Ink cartridge doesn't fit!

This is the first time I'm replacing ink for my Photosmart Premium printer model #C410a.  Went to Staples and got 2 different cartridges on 2 different trips.  The 564 cartridge I am replacing is the regular black ink, NOT the black photo.  The cartridge is very thin.  First I bought the regular black 564 and it was too fat to fit in the space provided (the only spot that would fit that size is the photo black).  So, I went back and got the 564XL. I was assured it would fit. Again, too fat.  So I went to the official hp shopping site to try to order thru them. They didn't even have my model listed as a choice in the drop down menu for deciding what ink I would buy.  The only numbers listed were: C4140, C4150 and C4180.  What's a girl to do?? I am so confused and I need to print!!

Hi,
Both the 564 and 564XL black cartridges should fit.
The Black ink should be inserted within the most right space which is the most wide (the Fivefold shape), as in the sample below:
Howevewr, due to cartridge shape, more likely the space is wider than the phisical cartridge size due to cartridge update.. You should insert the cartridge into the center of the space:

  • Black ink cartridge will not fit into assigned slot.

I cannot insert new black ink (564) into original black in spot (564 setup)on the left side of ink carriage, because new cartridge is wider than original. I already inserted a 564XL black ink into the black ink slot on the far right side of carriage. Printer would not work with only one black cartridge, so I bought a 2nd 564 Black ink cartridge to install on far left side of cartridge (but it won't fit).

Thanks for the model number and additional information.
The cartridge on the far left is called Photo Cartridge. You need to install a replacement photo cartridge in that slot. See the document below to understand the difference between the black and photo cartridges:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01839024
The two cartridges have different label icons on the packaging and on the cartridge. This will help you identify the correct cartridge in the store.
Alternately, please visit the link below to order the photo cartridge online:

  • HP 27 Black Original Ink Cartridge does not fit slot in HP Deskjet 3520

Was told at the shop this was compatible. However, the slot is smaller than the cartridge.

There are two printers with that number but one is called the Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One which takes 564 ink.
The older 3520 takes the 27 ink.

  • Adapter 6525 black ink cartridge

I have an HP 6525 printer.  I purchased a pack of new ink cartridges and all fit fine except the black.  The setup black ink cartridge is about twice the width of the one that came with the pack.  Is there an adapter for the smaller cartridges?  If so where can i get one?  ramroc

    Hey @ramroc ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
You are using the HP Photosmart 6525 and you are having trouble with the new ink you purchased because you have a black that is smaller then the slot in the carriage.
What has happened here most likely is you purchased the HP 564 cartridges with the 5th black cartridge that is a photo black intended for the HP Photosmart 7520. The black cartridge you want to be using is the one with a pentagon on the top, not a bowtie.
    What your carriage should look like;
    What the HP Photosmart 7520 carriage looks like;
You want to make sure you are using the cartridge with the pentagon not the bowtie.
Hope this makes things more understandable for you. Have a good one!

I bought a 364 XL cartridge for my Photosmart 6510 printer, but it doesn't fit—it's too wide. Yet the User Manual I downloaded from HP (helpfully called c02983796) clearly shows an illustration of the XL cartridge fitting in the printer. Advice?

  • Remove the ink cartridge & reinstall it then press ok - Doesn't Work. Please Help !

    HP Envy 5660 Wireless All-In-One
My black & color ink ran out and I changed them both. The color ink cartridge is fine but when I changed the black cartridge I get a message telling me to remove it and reinstall the black ink cartridge then press ok. I tried this several times. When it did not work after 4 tries, I decided to try another black cartridge. Again I got this message. I tried with 3 brand new black cartridges with no luck.
I then decided to turn off the power to the printer and unplug the printer. Wait a few minutes then plug it in again and power up. Like a re-boot.  This did not help. I then tried cleaning the area where the cartridge goes in but this did not help either. I did not bother trying to clean the cartridges (3) themselves as they were all brand new, just out of the box.
The only way I can use this printer right now was to remove the black cartridge all together and only use the color ink.
I have only had this computer for 3 months so if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Hi @TracieDawn,
I see that despite your best efforts so far, you can currently only use the printer when you remove the black cartridge and printer with the color ink. I suggest using the following document to troubleshooting the issue, and calling us if the issue persists; HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640 and Officejet 5740, 8040 e-All-in-One Printer Series - A 'Cartridges Missin....

  • Which printer fits my left-over ink cartridges?

Some advice please....My elderly OfficeJet 6110 has finally gone to the Great Print Shop In The Sky...sad, but these things happen and it has given good service. So I need a new machine.
One factor in my choice is that I am sitting on a number of HP 56, 57 & 58 ink cartridges. Naturally, I do not want to just throw them away.
So - which new machines (if any) are available that (still)use these cartridges?
    Many Thanks

The one that comes to mind is the OfficeJet H470.  It's a cute little mobile printer.  Not super photo-centric.  There are probably others, but I'll need to look into it further.

