

  • Initial View of a PDF

Is there any way to have more than one panel display in the initial view of a pdf? Say, to show the bookmarks and attachments upon opening the pdf?

For something that is not in the selection menu you will likely have to get by using JavaScript. You might want to go through the JavaScript manual and see if it helps. Keep in mind that many are turning off JavaScript for the same reason as with browsers -- the source of viruses. Might be worth a try. As far as I know there is no default that you could check otherwise.

  • How to set default folder view in Outlook PDF Portfolio?

I'm using Acrobat 9.0 within MS Outlook 2007 to create a portfolio of a folder with subfolders. I would like the initial portfolio view to mimic a typical Outlook view with folder list and reading preview pane. I can create said view in the PDF file by splitting the window vertically and clicking my way to the desired folder level. But I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to save those choices as a default under Portfolio Properties or elsewhere.  Can anyone offer advice?  Thanks.

Can no one help me?  No one at all?

  • How do you set the default view of a PDF portfolio to be the Files mode?

I can set my personal view of portfolios to that, but if another user opens it, it shows the preview mode. It needs to be accessible, and I read Files mode is the only way. We want to load a PDF portfolio onto our internet for anyone to view, but it needs to open in the Files mode. Thanks

    I have done this.
    Have a hidden input field on form  <input name="ZoneExpiry" id="ExpiryDate" />
Then have a function as follows:
    var dat=new Date();
                                                      dat.setDate(dat.getDate() + 365);
                                                      var monthname=new Array("Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun", "Jul","Aug","Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec")
                                                      var pretty = dat.getDate() + "-" + monthname[dat.getMonth()] + "-" + dat.getFullYear();
                                                      jQuery("#ExpiryDate").val(pretty);
    Hope this helps.

  • Initial View set in PDF Document not working.

I have a PDF document w/Initial View in the Document Properties set to Navigation tab: 'Bookmarks panel and Page', and Open to page '1''.  However, when I send this document out, the Initial View settings do not happen (The PDF opens to the page last accessed before the document was sent and the navigation pane does not display).  Help - what am I missing or doing wrong when trying to distribute PDF?
I am using Acrobat X Pro.

It might be the settings in Acrobat that is causing the problem. Edit – Preferences…, under Categories select Documents. Uncheck Restore last view settings when reopening documents.

  • Initial views in an Acrobat Portfolio

Anyone know if I can set a default page view for files when they are opened from a portfolio.
I've got a portfolio file containing 2 folders - portfolio display is sliding row with sidebar - the 2 folders appear fine and the files within each folder appear fine too. Everything works. However one thing's bugging me.
Folder 1 has A5 landscape files and they just about fit to window view when opened - presumably this is because of the landscape format.
Folder 2 has A4 portrait files which won't open in a default fit to window view.
Can I set a default for the portfolio so that any files open in a fit to window view?

    Addition to the above.
Meant to say when the files are then opened in Acrobat Reader.

  • Initial View using PDF Portfolio HELP

Using the new PDF Portfolio Feature. I went to file>portfolio properties and select initial view tab. I changed magnification level to "Actual Size", however when i open the pdf, the initial view is not 100%. Can anyone help me?

I'm not sure what it means to set the Initial View of a Portfolio to a given size.  If I try setting the Initial View for either a Portfolio or a single PDF to 'Actual Size', when I come back to check the setting it always says '100%'.
A PDF Portfolio will open up to a navigator that shows you various attached files.  I'm not sure what Actual size means in terms of a Portfolio, but all of the attached files are represented inside the Portfolio on Cards.  Depending on the current navigator your cards, and the files represented on them, may be various sizes, unless you are using the Freeform or Grid navigators which can have one of 3 different card sizes:  Large, Medium or Small.  With the other 3 navigators, Click-Through, Linear or Wave, the card will adjust to a predetermined maximum size depending on the size of the Acrobat Viewer window.
Now, if it is a PDF that is inside a Portfolio, then when you click on it, it should open that PDF in the Navigator View at Actual Size if that is what you set for the PDF (not the parent Portfolio).  I made a Portfolio with 2 versions of the same PNG file converted to a PDF.  One of them I set the Initial View to Actual Size, and the other one I set to 100%.  Both of these open and view identically inside the Portfolio, as well as when I open them into Acrobat from within the Portfolio.

