This injunction was great for us java developers.
Microsoft wants us to pay (very much) for its developing
applications.
I think that sun should try to increase the efficiency of the
Java VM, maybe by fully compiling the bytecode into each supporting
OS.
I think We should be more active on fighting Microsoft...And I think We
should ask Sun to provide us a Java-to-native-code compiler. Java would become even more atractive.

OS.I believe Sun is always trying to increase the effiecency of the JVM. And does so with every new realease. If were an easy thing to do i'm sure they would already have it running as fast as C++ programs.
What do you mean by fully compiling the bytecode? The JIT does compile your bytecode, at runtime, to do so before would take away system independance.

Java would become even more atractive.I don't think Sun should be fighting MS, I think they should be working to get Java integration into the OS therefore eliminating the need to install the JRE before being able to run a java app. I do agree that an option in javac to compile down to a binary exe would be a welcomed feature but if we had Java integration into the Windows OS it would only be necessary for speed and not for ease of use. But I think even the speed factor would be resolved some by running a JVM developed by Sun with some help from MS. Since they wrote windows i'm sure they could offer some insight to making a more effiecent JVM to run for Windows. Everyone is always talking about bringing down Microsoft,without Microsoft there would just be another big company running things...Sun maybe. The fall of one evil empire will only bring about the rise of another. You could of course preach that the freesource movment will come forth, but how can you as a programmer hope that freeware takes over. How do you expect we make a living if we can't sell our programs? You don't see a mechanic in my driveway fixing my car just because he knows how to and enjoys it.

I find this problem posted all over the internet -- however, I have found few answers and no solutions that work.
Java will not run in IE9
In the last three days I have installed Java 7.5 at least five times (after total uninstalls).
I have Windows 7 Home premium with all updates installed. Anti-virus programs are installed.
Even the java website http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp cannot detect the Java program in IE9. It displays the following message: “No working Java was detected
on your system. Install Java by clicking the button below.”
I know you don’t want to hear about other browsers, however, this is part of the diagnoses – Java works fine in Chrome. (Obviously, there are some programs that can only be accessed in IE.)
I have tried turning off the firewall, anti-virus AVG, active x filtering, and every other program. I have cleared the browsing history, cookies, etc. 50 times = nothing works.
I experienced that Java did work once and only once in IE9 after each of two new reinstallations of Java 7.5.
Process Explorer shows that Java is running, I’ve included a screen- shot (hope it shows up)
All knowledgeable answers are appreciated.

Have you tried the compatibility mode in Internet Explorer 9? Or does this issue occur to previous Internet Explorer versions?

You could try to deselect the “Automatically Detect Settings” to check how it works.
And enable the scripting of Java applets settings:
1. Click "Tools" --> "Internet Options"
2. Next, select the Security Tab, and select the "Custom Level" button
3. Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets"
4. Make sure the "Enable" radio button is checked.
5. Click OK to save your preference.
Or you could try to change the settings in group editor:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Page\Internet Zone\Java Permissions
Meanwhile, I suggest you could
reset Internet Explorer settings to see the results.

Hi, I'm on the NI cloud team, and thought I'd chime in here even though the thread's old. We've been doing work with both the Amazon and Azure clouds.
We have LabVIEW working on Amazon just fine, in fact the LabVIEW FPGA Compile Cloud that's in beta right now is hosted on Amazon EC2.
We've been working with Microsoft Azure as well. I haven't yet tried to deploy LabVIEW on it, it should be possible to try as of the Azure 1.3 release by using a startup task although those may have an eventual timeout (LV installs take a while). Azure role instances are not meant to be long running and the disk on them is completely ephemeral. Probably using a VM role would be better. This isn't guaranteed to work because various low level drive stuff may run afoul of the limitations (Azure isn't *quite* stock Win2008R2, it does have limitations). The wrinkle will probably be licensing.We had to bypass our own usual licensing scheme to work on the dynamic cloud for Amazon.
This is a good candidate for the idea exchange, perhaps I'll add on there too.

Microsoft Windows 8.1 officially supports all currently supported Microsoft Office versions including Office 2013 / 2010 / 2007 / 2003 , and may be even earlier versions unofficially. I use Microsoft Office Professional Plus on my Windows 8.1 and it runs fine with no issues. Could you try what has already been suggested by others including Big_Dave and reinstall Microsoft Office with complete reboot/restart between uninstall/new installation <restart, not shut down and start over>. If this doesn't work, please post again if installation went fine, what exactly is the error code (if any), what is the problem exactly, any screenshots ?

Java web start running on windows NT4 work station

I have installed java web start on a windows NT4 work station (service pack 6) with a directx v5. I successfuly launch the sun applications such as swing set 2, but I have some troubles concerning our software which used another look and feel than the default one. A system error is raised saying that the library ddraw.dll could not be loaded.
I have unistalled and re-installed directx v5 but the error is still raised.
Does any one can help me to solve this problem ?.

Because of our new Network-Technology (Terminal-Server) we have to discuss serveral possibilities.
I've read about JSP and ASP.NET, and I want to know if JSP or any kind of JAVA Program will run on a Terminal-Server.
Are there any special aspects I have to know when running JSP on a terminal server from Microsoft? Is it better to program applications in JAVA or in JSP? ...

Calling an unix command from a java program which runs on windows

I want to call an unix command on server(II) from java application which is on server(I)
I am using Samba Server in order to share files between Windows Server and Unix Server
Can I use samba in order to call command
or is there any way to open an telnet session within java application

ITunes 10 will not run on Windows 7, 64 bit

I have upgraded to itunes 10 and now it will not run. In task manager the process is running but no programme. i uninstalled all itunes, quick step, bonjour and apple folders. Then tried a clean instal of itunes 10. Still didn't work. Uninstalled again and reloaded v 9.2 and it works. Tried disabling bonjour and ran the instal of 10 again and it still doesn't work. This is becoming a major pain as I am stuck on v9.2.