  • 364XL Cartridges do not fit my Photosmart 7520 printer

I recently purchased replacement ink cartridges for my Phtotsmart 7520 printer (all 364 XL).  I used the HP tool to make sure I found the correct cartridges, and according to everything I read (also on the packaging of the cartridge) they should fit my printer.  However when I try to install them they do not fit.  They seem to be too fat for the holder.  I see that the cartridges were re-designed in 2010, but the printing on the outside of the box has a copyright mark dated 2013 - so they must be later than 2010 - so should fit.  What am I missing ??
    Thanks

  • Bought the ink cartridge for Nort- America (HP no. 61), I am from West Europe (HP no. 301)

I have a HP Deskjet 1000 J110 Series printer. The print program I got from HP online, showed me (I was out of black ink) that I had to buy the cartridge No. 61. So I bought this online. I put the cartridge in the printer but I got the message that this cartridge was not the right one for my printer. I found out that I need the no. 301 because I have a printer from West Europe (where I live). The no. 61 cartridge doesn't work in my printer because this is the one for Nort America. Is there any way how I can solve this/how my printer can "accept" the no. 61? The cartridge fits in the printer totally fine. Thanks in advance, Femke

You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Hello @ut32w , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:

  • New Ink Cartridge but can not print out/copy any document.

I have HP Printer Deskjet 1050. I've just bought 1 x Original HP Ink Cartridge Colour Black No.61 that can be used as well for my HP Deskjet 1050 (because I could't get No.802 Black Cartridge). I have pulled out the empty one and pushed the new one in until I heard snap sound (I've followed as what is in the instruction poster). Before my old Ink was empty, I was able to print either black or colour. Now, after I've got new one pushed in, I couldn't print nothing, even the alignment page doesn't automatically print out after all cartridges are pushed in and cartridge door was closed. My Black Ink warning light is blinking all the time. I can scan to my computer/laptop but can not print it out or make copy from the printer. This printer is not compatible for my laptop with OS Windows 8.1 (64-bit), but I was able to use my printer for printing thru my laptop by using HP AiO Printer Remote. Please help?

    Hi @KroebY,
Welcome to the HP support Forums! I see you have replaced the black cartridge on your HP Deskjet 1010, but it is not registering the new cartridge. You are unable to copy or print, you can make a scan. I notice you said your DJ 1010 was not compatible with the Windows 8.1 Operating system, there are full feature software and drivers available for your printer.

Does this help, are you now able to print and make a copy? If yes, continue below:
    Now, the software:
    1. Unplug the USB if using a direct connection.
    2. Remove the HP DJ 1010 software from your computers Control Panel's Uninstall a program option.
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Make sure all the DJ 1010 software is gone from the programs list as well as your HP folder listed under the All programs in your Start Menu.
    5. Now go ahead and download the software and drivers for your DJ 1010 (DO NOT plug in USB until the software prompts you to):

this is just a printer problem as the printer was working fine before I changed the ink.  My Dell inspiron 580  wi PC is working fine and I have been printing direct from my computer to printer every day until my goof up...... intel core (TM) i5 CPU @3.20 GHz 64 bit  8.00 GB RAM

Hi - A couple of things to try:
    - Unplug the power from the back of the printer.
    - Open the top cover, and slide the carriage to the center.
    - Remove the cartridge and try reinstalling.  Make sure the ink cartridge snaps in and is firmly held by the carriage.
    - Plug the power cord back into the printer and power it on.
If that doesn't work, try repeating the steps above, but this time, remove the USB cable, which will completely isolate the printer and narrow down the issue.
    Hope that helps.

  • I can not print black and white only documents and I have a full black ink cartridge

I have been an loyal HP customer since the orginal laserjet in the early 90s and then many inkjets from HP after that.
I bought an HP 6600 All in one for the house and have only ever printed in black and white.
For some reason one of the color ink carts is empty after a few months of black and white only printing.   No problem - I only print in black and white - or so I thought.
Nothing I have been able to do (aside from buying a color cart I don't need) is able to tell the printer to not worry about color and only use the black and white cart.  Past inkjets from HP didn't have a problem with this.
Please tell me HP didn't do this on purpose and is going to trying and justify the need for me to buy any color carts if I never print in color.  HP - if you did and you are going to try and tell me you neeeded to do this for any reason then someone please sign me up for the class action lawsuit if you are an attorney looking for plaintiffs.
However, I am sure I am overlooking some simple setting on the 6600 to move past this annoyance.
    Thanks!

    Hi Atlanta90210,
We appreciate your brand loyalty, and I'm very sorry for the frustration this has caused.
There is a lot of good information in Cannot Print When One of the HP Ink Cartridges is Empty. It explains how your printer works and how it is designed. Another good resource is posted here.
In the first link I mentioned, there are steps to print with black ink only. I have a similar printer to this at home (with the same print mech), and I have found that the steps to print with black ink only have saved me lots of ink.
There needs to be ink in all the cartridges for this printer to continue printing (after the cartridge's reserve mode is depleted). Once you have replaced the empty cartridges, you can change the print settings to print with only black ink so the printer doesn't use color ink. Until then, there is not a way to bypass this.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping to receive, but I do hope it was helpful.
I'd be happy to help you with any other questions or concerns.
