Ink annotations get lost during word 2007 - pdf conversion

Hi,
I am trying to convert a word 2007 document into a .pdf using Acrobat Professional 9. The problem is, the ink annotations get lost in the process. A colleague does not have the same problem. I an very sure that I have never changed any preferences.
Thanks for your help, Bruce

You did not give all of the information. The current version of AA9 is 9.4.7. If you have 9.0, you should do the updates until you get to 9.4.7. Also, I assume you are not using a 64-bit machine, an appropriate comment at this time.
That being said, I did run your DOCX file in WORD 2007 and AA 9.4.7 on a 32-bit Win7 system. With PDF Maker, I got the same result as you. With a print to the Adobe PDF printer, I did get the markup that you wanted. If bookmarks and tags are not of concern to you, then using the printer might be the best route for now. There appears to be a bug in PDF Maker that has not been noted before and you have brought to the front. I am not sure how the annotations are done, but apparently PDF Maker did not catch them.

• Advange of using Adobe Acrobat over Microsoft word 2007 PDF add -in

Hi,
I would like to know what is the advantage of using Adobe Acrobat 9 standard or professional over Microsoft Word 2007 PDF addin. Microsoft will ship the PDF convertor with SP2 later this month, in that case what should be the use of using adobe acrobat to convert a document to PDF and not use microsoft word built in features.
This is just a doubt which arouse and thought if I could ask here, thought to control some adobe acrobat licenses being used in our environment.

I have found that some of the links and other items just to not work well with the add-in from MS. However, with OFFICE 2007, it appears that MS has put some hooks in the system to screw up Acrobat. Typical pages that are produced with Acrobat get cut into sections (a graphic will be chopped into multiple graphics and pasted together). I say this is OFFICE only from the perspective that we have tried it with OFFICE 2007 and both AA7 and AA8 and gotten the same result. When we used the same file in OFFICE 2003 with AA7, the PDF was fine. So when you complain about the PDFs created by OFFICE 2007 and Acrobat, you may be seeing something that is a result of OFFICE, not Acrobat. Generally they still look good, it is only in some detail where you will see problems.
A major advantage we found with Acrobat is that it did not have issues with messing up the links that the MS add-in had. You can try some of this yourself, but that is a summary of our conclusions. Bill

• Word to PDF Conversion = Different Color on Paper

Hello All,
I created a bunch of forms in Word 2010. Converted them into PDF and made them fillable. On screen Word doc and PDF doc colors look the same, but when I print PDF documents their blue turns intor dark purple. Any suggestions on how to keep colors consistent with the Word doc? I read about software and screen collibration, but I believe that there must be a simplier way to synchronize colors. Again, on screen colors looks the same.... Thank you very much.

Hi,
Thanks for the help.
Your first link use Office Web Apps to generate a PDF and launch printing action, it's not my use case.
I wan't generate a PDF near the word document in a document library.
Your second link is interesting, allow IntranetCall and permission on application service Word Automation but no change.
I have always :
"The file could not be converted due to an intermittent error in the system. Please resubmit this file for conversion. If the file fails again with this error message, contact your system administrator" error code 10.

• Acrobat 8.1.6 and Word 2007 - PDF printing problem

I have a weird problem with printing a word 2007 document to the Adobe PDF printer (distiller). I hope someone can help with this.
My two-page Word document has a background color, text, text boxes and two imported images (both under 500kb). Now, the problem is two-fold:
If the 'print background color' option is disabled (unchecked), the PDF looks okay, but the background color vanishes as does text within text boxes (the text boxes themselves appear fine).
If the 'print background color' option is enabled, the PDF shows only the background color, but no text!
In either case, the PDF generation takes an unusually long time.
I tried to follow the advices given in other threads, and looked for the presence of Acrotray.exe (it was present during the process). I also tried printing the document to a file (.prn), renaming the extension to .ps, and double-clicking it to send the job to distiller - every time with the same result.
I must mention that if I use Word 2007's own 'Save to PDF' feature, it generates a clean PDF without any problem. It is only the Acrobat Distiller that is giving me endless grief. Can someone knowledgeable please help me with this issue?

I have an update. This is even weirder. It turns out that after I generate the PDF and only the background color shows up, I can use the Touch Up Object tool to select the entire page (by clicking anywhere in the colored area), and press 'delete'. If I do this, parts of the background color gets deleted, revealing the text underneath - including the background color!!!!! And doing this repeatedly, I can remove this strange 'overshadow' and find everything (image, text, text box) intact underneath. I can do the same to the text box, and eventually, the missing text appears there.
I, of course, have to do this for every single page!
In summary, it is almost as if my text and images are being covered by a sheet with the same color as the background, which I am then removing part by part - with each stroke of the delete key - much like opening a . Strangely, this happens for each page except the last page (which prints fine - with images and texts etc.)
Does anyone have a clue about this?
Update: I hadn't seen the replies from Bill and Lori when I posted this. Thank you both for replying! I do think that the problem is with transparency, given what I found out just now (written here). However, I have tried different PDF settings, standard and high quality (this is the one I normally use), and yet I have had the same issue!