Try installing the version 10 again so we can check on a few other characteristics of the problem, seeoh.
(1) Does your QuickTime Player launch, or do you get an error message of some kind when you try to launch that?
(2) Try (by way of experiment) disabling the BonJour Service.
In your Start Menu, right-click Computer and select "Manage".
Expand "Services & Applications".
Open "Services". (Maximise the window to better see what's going on.)
Right-click the BonJour Service and select "Properties". In the "General" tab, set Start-up type to "Disabled".
Restart the PC, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch this time?

BB Desktop Software 6.1 will not run on Windows 7 64-Bit

I have read in these forums and am still lost. I know my answer should be in hre somewhere, but if it is I am unable to understand it, so be patient as I may be reasking an already answered question.
I try to be a good lil girl and follow forum rules, but am lost here.
I bought a new laptop, a Dell 17R It runs Win 7 I think. Lots of ROM/RAM. I dowloaded the desktop program from bb dot com and cannot get it to work. First it asked me to trouble shoot, and reconfigured the DT prog for Win XP.
It then acknowledged my Torch and dld my photos. Then it decided I didn't have space and undid whatever it did.
NOW I cannot get the program, once it opens to recognise my phone at all! ACK!!
I need someone who understands this gobbltygook to explain to me what to do. I need to unload my photos, as I use my phone to take pix more than I would have thought.
I am a photog, and it's better than my first digital this Torch 9800 is, and video quality, OMG, but the vids are too big to upload from the phone..........(IDK why cuz it did at Christmas?)
Anyway, please help me here, as I can use a computer, e-mail, Facebook, Picassa, other than that, IDK too much about them. (It took my YEARS to spring for this laptop)

Lightroon CC upgrade will not run on windows 8.1

Ran Adobe Creative Cloud updates today, all updates installed and are working OK except for Lightroom, it will not run when opened, no error messages appear and windows trouble shooter reports it as lightroom is incompatible. I have done a complete manual uninstall, reinstalled and the problem still exists. Does anyone have the same problem or a possible fix

After installing lightroom CC you must sign out and oce again sign in from the creative cloud.
Do this by:
Preferences>Account>Log out from the creative Cloud.
Let me know if it worked.

PSE 5 will not run in Windows 7?

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit - I reinstalled PSE 5 but now it will not run.
I get the following errors:
- Could not load the FastCore Routines module because the file could not be found.
- Could not load the MMXCore Routines module because the file could not be found.
- Could not load the Multiprocessor Support module because the file could not be found.
- Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the file could not be found.
- The action you have requested could not be completed because the application is not responding. It may still be loading or waiting for a response from you.
I searched for the errors on the forums and found the common responses that the 5.0.2 update needed to be installed. I installed the update but it hasn't fixed the problem.
I also saw that many people had managed to run it using compatibility mode - I have tried running it in Windows Vista/SP1/SP2, Windows XP etc but nothing likes it.
Can anybody please help? I had absolutely no problems with this software before and I'm half tempted to buy PSE 10 (which I can't afford to do) just to save me the hassle.

Since you've uninstalled and re-installed PSE5, we have to assume that those files are in the correct location. If someone here has PSE5 installed, it would be nice if they can confirm that.
The next thing to try is disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for the editor:
Use Start...Control Panel...System.
On the left, select "System Protection".
Select the "Advanced" tab.
Click the "Settings" button in the "Performance" section.
Click on the "Data Execution Prevention" tab.
Use the bottom radio button ("Turn on DEP...except those I select").
Click the "Add" button, then browse to the
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
file.
Make sure that the editor's file has a check in its box, and do "OK" to back out of all the dialog boxes.
Reboot.

ColdFusion 5 - will it run under Windows 2003 Enterprise Server R2?

I currently have ColdFusion 5 running on Windows 2000 and
need to upgrade the os
to 2003 Enterprise R2. I don't know, but I'm guessing, it
will easier to continue using 5
than to upgrade to 7 or 8.

It could be a couple things;
CTC only runs (and / or only runs well) on the specified version of JRE. It doesn't like anything older, it doesn't like anything newer ... the suggested version (1.3.something last time I looked - I don't remember off the top of my head).
CTC takes forever to initialize (in some cases on our Lab stuff, I'm talking minutes ... up to 5-7 MINUTES before anything comes up).
Start it and go have lunch, if it's not up when you get back, downrev your JRE and try again (then go home for the night, and see if it's up in the morning).
If it's still not up, then try it on Windows 2000 server (or a VMware / VirtualPC session on S2003).
If you're running it through something like a Citrix server, take a vacation for a few days ....
This is not one of Cisco's finest software endeavours.

I couple of years ago I bought Adobe CS2, Photoshop, Illustrator & In-Design. My computer is a Dell PC 2004 and things are beginning to bog down and trouble. So if I get Windows 7 will CS2 run on it? I DO NOT want to spend more money upgrading (didn't like CS3 and they unnessary changes Adobe made to it).

Firefox will not run on Windows 8.1

I have 3 pcs running 8.1 update 1. all run the same AV software ( Emsisoft). All are identical. However one machine will not run FF27-29. Windows tells me that " this app can't run on your PC". I have uninstalled and reinstalled using the stub and also by downloading a complete installer. Neither have helped.
Any thoughts?
