Initscripts 2011.10.2-1 / rc.sysinit Issues on Bootup

Since upgrading initscripts from version 2011.07.3-1 to 2011.10.2-1, the following messages appear during the bootup process:
/etc/rc.sysinit: line 35: minilogd: command not found
/usr is not mounted. This is not supported.
Attached is the following screen capture from bootup:

Of course, did you?
Raynman wrote: Do you have a concrete question?
No, this is only an observation which might prove useful for others to see.

Just upgraded to OSX 10.9 mavericks on macbook pro mid 2011 version. Having a big issue here that whenever my mac comes back from sleep, i.e after I open the lid, the screen flickers and there is an error of Finder not opening properly. Any fix to this?

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

    Go to Geekbench
    http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
and check out the relative values for the system you're currently using versus the one you're going to buy. My guess is a fullly spec'd MBP Retina will do the job, but you're undoubtedly better qualified than anyone on here to tell what kind of a machine you need.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues -Feedback?

Anybody have any feedback from the MacBook Pro 2011 Repair Extension Program for Video Issues?
I had my early 2011 15 inch 8,2 repaired (free) under the extension program. The machine now appears to run well - but much hotter than before. The case is significantly hotter - especially at the GPU corner and the fans are constantly on moderate to high (not full). Anybody else experiencing similar changes?

    Run an Apple Hardware Test;
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note an error free AHT is not definitive.
    install iStat menus:

Set Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
When the MBP gets hot, post images of both for inspection.

  • Initscripts 2011.02.1-1

    Hi all,
I can't seem to set the locale (pt-PT) in all virtual consoles with the latest iniscripts version.
Read the discussion about the DAEMON_LOCALE variable  but not sure how it works. Chose the default "no" under /etc/rc.conf
I had to fallback to iniscripts 2010.07-2 in order to get things running properly.
    Any tips/ideas on this?

    Hi all,
Ok, had the opportunity to test, by installing initscripts 2011.02.1-1. Doesn't work.
    Below, my rc.conf:

Thanks for the reply, but I did a silly thing - or didn't do due diligence:
After updating my AppleTV its setting for Airplay was set to "off".  I just reset it to "on" and all is well in my Airplay-world.
However, thanks to you, I now know how to getting to the Airplay settings - didn't know that before.

  • 2011 Macbook pro continues to have issues what should I do?

In 2011 I purchased an early 2011 2.2 i7 Macbook Pro new. Not long after I bought it I began to have graphics issues with the computer. The computer was sent into Apple and a logicboard replacement was done. I continued to have intermediate issues with the computer after I received it back. These issues became worse over time, eventually to the point of the computer not booting up. In addition to serious graphics issues and random shutdowns.  This eventually led me to take my macbook on April 12th 2013 back Apple.
A repair was done in which the logicboard was replaced again. I received my Mac back on April 19th. Today April 22 my Mac shutdown again. Also some of the graphics issues from much earlier have come back. Some scrambled graphics and some tearing in apps appear on the screen. The computer shut down on me twice on two seperate occassions today. For no reason it just shut off. It use to do this before the logicboard replacement. I went ahead and submitted an error report to Apple after reboot.
I am a design professional and am associated with Appsterdam. The repair on my mac took a week and I feel far behind in my work. However just at the time that I am trying to catch up on my work. This Macbook pro has begun to go out on me again. I am so upset that I bought a unit from a bad batch or something. They have already replaced the logicboard twice as a result of these shutdowns and graphics issues.
I don't know what to do. Any information about what my next step should be would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I shall contact the Apple store again soon. My Macbook has had it's logicboard replaced two times now as a result of graphics issues. I have had the computer back now for about two weeks but it's performance continues to deteriorate. After the 2nd logicboard replacement. Some of my apps look like this...   =(

  • Macbook Pro 2011 won't turn on (RAM issue?)