• Word 2007 Arabic conversion to PDF - problems - help?

I have a Word 2007 document with Arial font that contains English and Arabic (Saudi Arabia) languages. When I "Create PDF" from the Acrobat toolbar in Word, the PDF that results is mostly white space because only the English text is converted. All of the Arabic text is missing. I haven't experienced this in the past, but I'm not sure if that's due to using an older version of Word or an older version of Acrobat, or perhaps both. I'm currently using Acrobat 9 Pro. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You can save any Office file as a .pdf. No additional software needed.
Ceate the document then start the print process (command + P). The bottom of the print dialog box gives you a button that gives a drop-down with the optionto save the document as PDF.

Converting Word (table) to pdf - lines screwed up - googled as far back as 2004.
BUG STILL exists. HELP/FIX PLEASE?
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/missing-table-lines-conversion-pdf-t878406.html
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/305508
Trying to convert any word doc with tables (& shading) to PDF
- basic table, black borders throughout
- shaded headings, black outline border
- shaded subheadings, black outline border
However when convert to PDF:
- 'displays' NO top cell border for some/all shaded rows
- shows diff thickness lines
- each conversion, diff lines missing/incorrectly sized
- however converted pdf prints perfectly fine
Adobe know about the bug, per PRMW's (Paul's) post on 2009-07-15 15:44:34, however only offered a painful time consuming workaround using non-freeware Adobe Pro:
http://acrobatusers.com/forum/pdf-creation/word-pdf-table-lines-missing-or-faded#comment-7 8139
- "It is not feasable to edit 200+ tables in the PDF every time the PDF is generated, as we maintain the original in word.
- "This complete issue seems to have been passed off by Adobe as no problem and that there is a work around. I consider this an unsatisfactory response from a major product supplier.
Microsoft TechNet & NitroPdf said it's an Adobe issue & to contact Adobe to fix the bug.
Tried, but proble exists:
* Word 2010 > File > Save & Send > Create PDF/XPS Document

* www.wordtopdf.com > email: Sorry, an unexpected conversion failure occurred when converting your file.
Software:
* Word 2010 - tried with .docx & .doc (97 to 2003)
* Adobe Reader 8.2.6 (freeware), then upgraded to Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 (freeware)
* GhostScript 9.01 w32 (freeware)

* doPDF 7.2.361 (freeware)

Seems to display better at 300%, but lines still not right (even at 2400%), but who views pdf's at this zoom?

• Messages are getting lost during server restart

Hi,
we have a clustered environment.
soa_server1, soa_server2, soa_server3 and osb_server1, osb_server2, osb_server3
Queues are configured on each server.
Overall process flow is (JMS Queue (configrued in soa_server1) --> BPEL --> mediator -->JMS (configrued in osb_server1) --> proxyService --> Target System.
When there is a need to bounce the server (start / stop) ; and to make sure messages are not lost during server bounce.
we are following the below procedure for server start
1) pause soa_server1 queues then bounce soa_server1
2) pause soa_server2 queues then bounce soa_server2
3) pause soa_server3 queues then bounce soa_server3
We are observing there is a message lost after server bounce...
thanks in advance
anvv sharma

Are you using XA connection factory? If no then this may cause message loss. It is also considered a best practice to configure error queue for JMS queues to avoid message loss (as a precautionary measure).
How did you find that messages are getting lost?

• Word 2007 PDF! Bug im Reader 9.3.2?

Hallo,
Jedes andere PDF funktioniert dabei ohne Probleme.
"Fatal Error: Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server" bekommen.

• Word to PDF conversion does not retain left margin (for thesis submission to a university)

Hi everyone,
I've searched through the more recent margin issues posts and haven't found anything that exactly matches my problem. I'm currently trying to convert my thesis from Word to a PDF (I'm using Word 2003 in Windows XP and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional) as required by my university and the left side margin is changed from 1.5 inches to 1.25 inches during the conversion process. Since this is for submission to a university, the margin has to be exactly 1.5 inches. I've already tried to change the paper and page layout settings in case was an issue related to scaling (if only at this point) and I've reconverted the file in case it was a fluke (obviously it wasn't since I found my way here). I also tried to just shift the margin in Word over an additional 0.25 inches to see if that would put it at 1.5 instead of 1.25 in Acrobat, but somehow it was still at 1.25. It doesn't seem to matter what the margin is set at in Word, it ends up at 1.25 in Acrobat.
I would very much appreciate any input- it would be nice if now that I've finished all the work on my thesis I could actually get it submitted properly so that I can get my diploma!

What method are you using to generate your PDF from Word? What version of Word are you using? (edit: sorry, I see now you mentioned Word 2003)
Are you using the Word's PDF convert-to icon or are you using Print>Adobe PDF ?