  • Exporting PDF's - Initial View settings?

    Hey all!
Is there any way from InDesign CS4 to set the Initial View of the PDF when exporting your layout to a PDF? I would like to be able to set the display of the Navigation Tab, the Page layout, Magnification, and a few security settings. Is this even possible? Or do I just have to do this from Acrobat? This might be where developing a script for Acrobat might be in my future
    Much thanks!
    Eric

That must be done in Acrobat.

  • Default initial view that applies to all PDFs opened

Is it possible to set a default PDF initial view that applies to every pdf opened, regardless of the source of the pdf?  Simply put, I want to have the initial view of EVERY pdf I open to be at 100% zoom and no bookmark panel.  Obviously this can be done manually every time I open a pdf, which will then reopen with those settings.  It seems logical that I should be able to set a default initial view that will apply to any pdf I open and not require me to manually set every one. I've tried every option noted in all the forums I have found, using prologue and epilogue, file>properties, edit>preferences, action wizard.  It all boils down to this...I don't want to manually set anything.  I want to open pdf documents in the initial view I prefer.

I have spend a great deal of time researching this exact question.  What I have found is that essentially the answer is "no".  I have come up with a workaround that isn't painless, but it gets the results I want without having to touch every pdf after it is opened.
I set up an Action in Acrobat that has the options I want (page and 100% with no bookmark panel open) and run it against pdfs in a specified directory.  It sets all initial views for any pdf in the directory to what I want.  The action can also be run against any directory or file, but for my purposes I find doing it in a sort of "batch" mode works best.  To set the Action:
         1.     Open Acrobat (with no other pdfs open)
         2.     File >Action Wizard>Create New Action
         3.     On right panel set
Start with:     "Ask When Action is Started"
Save to:          "The Same Folder Selected at Start", check "Overwrite existing Files"
(if you plan to run this action against a directory as I am)
         4.     From left panel
                             Select Document Processing>Set Open Options
         5.     In right panel click on "Options" for the step you just created and set the initial view you desire
         6.     Save
When you want to use the action you can access it from Acrobat opening window or any pdf file you currently have open.
Another alternative is to use Distiller with epilogue.ps or prologue.ps to append this initial view to any document created.  As I don't create many pdfs, it didn't really help with what I wanted to do. .

  • PDF Portfolio, consistent attachment panel size

    Hello,
I have created a PDF portfolio in Pro v9.
In my attachments panel, the attachment icons are lined up in one column.
When I send this portfolio to others (they have v9), the icons in the attachments panel are lined up in 2 columns.
Is there a way to set this so there is a consistent view?
    Thanks,
    Will

You need to have full Flash Player on your system to view content in PDF Portfolios when using Acrobat/Reader 10.x or 11.x.

  • Why is my PDF Portfolio blank?

I just used Adobe Acrobat XI 11.0.10 on Mac OS X 10.10.2 to create a PDF Portfolio. Acrobat let me choose the click-through layout, select files from two folders, and then displayed the PDF Portfolio window.
I would expect the Portfolio window to have a row of thumbnails along the bottom, and a big preview at the top.
What I saw instead is that the Portfolio window is blank.  I don't see any of my files there.
Clicking the Layout and Files tabs have no effect, the portfolio is blank either way.
When I try to re-add the files to the portfolio, I get an alert saying that 'the portfolio already contains a file with the name "myfile.pdf". Would you like to replace the file "myfile.pdf"?' So it seems that at some level the files are in the portfolio, but they aren't visible.
The portfolio size is 8MB, which is consistent with the size of the files I have included in there.
I don't see any troubleshooting tips about Portfolio blankness. The forum didn't suggest any relevant topics for me to read first.
Where is Acrobat going wrong?  How can I make it handle this portfolio properly?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Initial View for PDF Package

I've created a PDF Package. I'd want to make sure that the documents in the package display on the left-hand side of the document pane when someone opens the PDF Package. There doesn't seem to be any option for that under File > Properties > Initial View. How can I make sure that the links to the individual files that make up the Package are showing when someone opens the Package?

Default documents in PDF Portfolios - see my old blog.
Showing the bookmarks panel (by changing the Document Properties) should work for a standalone file, but it won't change what's shown on the previews in a Portfolio.