(Macbook pro 2011) I had water damage so I sent in to apple for a complete makeover and they pretty much replaced everything. The laptop seemed to be working fine but the issue is that when I put my laptop to sleep / turn off it won't turn back on. I haven't had the time to take my laptop back to the apple store due to projects / travelling. I've found that there is one quick fix, manually resetting the ram by taking the RAM chips out for a second then re-inserting them. The other way is to hold Command+Option+P+R 3 times before reboot and that'll work temporarily for a day maybe. I plan on taking it to the apple store in a day or so if the problem doesn't resolve itself. Do you guys have any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Windows 7 install on late 2011 MacBook Pro without bootcamp (performance issues)

Hey guys I'm hoping I can get this issue resolved. I have purchased a late 2011 MacBook Pro (radeon 6750m 1gig). I installed a fresh copy of windows 7 without bootcamp. Having real issues with game performance like world of Warcraft. I have done this with an older unibody Mac and it ran great (for any non believer)... But now this time around I'm getting horrible fps in game. I'm thinking it may be driver related it buy I am having trouble finding the right drivers to see if that's then issue. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Shotgun00 wrote:
That is completely false. There is no real need to leave OS X on the Mac if you don't want to, especially with Win 7 or 8. That may of been true with Windows XP but not anymore.
The problem with leaving OS X installed is then you are really limited with what you can do with the drive. You can only have one Windows partition and if you fool with it at all Windows will no longer boot. you can't even change the OS X partition otherwise Windows would boot
Windows 7 will install all by itself. No need for any Boot loaders or Hack Boot system. Pop the Win 7 DVD in the DVD drive and restart. Windows will be installed all by itself. But you do need the Apple support files.
In the end if you are going to run Windows on a computer by itself then you really should not buy a Mac. The hardware is the same and as to the OPs perceived better built quality I personally do not see it. And if you actually read some of the posts on this and other Mac forums you will see that perceived build quality is just a bunch of hype, in my opinion.
To the OP. You aren't missing anything.
If you had carefully read what I wrote, I merely said that doing the install on a blank drive wasn't a good idea. That's because it can create issues the OP is having. A Mac's hardware is no different than a comparable Windows machine, but the EFI/BIOS/Firmware is. Macs are in something of a no-man's land in this regard, as they have neither an old-school BIOS or modern UEFI of recent Windows-based notebooks. I'm willing to bet that the performance problems the OP is having relates to the fact that a straight EFI install on a modern MBP "enables" (for lack of a better word) automatic graphic switching. The capability manifests, but the functionality is not there. Enterprising individuals have been trying to get graphic switching in Windows to work as it does on the OS X side ever since MacBooks debuted with this abliity but with zero success.
Using Boot Camp bypasses this, as the discreet GPU is enabled full-time in Windows. Thus, you will realize proper performance.
As far as perceived build quality, Apple machines are at the high end of the consumer notebook spectrum. They're certainly better than most of the other machines you can pick up at your local Best Buy, but they fall short of business-class machines such as the Dell Latitude/Precision, HP ProBook/EliteBook, and Lenovo ThinkPad.

  • Adobe CS5, Chrome and Office 2011 Crashing in Lion, plus video issues

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion (in place rather than wiping disk clean).
Adobe InDesign CS5 will start and bring up the main dialog box and crash everytime within a few seconds. Photoshop was also crashing, but it isn't crashing under a new user account. InDesign still is.
I checked the permissions on the library folders, reset the prefs files. It will start up and be useful in safe mode, so I'm looking to isolate the issue.
Microsoft Word (2011) is crashing, but Excel works.
Chrome crashes everytime. Firefox is slow.
    System prefs has crashed once.
    Text Edit crashes when printing.
Flash video is not playing on anything.
    Any thoughts on cause?

I found my solution. Wipe it all out and start fresh!
You have to create a startup drive for Lion to do a clean install. Here's a way:
    http://www.trickyways.com/2011/07/how-to-make-mac-os-x-lion-10-7-bootable-usb-fl ash-drive/
If you can't locate your Lion installer, open your App Store and Option-click the purchases tab. This will allow you to redownload the installer.
Back up your stuff (or you'll lose your files).
Startup from your new Lion Install disk (restart and hold the option key.)
Use disk utility to wipe out your hard drive (if you've backed it up, of course)
    Reinstall Lion.
Reinstall your applications and have fun rebuilding your life!
All of my issues have gone away and I am once again a happy Apple customer. CS5 works, Office works, Flash video works - everything works!