• Word to Pdf conversion - Margin diffeence

Hi,
I am in the process of converting some word documents to pdf, but the top margin is not consistent b/w word and pdf i,e pdf have greater margin than the base word document. could any one help me in getting the pdf with the same margin as of wrod document after converting.
I'm using Acrobat Disteller 7.0

I am not sure why you are talking about using Acrobat Distiller 7. But let me get back to the issue.
1. Select the Adobe PDF printer in the print menu. Then go back and check your document (WORD will reflow a document to best fit).
2. Check the paper size of the WORD document versus the PDF document. I suspect that you did not select the proper paper in the Adobe PDF printer properties. Maybe you are trying to use A4 and the paper in the printer is Letter.
3. You should either print to the Adobe PDF printer or use PDF Maker (the Adobe icon in WORD) to create the PDF. Do not print to file, just print to the printer and the conversion process should automatically be started.

• Weird problems of figures with word to pdf conversion

Platform: Windows Vista
Word 2007
Acrobat 9
Q: I have some wmf format vector figures inserted into word file. When I convert the word file into pdf format using the built-in pdfmaker button in the word menu, the vector graphics all become bitmap type. If I use print to pdf commond, the graphics are still vector format. Because I want to retain the Heading markers and other bookmarkers in the converted pdf file, I prefer using the pdfmaker for the conversion.
Does anyone know how to fix it? it used to work in my old computer with acrobat 8 and word 2003. Not sure whether it is a compatability issue.

You may want to be open to issues of WORD 2007, particularly if using a docx format. It may not be the issue you are having, but I have found problems with WORD itself for graphics. In some cases, it will take a nice graphic and split it into parts when creating a PDF. I am not sure what all the issues are, but WORD 2007 seems to be part of the problem, not just Acrobat. In fact, I have seen WORD take a vector graphic and change the fonts to a graphic, rather then leave them as a font in such a graphic - that was with a docx file. I am not saying WORD is the problem, but be open to alternate explanations of what is going on.

• Word to PDF conversion gets stuck at 10%. Acrobat 8 Professional.

I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional on Windows 7. I cannot convert Word Docs (office 2003 Professional) to PDFs. The conversion gets stuck at 10%.
What should I do?

Are you saving your MS Word doc as a PDF from within Word?
Try doing that, also some versions of Word had a PDF Maker button.
Once you have the Word file saved as a PDF, you should be able to open it in Acrobat 8.

• Visio 2010 EMFs wrong gradients in Word 2007 PDF

Hello everyone,
I'm using Visio 2010 to cerate some graphics and export them as EMFs. These EMFs are then imported to a Word-Document (as vector graphics - i checked that) and then exported to PDF. When opening the resulting PDF in Adobe Reader 10.1.4 the gradients of the Visio created graphics are all disorted. No gradient is displayed correctly.
Opening the same PDF in an alternative PDF reader, everything is fine. Therefore I'm not sure if this is a problem on adobes side or microsofts.
I created a zip file containing all files to test this problem: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46574377/TestAdobe.zip Maybe someone can have a look and point me to the right direction to workaround this problem?!
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your help! I thought it might be a problem with Adobe Reader not displaying the gradients correctly. I just checked using the Visio built-in export and the resulting file displays correctly in adobe reader - therefore it looks like something is messed up with the word built-in pdf-export. Will look into this... Thanks!

• Events getting lost during bubble

I have spent one too many hours fooling around with this.
This is just a simple test, but I have an mxml component named
Test.mxml that is dispatching an event. I also have a
FrontController.as that is listening for events. When an event is
dispatched in Test, FrontController is not responding to it. When
the code is placed into one file it works dandy, so i am not sure
where the problem lies. I am invoking FrontController at the
Application. Thanks for helping me out on this. Its driving me mad.
Here are my files:
Main.mxml
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns="*" xmlns:control="controller.* xmlns:nav="views.nav.*">
<!-- Controller: Controls all application events -->
<control:FrontController/>
<nav:navigation top="8" left="9" right="90"
bottom="609"/>
</mx:Application>
FrontController.as
package controller
import mx.core.Application;
import flash.events.Event;
public class FrontController
// Get a reference to the Application object here
private var app:Main = Application.application as Main;
public function FrontController(){
app.addEventListener("SomeEvent", someHandler);
private function someHandler(e:Event):void{
trace("Hello my name is Borat");
Test.mxml
<mx:TitleWindow xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns="*"
creationComplete="initComp()"
showCloseButton="true">
<mx:Metadata>
[Event(name="SomeEvent", type="flash.events.Event")]
</mx:Metadata>
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.EventDispatcher;
private function initComp():void{
var eventObj:Event = new Event("SomeEvent");
dispatchEvent(eventObj);
]]>
</mx:Script>
</mx:TitleWindow>

But... Here I can see that your listening for events wich are
dispatched by the Application not your Test.mxml component. So, if
the App dispatches an Event your front controller will be able to
catch it, but if another component (like you Test.mxml) dispatches
an event your front controller will not be able to catch it.
Also I can see that your not making reference to your
Test.mxml component in your application.