  • MacBook Pro 2011 / HDD replace with SSD - power issue

I recently replaced on a MBP 2011 2.5 core5 the 500 MB HDD with a Samsung 850Pro SSD. All went well with regards to cloning throught the apple disk utility.
But i noticed the MBP seems to "burn" more power, meaning the battery life is reduced. It is not clear to me why replace the HDD by the SSD means a shorter battery life. Is there a compability issue with the  http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage/MZ-7KE1T0BW ?
    Any suggestions ?

Sorry, but you typed, "My 2014 model macbook pro 's logic board got damaged."
Apple does not accept trade-ins. You can try selling it on eBay or Craigslist or sell it for cash to companies like Gazelle.com. Then buy a newer model with the proceeds plus added cash, if required.

  • Outlook 2011 and mountain lion calendar sync issues... resolved (kinda)

Okay... I never really post to these boards, but I'm fairly ticked off that OS X keeps tampering with MS Office and it's syncing with iTunes and, ultimately, my iPhone.  Apple support tried to push me onto the iCloud, but I'm not going to use that crappy feature. After many hours of trying to fix the calendar sync issue with MS Office 2011, I found a workaround:
    1.  Get the apple reminders set up to recognize the OS X Calendar program.
    2.  Confirm that your Outlook calendar data is recognized in the OS X Calendar program (it was always there for me)
    3.  Install MS Office 2008 (Entourage) --- You don't have to use it, but the older program still syncs with Mountain Lion.
    4.  Sync your iphone with itunes and ensure that your Calendars are erased (uncheck the Calendar sync box).
    5.  Click on the "Replace Information on this iPhone) for Calendars.
    6.  Re-sync the iPhone with iTunes.
    7.  The data should go up with no problem.
IF you are still having problems...
    1.  go to OS X "Calendar" and Add a new calendar called "Home".
    2.  move the Outlook data to the Home calendar (just drag and drop).
    3.  Repeat steps 4-7 above.
Since I've done these changes, everything directly syncs.
Hope this helps, and don't lose faith.  MS will come up with some type of patch.

Outlook 2011 is not compatible with iCloud, it won't work and your 'workaround' may affect iCloud clients on the same account.
    Don't use 2011.

  • MBP 2011 13" Calculator behaving erratically + graphics issues

    Hi all,
My setup is early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" (8,1) Intel Core i5 2.3Ghz, Intel HD Graphics 3000, aftermarket SSD/HD hybrid drive + 8GB RAM.
I use the latest full size Apple Wired keyboard with my MacBook and when using the Calculator app, whenever I press either 4, 5, or 6 on the keyboard number pad, it causes whatever operation has already been typed in to clear. Other numbers are fine. Note that this does not happen when using the number buttons above the letters on the keyboard, or when using the mouse to click on the numbers.
I've also been having intermittent problems with the display on the MacBook showing strange horizontal lines and other graphic distortions and needing to be force-restarted to resolve, whilst other times the display won't turn back on from sleep despite having enough charge. I know there has been a lot of talk about logic board and graphics card problems of 2011 MacBook Pros and wonder if anyone else is having these same issues. I don't believe 36 months is a fair lifespan for a $1500+ machine.
Could the calculator issue be a sign that the laptop is failing? If anyone has a similar experience (or fix) I'd love to hear.
    Thanks in advance

After some further testing I can add to the above keyboard number pad issue:
    1. Problem exists in both Mavericks and my Yosemite beta installation (both on the same HD, different partitions)
    2. Problem also exists in any Mac OS X app text input fields, including Safari and Preview (i.e. if I type a word followed by the number 4, 5, or 6, the text input field will clear)
    3. Problem does NOT exist in text editing apps such as Pages, Notepad, etc.
    3. OS X makes the default error sound continuously when the keyboard is initially plugged in, but after unplug and replug the error sound stops.
